Lykos blinked her eyes open as she tried to recollect what had happened that she'd ended up on the floor. There hadn't been any fight, her angels hadn't alarmed her to any sort of trouble. Looking around, she didn't recognize this as her domain. Tall wheat crop on all sides of her, and her home of stars far above out of reach. She hadn't assumed this form willingly. Not that she could remember anyway. Where was this? And why was she on the ground.
She sat up, moving slowly to gauge if she'd been injured. No... everything seemed fine. No soreness or bruising. She hadn't fallen or been thrown out. So why was she in this form, and why wasn't she able to see through the night as easily? She should have been able to ignore the lack of light and proceed as normal, but now for the first time she experienced the true shroud that night brought. Instead of feeling protected and concealed by the shadows, she felt engulfed. She needed to find her way home. Finally, standing on her own two feet, she turned her gaze toward the only light near her, the soft glow of a village at the edge of the crop field. Perhaps she could find some answers there?
---
Ira had only just reached the village after leaving his forest later in the day. He'd meant to go earlier, but a large influx of strangers traveling through his usual paths had sent him to hide until they'd left. He followed the road, eyes watching his feet with a woven basket of produce tucked under one arm. He was tired after the walk like he always was, but it being nighttime left him wishing for a fair-sized tree to nest in for the night. There didn't seem to be any usable trees in town, so that left him needing to hand over the coin for an inn room. He wasn't sure he'd have enough. He hadn't actually sold any vegetables or fruit yet, so he was left with the few coins he had leftover from his last visit. He didn't spend a lot of time in town, and he usually made his own necessities from his surroundings, so the idea of currency was still foreign. All he knew was that people were always willing to hand him a few copper coins when he offered them a head of cabbage or apple. He wasn't sure that the copper he had was actually worth an inn's stay.

Eira sheathed her sword, gave a polite nod to the person who she had been sparring against before she turned on her heel and walked away, leaving the poor guy to nurse his wounded pride. Well that was boring. She inwardly sighed and strode over to where her pack was before picking it up. While she could just ask the local blacksmith if she could stay at the forgery, she preferred to be like everyone else and just pay for an inn room, it wasn't like she was out of money anyway, turning in criminals tended to keep her from being poor, something she usually didn't tell anyone. Shouldering her pack slightly, Eira made her way to the inn, her blue eyes withdrawn and rather reserved with her dark hair pulled up in a ponytail with a thin strip of leather to keep it out of her face. The sapphire on the pommel of her sword gleamed in the lessening moonlight, and the light refracted off of the thin barely noticeable gems that rimmed her sword's scabbard.

Lykos headed toward the lights, one stepping carefully to avoid getting her feet tangled in any fallen stalks. There wasn't really much to hold to for guidance except to keep moving toward the village. It had been many years since she'd been down to the mortal plane, and it had changed greatly. As she grew closer, she could see the houses were built of wood and stone, but she remembered days when mortals slapped together clay and mud and that could keep one person out of the rain. She'd enjoyed watching their progress, but she wasn't just watching anymore.
At last, she reached the edge of where the night was washed out by the lights in the village. She was able to walk out of the field and be in the town in just a few footsteps, but she hesitated. It had been a long time since a deity had directly contacted a mortal who wasn't their champion, and she hadn't needed a champion in centuries. She hadn't actually interacted with mortals. Yes, she heard their secrets and pleas for secrecy, or for a safe journey through the night. But she never answered verbally. With magic, or a guiding gesture, maybe, but never out loud.
Speaking of prayer... it was awfully quiet right now...

Ira took the coins he had left and counted over them in his hand a few times to make sure he hadn't miscounted. He'd have to see what other people were handing over the counter for their stay. He kept the coins in his hand and walked toward the building, walking in and taking a seat at one of the tavern tables. He waited, watching the counter and hoping someone would request a room. He wasn't sure if he'd be able to see the exchange from here, but maybe the keeper would say outloud what the cost was?

Out of the corner of her eye Eira noticed a nymph sitting at one of the tavern tables and she quickly noticed how nervous he happened to look from her current position. What's up with him? she silently wondered as she approached the inn keeper. Without saying a word, she gestured silently to the inn rooms with a questioning raised eyebrow and her arms crossed over her chest. (do you want to be the innkeeper?)

(Sure, sorry, I got called away from the computer)
"Fifty copper a bed. Meals are twenty-five." The innkeeper replied quietly, reaching under the table for a key to one of the available rooms.
Fifty? Ira gave a small sigh, unsure how he was supposed to come up with fifty coins. He only had twelve in his hand. Even if he'd misheard and it was fifteen coins he couldn't afford it. He'd have to wait until tomorrow to sell anything... Perhaps he could just sit out the night here at the table? But surely he'd be shoo'd out when the keeper wanted to close down the dining area? He'd just have to wait and see.
--
Lykos took a second to collect her thoughts. She had to be able to go forward and find answers or she'd be stuck in this form on this plane with what seemed like no power to speak of. It was unfitting of a deity. She began to walk forward again, entering the town as the last of the citizens began to retreat into their homes for the night. She could hear locks clicking as storeowners locked up for the night. It would be unlikely that she would find help at this time. She'd have to wait until morning, but she couldn't' afford to just bide her time. She needed to find the church of this town and figure out who the patron deity was. Surely their priests could help, or they might let her use the alter to try to contact someone for help.

Eira nodded to the innkeeper and pulled out eight silver coins which would work for seventy five copper, she didn't really have copper coins on her at the moment so the silver would have to do. She was about to hand the silver over when she heard Ira's sigh from behind them and hesitated, she recognized that sigh, it was the sound she heard every other day of the year when people didn't have enough money to stay in the inn. With an inward cursing of she weakness, she pulled a sheathed silver dagger from her pack and slid it across to the innkeeper with the original amount of silver as extra payment. "Worth fifteen silver, solid silver blade," she said quietly, "give the nymph over there a room too."

(I"m doing laundry so I might be slow ) The innkeeper followed her gaze to the nymph at the table and nodded, taking out a key to her room and the nymph's. "Take him the key, would you?" He asked, passing them over with the copper coins that made the left over change. "Kitchen opens at sunrise, closes about an hour after dark. Anything I can get you before we close it down?" He offered. Ira heard their conversation and ducked his head a bit to avoid looking like he'd been listening to them. He always heard that humans didn't really care for eavesdroppers, and even if they weren't discussing secrets they hated intrusions. Well, to be honest, the woman didn't look perfectly human, but he couldn't place the rest of her ancestry. He just kept quiet for now, unsure how to repay the stranger for her generosity.

(it's okay, I'm actually in class and I'm working on a layout for someone so my replies will be slow too) Eira shook her head as she took both keys and the copper coins, "Not for me no, maybe for the nymph though. I'll ask him when I'm over there." She tucked her key into a small pocket in her pack before slinging it back over her shoulder and quietly walking over to Ira, her footsteps soft and light. She put the key down down on the table along with the extra copper coins, "here." She said quietly, her voice slightly tense and flat.

Ira looked at the stranger's offering before dipping his head to her. "Thank you, miss, but you really didn't have to." He said slowly, trying to make sure he picked his words correctly. Her gear and appearance led him to think she might be a mercenary, and even a generous mercenary was not someone to insult. "Can I repay you?" He offered, showing her the basket of vegetables he had tucked under his arm. He wasn't really sure what the value of the food items were, but it seemed like the proper gesture to make.

"There's no need to repay me," Eira replied smoothly, her blue eyes calm and rather indifferent. "Just be careful around here, someone may stir up some trouble with the lost sparring matches. A few bandits reside here as well, so be careful."
