"Exactly, sir. I could ask you that myself. What kind of a man hisses? I can tell you are lying to me; your every action hints at an attempt to deceive me. The pitch of your voice, your increasingly desperate attempts to leave this alleyway. I'm trained to see unusual things, sir, and I am trained to be observant. I know you hissed, and you know this too. So if you could spare me your lies, it would be greatly appreciated. I have a murder case to solve and not a lot of time to waste trying to figure you out, Mr Evans." Gabriel responded.
At the mention of a smell, Gabriel took a deep breath in, to see if he could detect the smell that Noah was talking about. Nothing. There was no smell, bar the faintest smell of stale blood. A smell so minuscule that you'd have to be looking for it to notice. Surely it wasn't this smell that was making Noah nauseous? No. And why should Gabriel have detected any major scent? The woman had been dead long enough for the scent of blood to have dissipated but not long enough for her to have begun to rot.
"I can smell nothing," Gabriel replied "This woman has been dead only a few hours, by my calculations. Rigor mortis hasn't even properly set in yet. The scent of her blood has widely dissipated, so I cannot detect any smell so terrible that you would hiss and need to leave so abruptly. I am a detective, sir, and lying to me is both impossible and not recommended. I want to know what all of this is about."
Gabriel wanted to know what it was about this man that was making his pulse go crazy, making the veins on his neck throb as his heart rate increased. What it was that gave him the feeling of dread that hung heavy in his stomach as he looked at him.

"Exactly," Noah said, gesturing in the vague direction of the body. "She's... fresh. Barely cold." He paused, then added, "You're not of any help, I hope you know. Gods, you have to be the only detective in London who actually bothers to show up at a crime scene before the crows get to it. Just my luck, I suppose."
Clearly, he'd given up all attempts to continue his deceit. It wasn't serving his purpose which, currently, was as simple as to get out of here without staining his clothes on the blood of someone he hadn't planned to hurt. If he had to reveal his secret to this man then he would. If the alternative was someone discovering the body of a dead detective, he'd take the risk. He liked London far too much to simply kill and run.
"The blood was distracting before you got here," he continued in a sneer, showing an impressive row of teeth. Most notable, of course, were the sharp fangs that replaced his upper canines. "And then you had to come and break my focus. I would have been fine if you'd just been two minutes later. Now I have to smell this blood and focus on you and it's not particularly pleasant." His desperation to escape was turning into fear and rage. It wouldn't be long until Gabriel Hunter would have cornered not an uncomfortable man but a frightened animal and he had to stop that from happening. "Now, please, if you must interrogate me, at least minimise the chances of this coat getting bloodied and ruined and take me somewhere she isn't first."

Gabriel raised an eyebrow "And me getting to a crime scene promptly is...a bad thing?" he questioned, before shaking his head in confusion. He had absolutely no idea of what the hell was going on anymore. He'd just come to check out the crime scene and take some notes before anybody else got there and trashed the place. And now he was dealing with...well...whatever Noah Evans was.
That was when the man showed his teeth, something which prompted Gabriel to involuntarily step back in shock. Of course he was. Here he was, in a dark alleyway in the middle of the night, with a vampire. A vampire with the smell of blood in his nostrils.
"I knew it," Gabriel sighed "Of course you are. I get woken up at an ungodly hour of the morning to investigate a crime scene and there's a vampire there. Alright, Mr Evans, you also took a great interest in trying to solve his case, it would seem. So how about you make yourself useful and solve it with me instead of skulking about at the crime scenes in the middle of the night? And I won't assume that all of this was you? Because the fact that you're a vampire just made it a whole lot easier to explain some of the weird injuries on these women. I am very good at hunting people down, and I would find you, no matter where you went."

