Rhysand was right in that he wouldn't have been summoned had it not been important, but she didn't know what it was. If anyone knew anything and it had to do with her or her family, they'd done a good job keeping her in the dark. "When it comes to family, I would never lie nor do anything that would put them in harm's way," she said earnestly, looking at her Sire as he turned his gaze to the window. She watched as his gaze shifted to the camera in her lap and then suddenly he was far off into a memory.
He was right that he hadn't told her about the night of her Changing, but she was not sure she wanted to know the details of it. At least, not right now. She was grateful, though, for the change in subject. "Allina is here for neurobiology and psychology. Xander is here for physics, or something like that," she answered. The twins were peculiar in that they were so different from her. Sure the seven-year age difference between them didn't help, but as much as she was artistic, they were more logically and scientifically minded. She loved them all the same and given the chance, she would have gone on and on.
But she wasn't here for talk about her siblings, she was here because of whatever brought Rhys to the campus. "Allina hasn't been paired yet, and for that there is some concern," she admitted. Sure she'd kept her distance from the twins, but that didn't keep her from keeping tabs on them. "Is there anything you can do to make sure she's paired with someone who can keep her out of danger's path?" "I know," Rhysand said after a moment, drumming his fingers on the desk - again. It seemed to be his nervous tick, the small motion that released tension and soothed any anxiety pent up within himself. He listened to Lani's discussion of her siblings quietly, with rapt attention. Lani mentioned Allina's pair, and Rhys paused. "It's possible," he responded. "I could swing it to where Pierre paired her with someone who could keep her safe, but I do not know who to trust in this school." He sighed. So few of his children had remained at the school, considering that once they'd been turned their loyalty had been more or less ensured, and so Pierre had granted them leave of Caligo. Lani was one of the few to stay, and Rhys suspected it was fear that kept her rooted here. "I might be able to get her paired with myself but... Pierre is less than fond of me or you, Lani, and it is likely that such a request would stir concern and suspicion on his part." He studied her expression for a brief moment. "So be it. I will do what I can to ensure Allina's pairing is with someone safe. I doubt that I can get Xander paired with someone trustworthy, though. From my understanding, he's been handed off." He glanced out of the window for a moment, before his expression softened. "I will do what I can to protect your family, Lani. Trust that. They are important to you, and so they are important to me."

Shafer tossed the book he'd been reading to the other end of his bed and got to his feet. He was officially anxious about how uneventful his day had been so far therefore he had to fix it (this is called foreshadowing). With fingers obsessively brushing through his mane and steps bouncy with anticipation, he strolled over to the door with purpose. He hadn't said much of anything to his new roommate since they met but he was about to impulsively give him a taste of what he was going to be living with for the next however many months. The Native tugged the door open and only started talking when he was halfway into the hallway. "Hey, I'm gonna go binge, want anything? They've got bread here. It's crazy; my family never keeps bread in the house because gluten is the worst thing you can apparently put inside yourself. Haven't you noticed how when kids with strict parents are finally in a situation where they can do whatever they want, they go freaking bonkers with it? Like I'm totally about to wreck myself with something I was never allowed to have up until a couple weeks ago and I'm totally aware of it. Y'know. On a psychological level. Anyway I'm leaving now." He didn't leave enough room for a response, just closed the door and forgot that he'd even offered to get the poor guy something in the first place. Can't be embarrassed if you're clueless. Shafer continued to give off that confidently oblivious vibe as he strode out onto the campus. Being away at school was on a whole other plane of existence and he was turning the entire experience into some sort of game. The only thing he had left on his first-month-of-school to-do list was a frivolous romantic conquest of sorts. And with that thought in mind, he made a beeline for the dining hall.

