Introduction
Cricket chirps sounded through the night, as you silently glided through the forest. Ever since you had escaped from the nearby owlery, you had been searching for a place to live. In the owlery, owls had been captured, and had been being killed so that their down could be used to stuff pillows. A lucky few had escaped, and you were one of them. Sometimes, you were forced to fly for groups of no-beaks, as they gaped and stared at simple gliding. Even a newly hatched chick was able to do what you were forced to do.
As you landed on a nearby branch, you heard a hoot nearby.
"Hello." The hoot sounded. A medium-sized, female Barn Owl hopped down to your level, on a branch protruding from a nearby tree. "Who are you?" She asked. "My name is Blazing Dux, but I go by Blaze. Have you escaped from the owlery?" As you nodded, the Barn Owl twooed happily. "Good. Would you like to join out Saptientia? Together, we will grow strong and wise. I'm not forcing you to do anything. It's your choice."
As she fluttered off into the distance, you pondered whether or not to take wing after her. Will you join this Sapientia, or go back to your wandering? As Blaze said, it's your choice...
Territory
The Sapientia lives on a forested mountain, with many glades, clearings, pools, streams, brooks, rivers, and small lakes. Their camp is a series of nests in the trees surrounding a small clearing, with a pool of water, and a pile of prey in the centre.
Information
Hello, and welcome to Owl's Flight! This is an RP about a group of owls living in a group, known as a Sapientia. Sapientia is a Latin word, meaning "Wisdom". The owls are of many different species, all having escaped from a nearby owlery, where they were being killed for their down, and forced to fly for crowds. Here's the information on each bit:
Owls:
Names:
Prey:
Insects: Extremely common, found in every season, but abundant in spring and summer.
Spiders: Common, found in every season, and abundant in every season.
Earthworms: Extremely common, found in every season, but abundant in spring and autumn.
Snails: Common, found in every season except winter, but abundant in spring and autumn.
Crabs: Medium, found in spring and summer near water, but most common in summer.
Fish: Medium, found in spring, summer, and autumn near water, but they're most common in summer, and salmon are abundant in autumn.
Lizards: Medium, found in spring and summer, but most common in summer.
Snakes: Uncommon, found in spring and summer, but most common in summer.
Frogs and Toads: Uncommon, found in spring, summer, and autumn, but most common in spring.
Newts: Uncommon, found in spring, summer, and autumn, but most common in spring.
Small Birds: Common, found all year round, but most common in spring.
Small Mammals: Common, found all year round, except for winter, but most common in summer, and abundant in spring.
FOR BIGGER OWLS ONLY:
Rabbits and Hares: Uncommon, found in spring and summer, but most common in spring.
Young Foxes: Extremely uncommon, found all year round, but most common in spring.
Larger Birds: Common, found all year round, but most common in spring.
Predators:
Foxes: Uncommon. They will try to catch chicks who have fallen out of the nest, or fully-grown owls sitting on low branches. They can, however, usually be scared off with a loud hoot or screech. If you can't scare it off, try flying higher into the branches. Rescue fallen chicks as soon as you possibly can. Attack with talons, if necessary.
Cats and Bobcats: Common.
Birds Of Prey: Slightly uncommon. Since these can fly, too, the only way to protect your young is to fight. Aim to kill.
Other Owls: Common. Fight them long and hard. Other Sapientias are to be fought by the Bellator only.
Humans: Slightly uncommon. To be feared at all costs. Fight, but there's an extremely low chance that you'll end up winning.
Rules:
1: This RP is semi-literate. No one-liners. Both third and first person is okay, but please stick to novel style. Novel style example: "How did that happen?" Gold exclaimed, shocked.
No one-liners, please.
2: No hate! If anybody hates on anybody else, I will politely ask them to stop, and hash it out via PM. The second time, you will be REMOVED from the RP, and all of your characters will be free to be claimed. If you hate on any race, sexuality, body shape/type, or anything else, then you will be removed from the RP immediately.
3: LGBTQ+ characters are totally allowed!
4: You can have as many characters as you can handle, although, I'd prefer it if you'd stick below 10. Any characters that aren't RPed for longer than a fortnight (Barring plots that involve chicknapping, fake deaths, or the like), will be removed from the RP, and be free to be claimed by anybody else.
5: Please stick to your character's role. Don't randomly have a Captis be scouting, or a Bellator be healing. Ask the current Rector to make an official rank change.
6: Follow the 1/4 rule. 1/4 battles will be lost, 1/4 prey will get away, 1/4 owls won't be healed, 1/4 ranks won't work out, 1/4 predators will take chicks/kill an owl, etc, etc.
7: Please RP regularly! At least once per log-on would be good.
8: Follow the rules!!!
The Owl's Code
The Owl's Code is a code that all owls in a Sapientia must follow, from chick to Seniorem. To break the code is punishable with death.
1: The chicks, Genetrix, and Seniorem must always be fed first. Any sick or injured cats can eat whilst the chicks, Genetrix, and Seniorem are eating.
2: Serve and defend your Sapientia with your life. To abandon your Sapientia is to abandon The Owl's Code.
