that's so sad omg kelpie just sounds like a naturally sad word, too which just makes the whole thing worse ;-;
I always get slytherin or ravenclaw, too. I think that's because I'm a ravenclaw with slytherin ambition, but it's honestly just as likely that I'm a slytherin with the ravenclaw curiousity and creativity I've never gotten gryffindor, either. and, come to think of it, I don't know that many gryffindors. maybe they're a rare breed cx

trying to make ours look as similar as i can, haha. it always bugs me when personal formatting is different- nothing wrong with it, just that it's nice when it all fits together perfectly. i love all of the people you've made ^^
and as another note, i overcomplicate things way too much. such as trying to get the text that feels right. turns out it's as simple as just changing the font size to a one. how have i not figured it out until months after i wanted something to feel right ugh when you have the choice of fonts and text sizes it's so hard and then when proboards has so many more options to choose from than the old old forums it feels like a luxury

haha, why do I feel like that's exactly the kind of thing I'd do? and thank you ^^ for some reason just basic descriptions is exhausting like?? it's just ten words per person but it feels like so much more.
maybe we could get the ball rolling and keep working on the characters on the side? I have a feeling I'll be here for another week or something ^^'

definitely. i could never describe a character well personally- the rp is also what shapes them and they're their own people and just. ugh. and sameness is just good because it brings peace to my heart. and i'm always a bit rambly and wordy on things whoops
sure! are there any specifics to the first meeting we'd want? nearly running out of time for the first years / possibly something else? idk.
and would they have animagus forms? it would be interesting if they did, but i feel like artem would just use their kelpie abilities and choose an 'animagus form' just because it apparently represents who you are and they wanted everyone to think of them a certain way.

it takes time for sure and I just don't have enough for fourteen of them. shocker, I know.
we said they'd be checking the perimeter when they ran into some kind of resistance, right? because we could just keep it at that or add in the element of them being in a hurry or even change the whole thing up
it would be interesting, and I think Neith is the kind of person to try just to prove to herself that she could, but I also don't feel it's really that necessary. she already has two forms and artem has god knows how many. still, it would be really fun.. is my indecisiveness showing yet??

yeah. exams end after tomorrow for me so i'm mostly free for a while, thankfully
resistance is fine. & the small group's prob by people who can't break wards to save their lives
i'm the same dw! i think about lots of different things and i get frustrated and i eventually would just randomly decide on one or the other artem's official 'animagus form' will be something like a fox- intelligence and adaptability, stuff like that. it would be funny if hufflepuffs end up petting them in the form, lmao

I took my last exam today! I have a presentation on friday to do as well and then that's the last of my assignments for the year.
true, true. gotta admire the fact that they'll try though
lmao oh yeah, I love the idea of hufflepuffs (or anyone else for that matter) petting animagi. especially in this case since foxes and badgers live in such close quarters if neith did end up with one she'd probably get some kind of snake or lizard I think, which is weird since she's more ravenclaw than slytherin but I feel I need something cunning and proud for her

nice! i just have two tomorrow and at midday i'm home free for a good chunk of time.
artem will definitely be amused and exasperated all in one because they absolutely love hogwarts food and what if they miss it oh yeah also the kids
they were most likely in hufflepuff when they went to hogwarts, tbh, and the castle made sure they were given rooms near the kitchens and the hufflepuff commons. they're definitely not an intimidating fox to them, at least- but definitely terrifying when they need to be. but mostly really cuddly because the hufflepuffs pet the best. perhaps an owl or a small spider? a barn owl would be cool because they're silent, and spiders- well, spiders can hide and hear a lot, just like rita skeeter as a beetle.

oo nice! it's always a relief to get out for a while tbh
I think neith will just be on the exasperated end of that scale. she's too tired and busy to deal with everything
hufflepuffs pet the best is both the best and truest thing I've heard all day, just so you know an owl would be interesting, yes, I'm liking this idea a lot c: I may have to roll with it just for the sake of it.

