______________________________________________________________________________ "When confronted by our worst nightmares, the choices are few- fight or flight. We hope to find the strength to stand against our fears but sometimes, despite ourselves, we run. What if the nightmare gives chase? Where can we hide then?" ______________________________________________________________________________
i. the basics iii. members vi. abilities vii. history --------- A deluge of thoughts crash like waves against the walls of your mind, reverberating until it almost hurts.
i didn't ask for this!
why are they chasing me?
why is this happening?
You look backwards as you skid into an alley- good, at least they're not close. But you can still hear the sirens and loudspeakers echoing against the walls of NYC.
Who knows what those men chasing you will do if they catch you? Run lab tests? Train you to become a mindless soldier to only follow their orders? Kill you? No. Don't think about that. We're not going to think about that, you tell yourself as the alley suddenly opens up to the crowded street. Be cool. You quickly regain composure and start to walk nonchalantly, going along with the others. You craftily grab a hat reading "I <3 NYC" while passing a gift-store kiosk- IOU, you think- and go on your way.
A ways ahead, the agents, donning full uniforms and guns specifically made for taking down those of your kind, shove their way among the citizens, who look marginally surprised, yet not really- this kind of thing was seen commonly around the city.
You're heading right towards them. If you turn back now they would be suspicious. So you push the hat down towards your eyes and abscond down stairs leading to a subway tunnel.
As you sink into the chair in the subway car, swaying along with the motions of the train, you breathe deeply and close your eyes. Another close call. Too close for comfort. You've managed to escape them so far- but how long will you be able to evade them before they finally catch you?
---------
If you haven't already guessed, this is a Heroes roleplay. It's set after the fourth season, but since this roleplay was created before Heroes Reborn, it's sort of an alternate universe in that it's a different take on what could've happened after the finale.
______________________________________________________________________________ "Evolution is an imperfect, and often violent process. Morality loses its meaning. The question of good and evil, reduced to one simple choice: Survive? Or perish?" ______________________________________________________________________________
тнeBASICS
This takes place after the infamous series finale, when the Specials were exposed to the world. The government is now taking charge. Specials sometimes don't have control over their powers, or they just abuse them, so they're a huge threat to the world as a whole. Earthquakes have occurred, explosions have taken out whole towns... that's why it's their mission to stop all specials. Since no "cure" for abilities has been found, they've turned to genocide. In other words killing off Specials. If not that, then holding them in labs for testing, keeping them in jail cells so that they'll never see the light of day ever again, or manipulating them into working for them to catch more Specials- yes, that happens, people see it all the time on the street. If a Special were to turn themselves in, they're promised better treatment, such as a larger, more comfortable cell and tastier food.
However, some have rebelled. They've vowed to never be captured. They want to keep their freedom. Given, not all of these mentioned Specials are exactly good. Those who were the cause of this genocide, they're all hated by those who are good and did not play in a part in harming the innocent. The two sides have been bickering lately.
To sum it up, one wouldn't describe a Special's life as a walk in the park. But if you can hide it well, you might just be okay.
---------
тнeGOVERNMENT AGENTS
The bane of any rebel Special's existence, government agents are the ones who hunt down those with abilities and bring them in. Like I said before, some of them could be Specials themselves- it certainly helps with the capture. Those agents who are not special have either a customized kind of tazer that both temporarily disables the muscle in the brain that controls abilities and renders the subject unconscious after one zap, or darts containing a solution that does the same thing. If there is a Special that's stubborn, and strong mental-wise, it might take a few more hits for them to go down. Once captured, Specials will be brought to a government holding facility.

---specials---
Theron Colt || Male || 26 || Abilities: Intuitive aptitude-- flight, telekinesis, hydrokinesis, healing, pyrokinesis, rapid cellular regeneration || Neutral || anonymouse
"Shady"'s what he's called by the feds because, according to the police and the majority of the population, no one's ever seen the guy. Yeah, maybe he walks around like a normal person sometimes, among us... but never caught in the act. The only things you see are the things he wants you to see. Spots of blood dotting the carpet. A couple teeth ripped from their gums. Pieces of skin sliced from warm, pink flesh while the victim was still alive- at least according to forensics. Sometimes if the police are lucky they'll find a live person- but no, they'd forget all about the ordeal, or else they'd be frightened to the point of insanity so that they wouldn't be able to speak. When he's not killing people, Theron seems like a normal guy. 6'1, average build. He's got almost-jet-black hair that's styled neatly into a slight, shorter version of a Faux-Hawk, with natural streaks of brown, and hazel eyes with a hint of sparkling azure around the edges. As for his disposition, he honestly doesn't feel anything. It's like he doesn't have a conscience. This could be because of a harrowing childhood, or something else entirely. Some may call him insane because of this, a few may call it an evolutionary advantage as his almost-non-existent emotions don't get in the way of his work (most of the time), and many may call it both. This sketchy part of him he hides from the world, as he's smart enough to not let his ego take over. As thrilling and entertaining as it is, being chased by government agents isn't as fun as getting away with murder and scaring people out of their wits. Instead he shows everyone the other side- the fake side- of himself. A friendly, charming, silver-tongued facade he puts on. The guy's crafty, due to both his ability of intuitive aptitude and his natural way of thinking. Manipulating people is his best talent and he's not afraid to admit it to himself. In fact he's quite proud. No conscience, remember?
