Josephine was so caught up in the moment that she almost didn't register the scene she had walked into. The bitter smell of burnt butter mingled with batter wafted through the air-it seemed that Ari's attempt at a welcome breakfast had failed. Standing not two feet away was someone wielding a knife. Had she gone into the wrong apartment? Blinking a couple times to make sure that she was in fact seeing what she thought she was, Josephine took a step back and put her hands on her hips, obviously amused.
"Who needs an alarm system when we've got you!", Josephine exclaimed with a twinkle in her eye before taking a few steps forward to inspect the kitchen. The source of the unpleasant smell was still smoldering in the stove. Huh, pancakes. It was an honorable try. "Now, I really do appreciate the offer but I had breakfast this morning, sorry", she replied quickly with a curt nod, when the new girl's voice then pierced the awkward silence. Ryan, what a lovely name. "Hello Ryan! Wow what a name", she replied almost breathlessly with a hefty sigh. "Wow, we probably look like a mess don't we?", she added thoughtfully. Frowning, she retraced her steps to the room's entrance and in one swift motion, she reached down to grab her bag and started to walk down into the hallway that led to the apartment's many bedrooms.
She stopped halfway down the hall when another one of her good friends walked brought the door. Almost immediately her dismissive expression transformed into one of joy, with her trademark grin making a reappearance. "Hey Charlie, just in time for Ariella's five star breakfast!", she exclaimed with a chuckle before turning on her heels to finish her journey. Maybe he would redeem the housemate's standing with Ryan. She had yet to meet someone who didn't like him- he just knew what to say at any given time. When she reached the room, she hesitated and turned back forwards the group, "Gimme five minutes, and I will be ready to help anyone!", she exclaimed with a small hop before leaning into the door. She was greeted by the familiar scene of her bed room, everything was just as she had left it, and up until now, the other side of the room was empty. That would be changing very soon. She had to cherish it while she could. Letting out a long sigh, Josephine dropped and bag on the floor and promptly plopped onto the plush duvet on her bed. She could stay right here for the rest of the day, not give a care to the world and just doze off in her imagination. No, that was impossible, she had people to greet, to help, and to remember. It wasn't until now that she given much thought as to who else would be arriving today....

Ariella Faye Harper When the blonde waved off her offering, Ari set the plate back down on the counter and flipped the cooking pancakes. This time she'd be mindful of the cook time. The pretty-mediocre-chef turned back around, folding her arms across her chest as she watched the other two interact. As was to be expected, Jo was her bubbly, friendly self. As irritable as she could be, the darker haired lass hardly ever seemed to tire of her friend's cheerful disposition. While it may not always rub off on her, it truly rarely rubbed her the wrong way. That being said, Ari was ever so curious and confused as to how her friend managed this upbeat and cheery 'tude all the time. Especially after recent events with He Who Shall Not Be Named (While Jo Is In The Room), the college student almost expected the other girl's cheery eyes to dissolve into sad, longing, heartbroken tears. But her friend continued to prove her wrong. Or maybe this was all a mask to hide the heartbreak? Whatever the case, she found Jo to be taking everything rather well considering two years of her life had just gone down the drain.
But to be quite honest, Ari was glad that Jo wasn't some crumpled mess. She absolutely hated emotions. Like, ew, keep those things away from her. She was never good at expressing her own, and other people's had always made her feel uncomfortable. She much prefered to pretend that emotions didn't exist, especially when tears were involved. Like when Jo and Nolan had first broken up, she couldn't handle being near her friend despite how close they were. It really was the presence of tears that made her exceptionally uncomfortable and unable to help the grieving gal. But those days didn't seem last as long as Ariella had expected. And while she was pleased with the lack of liquid flowing from her friend's eyes, she did worry that maybe she was still in pain? Not that she'd be the one to bring it up... No. No. She would not go there unless Jo brought it up herself.
The twenty-one year old scratched the back of her neck, eyes shifting to the pancakes on the griddle in time to see the little bubbles disappear, indicating that they were ready to be removed. She quickly scooped up the flapjacks and tossed them on top of the burnt disks on the plate and turned off the griddle. Best not burn the flat down, especially with the rest of the group arriving that day. She reached to grab one of the freshly made cakes off the stack before she turning back around to face the others, bringing the pancake to her lips as her gaze darted from Jo's retreating form to Charlie who had just appeared.
"You look like you were dragged through hell and back," she returned, pausing in her eating to stick her tongue out at her other friend. "Do you want one or not, a**?" Ari nodded at the stack behind her before finally addressing the newcomer. "Oh, um, sorry. I'm Ariella, but call me Ari. Mojojojo here, is the only loser who still calls me Ariella." She rolled her muddy brown eyes for effect though it was clear that she was quite fond of the gal who had disappeared down the hall.
Unlike Jo, who was clearly the nicer of the two of them, Ari probably wasn't going to offer to help move things. As interested as she was to learn who she'd be living with for the next year, she had no interest in helping them move all their stuff into the apartment. They hadn't been there to help her, so why should she help them, right? Okay, maybe she wasn't that mean. If they asked for help or appeared to need it, perhaps she'd consider it if they didn't seem annoying. But she had other excuses up her sleeve in the case of a new, annoying flatmate asking for help. Things like laundry, grocery shopping despite the pretty well stocked fridge, walking her non-existent dog, finishing homework for the classes that hadn't even started yet. All believable, right? She felt so... Okay, so those may have been stretches, but she really did have to leave eventually. She had practice around 6pm and then had to work the late shift at the bar.