and then it gets boring after a month and i die because all i want is something to focus on for most of the day.
artem has time to appreciate the finer things in life. such as silly people with no magical skill, hogwarts food, and hufflepuffs. and the rest of the kids of course no bias at al l
they seem like the type to give so much care to their house and to the others that favor them. they don't resent the other houses for thinking of them like afterthoughts. or they do, but they push it aside in the name of diplomacy.
alright! i'm not sure if i can start today, but i can certainly start if you want, today / tomorrow.

ahaha, well, they deserve it. #artemforhufflepuffhead2k17
no bias, of course not. no bias at a l l (and even if there was a little bias that would be understandable but there isn't any so that's irrelevant)
meanwhile neith is just stressed and frustrated 24/7 she does not have time for this just do your homework kids and stop complaining that the feast didn't summon enough desserts last night at least you had food
I'm completely out of it today so I probably won't be able to get you a reply/starter either way, just as a heads up

yes. definitely. the kids love her all the same because she's so smart and a great teacher

As a general rule, kelpies did not bow down under some kind of ruler. Some were friendlier than others- the only European kelpie mage, Artem, was an excellent example- but nonetheless, they did not bend, bow, or serve under someone. It was a deal that Artem had gotten no say in, between their kind and the Dark Lord known as Voldemort, and something that they still seethed about behind closed doors. However, being a teacher to kids did sweeten the deal. They made the day-to-day ordeal worth it and made it something enjoyable, despite harsh punishments from the other teachers if they stepped so much as one foot out of line. Artem's heart wept for them, one of the few teachers that saw no need for any of it- these kids were the future of magical kind, and there was no reason to harm them. As such, the kelpie protected the young ones, and they had an affection for them that many of the other teachers did not experience. Hufflepuff children were the best- they were loyal little things at such a small age, and as their Head of House they were even moreso.
It didn't stop them from taking off points on assignments in Transfiguration, even though they did give pointers on what to fix.
The fact still remained, however, that Artem was bound to the teaching position, despite its perks, and the kelpie was never made for that kind of thing.
Artem looked up at the sound of an owl tapping at their office window and they frowned just a bit- it was the Snowy Owl that Voldemort used to send orders or messages, and it was rare to see anything of the sort at the start of a school year. The day when all the little Wizarding children would arrive at the prestigious school, even. They were in the middle of the train ride there now. "Now, now, what do we have here?" Their voice was a low murmur as they let the owl in and picked up the note, unfolding it as a soft frown grew.
Expecting resistance near Forbidden Forest area of wards. Go quickly. Khata is already on her way.
They sighed and let the owl back out before checking their things- old fashioned coat, distinctly not-wizarding to make most of the other professors and Voldemort disgruntled, check- beech wand and backup wand, check- ah, yes, pocketwatch- check. With that, Artem smiled and paused- and a split second was all it took before a small sparrowhawk was in their place and already darting out of the window, out to get to the ground before shifting into their accepted 'animagus form', a swift fox, and darting to where they were supposed to meet. Quick, from Voldemort, was more like it's happening already and I don't care enough to alert you a while ago even though the students are nearly here, and all Artem wanted to really do was get back, eat, and welcome the new Hufflepuffs.
This was miserable.