Sam Burnes || Male || 20 || Ability: Enhanced agility || Rebel || anonymouse
Since the kid's relatively new to his ability, he's not bouncing against walls or jumping off roofs just yet. Sam's focusing on dodging and moving fast. If he did have a job- can't seem to hold one at the moment, though he has been a Starbucks barista and an attorney's assistant- he would make sure he didn't get one related to physical activity so that he wouldn't have an unfair advantage over others. But he is in community college at the moment. There's been a couple close calls with others almost finding out about his power, but he's managed to cover it up so far. Sam is taller than average, with shaggy, layered dark brown hair, as if wind is always blowing at it and making it messy. His eyes, that almost always seem to be narrowed in speculation, are light brown. He's got a slight athletic build, but is overall on the skinny-nerd side. Speaking of which, that's what he is: a nerd. Comic books galore. That's why he loves his power so much; because he thinks of himself as a superhero, something he's always dreamed of being but never thought was possible. Which is why he goes out almost every night to help those in need. Even without his power, he aids those unfortunate by volunteering for various organizations and charities. Sam's one of the most sympathetic and understanding dudes you'll ever have the pleasure of meeting. He has this way of putting himself in others' shoes and seeing what they go through- spotting the good in everyone, no matter how evil they may seem. He's stubborn, usually in a good way, humble, and surprisingly charismatic (for a nerd)(despite this he is still surprised if he finds out someone has a crush on him). Most of the time he'll play it safe. Making plans, not jumping into things too quickly, the like; though lately he's been trying to 'switch it up', live life at least nearer to the edge (he wouldn't admit that this is because he wants to be more like Spider-Man). If he thinks that he could've helped someone, but they got hurt or worse, he'll hate himself for weeks on end, and that's his weakness- guilt, and his over-attachments to people.
Kenneth Lapes || Male || 25 || Ability: Empathetic mimicry || Neutral || Dieselpunk
He has shoulder length black hair that sticks up in the front. His eyes are steel blue with a dark ring around the iris. He's 6'0, has a slim but not scrawny build, and is slightly pale. He wears small glasses with black rims. His usual attire is an open grey jacket over a dark loose t-shirt, blue jeans, and black converses. He's not much for talking, normally prefers to be on his own, making him independent. He's a book nerd that enjoys the quite of the book store he owns. He learns quickly, giving him an advantage with his powers. He doesn't accept major changes well. He was an only child that lived in Michigan with his family. He moved to NYC when he was 21 and currently owns a small, self owned bookstore. He's new to his powers and isn't quite sure how to use them yet. He is aware of the government's attempt to capture "special" people and is wary of the agents he sees around the city.
Ashley "Phoenix" Stone || Female || 22 || Ability: Pyrokinesis || Rebel || Dieselpunk
A pretty young woman with reddish blonde hair and dark hazel eyes. She often wears a brightly-colored t-shirt that's cut off around the waist, worn shorts, and running shoes. Not much is known about her, except for the fact that she's part of a small group whose main purpose is stopping what the government is doing to specials. She often hangs around with Mark.
Sera Carpenter || Female || 17 || Ability: Invisibility || Rebel || anonymouse
Sera's not your typical girl. And I mean that in a way that is arguably worse than you'd might think. She doesn't like shopping because she's self-conscious about her figure, so she only wears slightly baggy T-shirts with faded logos and sweats or jeans most days. Holding a conversation is difficult. She feels awkward 90% of the time around people, and some would claim she's socially anxious, though she'd never been diagnosed; so people just assume she's shy because she likes to be alone usually. And it isn't that noticeable, but she tends to stutter, even when she's not nervous (which, something that we all know by now, is rare for her). You can expect her to turn invisible suddenly due to all this. Behind all that, if you ended up getting past all the social awkwardness, she's a completely different person. An adventure-seeker, joke-cracker, she can even be witty sometimes. She is actually quite the intelligent strategist, too, and likes to learn as long as it's something she's interested in and not anything related to math. Sera has dark brown hair that stretches just past her shoulders, and she actually has an okay body at least according to society- but like I said, she's very uncomfortable with her appearance so she doesn't show it off much. Her eyes are more green than brown, like sprinkles of dirt on a patch of moss.
Mason Locke || Male || 19 || Ability: Hydrokinesis || Neutral? || anonymouse
The son of a top agent in the force, Mason has short, butch-style light blonde hair. He's muscular- needs to be- and is average height. The kid appears to be nice and calm. He could convince anyone he's on their side just because his nature seems, by default, your average fun-loving, mischief-craving teenager. Given, he is that way a lot of the time; he does have a soul, you know. But inside he's pretty messed up. He grew up in a government facility, almost never getting to go outside or meet anyone his age. Because of this he's been convinced that the only purpose for him is doing his job, which is used to be hunting down Specials. He hadn't questioned or protested it because that's all he'd known. Since the escape, though, and with Mercy's help, he's been tapping into that inner "normal kid"- with sarcasm and jokes slipping into his speech and even rebelliousness occasionally guiding his actions. However, large traces of the life he left behind are yet to fade from his disposition, such as his tendency to take command whenever the opportunity strikes, being a little too demanding, and acting as if life is a mission. He's quite strong both physically and mentally. Mason knows three languages: English, German, and Spanish. He's adept in five types of martial arts, is most skilled in taekwando and jui-jitsu. Bottom line is, you don't want to mess with him unless you're prepared for what's coming to you. UPDATE: Former agent, he was sent to be a Tester due to new abilities that have come to light; he can heal others using his hydrokinesis. After this, he and Mercy escaped from the government facility.
Chance || Male || 18 || Ability: Animal morphing || Rebel || Hawki
Chance has honey-colored hair that’s fairly wild no matter how much styling gel he uses. He has dark brown eyes and a thin scar just in front of his right ear that’s barely visible except in a certain light. Chance was a golden boy for most of his life until his parents were gunned down by government agents a few months before he turned eighteen. They were Specials and they had, stupidly, never seen fit to tell him because they thought maybe he wasn’t going to develop a power. Chance, confused and lost and grieving, ran away from his life and—in a close-call run in with more agents—was introduced to his power by morphing into a sparrow. He only barely managed to get away before he shifted back into human form and crash-landed in a park . Since then, he’s been on the run like most Specials, living day to day and hoping to meet people like himself so maybe he can figure out how to effectively use his power. He's only used his power twice since the sparrow debacle because it scares him so badly.
