Many, many years ago Asa-kel walked alone in the barren world, only plants and stones to keep her company, and she was lonely. To ease her loneliness, she gave life to fragments of her own spirit in the form of animals, and for a time this made her happy. She loved her creations, but they could not talk and think as she did, and eventually she grew lonely once again.
She pondered her loneliness for many seasons until she came to a conclusion when she happened upon a baby sparrow which had fallen from its nest. There was little she could do to save it, but before its spirit faded she took it and transformed it into a child. This, Kesuuri, was the first human and the first ancestor. The child grew, and she could think and speak as Asa-kel did, and Asa-kel was happy.
Eventually, Kesuuri grew lonely as well, as the only of her kind, and so to ease this Asa-kel transformed a dying fang cat into a man. This was Daru, the second ancestor. The two fell in love and were married, and Asa-kel made the spirits of fallen animals into their children. Their children grew, and had children of their own, and over time humans spread across the land. Asa-kel walked among them for a time, but found that she could not watch and care for all of them, and so she rose into the sky and spread her many eyes across it so that she could guide all people.
We are the descendants of Kesuuri and Daru, and the creations of Asa-kel the Mother Goddess. We carry the spirits of animals in our bones, and when we die we will return to her. However, we must be careful not to fall to the temptations of the trickster god Jek-durr- greed, envy, bloodlust, arrogance- for if we do he will devour our bones and our spirits will be lost forever. Follow the ways of Asa-kel, provide for your tribe, respect our ancestors, and carefully guard the bones of the dead.
These are the stories and teachings we have passed down for generations, from the parents of our parents of our parents, all the way back to the first ancestors. This tribe has lived and flourished and died by these teachings, as will our children. So long as these teachings live on, so will our spirits, until all creatures have returned to Asa-kel.
Follow all forum rules and ghost rules, which I shouldn't have to list here. Mostly, just use common sense and you'll be fine.
No mary sues/"perfect"characters. Your character is almost never going to be the absolute best in the land at anything. Being very good at some things (not everything), however, is entirely acceptable. Your character will be bad at some things. They will have some flaws. They will lose sometimes. They're human. Similarly, though, please don't make your character so awful that they have no good aspects and are mopey and depressed and annoyingly flawed. Give them some space to develop and improve, but also let them develop and improve. This rule also covers not powerplaying or spotlighting- sometimes your characters will lose a battle, sometimes they won't be the center of attention, sometimes they will be the background character or the sidekick, and that's okay.
As always, keep things pg. So, no excessively graphic violence, language, or other inappropriateness. If you desire any of these things please take it to PM where it is legally out of my control.
Please try to be literate and original. Make your characters and their actions unique and meaningful rather than making them a cookie cutter with nothing personal going for them. Contribute to the plot and roleplay in a meaningful way that is enjoyable for everyone. Use good grammar, spelling, etc. At the same time, please don't write a novel every post. If you try to make things too long and complicated it gets boring and tedious. Find that comfortable middle where it's entertaining for you to write and entertaining for us to read.
Please keep your characters realistic in both appearance and behavior. I shouldn't really have to go into detail with appearance- you know what humans look like. If humans can't have that hair color or eye color or whatever, neither can your character. As for behavior, this one's a bit more of a gray area, but really what I'm saying is don't make your character wildly inconsistent and doing things that don't make sense for that character. For example if your character is aloof and suspicious of others, they're not going to immediately trust and befriend a total stranger, or fall in love after 2 hours. If your character, inversely, is trusting and caring, they're not going to be cruel and suspicious towards someone. People have motives- try to figure out what your character's are and stick with them.
If you are gone for more than two weeks without prior warning, you will be suspended and your characters marked "inactive." If you are gone for two weeks after this, your characters will be entirely removed. If you have any important roles- such as shaman or chief(tess)- then that role will be available for other people to fill. In some situations (such as with the chief[tess]) your character may be considered to have died and the roleplay will go accordingly. The exception to this time limit is if there is a lull in roleplay where no one is really doing anything- in this situation, only time where the roleplay has picked back up a bit will be counted in the two weeks.
I reserve the right to reject or remove people who are not literate enough, who do not contribute well to the roleplay, who are not active, who do not keep in the spirit of the roleplay, or who do not adequately follow the above rules.
OUT-OF-CHARACTER 3-19-2017 This roleplay is created.

