A series of riots happened. No-one is sure what caused them. People just...started wandering into the streets, blocking up the roads. They smelled real bad. When confronted, they attacked the officers. Then the officers started feeling lethargic - and then they died. It seems like some sort of infection, though even the doctors in the area are baffled.
This morning, one of our officers was pronounced dead at the scene of one of the larger riots. At lunch, he was walking. I thought that nothing was wrong, said hello. Didn't know that he was supposed to be dead. That was, of course, my first mistake. I shouldn't have approached him. He bit me, nearly tore my arm off - if there hadn't been other men there, I might've died.
I think I am dying.
I feel strange. If this is my last note, then please know this: if I'm walking, then I'm not me. Please don't approach me. Be safe.

No-one really knew that the end of the world would happen. It was something that would happen in the far future, it would be something that would be dealt by future generations. It was nothing to worry about. No-one had to think about it.
It didn't happen all at once - in fact, it's only recently that things have gotten...worse. Life continued as normal for the first week or so; people died and came back to life, and then more people died because of the...recently deceased. First, kids started calling them zombies. Then they became walkers, because that's just what they did. They walked. In hoards, too - they could take down entire cities, if they were unprepared. After that, it was only a matter of time before the world crumbled and more people died. People struggled for survival, made little communities - but these communities became hardened by their losses, and soon enough, they barricaded themselves in and hoarded necessary supplies. It became harder to survive. Just like that, society was over.
We don't know if it happened in other countries, but frankly, it's safe to assume that it did. An outbreak like this doesn't just come from nowhere. Too bad that no-one knows what started it, huh? It's not as if anyone can just get scientists on the case, it's a matter of moving and never looking back, trying to remain alive and to not become one of them. It's not really living, but it's survival, and that's the closest we'll get to it. For now.
first: about the roleplay
It's safe to assume that this roleplay is somewhat based from The Walking Dead. It is! But since I've only played the games, that's what it's inspired by, more than anything. I guess they're all the same - but yeah. You do not need to have seen/read/played anything from TWD, since it's a fairly basic concept.
This will be a small group roleplay; a maximum of five people. You can have as many characters as you'd like, but be aware that the more you make, the more you'll end up having to kill off. It's about survival, and a huge group will not survive. Walking into this, you should be prepared and willing to kill off characters as needed or as plot has it. Don't worry, though. If you only have one or two, I'm not gonna force you to kill them off. You can have as many as you handle, and then...yep, we go from there.
I would enjoy it if you were semi-active (maybe a couple of times a week to try and keep the roleplay going), and semi-advanced; being able to give people responses they can actually respond to, rather than just "he sighed" or a huge prose-y post about nothing in particular. In this roleplay, character interactions and decisions will be vital. How people react to each-other, the conflicts; that's all a huge part, and it could completely change the outcome. Y'feel?
Basic rules apply, I won't bore you with them. The gist of it is "your character ain't a flawless doll" and "realism is appreciated". Basically. Yeah, I know, walkers aren't realistic - but hey. That's just how things go. Gotta have a degree of realism.
second: how to join
To join is fairly simple; write your character. I know. Super simple, right? It would be super nice if you could follow the format below;
name | age | gender | original occupation
physical description. as long or short as you want, maybe just over three lines would be steady enough, to get a good insight.
equipment/weapons & supplies | relationships | current method of transportation
current group (if any)
finally: the characters
Jaime Ruiz | 48 years | male | Shopkeeper
A tall, long-legged man, Jaime has firm muscle and a sturdy physique. He stands at a steady 6'2'', tends to tower over other people, and is generally seen as stern with dark brown eyes, a long nose and a sharp scar over his left cheekbone. His hair is cropped, black in colour, and he has flecks of grey within it due to stress (and partially age). His face is lined with both laughter lines and general stress lines, and his skin is a lighter shade of brown; darker from being outside so often nowadays. His blue jeans and flannel shirt might not look like much, but they certainly help him, and his sturdy boots are definitely made for walking. He's somewhat of an intimidating man, but he is as genuine as they come with his smile. Bushy eyebrows complete the look, and he is often rather relaxed-looking.
dried and canned foods, enough for his group, water, and he has two small pistols | Father of Ange Ruiz, a widower | He has a small, working camper van
grouped with Ange Ruiz and Aleks Wesninski, they have no formal name
Ange Ruiz | 20 years | female | Pre med-student, part-time barista
It's quite clear that she doesn't take after her father, with skin just a shade too dark to be tan, and sharp green eyes. Her tousled hair falls to the middle of her back and is pulled into a fishtail braid, bleached white-silver - though dark roots show now, and her bangs fall either side of her face as well as sweeping over her forehead. Freckles dot over her small nose and she has a smaller, slender stature, standing at just 5'1'. Not quite the most impressive, but she is lean-muscled and her legs are strong. She wears black leggings and knee-high brown boots that are sturdy, and a black sweater that falls to her knees, with a leather jacket over that. Her ears are both lined with piercings, small black hoops with three studs in the lobe, and an industrial bar in the left.
shares equipment with Jaime (plus her handy medical kit), carries a screwdriver and a knife with her - also, a baseball bat | Daughter of Jaime Ruiz | Travels with Jaime
grouped with Jaime Ruiz and Aleks Wesninski, they have no formal name
Aleks Wesninski | 28 years | male | In prison, former police officer
Well-worn. Sharp-eyed. Aleks is a Polish man who does not listen to anyone, and his appearance suggests that. He's pale skinned and stands at 5'9'', so while he may not have the tallest stature, he is an intimidating person. He has sharp features and keen brown eyes, and dirty blond hair that is pulled into a small ponytail at the base of his neck, simply because he doesn't care enough to cut it. A rather nasty scar cuts over his lower lip, and he wears part of his old police uniform - simply because it's easy to move in. He doesn't wear the badges - who does that in an apocalypse? Nah. His sleeves are torn, baring his arms, and he has a waterproof jacket for any bad weather. Flecks of dried blood still settle on his cheek, probably more recent than the dryness suggests.
shares equipment with Jaime, owns and works a shotgun when he needs it, otherwise uses a serrated knife | His family are gone | Travels with Jaime
grouped with Jaime and Ange Ruiz, they have no formal name
Vinnie Nazari | 17 years | agender | Student
Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed is a way to describe Vinnie, though something about them seems weary. They're small, at 5'2'', slightly underweight with muscle to keep them going. Their skin is a medium-toned brown, their hair a dark brown-black with reddish hues here and there, in an undercut. They wear a thin black plastic headband to keep their hair from their face, and their eyes are a light blue; a contrast against the rest of them. They wear torn skinny jeans, a long-sleeved shirt that was probably once a light shade of white but is now darker, and a red scarf. They refuse to take this off, it's clear that it's important to them. Converse are not ideal to walk for long periods of time in, but it's all they have and so they wear them. A pale pink scar slices up his inner left forearm in a jagged pattern. They clearly took care of this themselves, because it looks as if the stitching was originally done in a rushed way. There's a strange branded mark on the back of their neck, but it's usually covered by their scarf.
a small amount of food and water in a duffel bag, two butterfly knives and a hunting knife, plus a flashlight | His family are/were in Egypt | walking
solo-traveling for a short time after thrown out by a larger group