Neith was not made to be a teacher. She was supposed to be a student and she reflected upon this every September first. The closer the Hogwarts Express drew the more she imagined she could hear the squeals of the younger children and the more she wished she could be anywhere but here. She wanted to go back to Egypt and learn more about the history of her kind. She wanted to go to South America and Castelbruxo to learn more about exotic woods and wands crafted from them. More than anything, she yearned to travel the world for more than just for a few months over the summer.
One thing made it worth it. The Ravenclaws. They were just like her when they sat in her classroom, wide-eyed and curious. They kept her on their toes. And they demanded answers, something she adored them for. Every time one of them asked her for help in their research or, better yet, asked a question she did not yet know the answer to, she felt her roots dig a little deeper here. She would do anything to ensure that the students placed under her care would have someone to ask any question they wanted an answer to. If that meant putting up with being cooped up in the same old castle in Scotland for most of the year, so be it.
But for just one night a year, she hated it. She really did. She'd been grumbling her frustration in Arabic all afternoon, not even pausing when Professor Maynie came in to drop off some potion ingredients. So when the Dark Lord's owl came with a note, she didn't complain. She could use the distraction.
Wards need reinforcing near Dark Forest border. Figura will meet you there. Expect resistance.
This was how she found herself throwing herself from her window in the teacher's tower, no longer human but owl. Her wings, despite their unfamiliarity, carried her easily and swiftly through the air and up, up, over the branches of the Dark Forest. Only when they began to grow truly thick did she dive, landing on the ground once more on long legs. "Lumos," she murmured as she started making her way towards the border, her cloak trailing behind her. The dim light radiating from her wand compensated for the closed canopy above her and with it to guide her, it wasn't long before she reached her destination.
For the moment, everything was peaceful. Whatever resistance was ruining her chance at the feast was either being hindered by some other trap set by the Dark Lord and his allies or had simply not arrived. She doubted the latter and was certain of the former. They were persistent but most of the truly capable had been killed in the war. Those who stormed the castle, or tried at least, did so predictably and with none of the finesse it would take to claim the Dark Lord's stronghold. She almost pitied them.
It was then that she saw them. Clad in bright reds and yellows as if it were all they wanted to be spotted from a distance, they marched towards the wards with a purpose she would have admired were it not so misplaced. She watched them approach raising her wand. "Hilaya." And then magic was streaming from her wand and towards the wards. It would not last forever, but it would last long enough for Figura to reach her, if he might hurry up a little.
( I figure some of their spells will be those we're used to and others being different either because they're dark spells that weren't explored or from a different part of the world. Neith's will probably be inspired by arabic a lot, for example, especially the more basic spells since Egypt and northern africa is where she started her magical studies. I wasn't 100% sure if we'd talked about that or not but I went ahead and included it here anyway because why not
also I'm so far from proud of this, starters were never my strong suit, but whatever. hopefully that won't last forever. )

Hurrying in their fox form, Artem could already smell the signs of magic ahead. It seemed like Khata was strengthening the wards- a project that was still being done over the summer from its slight weakness now (mostly because of mindless wizards trying to do 'good', they knew), slowly strengthening from Voldemort's additions to the wardstones around and inside the school. Even with Khata as a capable witch, it was obvious why Artem had been asked to help as well, and they let out a bark of laughter at the thought even as they hurried. Wandless spells in Artem's different forms were as difficult as they were in their human form- that was to say, relatively easy, and with a burst of speed given by a spell and a notice-me-not strong enough for the intruders to slip their eyes over them and for Khata to still recognize them, they sped off to join her.
Slipping past the wards in fox form, the kelpie snickered in amusement as they tripped an incoming Light wizard. They only thought they were a rock- a rock! Artem slipped back into a human form when they were behind the force, and sending a small signal to Khata from behind them, the practiced mage started sending spell after spell at the force after the notice-me-not dissolved.
Long, long ago, their first magical school had been Hogwarts. It had a special place in their heart, although it wasn't their favorite. The kelpie had found most of their home in Uagadou, where one of the other two kelpie mages alive was teaching. So much had been learned from them- casting in any form, which most wizards found near impossible, transfiguration, herbology, secrets passed down from mage to mage throughout the many, many years. It was that knowledge that Artem drew from, laughing as witch after wizard after witch was struck down, either from non-lethal blows or transfiguring them into harmless objects that would only stop at their whim.
So drawn into the chaos, they didn't notice the time until after all of the force was rounded up and transported by house elves into the holding cells of the castle. Exhilarated, they opened their pocketwatch to check the time before-
"The kids are almost at the castle! They're in the boats and carriages now!" Artem sounded halfway between panic and frustration, running a hand along their long hair and turning to Khata. "And we can't apparate into the school!" Cursing in various languages under their breath, Artem started to book it back to the school, taking a running step while shifting into their fox form. And of course she'd be able to get back faster, she's an owl animagus, they thought sourly, stomach growling even as they pelted along the edge of the forest.
They ended up entering the Great Hall as the older students were filing in to wait for the first years, waving to their Hufflepuffs with a bright but slightly annoyed grin before sitting down next to Khata. "Of course he sends us at that time," they grumbled, staring at the empty plate in front of them as if the sorting could happen in a split second and then food would be on it. "Not stopping the problem a few hours back, no, it has to be right when the kids are getting here." Artem looked so done with life- and they were, too, really. Definitely.
Not really, though, since the kids and food were great and Artem's fellow Uagadou kelpie mage would be visiting around Yuletide when the kids went home or stayed at the school over the break. It would be annoying to explain to him- one who flaunted their heritage- to keep their heritage secret, but hopefully that could be accomplished, or else the school they had been working at for a few years already would look at them strangely except for the Hufflepuffs and a Ravenclaw or two.
"Come on, kids," he sighed. "I need food. I'm starving."
(( definitely. artem'll have a mix from many countries, thanks to their travelling, but their dominant languages are a mix of western and eastern european languages. & dw, it's fine ))

