Heya everyone! I have been painting watercolour portraits of my friends cats for 3 years now. I finally had enough of paintings (AND enough confidence) to ask a cat-art-cafe (yes, they have both cats and art, what is there not to love) if they would take my art. They accepted, and we started sorting out everything, but then they just stopped replying. My show was suppoused to start yesterday, so now I'm sulking at home with all the pics. FINE, I'll make my OWN art-cafe. With blackjack and hook... I mean warriorfans You probably recognize Lil Bub if you have ever been on the internet. I painted Bub a year ago, posted it on the official Facebookpage, and dreams came true; The owner contacted me, and wanted to buy the painting. I didn't want money, and asked for merch instead, wich I got This was a tattoodesign for a friend of mine. I ended up making another one as well, of her other cat. I would love to tattoo a pic of my own kitty on me, but I'm not cool enough for real tattoos... This lil' rascal eats everything. He has even nibbled on this painting of him, I have been told I'll post more paintings later, if you wish

How... what the- what did you have to sell to get that good at watercolours? Watercolours?

very nice! I adore your style! The life in each one is very realistic. I love watercolours, too.
Out of curiosity, what kind of paper do you use? I have a pad of watercolour paper, but it still seems to warp whenever I actually paint on it, which is quite frustrating. I just wanted to see if anyone else was having this problem or it was just me.

A piece of my dark, dark soul But watercolours are actually quite beginnerfriendly, if you can pay for more "professional" colours like Winsor & Newton. Everything looks better with more vibrant colours, and the cheap stuff everyone uses as kids is mostly plastic with a few drops of real colourpigment in them.

If it's warping, try using a thicker and heavier paper. It usually says something like 150GSM on the frontpage of the pad. I use at least 200GSM, but the best (and most expensive...) are acid-free 300GSM--> watercolourpads. But it's still possible to paint on thinner stuff, just tape it down. Maskingtape all the way around the edges. Let it dry with the maskingtape on too. It might "bubble" a little in the middle if you use a LOT of water, but the paper should at least stay A4-shaped, and not try to do some mobius loop.
These ones are all made on some cheep paper I found in an outletstore. Bianyo 220GSP Watercolorpad. But still works pretty good.
I should add that I don't use ONLY watercolours. The finishing touches are made with watercolourspencils. The kind that you can draw with, and then add water to make it look paint-like. They are so soft it almost looks like paintstrokes, even when I don't add water to them.

And for some more pics: This is a real ol' fancy lady. She's almost 10 years now, and a purebreed Norweigan forestcat. A friend of my mother got this portait of her lady for her 50's birthday (the owners, not the cats...) This cat is Sat*n itself. It's my best friends cat, 16 (?) years old and as mean as they get. Like Tigerclaw-level of madness in this one. It's also the only portrait with a background, because all I had was a very old photograph, where half the cat was hidden (as you clearly can see).