Skylar Brennan || Female || 25 || Feral Mind || Neutral || Aviva
Skylar is a tall woman, coming to a height of 5'8" tall. She has a lean build, with a well defined figure, but she's starting to get somewhat thin. She has long light auburn hair that looks quite like a flame in the sunlight and pale sea foam green eyes that constantly seem to be shifting around, taking in her surroundings, framed behind a pair of old, battered glasses with scratched lenses. Her skin is naturally pale, with light brown freckles sprinkled across her cheeks and the bridge of her nose. Her thin arms are traced up and down with thin, faint scars, though she stubbornly refuses to tell anyone where they came from. It's quite clear from the get-go that Skylar is one of the smartest people that you'll ever meet-- well, among those with only natural intellect, that is. She's got one of the most brilliant minds of her time, and has a particular knack for math. Up until recently, actually, she was a private math tutor for gifted students. It isn't a job that payed all too well, though she managed to scrape by. Skylar is very much a "mama bear" type; she loves her young son, Aiden, fiercely, and is extremely protective of him against any sort of danger. She's incredibly selfless when it comes to her child, and will often give up what is necessary for her health, such as food, water, or the only blanket they have on a cold night, and will willingly put herself in harm's way to keep him safe. Skylar's special ability first showed up when she was fourteen years old. Her father, who was a Special, had recently been captured by the government, and the government agents came after her next, suspecting that she was a Special as well. They were right, but they hadn't been expecting Skylar to have her particular ability, and she managed to fight the agents off; after that, her mother moved her away from their former LA home and they settled in Florida. Skylar began traveling into the woods to work on her power, practicing getting herself under control, and by the time her son was born, she had mastered nearly complete control-- while strong emotions can still trigger what she calls "flares," she no longer has random attacks like when she was younger, and can turn her feral mind on and off at will, and is somewhat able to determine friend from foe. She can control her ability so well that she pretended that it wasn't there for a while, and lived a perfectly normal life, undetected by the government, up until her son was discovered and the pair had to go on the run. They now live out of Skylar's car, using what money she managed to save up to buy food when they can and living in constant fear of discovery.
Aiden Brennan || Male || 6 || Eidetic Memory-- memory absorption || Neutral || Aviva
Aiden is, as far as children go, a fairly attractive boy. He doesn't look much like his mother-- his pale skin is freckle free, and he has platinum blond hair, not auburn, though his eyes are the same as hers-- a striking pale sea green color, almost teal. He's a small boy, with a slim build; he's not nearly as lean as his mother. A lot of his clothes are slightly baggy on him, though it's clear that his mom tries her best. Aiden is not nearly as naive as most children his age, nor is it easy to fool him. He's incredibly intelligent, and has a much better memory than most kids; his recall is quite spectacular. He's already reading at the same level of most ten year olds, and can recite anything he reads nearly perfectly, with few mistakes. Despite his obvious intellect, however, Aiden is still a child, and is not as well-versed in the world as an adult regardless of what anyone says. He's a kind, gentle boy, but he can be rather shy. Eidetic memory is not usually something that raises alarms among regulars. There are regular people who have something similar, and who are smarter than average. Things can get rather suspicious, however, when a first grader happily begins to tell his peers about the Christmas break skiing trip that their teacher took, believing that it was his own memory. Poor little Aiden made this unfortunate mistake right in front of the teacher whose memory he had taken; the poor woman panicked and called to report him. Luckily, his overly protective mother got a phone call from the school's principal explaining the situation, and she showed up just in time to stop the government agents from taking him, and the two ran away to New York, where they are currently living in hiding.
Hannah Tyler || Female || 19 years old || Sonic Scream || Neutral || тнe wιɴтer ѕoldιer «
Hannah Tyler is a nimble teenage girl on the edge of adulthood. She comes to about 5'9", long legged with an hourglass figure, thin but in a rather healthy way, so she's not skinny nor twig-like. She has creamy ivory skin, just a hair sun kissed though she doesn't spend too much focusing on tanning. She has pale, white blonde hair that is naturally pencil straight, and she prefers it to be like that. It lays to just about mid waist, the tips brushing her elbows if it's down, though she usually has it up in some form of hair style (her favorite is fishtail braids), and her cropped-to-the-side bangs cover her forehead and brush her black lashes. Her eyes are a water-blue, clear and almost translucent than the average blue-eye color. Hannah was usually a free-spirited child, always having fun with her friends and not had a care in the world. It was when she would have tempers and scream in frustration that she and her family realized she was a Special. She was young then, her scream only weak and didn't do much damage, only crack some glass, maybe shattering the glass on small objects such as watches or eye glasses. It was kept a secret, for a while, but as she grew to a young teen, it got a bit stronger, more noticeable. And soon they came, first friendly and business-like, but Hannah didn't want to go with them. That was when she snuck out at night, and that was the first time she ran -- and she has been running ever since. She kept low, stayed quiet, didn't use her abilities for a while, and thus this turned her from a careless fun-loving little girl to a more serious young adult. She kept to herself more, nor make much friends.
