as a kid I wasn't allowed to watch movies that would make me cry unfortunately I was a crybaby who cared about nonexistent things and characters (I was a coward honestly and naturally everyone knew of me as "ungrateful whiny coward who's a total sycophant to the teacher and freaks out at everything" so I couldn't watch many things so I decided to train myself not to cry by laughing at the sad parts, making fun of everything, learning about how everything is a cliche without any good usage and that characters deserve to suffer, writing stories where the characters didn't succeed and ended up scarred for life, etc.
this worked well but now it means I can't take anything seriously, never cry during everything, and not really care about most people
so 9-year-old me basically trained myself into becoming a psycho just so that I could watch more movies. Good Job Me

I had a similar thing, but where I wasn't allowed to watch movies when they got to the "scary" parts (Mum would just turn them off).
So I started creating little background stories for all the villains on how they didn't actually start out evil, essentially society/and/or unfortunate circumstances just made them that way. This made them less "scary" as a concept. But then the villains all instantly would become my favourite characters, because like, cool backstory, bro.
Fast forward a decade or so and I consistently date people with sociopathic tendencies. Hmm.

when i was younger i used to hate horror movies. one day i learned to look at them from a logical standpoint, then they became laughable. plus i'm into filmmaking so i can pick apart the cinematography, lighting, dialogue, etc.

This is how I watch movies: If it's the first time I sit quietly and enjoy. If it's my second me and my dad rant about what doesn't make sense and why.
