Me staying up until 3am and then waking up at 11am every morning until I realize that I have been doing nothing with my life....
I kinda need school.....but I'm also terrified because it would be my first year of high school and that's pretty scary...
Hey teens out there, what is high school even like? It's not THAT bad, right?

high school isn't that bad
freshman and junior year were a joke; sophomore year would have been a joke if I hadn't been having major issues; senior year, well, wasn't a joke but I made it through while treating it like one
depending on how your district is there might be established cliques but at the same time schedules become more varied so people are more split up

Also the the quality of the high school depends on which one you go to. And turns out I'm going to the high school known to have drugs...but the school itself and the students are pretty nice. (apart from the drug adicts)

the first week is a mess. in my experience as long as you're not a jerk you don't get bothered (however this depends on how the behavior of the kids in your school are in general). unless you have good work ethic prepare to have a trashed sleep schedule. do yourself a favor and review notes every night after taking them. it doesn't have to be much just a quick glance over them works, but it makes studying easier. you have more independence in high school and it feels very nice. prepare stuff the night before. also if ya don't have time to eat breakfast heat something up quickly that you can carry and eat it on the way out and when you get to school (assuming you get there before the bell rings. i usually had 20 minutes of free time before school and i ate stuff then)

Nope, not THAT bad. In fact, I thought my freshman year was the worst, but it's still not that bad. Just be comforted that it doesn't get any worse.
Basically, as a freshman, you'll be the kid of the campus. The older people might look down on you a bit, and the teachers are much more strict on the freshmen since they have no idea what they're doing. Expect more homework than in middle school, but it won't be that bad. You have so many restrictions on you that you have a pretty well-defined schedule and routine, so that's nice for the first year.
Starting in your sophomore year and beyond, things get a little more fun. You have much more freedom, but at the cost of homework almost every night, especially if you take Advanced Placement courses. It's still not that bad. You'll have many more options for classes and you'll start to be able to take courses based on the career path you're choosing. Extracurriculars also get more involved as well. I absolutely loved my sophomore year and I know a lot of people who did too.
At the end of the day, here's some pointers for your freshman year: -DON'T procrastinate -Leave the older kids alone, and they'll mostly leave you alone -Don't be worried about the social aspect and who you hang out with, there'll be plenty of time for that in later years -Joining clubs and extracurriculars is encouraged but there will also be plenty of time in later years -Try to enjoy it! You're entering the last few years of your childhood. Let them be worthwhile.

Well, high school is different for everyone of course, but from my experience, it's not that bad. In fact, the time I spent in my high school were probably the best four years of my life.

Depends on the school. Since I just finished Freshman year I can confirm it's not bad, but it's also not that glorified version of high school you see in movies and such. It's kinda like a more laid back, less chaotic middle school with slightly harder classes.

We all come from different backgrounds and have different goals, so the best advice I can give is that high school is what you make of it.

But I signed up for theater!!!! Was it just a bad experience for you or are you saying that because we're nerds or....? its because you cant escape, once youre in theatre you become a theatre kid forever and were nerds I've already been sucked in at middle school... I was imprisoned as a theater nerd for three years now.

For me middle school sucked arse but high school has been a lot better
People seem to be less cliquey and nicer and I think its bc of maturity
You get a little bit of that bs freshman year but by sophomore year its basically nonexistent
Also as a freshie you'll get picked on a bit by upperclassman like being booed at during prep rallies and stuff but as long as you act like it doesn't faze you they'll leave you alone more likely than not
Also if you have friend issues high school is a great way to fix that, and I'm being serious when I say join a club and get active within the community, it'll help you find people with similar interests and build new friendships

If possible, try to go to smaller schools. The big mainstream public ones are complete trash because nobody cares about school there and it's just crowded. While you do have more freedom in bigger schools, I'd rather have classmates that are actually decent at the cost of restricted classes. At least, that's how it is where I'm at. I go to a small school and it's been amazing, but pretty difficult.

And the school I'm going to had two floors added because so many students go there....so that's already set it stone for me.

But she goes to a different school and the students at my school are giants. As for the club thing I don't know if I can join an official club but I am thinking about joining the school play. I was in it this year for middle school and I received positive feedback but I don't know if I'm good enough for a high school play...

im Canadian, and our high school system is apparently slightly less awful then the American one so keep that in mind
how good/bad high school is depends on what you're school is like. like my school isnt too bad for rules or staff, but the people who go there are really annoying and the building is falling apart.
overall though, as long as you have a good work ethic and keep to yourself you should be fine.

(Thats what we call the plays) and I can promise you that the only difference is the budget (if there even is money in the club) and amount of people interested, you'll do good! And you can make friends that way too since its a common interest

I personally enjoyed High School, but mostly because I got involved. I joined the swim team and won several competitions and leagues with them, and that felt nice even if my grades weren't so nice. I was never terribly good- on my senior year I only got on varsity once because a bunch of people were sick, but that wasn't the point- I went from being an ok swimmer to a good one, I felt a part of a community, and I even had a couple freshies look up to me my senior year (not sure how, I barely spoke and was pretty invisible). It was crazy hard work and emotionally draining- my parents tried to get me to quit more that once- but it was worth it in the end, and it taught me how to work hard, to shut up and stop complaining, and that I can get rewarded for trying.
Outside of sports admittedly wasn't super fun, but it depends on the year. Freshman year was the easiest environmentally and the hardest academically, while senior year was opposite. When I say environmentally, I mean regarding the class's attitude. I really really really wish I'd taken some harder classes my junior and senior year because everyone's motivation went off the deep end and half of classes was class disruption and teachers getting upset. If you're willing/able to do some extra work, take some advanced classes, not to look smart but to stay sane and avoid wanting to rip some people's hair out.

My last year of middle school some first years looked up to me in drama club even though I'm dorky and hyper and just plain old weird lol.