Primrose “Prim” Murphy || Female || 17 years old || Plant Manipulation || Neutral || тнe wιɴтer ѕoldιer «
Prim is a fairly short girl, about 5'5" if she cared to measure herself. She had fair skin, pale and speckled with some freckles on her arms and cheeks. If she were a normal ginger girl, she would burn to a crisp in direct sunlight without any protection. But she wasn't normal; the sun warmed her and gave her a sort of energy that kept her going, as well as fueling her manipulation with plant life. Prim has long hair that, if kept down, came to about her waist; it was wavy with soft curls the color of dark cinnamon -- it wasn't an orange ginger, but more auburn, almost a dark red. Some had asked if it were dyed, but it wasn't. She liked to keep it down for it was lightweight and freeing, and if she must have it up, she would tie it in an elegant bun-style at the nape of her neck and weave pink roses into it. Her eyes are a dark emerald green, full of what she's seen and learned over the years. They appear to be cat-like, as they are sharp and suspicious to everyone she looks at, but they sometimes appear soft as she's more relaxed. Prim always was alone, because she prefers plants over people. She sometimes talked to the vegetation, as her fingers daintily curl in the air to manipulate vines and flowers' movements. It sometimes physically pained her to see someone cutting their grass or de-weeding a garden, or simply cutting up vegetables for a toss salad. She didn't like how she could control such beauty and only watch as everyone around her ruins it in everyday life. government agents none yet! __________________
---regulars--- Felix Kelly || Male || 22 || Neutral || anonymouse
Upon discovering his fiery red hair, the crafty glint ever present in his green eye, and his very name, you'd think he was the posterboy for the All-Irish man. After meeting him, though, you might think Ireland needs another candidate. Felix Kelly was born right in the slums of Detroit as a 2nd generation American and it was clear he had a heavy Michiganite accent from the moment "mama" came from his mouth. Unfortunately, "mama" didn't last too long as his mother ran out on the family when he was 5, leaving his alcoholic, gambling-addicted dad to look after him and his older brother. Despite this, he grew up well enough, finding independence at the age of 10 while his brother went off to join the army. "Independence" meaning picking up the strategies of blackjack and being able to beat his father within a week of learning it, as well as riding his bike all around the city and scraping up money for their broken family wherever he could get it. If he'd grown up in a wealthy lifestyle one could speculate he'd have gone to Harvard due to his natural intelligence, but he barely had money to even help pay mortgage for their small shack of a house. So, at the age of 17, he dropped out of high school and turned to cards, coming up with new ways to cheat with every game. When he was 19, after his father's death of liver cancer, he hitchhiked to New York City after some "advice" from some locals to get out of town. If you were to ask him about it he'd tell you that he was "ready for a change anyway". Now, he's living in the city, performing the same routine as he'd been doing when he was ten: getting together as much green as he can to make weekly rent and afford decent food. This routine consists of occasional back-alley poker games, pool matches at bars, but mainly blackjack as he's practically a master at counting. Inconveniently for him, some guards are conversely masters at spotting counters, and he often gets thrown out. But he does manage to make some good dough. Alongside cards he takes up random jobs sometimes that may or may not be illegal. Shady occupations aside, Felix really likes to bike in his free time, and could correlate with someone's definition of skinny-fit. He doesn't have a high tolerance for what he deems to be stupidity or those lacking in common sense/"street smarts". And if you try to lecture him on his habits and lifestyle, he'll send you out the door before you could blink; doesn't like people judging him or telling him what to do. Flipping over the card, he's quite the daredevil and doesn't mind getting himself into trouble, be it a little or a lot. Overall, he's generally friendly, even if you beat him at something like chess or a game of baccarat- no sore loser here. government agents Taylor Martin || Female || 28 || Government's side || anonymouse
An agent of low rank. Even though she's good at her job she really only does it because 1) she needs to pay the bills to put food on the table for her father and 12-year-old daughter and 2) she feels an obligation to get revenge on Specials for taking away her dad's ability to walk while he was working for the government as a scientist. Not an emotional, grudge-like obligation, but a sort of moral one; she believes in payback; "you only get what you give", for lack of a better word professional, kind of stuff. So like, she doesn't hate Specials necessarily. She has a relatively stocky build with shoulder-length blonde hair usually tied up in a ponytail.

His appearance is unknown; he's constantly wearing a hooded jacket that hides his face. 5'9" tall. Mark's part of the same group as Ashley and normally remains silent. // Death by: Hypothermia; he was holding back Theron so he couldn't get away while Frost, a hydro, froze the rebels' warehouse.[Page 63]

Only then they can hope to survive the cruel season to come."_____________________________________________________________________тнeSPECIALS αɴdTHEIR POWERS
[thank you ᶠᶤᶰᵈᶤᶰᵍᶰᵉᵛᵉʳˡᵃᶰᵈ for dream weaving, eidetic memory, memory absorption, memory manipulation, and water breathing! thank you dragonwingofskyclan for cytokinesis! thank you ƸӜƷѕρι∂єянєαятƸӜƷ for sensory deprivation! ]
Most Specials have earned their abilities after an eclipse. Others just got them randomly. Unless one has the ability to have multiple powers or has a stemming ability, every Special has one and one only. Some can be arguably wimpy, others have the potential to desolate whole nations. It sorta depends on how you use it- and how much you practice it.
See, an ability gets stronger with training, like a muscle. And that's actually sorta what it is- there's a muscle in your brain that controls your power. And sometimes one ability can branch out to form others- such as simple telepathy (explained below), with time and practice, can stem into all-out mind manipulation. If you have one ability, and another ability stems from that, the other ability cannot stem into others. For an example, if I had telekinesis, and then I get flight from that, I cannot get super-speed from flight.
Side-effects - There are side effects to abilities. If you push too hard in a short amount of time, your nose will start to bleed, you'll get a headache, and, if you don't kill yourself first, you'll black out. Not too handy in a fight.
Long-term effects can include brain tumors (especially with space-time manipulation), going into a permanently vegetative state (especially and almost always with omniscience), strokes, heart attacks, insanity (especially with intuitive aptitude)... I'm sure there are others but that's all I can think of right now.
---------
Here are just a few of the many abilities that exist, and whether they are taken by another/other character/characters or not.
**If you really want a power that's already filled, I might let you have it. Just don't ask for empathetic mimicry, intuitive aptitude... perhaps even space-time manipulation. Any others, you can ask me about. **If you have an ability, and another ability that has stemmed from that, it doesn't matter if the stemmed ability is already taken- you have it.
