Dude I absolutely adore it. Maybe the sins gang/mafia is far more powerful seeing as they are a full blown gang with underlings and whatnot, and the virtues are just vigilantes? I also think it would be interesting, going into the setting and bringing that into the plot. Maybe due to how the city is large and corrupt, to make a stand - to find a foothold, to survive the sins came about. They took control of a dying city, something falling apart in the hands of a corrupt system - a police department that failed the people and mayors and politicians who don't give a hoot about the civilians but about their own wealth.
Taking advantage of the times, they came to power. Promised a safe haven for those under their wings. Anyone that wasn't one of them? Well, that was where the line was drawn. No safety, no promises. In comes the virtues, they want to protect the people who aren't protected by the sins. They want to restore the balance in a city with no laws, and no reason. They wanted to fix it, but they were willing to cross any line that was ever drawn to do so. They didn't care if it took violence to save the city, they're going to do what has to be done - no matter how extreme the cost, no matter the price.
I love the big corrupt city too. Sets the place for dark times, where people will literally beat others into the ground just to get a scrap to eat. Nobody's friendly. It's a harsh time for everyone who isn't anyone, the nameless die nameless. The rich get richer. The poor are angry, jealous, tired, and despondent. The rich don't care about anyone and will do anything to stay at the top of the food chain. It's dangerous territory.

L’Éᴛʀᴀɴɢᴇʀ - Wow, yeah I'm loving everything you're saying! For first big plot event, I'm thinking something big to spark the war between the two groups. Like the vigilantes have just gotten bolder and they set off a bomb somewhere or done something like that. It should be controversial enough that the cops aren't happy, but they make a stand against the gang and sparks what could turn into an all-out war. By the way, the gang/other group hould probably have names. Should they just be, like, in english and pretty straight and to the point? Or maybe since this is all tied to the church we could do names based on latin? Like sin in Latin is Scelus so we could have something based off that. And then probitas is the closest word I can find to meaning virtue in latin. It's fine it it doesnt fit, but I thought it would be a cool idea. Or we could just go simpler.

Also, since we still need to character plan for the vigilantes... I couldn't find specific animal or color lists, but I tried my best with what colors popped up on Google.
humility Associated with the color purple and the animal.
kindness Associated with the color green and the animal.
abstinence/temperance Associated with the color orange and the animal. A terrible incident in their personal lives involved drugs, and this person has come to view them as evil. They now fights the illegal drug business by finding those using illegal substances and doing whatever it takes to trace them back to the dealers.
chastity Associated with the color white and the animal. Once left vulnerable on the streets themselves, this person has always felt their calling was to free the innocent, especially children, from the hands of those oppressing and manipulating their minds and bodies. They often go undercover and, as they are rather attractive, will fool those they meet easily and make them pay.
patience Associated with the color red and the animal
liberality/charity Associated with the color yellow and the animal. This person is a true "Robin Hood" figure. They are dedicated to making the rich pay for their indulgence and giving the poor have what they need. They will do whatever it takes to steal money from the wealthy.
diligence Associated with the color blue and the animal.

@ blue blood : that sounds fine to me!
@ crescent : we could do regular english names and then there could be "gang" names that are somehow tied to their sin? and if we want to work with latin, i'm currently in latin iii so i could work out all the names?

I love that thought! I'm not sure but we could do something based of the number seven for either, especially the gang. The Septet, The Seven, The Seven Sins (The SS) are just random ideas. I dunno. I don't have a ton of inspiration for them at the moment. And with the vigilantes? I'm really not sure. We could do just a typical name not tied to the thought of being virtuous. Or something based off of them being the "protectors" of the city, like "The Sentinels," "The Keepers," or even "The Cerberi" in reference to the watchdog from mythology, just pluralized. If you guys don't like these I won't feel offended or anything. Just putting things out there! And I took latin for three years so I can help too