The main belief of the tribe is in the Mother Goddess, Asa-kel, who brought life to the world. All animals are her children, and those who are good are made into humans so that they can speak and think. Thus, the tribe believes that all people are inherently good, and those who become evil are influenced by Jek-durr, the trickster god, who is jealous of Asa-kel's creations and thus drives them to destroy each other and themselves. People who are good join Asa-kel when they die, and may sometimes be allowed to visit the living in their true form- their original animal form- to guide them. People who are evil are taken by Jek-durr and their corrupted souls are devoured.
Another thing that the tribe believes is that an creature's spirit resides in its bones. Vultures and other creatures who scavenge on dead bodies are seen as evil and followers of Jek-durr, who tries to collect the bones of Asa-kel's creatures and trap their souls. To prevent a dead tribe member's bones from being stolen, the tribe burns their dead, though they often keep a small piece- a tooth, knuckle, or other small bone- to create a special totem from so that the spirit of the dead tribemate can find their way back to the tribe and help to guide them. The totems carved from these bones, in the shape of the animal spirit of that person, is closely guarded by those who hold them.
Similarly, a totem may sometimes be made from the bones of regular animals. Though the tribe hunts many animals, animal totems are still uncommon, as only one totem can be made from a single animal, and not all animals that the tribe kills get totems. Totems are only made for special occasions, from special animals: for example, the first kill of a hunter, or a strong enemy overcome. These totems are sported with pride by those who have them, as they are symbols of their accomplishments. The tribe believes that in times of need, the totem may be burned or smashed to release the spirit of the animal, which will help them in some way.
Naming - When children are born, the shaman identifies which animal they originally were and names them after that animal in the "spirit language." Essentially, we make up a name for a character and attach a meaning to it. For example, if a character has the spirit of the bear and we make up the word maadua to mean "bear," the character would be named Maadua. In the rare case that there are two people of the same animal alive at once, an adjective will be added to the one born second. So, for example, there is a man named Maadua and then a child is born who also has the spirit of the bear. The child has red hair, and the "spirit word" for red is "ek," so the child is named Maadua-ek. In this situation, the child may be called by their full name, or just the adjective (Ek).
Tattoos - The tribe has found a kind of plant which if made into a paste and left on the skin for two dawns will permanently color that skin (basically, henna but has to stay on longer and is permanent). Thus, tattoos have become very important to the tribe, and mark many important aspects of their life. Their first is given to them at one year old, and is the symbol of their name, in black, on the base of their neck. Their next will show their rank, and all of their tattoos will be the color of their rank. A child decides what they want to become when they are 14, and they receive a thick ring halfway down their forearm. Males will have the tattoo on their left arm, while females have it on their right. Other tattoos include things like marriage (a line under one eye, again left for males and right for females) and number of children (dots next to the line under their eye). When their spouse or child dies, the dot representing them is colored over in black (not white because they have no way to make white tattoos, and it wouldn't cover the other color anyways). Most of their other tattoos will be purely aesthetic, and may demonstrate likes or achievements, but don't necessarily have a formal pattern or meaning. The colors of different roles are as follows: purple (shaman), red (hunter), green (finder), orange (shaper), and blue (tender).
Birth - When a child is born, the first person to see it is supposed to be the tribe shaman, who identifies its animal. However, the shaman tells no one what the animal is or what the child's name is to be yet. The shaman then cleans the baby and paints a white mark on its forehead, which is said to attract Asa-kel's attention and incur her blessing, as white is her representative color. The child is then cared for for three days, and in this time if the white mark remains without coming off it is a sign of good luck, while if it does come off, that is an omen of misfortune for the child. Either way, on the third day if the child is still alive and healthy, they are brought before the entire tribe and their animal and name are announced by the shaman to the entire tribe.
Life Totem - After a child has been given their name tattoo at one year old, the shapers of the tribe begin to work on a stone statuette of the child's animal. No one but the shapers will see this totem for thirteen years, until the child turns 14 and chooses their role in the tribe. When receiving their role tattoos, they are given their life totem, which after 13 years of work is finely carved and covered in simple designs. It is symbolic of the tribe handing the child's fate over to them, as they are now an adult and in control of themselves. In life, this is generally a person's most valuable possession, as it is representative of all they are, and their very soul, for after they receive it they will continue to add to it by carving new designs into as well as staining it with berries or painting it, making it truly unique and reflective of who they are.