3: Chicks are only to be declared Tiros, and given their Tiro name, when they are 6 months old.
4: The Rector is to be obeyed always, and immediately. Never ignore your Tiro's orders.
5: A Medicus may not take a mate, or have chicks.
6: Never kill. An owl who has killed is an owl who has turned their back on The Owl's Code, and on the Lux Flight.
7: Always help a chick, Tiro, or any other owl who is in need, even if they don't come from your Sapientia.
8: Follow The Owl's Code with your life, heart, soul, and flight.
The Ranks, Explained
Rector: The leader of the group. Anything that happens, goes past them. Every patrol, every battle, every fight, every bit of territory claimed. They are given twelve special gifts by the Lux Flight, in order to help them lead their Sapientia well. They, also, possess three lives, instead of one.
Vicarium: The second-in-command. The Vicarium acts as a sort of messenger for the Rector, delivering orders, and making sure that everybody follows them, and that all of the Sapientia respects the Rector.
Medicus: The Medicus acts as a healer for the Sapientia, and watches over hatching chicks. They aren't allowed to take a mate, or have chicks. They have a close relationship with the Lux Flight.
Medicus Tiro: An owl in training to become a Medicus.
Captis: These owls hunt for the Sapientia. They range from being small and agile, to large and powerful, and they are the role that most chicks choose to take when they become Tiros.
Tutela: These owls guard the camp and nearby forest, fighting off any predators which get too close. They tend to be medium-sized, and don't generally have very much stamina, since they generally sit in trees all day, watching the forest.
Bellator: These owls fight predators in the further-off forest, and fight off intruding owls, and other Sapientias. They are generally large, and very, very powerful.
Indagator: These owls patrol the forest every day, and every night, reporting back to the Sapientia at dawn, noon, sunset, and midnight, so that the Bellators can go out, and fight off any predators. They are generally small, fast, and agile. If the Sapientia ever has to move locations, the Indagators will act as scouts, flying ahead, in order to scout out new territories.
Tiro: These owls are in training to become a Captis, Tutela, Bellator, Indagator, or Confoveo. They will shadow each job, each for a few days, until they decide which one they want to do. Then, they will learn the basics for about a month, before intense training for about 4 months, and then a test, lasting one month. They tend to become full members of their role at about 1 year - 1 year 2 months. They are trained by the whole of that role, instead of just one owl.
Confoveo: These owls help the Genetrix with looking after their young. They help the Genetrix with feeding, disciplining, teaching, protecting, and moving their chicks around, and, if the chicks can't fly yet, they're in charge of moving the chicks from nest to nest.
Genetrix: These owls are females who currently have eggs or chicks, or are preparing to lay their eggs.
Chicks: These are owls younger than 6 months old. They do not yet have a name.
Seniorem: These are the owls who have lived out their days in the Sapientia, and, are now too old or injured to work. They tell the chicks stories about their lives in the Sapientia, and form a sort of Wise Council, for the Rector to consult, when they feel lost, or unsure of what decision to make.
The Lux Flight
The Lux Flight are the owls that have, sadly, passed away. They act like a sort of StarClan for the owls, guiding them, and helping the Rector and Medicus make the right decisions. Sometimes, they will send down signs, omens, or prophecies to the Rector and/or Medicus, helping them guide their Sapientia. But, there are owls that don't believe in the Lux Flight. These are commonly owls who hatched, and were raised, outside of the Sapientia, and weren't raised to believe in their ancestors in the stars. However, most often, these owls can still function well inside of a Sapientia, and some even become Rectors, or Medicuses! If a chick dies before it can recieve it's Tiro name, it will recieve a name when it reaches the Lux Flight.

Owls:
Your character may be any breed of owl, as long as it isn't extinct. You may have any reasonable colours on your owl, as long as it isn't impossible for that breed. No crazy colours like bright pink or green, please. If your owl has clipped wings so it can't fly, or has any other disabilities, please don't make it a rank such as a Captis, or a Tutela. It would probably be better suited to a rank such as a Confoveo, or a Seniorem.
Names:
When an owl is a chick, it has no name. It will usually go by "Young chick", "Chick", or a description of it's general appearance, or personality.
When it becomes a Tiro, it will earn a one-word, adjective name, such as "Golden", "Leafy", "Hot", or "Cloudy".
When it becomes a Captis, a Tutela, a Bellator, or an Indagator, it earns a second, noun part of it's name, so Golden, Leafy, Hot, or Cloudy could become Golden Moon, Leafy Pine, Hot Feathers, or Cloudy Storm.
If it becomes a Medicus Tiro, it earns the second part of it's name immediately. This will always be some sort of herb, like "Basil" or "Tansy", so Golden, Leafy, Hot, or Cloudy could be Golden Lavender, Leafy Yarrow, Hot Nettle, or Cloudy Thyme. Once it becomes a full Medicus, the second part of it's name becomes Berula, so Golden Lavender would become Golden Berula.
Once it becomes a Rector, the second part of it's name becomes Dux. So, Golden Moon would become Golden Dux.