Kane Preston strolled through the halls of the boy's dorm with a dark confidence, an arrogant air exuding from him with each smooth, almost feline step. His sand blonde hair was neatly messy, as if it had deliberately been styled that way - which, of course, it had. Kane was acutely aware of his physical appearance and took great pride in making himself even more noticeable to the outside world, without having to dip into every mortal's mind to ensure they noticed him. He was important; he was Kane Preston. No one was more powerful than he, save perhaps Pierre - and his damnable son, Thane Kingston. Kane's lip curled upwards at the thought of Thane, and he nearly spat on the ground in disgust. The man was a pitiful excuse for a vampire; too damned soft and too damned loving of humans. Thane's opinion on humans was wholly antithetical to Kane's. In Kane's worldview, humans were there for a few reasons; food, breeding, and entertainment. Evolution had equipped vampires with the tools to control humanity and subvert them to their will. It was only a matter of time, Kane knew, until the whole world bowed to the vampires. They were the superiors, after all.
The sting of the cool air drew Kane out of his dark reverie, and he inhaled sharply to clear the taint of Thane Kingston from his mind. A split second decision had him heading for the dining hall, in search of a meal - of sorts, at least. While it was more or less forbidden to feed from another's Chosen, Kane didn't particularly care for the rules, especially considering that Pierre had more or less given him free reign of the school. He hadn't found his own Chosen, as it was. Sinking his teeth into a pretty girl would be a fine start to the day's activities. After that, he would go find his Chosen - or, it seemed, he wouldn't have to. A mane of black hair caught Kane's attention out of the corner of his eye, and he turned reflexively towards the movement. He almost instantly recognized his Chosen, considering that Pierre had shown him Shafer's student ID a few days prior. Instantly, Kane slid his way into the young man's mind, expertly crafting a web of influence to smother the boy's apprehension at being surrounded by vampires. He approached the boy, flashing a wide, bright smile. "Hi, I'm Kane. You're Shafer, right? I'm your mentor. Nice to finally meet you."

There were things Shafer was loving about this place and there were things Shafer was despising about this place. The freedom was utterly intoxicating but the atmosphere in general was a little bit suffocating. Sterile. Like a hospital, but in a bad way. The people were also getting stranger by the day and sometimes Shafer felt out of it for no reason. A background lull that was similar to fatigue but less intense. Just him and the white noise that was the rest of the students roaming around. Little could go wrong when the world was like this. So when that odd feeling crashed over him, ten times as strong as any time before, he couldn't help but fall in love with it. It was a little bit like getting high and he was very alright with it. He turned to face the source of noise, his hand coming up to smooth down his hair in a delayed attempt at insouciance. He gave his own brilliant smile and leaned forward into the interaction, his already unsubtle mannerisms becoming almost painful in blatancy. "Kane? What kind of parent names their kid 'Kane' and doesn't expect them to grow up into some sort of hardcore villain... Wait, is that what's happening here? You gonna be the bad guy, Kane?" His grin faded into a smug smirk. He found his conquest.

Vison stayed close by his Chosen because he was well aware that he wasn't the only one who fed from people he shouldn't. And while in his mind it was perfectly fine for him to go about doing that, it was most certainly not okay for others to do the same to him. Which led him to being particularly possesive and protective over his Chosen, keeping careful tabs on them in case other vampires got an idea they could feed from what belonged to him. Feeling eyes on him, he looked up from the ground and over towards Xander, blinking curiously before offering him a cheerful smile. "This is going to be so fun," he mused,"oh, before I forget....who are you dorming with?"

| Lani | 27 | Vampire |
Once Lani had finished talking about her siblings, she in turn paid careful attention to what Rhys' response, chewing on her lip with anxiety. The answer that Rhysand provided was less than assuring, though she believed him when he said that he would do his best to protect her family. She trusted that, if only based on her Sire bond to him. Lani nodded slowly at the mention of her younger brother. "He's been paired off with...," she paused in thought as she tried to draw up the individual he'd been paired with. "Oh. Vison Weathergast," she finished. She didn't know much about this pureblood vampire, but she hoped that Xander would be safe. It seemed as though even she didn't know about the Bruja recruitment of her younger brother.
"Thank you, Rhysand," she said, looking across the desk to him. It had been over nine years since she'd spoken with her siblings and she wished that she could have done more for them in that time. However, now it looked like whatever she'd gotten herself into, her siblings were destined for the same fate. "Do you think it would be okay to see them? Talk to them?" the young Vampire ventured. She knew that there was a risk in it, but sitting here, talking about her younger brother and sister to Rhys made her miss them more than she remembered missing them; it was an emotion she'd tucked away for her own sake so many years ago.