Marriage - To propose marriage to another, a person will present their love interest with their life totem as a way of offering them their very spirit. Should the love interest accept the proposal they will gift their own life totem, but if they reject the offer the totem will simply be returned. When a couple is to actually get married, the ceremony takes place at night, always beneath a new moon where the stars- the many eyes of Asa-kel- are clearly visible. The day before the marriage, no one is allowed to visit with those who are to be married except for their immediate kin- that is, parents and siblings. These family members will spend the day painting an intricate symbol on the back of the person's hand; as always, the left hand for males and the right for females. At dusk, a huge fire will be built and the tribe feasts, though still no one is allowed to see the two who are to be married except for their families. The fire will not be fed after it has been built, and only once it has died down to embers- usually around midnight when the sky is darkest and stars brightest- does the couple emerge. They are led by their parents- or eldest living sibling if a parent is not still alive- to the fire, both blindfolded by a white pelt (as white is the color of Asa-kel). There they must clasp their painted hands, and the shaman will connect the lines so that they form a cohesive pattern that flows from one person to the other. Only once the design is complete are the blindfolds removed and the couple allowed to see the finished design.
Death - When a member of the tribe dies, their body is covered in the sacred pelt of a white mastodon, which has been passed down through the generations and is painted with many designs and symbols in many colors. The white and the symbols are meant to ward off Jek-durr, as white is the color of light and Jek-durr can move only in the darkness. This prevents the trickster god from stealing the spirit and the bones of the dead. Then, a funeral pyre is built on the Overlook, the highest point in the area and therefore the closest to Asa-kel. The dead is carried by their closest friends and family, still covered in the white pelt, while the rest of the tribe adorns themselves with white beads, feathers, and flowers. If the person was married, their spouse carries the torch from the fire in camp to the Overlook; if they are not or the spouse is also deceased, their eldest child or- if they do not have children- eldest sibling will carry the torch. They are placed on the pyre and their tribemates will cover them in the white feathers and flowers as the mastodon pelt is removed. Placed with them is their life totem as well. Before the pyre is lit, the shaman will remove a single tooth from the body, which will be used to create their spirit totem. Then, the body is burned. Once there is nothing left but ash, the life totem is removed and placed in the ancestor cave, which contains the life totem of every dead member of the tribe since the tradition began many, many generations ago.
Chief(tess) - the leader of the tribe; a hereditary position passed down from parent to offspring (but not from chief[tess] to spouse). The chief(tess) is guided by the shaman and the elders in the tribe. If the shaman and elders believe that the chief(tess) is no longer fit to rule, they can remove them from power. The shaman is also the one who decides which of the chief(tess)'s children are most fit to take their place once the chief(tess) dies, retires, or is removed from power. The chief(tess) is marked with a black line that extends from just below their bottom lip to just under their chin.
Shaman - the spiritual leader of the tribe, who is chosen at birth by the previous shaman and trained from a young age. The shaman's job is to communicate with the spirits, keep totems, read omens, and guide the tribe along the right path. The shaman is also the keeper of the moral and religious stories of the tribe, as well as all of the spirit runes. Shaman are often chosen due to physical or spiritual abnormalities, mostly non-fatal birth defects and abnormalities (an extra finger or blindness, for example). They may also be chosen due to having a spirit which is designated as sacred or otherwise special, or- even more rarely- having two spirits. Shaman are easily distinguishable by their tattoos, which consist of the many runes and symbols that make up the spirit language. They earn these over the course of their life as they learn these words. The most notable mark of a shaman, however, is the one they earn when the previous shaman dies and they take their place: the tattoo of an eye in the center of their forehead, which represents their awakening and their connection with Asa-kel. The tattoo color of shaman is purple.
Elders - elders are people who have seen 50 winters and are considered to have completed their duty to the tribe. Elders are no longer required to work like the other members of the tribe, and instead continue to help by sharing knowledge and wisdom with the younger generation, and advising the chief(tess) on issues within the tribe. Elders are highly respected, as most people do not live to their 50th winter, and thus elders are considered to be strong, enduring, and wise despite their age. Elders are marked with a single black dot beneath the eye opposite their other facial tattoos (so the elder dot is on the left for females, right for males).
Hunters - hunters are the physically elite in the tribe, being trained to be stealthy and quiet as well as strong. They must be able to quietly stalk and kill small prey such as rabbits or deer, but be equally capable of hunting larger game such as mastodons or bears, and fighting off deadly enemies like wolves. Besides the chief(tess), shaman, and elders, they are probably the most respected group in the tribe, as their role is both extremely important and often quite dangerous. Hunters are predominantly men, but there are women hunters as well. The tattoo color for hunters is red.
