From the Desk of Det. Marshall:
05.02.2017 The babies arrive in two hours. What was I thinking offering to oversee a team of rookies? Ones who haven't even graduated college, at that. The chief expects great things from these kids, but I expect nothing more than a headache. Fingers crossed for a peaceful summer. No murders. No thefts. No missing persons. Just paperwork and filing documents. Because that's how a detective's life works, right? You're typical office 9-to-5.

its always fun to learn the ropes. though what sorta ropes does one learn when out of school? besides the actual real crimes aspect, i would hope a rookie detective knows what button to press on the taser.

hey there. I'd be willing to pitch in some ideas, if you're still accepting help.
a possible way to back up your idea could be that this group is composed of mostly interns? whether or not they're still in or fresh out of university, internships are great for resumes, and great for businesses because they don't have to pay them much/at all. they're pretty competitive because of that, so, naturally the people to win the few offered spots would be the best and brightest of the applicant pool.

This sounds cool x I think they shouldn't know eachother so they can establish an organic group dynamic, but that's just my opinion.
Are they all going to have specific roles in a team?

i agree. this type of role play would benefit most from us developing the characters' dynamic more naturally. so, we'll go with the start of their internships before they've really gotten to know each other.
yes, i like the idea of each having been chosen for some specific talent or quality that they possess. while roles can occasionally overlap, i think it would be interesting to have certain people contributing something special to the team.
that said, did anyone have any suggestions for roles? i would think that there'd be at least one tech savvy person, maybe two to work as a team, but i'm not sure on the other roles as of yet. when i did this type of thing in the past, it was more along the lines of a stereotypical spy setup with a leader type, a tech person, one or two combat-trained types, someone good with disguises and working people, and that kind of thing. but i don't know if it be better to go with something more like language proficiency, the ability to read people (perhaps a psychological/sociological specialty of some sort), etc.
let me know if this doesn't make sense. i'm not always great at articulating my thoughts. lol

Maybe we can pick a few from these roles:
- a marksman/markswoman - a techie - a psychologist - a linguist - someone in forensics or research - close-range fighter(s) - undercover specialist

you can also have each character have a mentor or the group having a mentor. like that gives them advice and tells them no such.
