. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Mistkit After leaving the cavern, Mistkit had headed straight to the bottom of the mountain. From there, she followed her idea and darted around in search of a small space. The pine trees were thin and tall and the undergrowth was sparse, so, instead, she looked for crevices in the mountain. Thankfully, it wasn't too hard. Soon, she was squeezed into a crack in the rough wall of rock. She was far enough away from the trail up to the cavern, but the land was still uneven, ridges jutting out here and there. She hoped her hiding spot was small and concealed enough.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Mottlekit As quick as he could, Mottlekit scampered over to the thickest clump of brambles around, which still wasn't quite much. But before he shoved himself into them, he remembered the pine needles. So, he dropped onto his back and rolled in the prickly, dead-brown carpet on the forest floor, and soon, they were stuck in his pelt at all angles. It was uncomfortable, but they would help disguise his fur and his smell with their tangy scent of pine sap. Then, he wriggled into the brambles as fast as he dared. He didn't want any thorns stuck in his pelt too. Dream wasn't the main target in this game, but Rattlesnake wouldn't have found it that difficult to pick him out. Still, the hawk circled above before diving, shifting into cat form again when it landed. Rattlesnake shook out his fur, debating what to change into next. His laughter rang out, informing everything where he was, but he didn't care. What to do, what to do? With a sharp shift, the cat became a basset hound, low to the ground. Bred for tracking down hares, he figured it was his best shot. Sniffing about, it was easy to pick up hints here and there of both the kits and his mate. The dog snuffled around, then broke into a fast run, barreling toward the tree Dream had been hiding in. At some point, the one eyed tom had moved. Who knew where ... The basset hound spun, huffing in either frustration or amusement. Never mind. He could still track the scent, even now, but Dream needed a chance to hide again. He meandered down Silverkit's trail, something he could pick out with little to no trouble, until he was squeezing around rocks. She'd been very smart this time. Trying to find a hiding spot he couldn't fit into. And he found it, but she was right ... he couldn't get in, though he did sniff around the entrance. A second later, the basset hound became a ringtail, tail longer than his cat form. He chittered a bit, then started wiggling the tail around into Silverkit's hiding spot. Come on ... he thought.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Mistkit For a little while, Mistkit thought her hiding spot was good enough to keep Rattlesnake out, as he was yet to find her in it. But then she heard scuffling and sniffing and chittering from outside her crevice, and she figured Rattlesnake must've found her. Mouse-dung. She should've done something to disguise her scent. Still, it didn't look like Rattlesnake could get inside, and all Mistkit could see from her spot wedged inside the rock was a striped tail flicking in through the entrance and trying to reach her. Mistkit tried to squeeze backward in her spot, knowing that if Rattletail managed to touch her, that would technically mean she'd lost. She hoped he wouldn't be able to get to her and would give up to go off and find the others. (*cries because inactivity*)

Squirrel brightened up a bit. "Sure! What are you wanting to learn?" . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Sandkit "Um..." Sandkit started. There were so many things! "Well, like, how could I save a cat from a fire without them getting burnt? They don't have powers like me!" Squirrel sat down to think for a moment. "Well, since your immune you could find an area where the flames are less strong and roll around right there to get them out. The other cat will then have a small window to get out before the fire stretches there again." . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Sandkit "Okay!" Sandkit mewed. She hoped she would remember this for if she ever did get to rescue a cat from a fire. "I wish I could try that sometime, but there isn't much fire here. I only reason I know that I have this power anyway was an accident." She sighed. Squirrel thought for a moment. "Are any of the kits able to cause fires? And is another able to use water?" . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Sandkit "Uh..." Sandkit thought over this for a moment. She'd never met a kit who could create fire, but she had met one who could create water. "There's Wavekit, he can make water. But he's mean." The older kit often used his powers to mess around with the others. "And I think there's a trainee who can breath fire... which sounds kinda weird..." "Maybe we can talk to Maplestone and see if we can practice?" . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Sandkit "Okay!" Sandkit replied. But, as she turned to look for Maplestone, she saw that the founder of the Home was currently talking to another cat. "Uh oh. She looks busy. What do we do now?" "We be patient and wait for her to not be busy." Squirrel smiled softly and sat down, wrapping her tail around her paws. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Sandkit "Okay," Sandkit mewed. Maplestone was only helping one cat, she would probably be done soon. The she-kit sat next to Squirrel and waited, trying to be patient. (This is where we left off. I guess we can say that Maplestone isn't busy now.)

Ok.))
Squirrel stood and moved toward Maplestone, her tail swishing behind her as she smiled brightly at the other. "Hello Maplestone, I had a quick question."

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Maplestone Maplestone was sitting outside the entrance to her den in the cavern wall, watching the kits as they scampered and played and talked to their possible adopters. Her whiskers twitched with amusement and adoration at the sight of all of them getting along so well. When a she-cat padded up to her, though, she turned away from the kits and faced Squirrel to listen. "You can ask me whatever you like," Maplestone replied with a polite smile.

"Well Sandkit was asking me about ways that she could use her powers to help others. I gave her an idea that if there was ever a fire she could find somewhere that the flames are less aggressive and out them out, allowing the other to jump through the window." Squirrel sat down now, curling her tail around her paws. "Sandkit then told me there's two kits here, one that can summon water and one that can breath fire. This wuld be a great chance for all of them to practice their powers. The fire can be stared by one, then put out later by the one who can summon water. I'll stay inside the flames and Sandkit can practice by getting me out." She smiled softly. "No need to worry about me getting hurt, I'm immortal."