They want to take out some of the sins, they want to make them nervous and look over their shoulders. Maybe we can make it bolder. They wanted to kill one of the sins. Not just mess up their operations or anything like that. They wanted drastic, they wanted them dead. Maybe a local meet up of the sins? Maybe a tail on one of the easier to pin capos? Like Sloth, generally with a simple sloppy schedule. Like Wrath, angry and easier to track due to the trail of bodies. The only problem was they failed and it backfired. Rather than making a statement of authority against the capo, the schedule changed. Maybe a meeting that was out of the norm occurred. So when they took action - and it was drastic - they blew a hole into sins operations, killing at least a dozen. But missing their target. And well, let's just say they might be violent, but they're not stupid. Sins understood who that bomb was meant for. The statement was too bold, so rather than being the hunters - the tables have flipped. They're now the hunted. Thus begins a game of cat and mouse, who can win each other in a metaphorical chess match. Who is one step ahead and who falls first becomes a true question. Virtues are plastered all over the news, becoming the scape goat for all that is bad in their society even though they were just trying to do what they believed was right. And dude, I really dig the latin names. Feels classier, snazzier. :')

As for the character ideas, I really like what you're coming up with. Perhaps these could be the others -
Humility; humble, this person is an individual who could easily be a leader, but has always been humble about their talents and always been willing to take orders. they're calm, collected, and very good at keeping order in the group. They're a brilliant tactician and strategist, gathering information from the others to make mostly fool proof plans
Patience; many people associate patience as a kind trait, this individual? not so much of a kind trait as just a means to an end. A survivor, patience has learn that sitting for long hours is a skill. A master of stake outs and sniping, they spend long hours on end waiting for perfect shots
Diligence; the techie of the group, diligent as can be. Nobody has ever seen this individual not tinkering with something, always trying to make the best toys for the group and checking on equipment to make sure everybody will be safe on the field.
Kindness; kindness is a trait hard to master, but this individual is not kind - at least not to bad people. No, kindness received their name from their merciful nature. They're a doctor, but just as the scalpel can heal, it can easily kill and kindness is no different. They take care of the team, whether it be from injuries or threats. It's just what they do.

Lastly, it's completely interesting to have something based off the number seven! It's always had such a calling, maybe the sins could be referred to as "The Septet". But not the gang itself, the capos. They're renown and feared for their skills and their nature, and it's earned them something of a name. Perhaps it might even go back, far back. Maybe during the gang's younger days the seven proved themselves in a job that was nearly impossible. Maybe once upon a time these people played well with each other, but once power filtered into the mix, things got messy. Things got complicated.
I'd like to imagine that they've been close. Once upon a time. However, old friendships became tested alliances, questionable ones.
You know what'd make this spicy? What if they were just like the virtues. They were once a group of vigilantes, but they came to a reasonable conclusion. Change was never coming, what they needed wasn't small statements, what they needed was control. They took over the city to make things better, and in some ways, it did get better. Those who were invited into their circle, into their "family" were protected. They were safe. They were happy. But the equation never filtered in power an the violence that came with it.
Time jaded these people and made them realize that desperate times called for desperate measures. And they were not beyond taking those measures. Maybe it's also an interesting twist on crossing the line. You know every virtue has it's polar opposite, the sin. Maybe it's the revelation when pushed to extremes, that virtue they used to hold in their heart became a sin and their goals - though still honest - became twisted.
As for the names, I really love The Sentinels. Used to have a group in my old rp called the sentinels, has a special place in my heart. For self appointed saviors, I dig the name. I really do. I'd like that name for the virtues.

But the vigilantes aren't done yet, oh no. They're still powerful, though they've gone into hiding. They make their moves carefully, and they lie in wait, winning small battles that eventually will add up. Though smaller and weaker than the gang, they're more organized, more adept and unified together. And so they strike every now and then, avoiding the sins as best they can, though they still have casualties. Another idea I had was for the gang and/or the vigilantes to leave their "mark" when they've killed someone or had some sort of success. So say the gang started this practice, each claiming a symbol for themselves and leaving it places to show their power after taking revenge when someone tries to challenge their authority. But when the rubble from the bomb is cleared, somewhere on the scene a huge symbol is found, a circle containing the seven symbols for the virtues. This is a sort of challenge to the gang, like saying, "two can play this game." And when each victory is had the vigilantes start to do the same. Not sure what you think about that idea, but I know that the seven sins/virtues already have symbols that we could use. It could be left in different ways, and it could get creative (i.e. Blood, graffiti, carved in wood, a slip of paper, etc).

