introduction. let me get right to the chase here--I've always loved small group settings, and slice of life themed roleplays, so, what's better than a small group roommate roleplay? and, what's even better than that? one where the characters are mostly/exclusively lgbt+.
I will admit, I was inspired by the Showtime (adorable rom-com which I highly recommend. there's a lot of mature scenes, though, so there's your warning. don't get mad at me pls) Queer as Folk. the basic dynamics are just so fun and funny and quirky and supportive, and all I could think of was how cute a roleplay could be with those themes at the center.
so! would anyone be interested in joining this and working out some of the details with me? I'd love as much help as I could get.
information. age range: preferably young adult, but late college can work too spots available: between four and five. haven't decided yet.
details. location: tba personas/roles to fill: tba ???

hey everyone. I haven't really felt up to dealing with people / working on this roleplay as of late, but I'm feeling a little bit better about it now. guess I'm ready to give it all my effort now!
anyway--this did attract a few more people than I intended for it to. the original number for this was between four or five, so.. I guess the only fair way to settle this is to award spots to the first people that joined. that includes @wildmask, lozi, robin, and Salted Squid. sorry to the rest of you! I just don't enjoy running super large roleplays, since I get pretty overwhelmed with a lot of people. sorry, again.
now, for the rest of you.. I think the only major things we need to determine are setting/location, forms, and characters. maybe even cliques/sort of superlatives for them to fill as well? any suggestions are welcome!

For starters, how many total characters are we aiming for?

that's a good start on a reference! I'll probably make it formatted a little fancier, but I'd definitely like to have that depth of analysis/character development. also, I'm thinking about having them be just out of college, sort of dealing with finding work and that sort of thing.
and I was thinking one character per person. my idea was that these guys were all going to share an actual house/condo, so there's a cap on how many rooms there could be related to how expensive their rent is.
edit: we also have to decide where the setting is. my idea is that they'd all be in a big city, something like Los Angeles or New York, maybe even Boston or Philly or Seattle. any other suggestions/comments? NYC can be a bit cliche but there's so much to do there. (also any housing is rly expensive)

NYC may be cliche, but I feel like it makes sense. The rent is expensive, so they're splitting to make it cheaper. They're fresh out of college, so they've gone to the biggest city in America to find all the sorts of places and jobs they can. Big city, big opportunities.

Yeah, I like the idea of NYC tbh. There's a reason why it's cliche xD

NYC is definitely a cliche, but I agree there is a reason for it xD NYC or Seattle are my votes.

hi everyone, sorry for my absence! I was on a camping trip.
alright, so location's been determined as New York City, then! I'll make a note of that in the first post. realistically, though, since these characters are most likely going to be young adults (with maybe a late college student or two mixed in), it'd have to be in a not-so-glamorous area. but, hey, it adds drama and character to the ol' place, am I right?
anyway--so that's out of the way. now we need to establish some kind of dynamic, like roles to fill? I've come up with a few, but I dunno if I like all of 'em. input/comments would be much appreciated. "the mom": the most responsible member of the group. can be a bit overbearing at times, but it's all done out of love. "the wild child" (claimed btw): the most irresponsible group member. always has a lot of fun but rarely considers consequences. "the queen": over-the-top fun and flamboyant, with the most impeccable fashion sense and best dating advice in the group. "the normie": might come off as completely straight, but that's okay! they're just.. not as much into the party scene. ???: help

I could recommend the last slot to be an athlete or something. I was considering making my character athletic and really into exercise.

I like the roles a lot, though I can't decide whether I want the Mom or the Normie lol
Edit: I think I'll take the Mom; I have a character in mind for that role cx

There's one of my charaters that I wanted to use, he's kind of really edgy. If not that, you can your stereotypical egotistical guy, very flirty, handsome, etc. I like Wildmask's idea of an athlete.

I'm so excited for this. What else do we need to discuss??

Post by lozi on May 31, 2017 19:13:14 GMT -5
@wildmask Salted Squid robin @viridian
We should probably discuss:
→ We need to elaborate setting. What part of New York? City? Suburbs?
→ Do we want a set plot idea, or should we wing it?
→ Do we want an apartment community that shares one floor? Do we want a condo type thing, where there is one big house with multiple bedrooms? Do we want rooms for two people? Rooms for one person? Both?
→ Rules. That's pretty simple.
→ We should elaborate on the 'roles' of the group. Remember, we still need one more. Does everyone want to come up with a role, so they can have a character they're interested in?
Let me know if there is anything else you guys want to plan out.

I vote for the suburbs so they could get like a small townhouse and split that cost. Townhouse sounds so fancy xD but like there are some cheap ones.
Both honestly. Set a vague plot then wing it. If we plan out too much it takes the fun and mystery out of it.
I was looking into real apartments and stuff for rent in NYC to get a real idea of everything. Townhouses are the best way to get 4-5 rooms. There are cheap ones that can be rented, while most apartments have 3 or less rooms for a cheap price so I vote Townhouse.
I agree with the simpleness xD Rules are usually the easiest part I think
I kinda just wanna claim the athlete. I like the idea, but I think we should definitely discuss roles more.

Alright, sounds like a plan. We'll take a 5 room townhouse in the suburbs, with a vague plot, and get to work on rules and roles. Does that sound like some kind of drive-thru order?