Neith watched as Figura darted past her, her amusement growing as the group of intruders was struck down with incredible finesse. It was rather impressive, she thought to herself, perhaps she'd ask them just how they did it sometime. She certainly needed help with her own non-verbal casting. As she pondered this, spells continued to pour from her mouth and wand alike. Most of them served nearly the same purpose but they were said in a huge variety of both languages and dialects, both of which would have an effect on how the magic presented itself. This was where her strength lay, in versatility and the details.
She returned the signal as they passed but didn't let up in her spellcasting, leaving Figura to clean up the force. They didn't need her help and she knew why the Dark Lord had sent her down here. The wards were weak and she was supposed to strengthen them. She didn't have as much time to spend on them as she'd like and she was barely covering any ground, but the least she could do was be thorough, even if it was just a fraction of what needed to be done.
"Oh, don't remind me," she replied, sounding equally frustrated but for an entirely different reason. "This was more fun than I've had in a long time." Unfortunately, she was needed in the Great Hall. A head of house did not skip the feast. She wished it was a possibility.
Without another word, she leapt up, an owl before she even began to fall back to the ground. She didn't like this form much. In fact, she'd gone as far as to curse her luck when, after a long month of silence devoted solely to this, she'd found herself able to transform into something feathered and winged, not furry and quadruped. She missed her paws immensely. Still, she had to admit that it was practical. It was mere minutes before she sailed into the Great Hall, landing on its floor once more human. She took her seat beside Professor Hazel, nodding a greeting but feeling a little too surly to say much.
Only a few minutes later the students began filing in, finding their seats while chattering loudly among themselves. Figura arrived at around the same time, his fox form - which Neith still envied him for - slowing him down."You know that problems aren't problems until they're a threat around here," she replied as they sat down, not looking up from her fingers or the rings she fiddled with. "You made it in time for the first years, at least. You aren't excited to meet all the little baby Hufflepuffs that will be racing around the halls by noon tomorrow? Or are you just frustrated because they haven't fed you yet?" She sounded good-natured enough, if a little curt, but that had little do with Figura themselves and more to do with the lack of sorting happening.
Her first magic school, a tiny academy in central Congo, had not been her home for very long. She'd become an animagus there and became highly proficient in alchemy, but she hadn't stayed long. She didn't miss it much. What she did miss was how straightforward everything was there. No houses, no sorting. Far less time gone to waste over simple formalities. That she would never stop missing.
