we got dem warlock descriptionpossibly origin story numero uno - Magic.
From the beginning of time, beings were created to please the gods and mirrored them in likeness and image. They were happy, peaceful, and flourishing.
However, this peace did not last long, for these creatures, called humans, began to become obsessed with their own image. They forgot the gods. Angered by their vanity, the gods created demons. These demons, although lesser to the gods, were too powerful. They destroyed everything in their paths, and they wrought destruction on the once peaceful humans.
Fearing for their lives, a small village of humans prayed to the gods and burnt fires sacrificing their only food. They pleaded for a way to protect themselves from the demons.
The gods, both moved by this village and fearful that these demons would soon destroy all they had laid out, agreed to help the village. Izoth, the god of power, appeared the the village, he picked a select few of the healthy, strong villagers, and he gave them the gift of magic. They were to be warlocks. Proud of his work, he also added what would later be seen as a curse to this gift: what is called the warlock's mark. To designate his chosen defenders, he gave them each a mark which resembled some part of a demon, be it eyes, hands, skin, or otherwise.
While demons were still rampant, these warlocks fought them off. But after decades turned to centuries, there were no demons left on the earth, and there was no more need for warlocks, though they still continued to survive.
origin story numero dos - blargh. who needs an origin story anyway description - Warlocks are creatures who can use magic. Most warlocks practice any type of magic, though a few do excel in one area of magic in particular. Oftentimes, a warlock's magical capabilities depend on how old they are as well as how prominent their warlock's mark is.
Like humans, warlocks are inherently social creatures. However, they tend to mingle more with their own kind. Warlock families usually stick together, though occasionally warlocks may separate themselves from their family for unknown reasons. Warlock births happen every decade or so, because warlocks age very slowly. Siblings can range in age difference from years to decades.
Warlocks fall in love only once in their lifetime. What humans would call a "soulmate" is normal for warlocks, though they may have "flings"-- that of which may last longer than a few nights-- with other warlocks whom they do not truly love (because who wants to wait 200 years?) Once these two soulmates are near each other, it is very likely that they may have a weak mental link that allows them to sense how their soulmate is feeling emotionally or physically.
A warlock may also fall in love with a human. When this happens, a platonic bond forms so strongly that the human becomes what is called a "familiar." This occurrence is very rare, however, and even rarer since the appearance of warlock communities some centuries ago. A familiar is a human that can also take on the appearance of an animal. They are completely faithful to their warlock, and their warlock is completely faithful to them. They are also bonded mentally.
Now, why do warlocks not mingle with humans? Well, though their nature is no different from humans' (some good, some bad, some neither, etc.) all warlocks posses a warlock's mark. A warlock's mark is some feature that resembles an animal-- from ram horns to scales to canine teeth. The bigger and more prominent a warlock's mark, the more powerful the warlock is likely to be. That said, weak warlocks would have no trouble blending into human society (and sometimes they do) but strong warlocks would have a very hard time.