She hoped he wouldn't be able to get to her and would give up to go off and find the others. (*cries because inactivity*) She was pretty far in there. This was a lot more difficult than Rattlesnake had expected. Still, in whatever form he took, if he had a tail it was almost unusually long. He wasn't really sure if he could tap Mistkit, but he was trying. His tail inched along, carefully not getting caught. The tip was inches from Mistkit's nose, wiggling around in front of her eyes. Then Rattlesnake manged to just brush her across the face. The shift happened suddenly and the tail disappeared. Or mostly. The cat's tail was back and was now being pulled out with some tufts of fur remaining on some of the rocks. Rattlesnake purred with amusement. "You're deep in there."

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Maplestone "Hmm," Maplestone hummed, thinking over the suggestion. "I think that's a great idea, showing her more about her powers. Just remember that she's only three moons old, and there's only so much she can handle, even if she thinks she could take on a wildfire." She chuckled. "A small fire would be best, and safest down near the lake, away from other kits and the forest." Maplestone thought it was perfectly fine for kits to get just a small taste of what their powers were like before they really began to train at six moons old, just as long as no one got hurt. And, honestly, learning how to help others more would be great for Sandkit.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Mistkit Mistkit held her breath when Rattlesnake's tail inched closer and closer to her face, willing him to not be able to reach any farther, but then he touched her and it was over. The way he just barely tapped her made her whiskers tickle. He'd found her fairly quickly, though, and she wished she'd seen it coming. "Aww," Mistkit moaned, exaggerating disappointment. She wriggled out of the crevice, and once she was out in the open again, her fur was bunched up in all the wrong angles. "Dream was right," she told Rattlesnake, purring with amusement. "You are good at this."

Squirrel nodded and smiled widely, happy about her agreement. "I couldn't agree more. A small ring of fire around me and the Sandkit can try to put out a small area of it so I can get out. Right after that it'll get put out and I'll keep an eye on the spot to make it sure it's fully out afterwards."

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Maplestone Maplestone dipped her head in consent. "In that case, we'd better find the others you wanted to involve in this experiment." She rose to her paws in her place in front of her den. "Their names are Wavekit and Flamepaw, and they should be around." She remembered seeing Wavekit just a few minutes ago. She looked back to where she'd seen him last, by the stream running through the center of the cavern. Sure enough, there he was, having a conversation with Rosekit. "There he is," she mewed. "Would you like me to go with you to ask him? With Sandkit as well?"

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Maplestone "Sure thing," Maplestone replied. "I'll fetch him and bring him back down to you." She then gave Squirrel a friendly smile and nod of goodbye and turned to head off to the Trainees' Cave, leaping over the small stream as she went. She turned onto the ledge leading to the cave, padded up the pathway and through the arched entrance, and then she was gone.

His form shifted into that of a monkey again and he raised off in the direction of the forest again. He'd try around the trees. He had a feeling Dream was in that direction anyway. Leaf mulch was kicked up as the monkey-Rattlesnake trotted through it. He shifted through some of it, wondering if Mottlekit was close enough to the same color to hide this way. (Was he hiding in a bush? I can't remember. XD )

It sounded like someone was coming, and they were getting closer. It must be Rattlesnake here to find me, Mottlekit guessed, his needle-covered pelt prickling with apprehension. He made sure to stay extra still where he crouched, so that if Rattlesnake passed by, no movement would catch his attention through the leaves.

Outside of the brambles he shifted back to cat form and said, amused, "I honestly didn't expect to step on your tail, dear one." There was a slight huff and then a shift in one of the bushes. Then Dream exited it, shaking out his fur. His whiskers twitched in amusement and he rolled his eye. "You didn't actually have to step on it, did you?" "It was an accident," protested Rattlesnake, sounding pained. Dream rolled his eye again, but seemed to find Rattlesnake slightly humorous since his whiskers were still twitching. "Nice try." Rattlesnake gently licked his shoulder before moving back to rustling nearby bushes. He didn't approach the brambles, unaware of Mottlekit being there. Instead, he avoided them because he had long fur and it didn't mix well with things with thorns. Dream padded away, heading for Mistkit. His tail was held high and he gave her a mrrw of greeting. "Is this fun?" he asked seriously, looking back at his mate.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Mottlekit Mottlekit could hear Rattlesnake and Dreams's voices outside the brambles, along with the rustling of bushes, and even see hints of movement through the leaves. Pine forests had much less undergrowth than most forests, and there were only so many bushes Rattlesnake could check, so it was only a matter of time before he was discovered. He just hoped he would be the last one to be found, at least. That would make him almost the winner of the game, besides Rattlesnake.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Mistkit Mistkit had followed Rattlesnake into the forest from where she'd been hiding, watching from nearby as the tom continued to discover other hiding places. Now that he'd found her and Dream, only Mottlekit was left. And though she could easily find his spot by looking into the future to when he was eventually found, it was Rattlesnake's job to find him, and she wouldn't give anything away. She simply talked to Dream instead. "Yeah, it is!" she replied. Even she had to admit that simple games helped relieve stress about future things, but... she still had to wonder. "When—or, I guess, if—you and Rattlesnake adopt me, will we still play games like this?"

The shift into a cat included the paw which reached in to bop Mottlekit on the nose and then Rattlesnake was a small dog again who excitedly bounced around and wagged his tail as he waited for the little kit to come out. The excited energy of a small dog was a lot easier to show than that of a cat. After a fair bit of tail wagging, Rattlesnake shifted again and said, "Good job! You and Mistkit hid well!" His eyes sparkled with excitement. Still paying attention to Mistkit, Dream said, "Of course!" His voice was a purr. "If you wanted to. Do you see him?" He nodded at Rattlesnake. "He lives for this. And I enjoy it as well. And there are many other things we can do. Games can be one of them, but there is always more than that. Sometimes it's just fun to have someone to talk to if you ever need it or someone else who's willing to run next to you and with you for however long you want to run. We can do that too. Or any suggestions you have."