Your character ideas are great! I'm still struggling with thinking up a name for the actual gang itself. Though if we go with your backstory of the gang, which by the way I totally adore, we could have their name be somewhat of an oxymoron. Maybe something positive, something good, something that goes back to their days when they were also vigilantes, when they were the ones helping people. "The Idealists," "The Saviors," "Salvation," "The Angels." (The last one could have double meaning since, you know, Lucifer and his demons were all fallen angels)
Or maybe just something super simple? "The Syndicate," "The Ravagers" "The Posse."Any other suggestions?
And Sentinels sounds good to me!

OOh yeah, I really like that. I really enjoy that "lie in wait" kind of thing. And the marks, jesus those have always been cool. I really like it, kind of iconic, like the batman symbol and what not. Kind of a special signature about how they run the town. You turn around, you find younger gang members tagging the walls. It marks gang turf, it shows what they own. So when the vigilantes start doing that as well, that's when the sins start to feel like they're being challenged. Like this has to end in blood. o3o I like where this is going

Yup, sounds good! Yeah I personally love both names and could go with either. Um, well we could start thinking of what we'd want an intro to look like. Maybe it could be a quick description of the city, from the "god" or the "Satan" figures point of view?
Now that I mention that, will we actually have people RPing the God/Lucifer leaders? Or will they be more background figures influencing the city? Or we could do a mix and not have them be rped until the very end, and then just have Consti/ an active member rp them when needed...
And for the form, I'm thinking each character has the base personality we've created. Then people can add some extra description and the appearance as well as the gander. And one cool thing I've seen rps have is when the forms have a quote from the character that sums them up. Like a bold character's might be, "what are we waiting for? It's now or never!" I'd love to try that.
I was thinking we can have some side characters too, those working in the gang, helping the vigilantes, and just the normal citizens too, maybe even some cops? We could have it be a requirement to create one or two other characters in order to claim a main one. And since we're already controlling the number and gender of the sins/ vigilntes we could have spots like that to fill so we don't get too lopsided. Like we have two characters under each sin, one male and one female or something like that.
Does 3 females four guys sound good for the gang and 4 females 3 guys for the vigilantes sound okay?

Idk about rping leaders? It's a lot of authority and it's hard to tell how the one controlling those characters will shape the story and course of action through that character's decision? I think that should be up to Consti.
I love the quote thing. I always loved having character quotes for the ocs, so are you suggesting premade quotes or? .3.
Also it depends on how many people we will be have join the rp, but that idea sounds good :')
And I like the idea you got on gender ratios, let's wait and see on everyone else's opinion?

Yeah, it would be hard. I feel like either Consti would control those characters if she and the member or even mods if she assigns them could make a pm to discuss the actions of the leaders, since, like you said, anything the did would be a big deal.
Ooh, I dunno. Premodern quotes could be fun and could give some insight into the personalities. But if each person made their own that would let them personalize their charrie. Either way could work. Do you have an opinion?

Yeah! I feel like a the chat to discuss the next actions of the leaders would be good. Consti or a mod(s?) would be good on the leaders.
And I mean the boi I got incoming for pride is just my usual go-to son of a gun for these types of rps, so he's got an arsenal of quotes in the bag. But I don't mind premade, depends on the others on this one! :')

Yup so we just need some opinions those two things. Though I think either way would work just fine. On that subject what about age range? Should we assign ages or an age range for each character or let people pick that out for themselves? Also do any of the characters have family ties? Or nah... maybe that'd be too complicated but idk. Also it'd reduce romantic possibilities. But I also feel like it could add some family drama.
And I guess we'd also need a setting. We've already settled on a big city but we need a name, some landmarks, etc. like should we have a rich sector and a slums area and a working class area with shops? Also is it near a body of water? And do we need a map? Just some things to think about.

Post by L’Éᴛʀᴀɴɢᴇʀ on May 4, 2017 23:17:41 GMT -5
Oh, hmm I don't feel like assigned ages is that cool, maybe we could agree on age ranges? I feel like [ personally ] that the sins would be older, more experienced. And the virtues would be younger, so maybe young adults to early thirties? Idk, that's just my opinion on the scenario.
Also regarding family ties - I don't feel like assigned family ties is good, but if people want to work out relationships or anything PRIOR to roleplay I think that's super tight and would be cool.
And a list of locations would be sick 10/10 agree
Also a doodle of one prideful fox of a man coming your way guys because when I read violet and I put two-in-two with violet and Al, I had to do this drawing xD