--Telekinesis - The ability to move objects with your mind. With practice, you can go from moving a simple mug across the table to flipping a car through the air. -- the ability that can stem from this power is flight [1/2 characters]
--Telepathy - TAKEN! - The ability to read other peoples' thoughts. With practice, your range of mind-reading will increase, starting from only being able to read minds a couple feet away to three miles. Also with practice you can control whose thoughts you can read, and block out others. -- the ability that can stem from this power is mind manipulation [1/1 character]
--Mind manipulation - TAKEN! - The ability to make someone do something or control someone's mind. With practice, you can go from only being able to control one mind to being able to control many. Gets weaker as the distance between you and the mind you want to manipulate lengthens. -- the ability that can stem from this power is telepathy [1/1 character]
--Persuasion - TAKEN! - The ability to persuade someone to do something. They're not aware that they're being forced into anything- they think they're just doing it by themselves, willingly. With practice, persuading someone will become easier and easier- at first the person might subconsciously fight back and you'll have to use more effort, or they will know that you're trying to use a power on them, but over time this will fade. -- the ability that can stem from this power is mind manipulation [1/1 character]
--Pyro/hydro/terra-kinesis - The ability to control elements (each one of those is a different power, you can't have all three at the start). Sorta like bending in Avatar. Anyway, with practice you'll be able to lift/muster up/control more of the element you have. -- abilities that can stem from this are the various forms of element-manipulation and electricity manipulation. Pyrokinesis - fire - [0/1 character] Hydrokinesis - water - TAKEN! - [1/1 character] Terrakinesis - earth - [0/1 character]
--Flight - It's a pretty simple explanation- the ability to fly. With practice you'll be able to lift yourself higher, control yourself more while in the air, and go faster. Some gain this power by growing wings, which is a power in itself but is basically flight. -- the ability that can stem from this power is super-speed [0/3 characters]
--Super-strength - Also a simple explanation; the ability to lift super-heavy things. With practice you'll be able to lift more and more weight. -- no abilities can stem from this power [0/2 characters]
--Enhanced agility - The ability of having greater reflexes and speed. With practice, you'll be able to jump higher, move more quickly, and perform more gymnastic, athletic, and martial motions with less and less effort. -- the ability that can stem from this power is super-speed [1/2 characters]
--Super-speed - Pretty self-explanatory. Those with this power can move quicker than anyone else. With practice, you'll be able to move at faster and faster speeds, the peak of this power being borderline-light speed. -- the ability that can stem from this power is teleportation This is also a strong power. You don't have to specially request it, but if you put it on your form and you end up godmodding in the slightest bit, I'll take it away. [0/1 character]
--Intuitive aptitude - TAKEN! - The ability to understand how things work, sometimes even subconsciously- the power is always active, always working. One can detect and identify flaws in most systems or mechanisms. With practice, you'll be able to understand more and more complex things. However, with this power comes a hunger- a hunger to know more, to have more knowledge. This has driven some with this ability insane. Gabriel "Sylar" Gray used this power to absorb others' powers by exposing their brain and studying the muscle that controls abilities. Gruesome, I know. Those with this power are almost destined to become evil, twisted, crazy, or all of the above, unless they learn to fight the hunger that comes with it. -- the ability that can stem from this power is empathetic mimicry [1/1 character]
--Induced radioactivity - The ability to generate and emit toxic radiation. With practice, you can create larger and larger explosions and a bigger range/strength of your radiation, and learn to emit an EMP (electromagnetic pulse). This power is the least stable out of everything, and is unpredictable. It can be triggered easily by strong emotions such as anger or fear. -- the ability that can stem from this power is pyrokinesis [0/1 character]
--Rapid cellular regeneration - The ability to regrow cells exceptionally quickly. In other words, you just heal really fast. With practice, healing will become swifter and swifter. Everyone who has this ability is technically immortal unless their power is taken away or something permanently damages the muscle that controls their ability. -- the ability that can stem from this power is healing [0/2 characters]
--Healing - The ability to heal any form of life. Let's just say that you give someone/something the power of rapid cellular regeneration for however long you use the power on them. Ironically, you can't use this power on yourself unless rapid cellular generation happens to stem from it. With practice, you'll be able to heal larger wounds and, at the uppermost peak of the power, you'll be able to revive the dead, at least if they've been dead for only a short amount of time- though it does take a lot of energy/effort. -- the ability that can stem from this power is rapid cellular regeneration [0/2 characters]
--Space-time manipulation - The ability to alter and control space-time. It starts out as just being able to slow it, then, with practice, you'll eventually be able to freeze it, rewind it, go back in time, teleport, or go forward in time. Be careful when you go back, though. One little change you make can lead to others, which could alter present life as we know it. This is the power that comes with the most side-effects. Any overexertion could lead to a brain tumor, heart attack, any of the detriments mentioned above. -- no abilities can stem from this power [0/1 character]
--Adoptive muscle memory/muscle mimicry - The ability to replicate any physical action after seeing it performed just once. With practice, you'll be able to perform more and more complex moves. -- the ability that can stem from this power is enhanced combat [0/2 character]
--Power erasure - TAKEN! - The ability to permanently eliminate and absorb the powers of others. Practice can't really change the limits of this ability; it is what it is. You have to be touching the person you're taking the power from. You absorb their ability, so afterwards, you have it yourself. This power allows multiple powers to be had. -- no abilities can stem from this power [1/1 character]
--Sonic scream - The ability to generate sounds of a high amp from one's throat. With practice, it can blow back heavier and heavier objects, and the scream will become louder and louder, sometimes being able to permanently affect someone else's hearing. -- the ability that can stem from this is sound manipulation [1/2 characters]
--Electricity manipulation - The ability to control electricity. Basically like shooting lightning from your hands. Very much like elemental manipulation. -abilities that can stem from this are other elemental manipulations [0/1 character]
--Dream weaving - The ability to create and manipulate the dreams of others. It can be very confusing when it first manifests itself and the person who possesses it can feel trapped within other peoples dreams. In its early development, persons with this ability often have a hard time distinguishing between reality and dreams. Those with this ability tend to be daydreamers. --abilities that can stem from this power are memory absorption and memory manipulation [0/2 characters]
--Eidetic memory - The ability to recall images, objects, and sounds in a memory with extreme accuracy. One can see anything in the memory and mimic it; seems to be very intelligent. --abilities that can stem from this power are memory absorption and memory manipulation [1/3 characters]
--Memory absorption - The ability to absorb someone's memories through touch. This can overwhelm the person - the person's memories that they are absorbing can be more than they are prepared to handle. While absorbing a memory, persons with this ability are immersed in every aspect of it - all their senses are engaged. --abilities that can stem from this power are eidetic memory and memory manipulation [0/2 characters]
