hey there. as you can see, this is a search thread. my ideas are, for the most part, original, but I'll list out what influenced them under each summary. familiarity with each reference I make isn't vital to understanding the plot, but you'll get "brownie points"
please know that this won't be a first come, first serve setting. I might take only one person, or one for each plot, or none--it all depends on if I deem you compatible. I've got somewhat high standards for roleplay partners, as far as ability is concerned (3+ paragraphs per response, some kind of writing style, good grammar/punctuation), so expect a kind of background check into your past roleplay posts if you decide to apply for one of these plots.
anyway. without further ado, here's what I got.
1. loosely based off the Legend series (Lucy Lu), X-Men (open)
a world set a couple hundred years in the future is on the brink of global war. the natural environment is collapsing, with water levels rising all over the world, risng global temperatures, difficulty growing crops in stripped soil (it takes a lot of work and chemicals to grow anything), and a mostly nonexistent ozone layer to top it all off. because of all this, natural resources such as clean water, lumber, oil, and food are scarce, and the countries with the most maintain fragile trade deals to gain what they lack. tensions are higher than ever, and most of these world powers (the United States, Russia, most of Western Europe, Australia, Canada, China, Japan) have resorted to covert military operations and spying to see what their rivals have planned. at this point, war is inevitable--it's only a matter of who wants to pull the trigger first.
the previously mentioned countries enjoy an abundance of technology, resources, comfort, and safety from the harsh world--but the poor of their countries, and the rest of the world, for that matter, are left to rot (the ratio is 1% very wealthy, 99% very poor, with no real middle class). as the poor working classes are subject to manual labor and extreme working conditions, they are vulnerable to exposure illnesses: solar radiation, as well as toxic waste, causes cancer and illnesses of all kinds. there are few truly healthy poor people left, and most don't survive past fifty or sixty years old. these places are ruled by the bigger countries in a totalitarian police-state sort of manner: no freedom of expression, press, or individuality, really.
however, this exposure doesn't always have negative effects. the very few lucky beneficiaries could develop some remarkable superhuman powers, which range from enhanced speed and strength, flexibility, hearing, element control, telekinesis, empathy, etc. because of their rarity, and the potential they have, these richer governments view these mutants as invaluable commodities to use in their armies. since they're more likely to come from underdeveloped countries, the richer ones have a high bounty on their heads, with great rewards for those who find them/provide information for finding them.
the agenda is simple for possessing these supersoldiers: capture, dehumanize, train, fight. they've been cast to a subhuman standing in society, viewed as labor slaves or animals instead of rational, feeling human beings.
the plot for this can go several different ways. I've got a couple in mind, but feel free to suggest something if you don't like what I've thought of:
1. a mutant experiences some kind of trauma that prevents them from working, so, a progressive-minded therapist offers to help.
2. two mutants forge a bond in their training together, then try to escape together.
3. a soldier has moral difficulty capturing a mutant, and the two develop a strange companionship.
that one's basically the only very developed plot I have. however, I would be willing to discuss and worldbuild on the following films/books:
Lord of the Flies -- Get Out -- The Hunger Games -- Animal Farm -- Stranger Things
I'm also open to original suggestions. keep in mind that I enjoy the following ideas/themes when it comes to dystopian plots: mutation, experimentation, totalitarian governments, nuclear warfare, spying, class separation.