Just the extra step of space between then made Noah relax visibly. He could do this. He took a deep breath, then immediately regretted it. He didn't even need to breathe, for god's sake. For a while, he was almost distracted by the blood and the relief of only having one source overwhelming him. That was when he finally heard what Gabriel was saying. He could practically feel himself pale.
Even at first glance, it sounded like a threat. If he ran, the murders would be pinned on him. This in and of itself didn't scare him. He could easily run and evade Gabriel until the man aged and died. He'd done such things before and with the resources of a man who'd had centuries to collect wealth and contacts, he was sure that not even a man of Scotland Yard would find there was little he could do. All he had to do was make it to France and he'd be free. Mr Hunter would do nothing but waste time and for a vampire who had so much of it left, the idea of doing the same didn't quite have the same effect.
No, what scared him were the implications. He could leave, yes, but he didn't want to. He had a home here in London. His work, while unconventional by human standards, was here. Leaving would be easy but settling down somewhere else would be a lot more difficult. Besides, he wanted to stay in London. Something told him that this was where the next explosion of history would be and he wanted to be there. He'd missed the renaissance, he'd been in Asia at the time, and he was still a little bitter. What was immortality for if not to see history made.
But what finally convinced him wasn't the threat Gabriel had meant to make or the one that made him pause. What convinced him was the offer. His work was simple, investigate strange occurrences such as these and determine whether or not it was a threat to the supernatural underworld and its secrecy. Imagine how much easier that would be if he didn't have to hide in the shadows but had Scotland Yard itself behind him, whether they realised it or not. He wouldn't have to struggle half as much.
"Threatening a vampire is a dangerous game, Mr Hunter," he said, finally. "And you and I both know I wasn't responsible for these murders, or else I wouldn't be so hungry. But I understand that it may take some convincing to make you entirely certain about your stance, and if aiding you in your investigation is what it takes, so be it."

Gabriel let out a mental sigh of relief when the vampire didn't decide to kill him right there and then and instead said that he would help him. But what he couldn't figure out was why the man had agreed to help him. If they both knew he wasn't responsible for the murders, why was this man humouring him and trying to prove his innocence? What was actually going on here?
"Well, I'm pleased to hear that," Gabriel replied "But I have to ask; why are you actually helping? What I just said was on the off-chance that helping me would be beneficial to you and you would accept. I didn't believe you would actually agree for a moment unless this would help you in some way; after all, I know I don't actually pose a very real threat to you. So what's going on? Why are you so interested in solving this case?"
Maybe he was pushing his luck, but asking questions was sort of his job. He wanted to know what he was getting into here since he was working with someone who was an actual vampire.
[Excuse my length x Can't do long replies atm]

( it's all good, I get it ^^ )
Noah gave a small smile, though it was twisted by the grimace he'd been wearing for some time now. "So you're not as idiotic as that veiled threat made you seem," he mused. "Good. That means I won't have to pull all the weight here."
He considered his next words carefully. His job, after all, was to protect the supernatural from discovery. He'd already made a risky choice tonight, he wasn't sure how much more he wanted to reveal. He had nothing to gain from sharing. "Let's just say I have financial gains on the line and a personal interest in seeing this case closed for now. If you're as good as you say you are, I'm sure you'll figure it out soon."
This, he thought, was a suitable compromise. "Now, if you don't mind, the body. I want to leave and the longer we stand here talking, the longer it will take for me to leave this awful smell behind. I assure you, it's in both our interests to set that conversation aside until I'm far away from here."

Gabriel had raised an eyebrow at the man's reply up until the mention of the body, in response to which the young man quickly nodded and stepped aside to allow the vampire to pass him. He did not much desire being a victim of a vampire attack. He could just imagine the headlines about the discovery of the body of a young detective working on the Jack the Ripper case.
He was still incredibly relieved at how he had managed to live this long in the presence of a vampire; he hadn't expected to get off as easily. God knew he hadn't expected the vampire to agree to help him!
He cast one last glance at the body of the woman, at a crime scene which had the usual lack of evidence. The problem with the Jack the Ripper case was that he never left much evidence. The police didn't know much at the moment - they only knew that all of the murders were linked.

( it's totally fine, I certainly don't mind! as long as you don't mind some poking, it's all good x also my posts might be short for a while, sorry 'bout that )
Noah walked to and crouched down by the body, once more looking as if he'd vomit any moment, but focused on the details. It helped somewhat. He didn't stay down for long, knowing that he was already tempting fate by sticking around. He should have been out of here a long time ago.
"I'm satisfied," he said, rejoining Gabriel. He made sure to put a little more distance between them than could really be considered polite. If that was what it took to keep himself in check, so be it. "If you wish to examine her, by all means, but I don't wish to remain here any longer."

me too honestly cx hmmmm... so the way I see it, we have two options. either we explore the supernatural world a little further or we focus on the murders for a while. at this point, I think a little focus on the supernatural would be best, but either way works just fine imo

alright then! so is Gabriel the kind of person to poke for more info on it or would the supernatural have to be the party that starts the whole thing?
