ok so i just posted this video on my channel and im like looking at it again an hour later and i realize the lip synching is super weird in the beginning bit (the last bit is okay i guess).
so if any fellow editors are out there, i wanna know some advice on lip synching. i dont have a fancy editing program because i am too much of a noob to learn a better editor (such as sony vegas pro? or whatever it is called??). so yeah, i only have imovie and i cant do much.

I guess the only thing I could say really (as someone who has to sync up game video with the audio for my channel ALL THE TIME) is to look at the wave lengths and forms of the audio you are trying to sync it up with and sync the opening of the mouth with the beginning rise of the wave length.
The peak is usually the center of the word or phrase that is being said so if you want to sync the mouth movement with the voices then have the mouth start opening at before the peak starts and end after it lowers.
Does that make sense?

The Noble Dragonyes that makes sense >_< in that video, i was just trying to slow down the clips and maybe make some frames (with the mouth closed) longer?

I noticed! You did very good at the end!
An advanced thing to do (which I'm not at yet lol) Is to try to even get the mouth shapes to sync with the words like "L" and "M" sounds but that's hard to sync and even harder to find clips with the shapes needed lol xD

The Noble Dragonaargh yes. it IS hard. i actually tried to "properly" lip sync on this video. i just never realized how fast animation was because in imovie, i can move frame by frame, right? so i TRIED to look for the closed mouth frames <x"DD this other one had some lip sync in it, but its bad (like one part of it looked like lip sync, so i decided to try my luck for another part lol)

I haven't done music videos like that in like 4 years lol and I mostly synced visuals tot he beat of the song and not lipsyning the lyrics lol

felt I should post an example of my work lol.
Uh Spoilers for Doctor Who during the David Tennant Era I guess. Also I made this like 3 or 4 years ago on my old YT account. Spent months syncing everything up to the song lol

The Noble Dragon Y E S i love the 10th doctor (and rose). and i used to do videos where i synced the clips to the beat as well (Those are on my old channel and they are tron legacy videos..yikes how old). so if im gonna get a bit technical here, would you say it's best to just split the mouth moving clip and get small individual frames .-. ??

lol yeah I love DW I haven't kept up with it tho bc I'm not a fan of Moffet and I'm glad he's leaving the show
When you say doing that you mean separating each frame and re ordering into the order needed to make the mouth make proper movements right? The only problem with that is that the heads and bodies of the characters are usually doing something outside of just talking so there might be some weird cuts and jumps as the head is moved like back and forth based on which order the frames are in. You could crop out the frames needed and have the mouth frames needed overlaying the actual movement of the head. (Like how the annoying orange type animation where they put only the human lips on the orange and have them move) if that makes sense. But I don't know if you can do that with Imovie AND it would be really tedious bc you would end up having to export each frame you need as an image and then edit it in a photo editor or something and then re-import it into the project. But you can try it if you are up to it!