--Memory manipulation - The ability to manipulate and erase peoples' memories for any length of time. The user has to know of the memory in order to erase or alter it. The power is usually discovered when the person accidentally erases an important memory from a loved one. It takes a lifetime to master. --abilities that can stem from this power are eidetic memory and memory absorption [0/2 characters]
--Water breathing - The ability to breath underwater. Usually discovered by accident when the Special remains underwater for long periods of time without needing to surface. --the ability that can stem from this power is hydrokinesis [0/2 characters]
--Invisibility - The ability to become completely transparent so that the na*ked eye will not be able to see you. Rain can allow the user to be spotted. With practice, it'll become easier and easier to turn invisible and stay invisible for a longer period of time. -- no abilities can stem from this power [1/2 characters]
--Sound manipulation - The ability to create and control sound waves. With practice, you'll go from only being able to see sound as a vision (like aheightened version of synesthesia- it looks like a small Northern Lights) to being able to control sound waves, turning them solid and having the potential to hit or cut something with it. -- the ability that can stem from this power is sonic scream [0/2 characters]
--Empathetic mimicry - TAKEN! - The ability to mimic and absorb others' powers, while still leaving them with theirs. This allows you to have multiple powers. With practice, you can go from having to think hard to use another person's power, to not having to think at all, so that it is your own. You'll also be able to hold more powers. -- no abilities can stem from this power [1/1 character. You have to ask me if you want this power, and I'll tell you if you can or not, probably after I've seen you roleplay a bit. I need a great roleplayer for this one. Don't be afraid to ask about it. c:]
--Enhanced hearing - The ability to hear with enhanced clarity. With practice, you'll be able to hear softer and softer sounds, from further and further away. -- the ability that can stem from this is lie detection [0/2 characters]
--Lie detection - The ability to detect when one is lying. It's not about hearing or senses, users are simply aware of the truth. Can't really change with practice, it is what it is. -- the ability that can stem from this is enhanced hearing [0/3 characters]
--Feral mind - The ability to tap into a primal, unstoppable rage that allows you to perform much better and dealing/taking damage that wouldn't be possible in your normal state. While using feral mind, the user might not be able to distinguish friend from foe, and it's hard to remember what went on after going into the state of mind. With practice you'll be able to control yourself more while in this state and remember more. -- the ability that can stem from this is enhanced combat [1/2 characters]
--Illusion manipulation - TAKEN! - The ability to generate illusions that can trick people into perceiving unreal things- these illusions aren't tangible but can be very realistic to subjects. With practice, you'll be able to create stronger illusions, and at its peak you'll be able to create tangible images for short amounts of time. -- the ability that can stem from this power is telepathy [1/1 character]
--Shapeshifting - The ability to change your appearance at will into the looks of another person. Those with this power will have to have seen the person they will shapeshift into before shifting into them. It's an often painful process, shifting. A side effect is not being able to remember what you look like after shifting a certain amount of times. With practice, shifting will become less painful and take less time. -- abilities that can stem from this power are animal morphing and rapid cellular regeneration [0/1 character]
--Animal morphing - Much like shapeshifting, except you transform into animals instead of humans. It's painful. With practice, shifting will become less painful and take less time. -- the ability that can stem from this power is shapeshifting [1/2 characters]
--Enhanced combat - The ability to gain expert/extensive fighting skills without going through special or long-term training. Those with this ability become skilled in all forms of combat. -- the ability that can stem from this power is feral mind [1/2 characters]
--Plant manipulation - The ability to grow and control all forms of plant life. With practice, you'll be able to grow larger vegetation more quickly. -- the ability that can stem from this power is animal manipulation [1/2 characters]
--Omnilingualism - The ability to decipher any oral or written language and speak any fluently. -- the ability that can stem from this power is electronic communication [0/3 characters]
--Arachnidan mimicry - You know your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, right? Well, these are basically all of his abilities- wallcrawling, danger intuition (the heightened ability to sense danger), enhanced balance, and enhanced agility, with slight enhanced strength. Too bad natural web-spinning isn't included in the package. Practice can't really help this power; it is what it is. -- no abilities can stem from this power [0/1 character]
--Animal manipulation - The ability to communicate with and control all types of animals. With practice, you'll have more control over animals, you'll be able to communicate with them more clearly, and you'll even gain the power to communicate with/control insects also. -- no abilities can stem from this power [0/2 characters]
--Enhanced vision - Allows you to have x-ray vision (seeing through solid objects) and night vision. With practice, you'll be able to see through more, denser things. -- no abilities can stem from this power [0/2 characters]
--Electronic communication - The ability to intercept, generate, and interpret electronic/digital transmissions using the mind. With practice you'll be able to tap into and hack computers/systems that have thicker defenses. -- the ability that can stem from this power is omnilingualism [0/2 characters]
--Weather manipulation - The ability to control the weather, which includes any type of precipitation and wind currents. With practice, you'll be able to conjure up stronger and stronger storms, as well as different types, for longer amounts of time. -- the ability that can stem from this power is electricity manipulation [0/1 character]
--Poison emission - The ability to emit a deadly poison, which can kill people in one's vicinity/people nearby. It is usually accompanied by a black liquid oozing from the Special's eyes, as well as their victims'. It is one of the more unstable abilities and, like induced radiation, can be unintentionally triggered by strong emotions. Someone else, usually someone in the family, can have the power to reverse the effects of the poison (ability: poison emission reversal). With practice, you'll be able to control the power more- making it more stable- and your range of how far the poison spreads will get larger. Those with abilities have a natural resistance to the poison and take longer to kill, but are still weakened upon contact. -- no abilities can stem from this power [0/2 characters]
--Cytokinesis - It's pretty much the act of self cloning. A parent entity (the person with the ability) creates a completely separate version of them that looks exactly the same as them. This daughter entity would also be independent from the parent and would be able to develop its own personality and mentality. Unfortunately, after a 3 day period, the daughter entity would die and dissipate, returning its energy to the parent. -- no abilities can stem from this power [0/2 characters]
--Sensory deprivation - User is able to numb or paralyze the senses (sight, taste, hearing, feel and/or smell) of any person. With practice, the Special can learn to dull senses more and more, and affect more people at the same time. --the ability that can stem from this power is mind manipulation [0/1 character]
If you'd like to know anything about any other powers, ask me about it. I'd be happy to inform you.