Finders - finders are similar to hunters in that they also help provide the tribe with food. Finders are keen-eyed and crafty, able to locate and identify all sorts of edible and medicinal plants in the forest. They are also responsible for gathering other supplies for the tribe, such as stone and wood with which to make tools, and feathers, bones, and other items with which to make jewelry. The most elite finders are also responsible for the dangerous job of gathering tar from Blackwater. Finders are predominantly women, but there are some men who choose to be finders. The tattoo color for finders is green.
Shapers - shapers are the people who create the tools and structures used by the tribe, such as spears, bows, and arrows, as well as clothing, tents and buildings, cooking utensils, and other tools. While all shapers are able to create any of these items, most have a specialty, such as working specifically with wood, stone, or leather, building buildings or making arrowheads, and so on and so forth. Shapers are also responsible for applying tattoos to their tribemates, and therefore must be reasonably artistic as well. Shapers are pretty much equally divided between males and females. The tattoo color for shapers is orange.
Tenders - tenders are the smallest group, with the exception of the shaman, chief, and elders, as it is not necessary to have very many of them. Tenders are responsible for all of the domestic aspects of keeping the tribe running: cooking, tidying up, washing clothes, tending the fire, caring for children, and generally making sure the camp is in order. This job, while simple, is respected as it allows the rest of the tribe to get their own duties done without having to worry about things like maintaining the fire or preparing food. It also allows women to return to their own duties sooner, without having to stay with their children constantly for many, many years. It is also a way for people who are unable to take on other roles- usually due to physical disabilities- to still contribute to the well-being of the tribe. Tenders are almost exclusively female, with it being almost unheard of for males to become a tender. The tattoo color for tenders is blue.
Children - children, obviously, are the young members of the tribe who do not yet have a specific role. A tribe member is considered a "child" until they are fourteen years old. They will then decide which role that they want to take on. Children are for the most part raised by the tenders rather than their biological parents, though their parents are generally still involved in their life. A baby will stay with its mother until it is about a year old, at which time they will gradually begin to separate and at about 1.5 years, the child will be cared for primarily by the tenders, but the parents will still usually visit and bond with their child when they are not busy.

The tribe lives on the shore of a vast lake, which stretches farther than the eye can see to the east. In the northeast, snowcapped mountains can be seen above the horizon, but members of the tribe are forbidden to go there and so all they know of the mountains are stories passed down through the generations. A river flows into the lake in the east, presumably coming from the mountains. This river is wide and rocky, and very cold. During the late spring, salmon make their way up the river to spawn and can be easily caught.
Most of the area immediately around the lake and along the river is made up of thick forest- mostly pines and other evergreens, but with some deciduous trees mixed in as well; primarily maples, aspens, and some oaks and willows. The forest is filled with rabbits, deer, and other small prey, but wolves and bears also venture here on occasion.
To the west and north is open, flat tundra. Mastodons and mammoths, as well as large herds of musk oxen or caribou, can be found on the tundra, though wolves hunt here as well. However, the tribe rarely ventures past the river in the east, and when going onto the tundra never goes so far that the treeline of the forest passes out of sight. The reason for this is that they believe that if a person ventures too far away from the forest they will get lost and be unable to find their way back, as Jek-durr will confuse and trick them into wandering the open tundra forever. The same goes for the lake, and people rarely go far from the shore. Most members of the tribe cannot swim well, and will only wade at most.
There are a few significant landmarks within the tribe's hunting grounds, however. The most important is probably the camp, which sits roughly at the center of the hunting grounds in a man-made clearing where the trees have been cut down.
Just north of camp is the Overlook, which is a hill crested with a stony cliff, which is high enough to see over much of the forest and lake, and is the highest point in the area- thus, this is where the bodies of the dead are brought to be burned, as it is the closest place to Asa-kel. It is also a good place to find stone to use in tools. Beneath the rocky hill that forms the Overlook is a deep cave which is known as the Ancestor Cave. It is here that the life totems of dead tribe members are left after their bodies are burned, and there are hundreds of these stone totems on the ledges and in the cracks of the cave.
Another location is the Grove, which is a shallow, rocky, and eternally foggy hollow near the lake and river where massive sequoia trees grow. A stream breaks off from the river and runs through the Grove, helping to provide the area with fog and the trees with water, as the stream runs over, between, and under many of the roots of the massive trees. Elk like to come here to bed and forage, and even the occasional mastodon or mammoth may walk among the massive trees.
