I do find it interesting how she keeps her promises. Maybe it's because of when she lost her kits? She kept Crookedstar's promise about becoming leader, even though she wanted him to suffer, after all. I've always found this interesting for her character.

I don't think Mapleshade was actually trying to make him leader. she just said he would be, and then he was leader, so she took credit. idk she never seemed genuine to me.

But that's not thanks to Mapleshade, and she openly admits it:
Mapleshade knew that Crookedstar had potential, and because of his accident he was quite vulnerable. Which is why she latched onto him, and got his trust, so she could subsequently make him suffer. Crookedstar was always promising and she knew about that, so she made it look like she's the source of her success, pushing him further into trusting her. She tried to cut him off from his happiness, and blamed him for all the bad things that happened in his life. All this, to cause him suffering, so she could get revenge on Appledusk's descendants.