HISTORY
The heroes have faced many an ordeal over the past couple years.
Theron Colt started off as a simple killer who used murder as a way to curb an urge for blood and power. He came across a list of Specials in 2012 and began going after them, one by one. During one of his multiple battles with Kenneth, he acquired the ability to heal from the quirky Coroner. Much later, he attacked Phoenix's rebel camp filled with Specials. He was detained for a while before escaping and bringing rebel Rosa as leverage, and during one last showdown with him and Aaron vs Phoenix, Mach, and Gabe, was blasted with radiation, causing previously blocked childhood memories to come back. He and Aaron went on a road trip to Michigan to find out more about his past, and it was revealed that his father exploited his and his sister's abilities for money, and after his sister became rebellious he was forced to kill her by his father. His mother is still alive as a shapeshifter. After the soul-searching and coming back to New York, he decided he didn't want to kill anymore, and turned himself into a psychiatric facility to stay docile. The government infiltrated the facility looking for Specials, though, so he and Eve escaped.
Sam Burnes moved to the city after his mother was captured by agents, and became a "superhero" while he was at it, joining forces with a special named Lena. Her ways became too extreme for him, so he distanced himself from the vigilante life and tried to live normally for a few years. During this time, he met Aralynne, another Special who could heal, and they soon fell in love. When Ari was captured by agents, Sam was forced to contact Lena, and the two became a team again as they retrieved Ari. Sam and Ari split up soon afterwards, and Sam has been a little lost ever since. He's now enrolled in community college.
Kenneth Lapes has made a name for himself on television as the man who could not be killed. He fought Theron a few times, being the only one to match the killer in skill, and ended up being killed during one battle. But with empathetic mimicry, he got the ability to heal just in time from the Coroner. Another battle with Theron ensued as he tried to protect new friend and telepath Soph, whose little brother Daniel had omniscience. He stayed with them for a while with the Coroner, hiding from agents such as Banes. Now, after a while of running and fighting, he's acquired the ability of shapeshifting and has been hiding from the government - but living too long as another person is causing somewhat of an identity crisis within him.
Ashley "Phoenix" Stone is a hero in the rebel world. She started the rebel group who made camp in the Warehouse, accompanied by such powerful Specials as Frost, Mark "Glitch", and Rosa. After the Warehouse was destroyed and the group disbanded, she became disheartened, thinking the entire group was dead, but when the invisible Sera came back, the two came together in the hopes that others of the group could be found again. However, this was short-lived: agents attacked the both of them, and Phoenix hid Sera in a safehouse before fighting the agents off. Her current status is unknown.
The rebel group that included Frost, Amp, Mirage, Karen, Drake, Yarrow, Mark "Glitch" Ross, Canis, Tarot, Rosa, Elizabeth, Sera, Mach, and Aaron was going strong through 2012. They defeated superpowered Theron as a group, losing Mark in the process, and fought bravely and intelligently against government agents. Mach and Rosa became a couple soon after Rosa, the space-time manipulator, joined the team, and Liz and Canis might have liked each other too, fighting well together against Theron. In July 2013, soon after a plan was proposed by Sera and enacted by Phoenix to send groups out in pairs and increase effectiveness against the agents, it was discovered that Tarot was a traitor, and during a tense scene he forced Liz to kill Frost, Mach's mother, and attack Mirage. Eventually, he forced her to blow up the warehouse. At this point it is still unknown who, other than Phoenix, Mach, Rosa, and Sera, has survived the explosion, but chances are slim.
Sera Carpenter began life as a Special as a timid, socially anxious teen, thrown out of her own house by her family, but being part of Phoenix's rebel group boosted her self-esteem slightly. She joined in its later stages, but still became a key member. She survived the explosion, and spent the year living under the radar with some quiet roommates - until she spotted Phoenix and the two reconnected. She is now hiding in the bunker.
Mason Locke was a guard at one of the largest holding facilities of Specials in the world, the son of a top agent. He was known to use violence against the inmates, and took his job very seriously. However, when it was discovered that he could use his hydrokinesis to heal Mercy's wound, he was betrayed by his father and turned into an inmate for scientific research. He and Mercy escaped the facility, and now he is in the real world, trying to figure everything out - including his allegiance.

Sera didn't like the silence that was growing as the man looked at her - she knew he was trying to answer. And then, he made some sound, a glottal one that seemingly came from throat alone, and it took a couple of seconds before she realized he'd said 'hello'. She was about to say something, but then he got the notepad out, and scribbled the word, too. "Oh, n-no, it's okay. I know you said hello." She laughed a slightly nervous laugh, because she didn't want him to think she was looking down on him. A sadness bubbled up in her stomach, noticing his shaking, and then his attempt at hiding it. If there was one thing she hated, it was letting others think she was judging them in any way. "It's okay, y-you don't have to f-feel bad or anything; you've probably been through a lot. I und-understand." She looked at the ground and kept her eyes there, partly to not make him feel awkward, and partly thinking about her own situation.
Bolts of pain soon turned to slow, distorted waves riding along Theron's arm as he regarded the dark blood blooming from his palm with an unsolicited indifference. He stumbled backwards as more and more stuck into his chest and abdomen - they hurt, but more like a pinch than anything - and felt his body leaning, falling into the girl behind him, the girl he'd forgotten about for a few minutes until now. She's here? Oh, yeah. She's here. Now with someone to protect, he turned his head back forward as he tried to concentrate. Something within screamed at him to act, to do anything, but now he could barely stand straight; the only thing he could do was futilely pull out the darts embedded in his skin.