In the northwest, just past the forest and somewhat near the river, is a large area known as the Colorpools or the Geyser Field. The area is slightly raised from the rest of the tundra and is filled with shallow, mineral-filled pools of warm water, which come from the many boiling geysers that occupy the place. It is considered a good place to bathe, as the water is warm and fresh, so long as one is careful not to be too near a geyser when it erupts. It is also good drinking water, as the water is very fresh. The tribe is careful to only drink from the highest pools, and bathe in the lowest. All the pools are connected by shallow streams and waterfalls which flow downhill into a cohesive creek, which runs slightly east to meet with the river.
Finally, one of the most dangerous places in the tribe's hunting grounds is known as Blackwater. Blackwater is an area just a bit northeast of the Overlook, and is a large tar pit about 30 ft. across. It is extremely dangerous, as when a creature gets stuck in the tar there is no way to get them out and they will continue to sink until they disappear completely. The surrounding area is marked by hanging many pelts painted with the brightest colors that the tribe can manage, to warn hunters and finders away before they unknowingly get trapped in Blackwater. The upside to the tar, though, is that it is extremely useful as an adhesive and sealer for tools, clothes, and other items that the tribe makes. As mentioned, the camp sits roughly at the center of the hunting grounds in a man-made clearing where the trees have been cut down. The clearing is fairly large- probably about the size of a football field- and surrounded by a low and rudimentary wall where the trunks of trees have been stacked, mostly to form boundary which keeps children in and large predators such as bears and wolves out.
The camp has three large fires set in a rough triangle in the clearing, and life mostly revolves around these fires. They provide light and heat, and are used to cook, as well as serve as a gathering place for the tribe members. All three fires have three poles around them, which can be used to hold a leather cover about 10 ft. above the fire in case of rain.
Around the fires are many buildings. Most of the camp consists of tents of varying sizes, with very few permanent buildings. The primitive buildings are mostly wooden, made of logs and tar with leather for the roofs. The tents are made with wooden frames covered in leather. For both, the leather is stitched together with narrow leather stripes and tar is spread over the seam to waterproof it.
Most of the tents are used for sleeping, though some are used for storage of weapons and other items. Food, however, is always stored in one of the wooden buildings, which is more secure than the tents. Elders and young children, too, stay in one of the buildings, which is warmer and safer. The shaman also has a hut which is set a bit apart from the others.
The last and largest building is known as the Moot Hall, where private meetings with the shaman, elders, and chief are held. The Moot Hall and the building where the elders and children sleep both have small fires in the center to warm the building and provide light.
The Moot Hall is in the center of the camp, between all three of the fires. The food storage hut is just east of it, on the opposite side of the east fire. The sleeping hut is across the west fire from the Moot Hall, mirroring the food storage. The shaman's hut is south of the Moot Hall, across the southern fire, and there is quite a large clearing around that fire between the Hall, the shaman's hut, and the surrounding tents.

MAGUURAAphelyon || 46 || Male || Mastodon || ཌ || Maguura is a massive man, standing at about 6'3" with a broad build and strong muscles. He has wild long black hair which comes down to about his mid-back, and a massive beard to compliment it, both of which are often braided in places for decoration. His eyes are dark brown in color, appearing almost black, and his skin is dark copper. His hair has become streaked with silver and gray, mostly around the temples, as has parts of his beard. His face is lined, and lately there has been a weakness in his demeanor betraying his age and illness. Maguura's favored outfit is a pair of pants made from brown bear fur, a simple but sturdy pair of boots out of mammoth hide, and a large cloak made from the pelt of a musk ox. As chief he does have a couple other articles of clothing as well, but these are reserved for formal occasions. His tattoos are in red, as he was a hunter before he was chief, with his marriage line and one of the dots representing his children covered with black. He also has a thin black line extending from just below his bottom lip to the bottom of his chin, which shows his rank as chief. He has many other decorative tattoos as well, mostly on his right arm and back. They are mostly animals and reflect his accomplishments as a hunter and, subsequently, chief. || Maguura is a loud and jovial man for the most part, easy to get along with when in a good mood. He cares for his tribemates individually and tries to help them with any sorts of problems they may have. He is fond of telling and hear stories around the campfire, and likes to get to know the others in the tribe individually. Still, he is not always so jolly- when angered, he becomes like a storm, ominous and sometimes destructive, though