im having surgery on may 9
so have any of y'all heard of diverticulitis if not basically the colon develops sacs (diverticuli, the fact of having diverticuli is diverticulosis) and these sacs get infected and inflamed this can be a major risk of colon perforation anyway i have diverticulosis and in january i got the 'itis and i also perforated
i met with a surgeon this morning and we decided if we want to be proactive and prevent a full perforation that would result in a colostomy and not fun things, it would be best for me to get a resection when it can be controlled
so that's the surgery im having on may 9 — a part of my colon is gonna be removed

Why do I keep clicking on these, I know it's gonna mess me up and I'm even warned
I hope your surgery goes well for you when it happens!

I hope it all goes well. Thankfully youth helps people bounce back from these things.

How much of your colon is getting removed? My husband had 6 inches of colon and 8 inches of small intestines removed, along with 3 major holes sewn back up (he has Crohn's). It's good that you're being proactive about it. Only thing I remember him saying was different since the removal is that his poop is now pretty much all liquid (sorry to be gross). Recovery wasn't too bad, no different than any other surgery recovery, though he did have a temp bag for the beginning of it that one of our cats was absolutely fascinated by. Good luck with the surgery and recovery.

Oh my parents both had that, my mom also needed part of her colon removed (we joke to this day that she now has a semicolon). Good luck with the surgery, hope everything turns out okay!!

good luck, i hope your recovery is smooth!
as a result of being born hecka early i was born with holes in my intestines and so i had a colostomy when i was 3 days old + i don't remember it yikes. i can't imagine having a similar surgery now. i'm glad you were able to catch it before there was a full perforation!

XD the very day she got done with surgery I visited her in the hospital, and I said something like "how's it feel to have a semicolon mom!?" She got sick in the trashcan next to her right after. The Jello didn't agree with her but it certainly makes for a good joke, we laugh whenever it comes up now lol