Then, he felt the glaring heat before he could see a light blazing up ahead. With blurred vision he could not make out where exactly it was coming from, or how it got there, but got the feeling that Eve had something to do with it. I guess that'll do. As if echoing her thoughts, he muttered, "We should probably leave." He managed to turn around, but running away proved more difficult, and the sprint he'd thought he could pull off turned into more of an amble one would expect from a wounded bear. As the relentless heat burned at their backs, he tripped over his own feet and put out a hand against the wall to avoid falling, then focused his eyes on hers, an action more difficult than one would think. "I might need your help, now."

(Thank you!)
The man opened his mouth as if to speak, but thought better of it and took up his paper and pen once more. It took him longer to write this time as he tried to make his words a bit more legible, taking extra care on each letter. Though his shaking hadn't gotten any better, he seemed to be somewhat less bothered by it, now that he had a distraction from whatever terrors lie within his own thoughts. After a few moments of writing and a long pause, he turned the notebook to face her, on it scrawled a name. 'Oliver'
Only the intense fear of dying horrifically in whatever quickly growing blaze emanating from the unfortunate guard prevented Eve from sitting down and giving up all hope surrounding the situation. It was that same fear that pushed her to run, abandon the odd man to his fate. For the second time in the past few minutes, she considered leaving him for extended survival. Though without him, she doubted that survival would be long. If she did run fast enough and escape the blaze, surely the agents would come to investigate and shoot her on sight. And yet, maybe they wouldn't. It was either certain death or nearly certain death. She stood there as precious seconds ticked by, conflicted and useless, biting her lip and refusing to meet his gaze until he said, "I might need your help, now." "Y-you need my help?" She looked him in the eye now, half expecting him to be joking. To her slight dismay, he wasn't. "How am I supposed to help? I don't have any powers. I don't even know how to fight! All I can do is run..." That was when it came to her. Maybe fleeing was the answer all along. Whenever she was out of range of the others she 'infected', they always went back to normal. If she was lucky, the agents would have evacuated this area by now and in moving away, the exploding guard would lose his powers and maybe even pass out in the process. Feeling a flicker of confidence at her plan, she said, "I will come back for you." then took off down the hall.

Sera waited patiently, knowing full well what the man was going through. That is, if all of this was due to some anxiety, and not a physical disorder. She hoped for the first explanation - it was less serious, and she'd then have something in common with this strange man. "Well... I'm Sera." She held out a hand to shake, before quickly pulling it away at the thought that he seemed too fidgety to be comfortable with any physical contact whatsoever. "I j-just got here. Nice place." Disheartened eyes scanned the small room, giving away the blatancy of the hopeful fib.
--
"Do I need your help- yes, I need your help!" Theron snapped, breathing laborious, and gritted his teeth in exasperation as she attempted to explain herself. "I shouldn't have saved you; you've sabotaged everything." He put a palm to his left temple, feeling himself slip ever so slightly, and hearing her say something, but everything was muffled... then, he looked up, and she was gone, loud footsteps receding every second. He could feel his heart skip a beat at the realization. "Wait... wait, I didn't mean that! Agh-" He glanced down at the holes left by the darts, still bleeding through unhealed flesh, and, with a groan, began to crawl across the floor with frenetic yet slow effort after her, heat continuously growing at his back. Until... it wasn't. With wide eyes and heaving lungs, he forced himself to look back. All the agents were on the ground, and ceiling tiles were still crashing to the floor aflame, but the man was no longer as bright as the sun and an explosion seemed no longer eminent. He brought his gaze back forward with a new knowledge gleaming there. "Smart," he muttered.

new joining form is up! the bbcode on these forums is glitchy tho holy moly ]] Chance || Male || 18 || animal morphing || Rebel || Hawki

Skylar Brennan || Female || 25 || Feral Mind || Neutral || Aviva
I might also make a regular on the rebels' side, I haven't decided yet))

(Welcome Aviva and Hawki! Thank you the history addition Anon, they're very well written and especially important now that the old forums are officially gone.
I'm having horrible internet issues at the moment and have already lost an entire post, so I'm going to try to reply later tonight or tomorrow.)

(as this is a continuation of an ongoing rp from the old forums, I'm not quite sure where to begin....)

love them, Aviva! we haven't had a kid since the first rp! and that'd be really interesting if you did make such a character; never had one of those before.
Hawki: Actually I took a long break and all of the old members except for me and Diesel are gone, so with me just coming back the RP is sorta restarting which is convenient. All of my charries except for Theron and Sera are free and haven't been roleplayed in a long time c:
Dragon - thanks!! I felt like this rp has such a rich history that it cant be forgotten. and thats ok! I'm at my grandma's right now so I wouldnt be able to reply anyway hahaha ]]

Ah okay (: So I'm a touch confused, is everyone in the same place? NYC seems to be central, but who knows about who, and where are we starting from in terms of the characters? And one other thing, I tend to write at least two paragraphs per post, I noticed the literacy requirement is two sentences. So I'm a little concerned about writing my typical replies and getting two sentences. I'm really sorry, I don't mean to sound stuck up or snobby. oh sorry didn't see this! Manhattan is mainly where everyone is, but that can vary. right now besides me and Diesel's characters no one really knows anyone else, so they'd meet during RP - unless someone wanted to make a character and set up a history with someone else's characters! it's great that you write long posts - I make two sentences a requirement bc I don't wanna exclude anyone c: don't worry, if there's someone whos a little less literate I'll make sure to be the one to RP with them! ]] I'll make a starting post within 30! Idk if other roleplays are like this; I've only been in this one for a few years, but we've developed this thing where we post and then someone else posts whenever possible - it could be a couple days after. ]]