he would never hurt a member of his tribe who did not deserve it. Even so, such is the change that some say lightning crackles in his beard when he is enraged. He can punish harshly for mistakes, especially if it's stupid or deadly, but once he feels that punishment has been well served, he forgives easily. Though he can at times be stubborn and blinded by his own idealism, he tries to be realistic and logical, and will always listen to the council of the elders and shaman, even if he ultimately decides that they are wrong. || Maguura is a very good hunter and fighter, though due to his size he is better suited to cornering and taking down larger prey- such as bears and mastodons- more directly, as opposed to sneaking up on smaller forest prey such as deer. He is a fantastic tracker, but- again due to his size- sometimes finds it quite difficult to move through dense forests. He has always had relatively poor eyesight, something which has only gotten worse with age, but he has always still managed to function well enough regardless, as his other senses compensate. As of late, his hearing has also begun to get worse, making it more difficult for him to get around with the combination of bad sight and hearing. || Maguura grew up as a normal child within the tribe, though he showed his aptitude as a hunter from an early age and quickly gained respect as a hunter. He married Jeyshi when they were quite young, and Takoda was born a few years later, followed by their first daughter Aesu who died suddenly at about six months old. Maguura was bitter and depressed about this for a long time, growing distant from his tribemates and his wife, but after his mother died he realized that he needed to cherish his loved ones while they were still around and thus reignited his relationship with his wife and son. A while later, his second daughter was born, almost like a second chance after Aesu. When his father died, Maguura was chosen as chief as the only son, though no one would argue that he wasn't a fine choice. He has led the tribe successfully for many years since. || Maguura is in possession of six totems- one from his wife Jeyshi (carved like an otter) and from his first daughter Aesu (a cave lion). The other four are from animals- a fang cat inherited from Maadua, a wolf that he killed single-handedly, a mastodon hunted in a time of starvation, and a vulture he once shot out of the sky. || Wife is Jeyshi, children are Takoda, Aesu, and ?. Father is Maadua; uncle is Kekem. TSUKAAphelyon 27 || Male || Crow || સ || Tsuka is a bit odd-looking, many of his traits almost seeming mismatched. He is rather small and quite unimposing, standing only about 5'7" and with a slender frame. His features are quite delicate for a male, with narrow shoulders, long eyelashes, and full lips. His skin is a light copper tone, and his shaggy hair is naturally two different colors: for the most part it is a dark sable brown, except on the right side of his head, from just above his right eye to about four inches behind his right ear, where his hair is a light blonde color. His large almond-shaped eyes are similarly mismatched: the left is a golden-brown color with a ring of black around the outside of the iris, while the right is a forest green color with a yellowish hue in sunlight. Tsuka wears his hair with the blonde part shaved short, about an inch long, while the brown is left much longer. Overall it comes down to about his shoulder, though the front is a bit longer. He braids parts of it with white beads and black feathers. As the shaman, he- unlike most members of the tribe- has a couple outfits he can wear, though still only about two or three. His usual outfit is that of a simple sleeveless shirt made from soft dark brown buckskin, loose pants of varying types and colors of fur- mostly browns and grays- dark brown buckskin moccasins, and a cloak made from the pelt of a white bear, which is large enough to cover his entire body if needed and has the head intact, which he uses as a hood on occasion. He has many tattoos covering his arms and torso- all in dark purple as is the shaman color- which consists of the many symbols he knows of the spirit language, mostly in rings around his arms as well as lines down his chest and back. He also has the tattoo of an eye in the center of his forehead, which symbolizes his status as shaman. || Tsuka is generally quite reserved, to the degree of often being considered aloof by his tribemates. Though he is reasonably well-respected within the tribe- being the shaman- he does not really have any close friends, and prefers to keep entirely to himself when not needed for something in particular. He is a quick and logical thinker, and is generally good at giving advice to those who come for it, but though he is good at helping others with specific problems, he is less skilled in less formal and purposed conversation. That is to say, he is bad at casual interaction, and is easily confused by the subtleties of this, leading him to say and sometimes do stupid things simply because he doesn't understand what others are saying or doing. To avoid this, he generally just avoids any kind of casual interaction. He is sometimes known to be a bit abrasive, as he has a habit of being quite blunt when advising others. It's not that he cannot be subtle or kind- he just prefers to be straightforward and to tell it like it is. He sees no time in wasting words