wisdom teeth removal tomorrow
it's local anasthetic so i'll be awake im supposed to wake up an hour early (6:30) to take a loopy pill afterwards i have 48 hours of liquid only diet (no sugary stuff) pain is supposed to be uncomfortable and bearable with a little tylenol but
idk im super scared?? ive never done anything remotely like this before. i dont know what the loopy pills will feel like. or what my pain tolerance is. what if "bearable" for everyone else is very painful for me? won't it be terrifying to be awake? and my dad and i leave for boston exactly 48 hours afterwards. they said i should be fine to fly but what if im not. what if my recovery ruins this trip. and the surgery itself, how long is it gonna take? idk
basically shad is close to having a panic attack over this i hate hate hate not knowing what to expect like theoretically yes i know but not from personal experience

i got mine out a few years ago. it's not that scary. see, im used to surgeries bc as a kid, i've had tons of eye surgeries (i had that condition where one eye was crooked and they had to keep adjusting my eye muscles to fix it). so when i got my wisdom teeth out, they sat me in a chair in a room. i waited for a while, they asked me questions, etc. then they poked me to do the IV and the thing to put me under. then i woke up some time later and it was SUPER trippy. it felt like i was out for a few seconds but it had been hours. and when they came in to check on me, i kept drifting back into sleep bc i felt super tired still. and when i woke up again, they were like "you've been sleeping for a while" but it felt like a few seconds again. REAL trippy. i then noticed they had put cotton in my mouth and i felt all fuzzy in the face.
on the drive home (after my mom picked up my pain medicine), the pain FINALLY kicked in and it hurt like HELL. but i took the medicine when i got home and it was okay. i had to live of of just soup and water for a few days until i wasnt paranoid about the wound.

They had to put me completely under to remove all four of my wisdom teeth, and an extra tooth That hadn't surfaced yet under my tongue.
I did also have to get an extra muscle clipped in my lip and I was awake for that. I just kept my eyes closed and I was fine.

I have to get mine out on the 10th and I'm extremely scared with being put to sleep and being out of it. I was nearly crying just in the first stage when I had to go set the date to go get them out. My brother got them out and was in pain for an entire week. I honestly wish I could do it awake, that'd at least put it out of nope territory for me... I've never even had surgery.
But enough about me. I hope it goes well for you and that you don't have too much pain.

even if you're gonna be awake, im pretty sure you wont remember it. i think i had local ana too, so basically you're awake for it so you can cooperate but afterwards you wont remember so it will feel like you were asleep.
pain was bearable. just take ur pain meds and it will be fine. i had hydrocodone and it did the trick.
the worst part, honestly, is afterwards when you take the cotton out, it will feel like your mouth is FILLED with blood. like you will look like you're bleeding a lot. when i got home and took out the cotton it was like blood was just pouring out of my mouth. i lowkey freaked out lol but it only looks like a lot because the blood is mixed with saliva so like dont worry abt it. you'll be gross for a little while but the next day it'll be over
i didnt get loopy pills, i got laughing gas and it feels really weird. you know how in those movies when someone gets hit with a tranquilizer and the voices go all deep and slow? my voice sounded like that as i was telling the doctor my birthday and their voices sounded normal so i felt really embarrassed bc i was like my voice??? is so ugly???? and colors went dull and white and thats all i remember. then i woke up. and the nurses were like 'dont fall asleep. hey. dont fall asleep!' like rude let me rest

i should probably clarify that when i say "loopy pills" im talking about diazepam. which basically removes anxiety and causes some feelings of euphoria.

But if you have a stuffed animal or something you think will help ease some of the anxiety, I'd bring it. They let me bring my favorite stuffed animal.

Make sure you let us know how it goes! I'll be thinking of you! I still haven't gotten my wisdom teeth out at 21...you can see them coming down on the x ray but my dentist keeps saying until they cause me pain they'll leave them in
And for some odd reason I'm a mutant who has 5 of them instead of the usual 4 xD So now I REALLY don't wanna have them pulled, it'll just be extra pain/work

Northstar3213 The dentist said that when they put you under they gotta put a clamp on your jaw to keep it open, and it can be really easy to overstretch your jaw and cause soreness and possibly problems later. Whereas when you're awake, albeit muddied, you can follow their instructions to open your mouth wide when they need you to.
@starflower: I had a dream last night that the whole thing had already happened and the diazepam caused me to forget the whole thing. But then I woke up. :[ Some people don't need their wisdom teeth removed. I do because mine have come in at an angle and art lodged under the lip of my molars, forcing the roots to grow down rather than pushing the tooth up, so eventually they'll hit my main nerve cord and cause severe pain later on.

I guess what I'm so scared of is that I'm the unpredictable factor. I'm not worried about the dentist messing up, or recovery going wrong, but that I don't know what to expect from myself.

I had mine out, and like Anubis said really the only bad part was cleaning the wounds. It was pretty uncomfortable and disgusting though its only bloody the first day or two, it gets better after that. But yeah, just keep your wounds clean and don't get food stuck in them and you'll be fine.

Good to hear you're doing okay Tip from my own experience: if you feel kind of sick at all, ease off on the painkillers; they'd given me some strong stuff, but I found that the pain actually wasn't too bad and regular-dose over-the-counter painkiller was sufficient and taking that instead of the strong stuff made me feel better.