Xander offered a half smile, as though he'd been caught looking, and shrugged. "I'm not sure. I haven't met him yet." That was the truth, but he wasn't entirely sure that he didn't know his roommate. Bruja had people in different places and it was possible that he'd been set up with another recruit. "Why?" he asked, as though continuing the thought. He'd noticed how closely Vison stayed to him and wondered the reasoning for that; he had a few ideas but didn't want to assume any more than he already had been. "Besides, I'm not sure how much fun Orientation can be," he added, making a face

"Oh, well, hopefully it's not someone too awful," he commented, looking forward. Hopefully not someone who'll take you away from me, Xander was his now, and he intended to keep it that way. "Orientation is kinda boring because the big boss just kinda goes on and on and on, but it's fun because you get to see all the cute guys in one place," he told him happily before looking up at him,"or...girls if you like them too I guess."

"Oh, I hope he's not too awful," Xander answered. There was no guarantee who he'd be placed with, but he was hoping that his luck would change considering who he'd been paired with. However, it was turning out to not be so bad. "Sounds like any normal orientation I've been to," he muttered already feeling bored. "Cute people?" He mused, teasingly, knowing that would probably get Vison riled up. He heaved a sigh, "Maybe it's better not to go to orientation..."

[[ Ahh, that's fun! Gotta love that sibling rivalry xp ]]
"Oh goodness gracious, that sounds completely unbearable. You must have a crazy high tolerance level for guys," Allina said with a small smile. She honestly didn't know that she'd be able to deal with it, but there was some saying about things being different when you're in the situation. "Ah, that's another thing that they do rather consistently," she said with a small chuckle, "Keep talking when we really don't want to listen to them anymore." Being twins, Allina was actually rather close with Xander, but there were some points in time where she needed him to back off because she felt so sequestered with his "protectiveness". She wanted to be her own person, but when she decided to come here and he'd been offered a place as well, Xander followed along. She sighed and glanced around. "Well, if you don't want to be given a tour, would you mind being the tour guide?" she mused. (It was fun, and it’s gonna be like that for the entire series.) Rebecca shrugged as if to say “eh.” She wouldn’t say she had a high tolerance level for guys, but she certainly had been around many of her brother’s friends. She usually solved that problem by staying in her room or near her sisters. It wasn’t a perfect solution, but it was better than having to put up with the guys. “I think I ended up with a low tolerance for stupidity, not a high tolerance for guys,” she said, “especially because neither of them knew when to shut up.” She let out a slight laugh at that. Her brothers had certainly become less stupid over the years, but they still managed to annoy her. Even so, family was extremely important to her, and (maybe unfortunately) that included her brothers. At first, Rebecca wasn’t sure how to answer the question. She was a freshman at the school, but she had two older siblings graduate from Caligo and a third who was in his last year as a student. But why the hell shouldn’t she give a tour? She knew the school well enough to give one. “I wouldn’t mind,” she answered. “It gives me an excuse to stay away from my brother.”

"If he is you can always hang out with me in my dorm," he offered him, a slightly sing song tune in his voice as he made the offer. Vison looked up at him with bright eyes,"yeah! I don't ever really pay attention during orientation, which is why I found out who I was an ambassador for before orientation. Really all I do is just scope out all the new hotties, and some that might be returning," he admitted, shrugging a bit. "It's a really good time to see who's on the menu, if you know what I mean," he winked at him, because he meant it in two ways but he figured Xander would only take it the one way. "Oh? Are you gonna skip out on going then?" He questioned with a tilt of his head,"tsk tsk tsk, never pegged you for being the bad boy type."