or time on unpleasant things, though he might linger on simple pleasures for far longer- he could waste an hour simply watching the rain. Despite his aloofness and abrasiveness, Tsuka is actually quite caring, and may sometimes show this when no one is watching by doing small things in the background to help out others. He is very quiet and is generally one of those people that is easy to miss in a crowd, despite his notoriety, and as such often finds himself accidentally sneaking up on his tribemates and surprising them when he speaks. || Physically, Tsuka is reasonably agile and well-balanced, his movements careful and almost dainty, but because of the efficiency with which he moves, he finds many tasks easy which others may find difficult, such as climbing or swimming. However, because he has lived his life almost exclusively within the camp and has not had much training in the way of hunting or fighting, he is a bit out of shape and his muscles underdeveloped, so he is not very strong and has very limited endurance. Besides that, it is not unlikely that he may have asthma, and thus outright running, or any similar movements that are rather strenuous, may cause him to have difficulty breathing. || Tsuka's early childhood was wrought with misfourtune. His mother died in childbirth and his father promptly abandoned him, and his white mark was accidentally wiped off before his third day. It came as a shock to the tribe when he was named as the future shaman, and this was regarded, despite all reassurances, as a bad omen for the future of the tribe. He was raised exclusively by the tenders of the tribe, as he effectively had no parents, and because of the misfortune of his first days he was regarded with aloofness and suspicion by most. Once he was about five years old and began to realize the significance of his future role as shaman, he began to spend nearly all his time with the shaman Hazu, who became to him like the mother he never had. He eagerly and willingly accepted his position once he reached fourteen, but it was only another year before Hazu died, as she had already been older when Tsuka was born. It was fortunate, because of this, that he had spent most of his early years with her, for even though he had only officially trained for one year, he was- if not entirely- mostly prepared to take on the role. It was only two years after this that he identified his own successor, something he is not sure whether he should take as a bad personal sign or a good sign for the tribe as a whole; he's not sure if that implies he will live a short life, or if it is fate's attempt to compensate for his own extremely short training by making his successor's long. || Tsuka has four totems in his care- three from animals, and one from Hazu (shaped as a muskrat). Two of the animals he inherited from Hazu (a rabbit and a hawk), while the other came from an injured robin he had tried to help, but which died regardless. || Parents are Syuuru and Laega; half-sister is Tem; mentor and adopted mother is Hazu. KEKEMAphelyon || 54 || Male || Bison || ᨒ || Kekem was once an imposing man, standing about 6'1" and with broad shoulders and a generally large build. In his old age he is no longer as imposing, with a somewhat bent back and weaker muscles, though he is still large. His silver hair is very long, coming down to about his mid back, and he generally wears in it many braids. His beard, too, is quite long, with strands braided. His eyes are dark green in color, and seem to twinkle with humor. His face is lined, and his hands shake when he holds things. Though he is rather frail, though, he still has a strength of spirit, and despite his age it seems as though he still has many years left ahead. || Kekem is a wise and introspective man, generally content to sit by the fire and watch his tribemates go about their business. He is rather soft-spoken, and always carefully considers his words. He is level-headed and a good advisor, considering the needs of his tribe and telling his tribemates what they want to hear in a way that will benefit them rather than lead them astray. He is gentle, caring, and kind, and only wants to leave the tribe better for having had lived. However, he was not always like this- when he was young, he was arrogant, reckless, and a bit wild, often letting his impulse and temper get the better of him. He was angry for many years that his elder brother Maadua was chosen as chief rather than him when their mother died, but after he caused a terrible hunting tragedy due to his arrogance and impulse, which forced him to reconsider himself, he realized why and changed his ways. Still, he still has a spark of that old temper even though he keeps it under careful control, and at times it may shine through, usually when others will not listen to his advice and begin to head down the same path he did. || Kekem is wise and logical, as well as very caring. However, he still has some temper, and is very stubborn, remnants of his youth. Though his mind is as sharp as ever- sharper, even- his body is beginning to fail him and he cannot move with the same ease as before. Though he is not necessarily unhealthy, he finds many things far more difficult to do, and even his eyes are now beginning to go. || Kekem was born as the second child to the chieftess, and grew up believing that he was meant to be the next chief. At fourteen, he chose to become a hunter, and though