is that they tend to have set personalities based on coat colours.
-white cats usually have blue eyes [and aren't deaf for some reason] and are very prissy, proper, and/or sweet and naïve. they also tend to be female
-orange cats are tough alley cats
-black cats are usually evil and/or jerks
-black and white cats are usually either the standard protagonists or are really unlucky
- grey cats are either wise old mentors or lazy and sarcastic
- protagonists are usually tabbies of some kind
- torties are usually female and often really spunky
- Persians are usually really snooty and upper-class
- Siamese's are always super mean [even though Siamese's are super sweet in real life]
- sphinx cats are also always super mean
I know Redheart is aware of this, but has anyone else noticed this?

Most if the time I try to avert this White Cats: Stoic cats that could easily kill a cat. Very powerful, should be feared, they fear nothing- not even Hell. one of them is literally Stalin. Orange Cats: Usually rely on cleverness, as fighters they are only decent. Started the French Revolution. actually really nice but they try to pretend they aren't Black Cats: usually unfair victims of everybody else, really nice, deserve better Black and White: snooty scumbags who don't care about anybody else, somewhat insecure Gray Cats: naive and innocent bUT NOT FOR LONG, or they're dead technically only one of the two main protagonists are tabbies Torties: Nice cats that hide dark secrets. Sometimes they turn out to be brainwashed killing machines, but it depends really there are no Persians, rip no siameses either but there are orientals no sphinxes either

that would be awesome
[also stalin as a white cat is literally genius]

I mean the entire point of that character is that they deceive others, so naturally their coat is white- it's elegant and beautiful, but in genetics it's a mask for their true fur color honestly an Aristocats rewrite with actual worldbuilding and plot would be 10/10

i guess it's just another sort of... cheap and lazy trick for visual design. like, if people already associate characters with certain appearances with a certain personality, the writers and designers get to do things very quickly and 'show not tell' in a reliable (but boring) way which i think is bad storytelling, and has (if we're talking about tvtropes) unfortunate implications when it comes to things that end up being racist, sexist, homophobic, or otherwise insensitive. (like the disney siamese cats)

(like the disney siamese cats) I don't think there's any unfortunate implications In associating certain colours with personalities in cats [except for the Aristocats/Lady and the Tramp Siamese cats lol], but it does get really boring after a while. I like it when media subverts tropes like that [like how Oliver from Oliver And Company is sweet and kind of naïve even though he's an orange cat. granted he is a kitten but still]

Tortoiseshell and calico cats are always female, that's just how they are genetically. And they are usually mean and snippy, I've never met a relaxed or nice female calico or tortoiseshell lol