his skill was apparent he was less than an ideal leader. When his mother died when he was 21, he wholly expected Hazu- the shaman at the time- to choose him over his brother Maadua as the new chief. This was not the case, however, and he carried much bitterness and anger towards both his brother and the shaman for many years. He put more effort than ever into hunting, going after progressively larger and more dangerous prey, until he made the mistake of targeting a massive bull mastodon. Though his hunters were elite, they were few, and even a large group would never dare go after a bull mastodon of this size. The resulting fight killed several of his hunters, and he was badly injured in the process. He spent much of his recovery alone, contemplating his life and the path he had taken that had led to this outcome, while lamenting that it was his mistake which had gotten fine hunters and people killed, and yet he had lived. He decided that Asa-kel was giving him a second change, and thus changed his entire attitude and demeanor. He married his wife Addie, and not long after they had a daughter, Aika-haatsu. They were happy for a long time, with Kekem becoming well respected within the tribe. Addie died about eighteen years ago, but Kekem was determined to continue being the kind of man that she would want him to be. Once he reached his fiftieth winter, he retired from hunting altogether so that he could continue to guide the tribe instead of risking his life hunting. || Kekem has four totems: one of his wife, in the shape of a wolf; one from his daughter, in the shape of a salmon; and two from his time as a hunter. One is from his first kill after his recovery- a brown bear- and one is from his last kill before retiring- a bull elk. || Wife is Addie; daughter is Aika-haatsu; granddaughter is Tem. Brother is Maadua; nephew is Maguura.

GELAARPuck || 26 || Male || Hawk || အ || Tall, bulky, and a bit imposing, Gelaar stands at 6'1, a tower of muscle. His dark brown skin seems to mask his red tattoos oftentimes. His narrow, close-set eyes are dark brown, but appear black in most lights. Gelaar has a wide nose, sharp cheekbones, square jaw, large forehead, and thick, black eyebrows that point down a bit. His curly black hair is compressed into long dreads that come down to his lower back, often a massive and free range of hair. When hunting, one dread is tied around the rest to keep them out of the way and in place to a degree. Gelaar has, at the moment, a fairly short beard, only about an inch in length. He has broad shoulders, and a formidable layer of muscle under his skin. In terms of tattoos, Gelaar has the symbol on his neck, the ring around his left arm, and two mammoth tusks on his upper back. || Gelaar isn't necessarily outgoing -- he won't actively and repeatedly pursue conversation -- but is very open and and friendly to most members of the tribe. His emotions can bubble very close to the surface, and anger is no exception, especially when a hunt goes poorly. However he never takes out his emotions on others, physically or verbally; instead he tends to find a useful outlet or simply stews in his bad mood alone. Luckily, emotions pass very quickly for Gelaar and these things don't last very long for him. He can occasionally be a bit absentminded and is by no means proficient at gauging the severity or danger of a situation. Gelaar is a natural born follower, he does what's asked of him and to the best of his abilities, and knows for a fact that he will live and die as the tribe and Asa-kel demand it. || Gelaar is very strong, athletic, and in general, built for hunting. He is highly skilled with spears, and fits in fairly well in most social situations. He also happens to be very impulsive, and when he sets a goal, will often have tunnel vision towards that goal. As well, Gelaar isn't very resourceful, he likes to have things set out for him, and sticks rigidly to what he knows; this is to say that Gelaar is no leader, and simply does what he is told with little to no second guessing. || As the middle child, Gelaar felt that he got the short end of the stick. In his mind, Miri was his father's favorite, Dekah was his mother's favorite, and he felt that he was simply there in the background. He resented this fact for years growing up and became quite the little rebel within his family. Up until he was 13, Gelaar was as stick thin as his sister, Dekah, and found that he wanted nothing more than to be chief, and nothing else, to garner the respect and recognition he desired. However, when Miri and Lusiir passed, something in him changed. Yes, for the coming years he mourned them, but he was overwhelmed with a sense of guilt, like he never really connected to them as much as he should have, so he became significantly closer to his mother and Dekah. At the same time, he realized that the tribe was now two hunters short, and he worked as hard as he could to try to fill the gap his sister and father left within the tribe. He quickly found joy in the role and continued to learn not just because the tribe needed more hunters, but because he liked being one.Aside from his hawk, Gelaar has a totem that is a piece of bone from his first kill, a young buck.||
|| Parents are Nan and Lusiir. Siblings are Miri and Dekah. TAKODAshades 25 || Male || Fox || ဋ || Takoda is lithe and willowy, it only takes a slight twist of the body to adjust his aim, to pull back his bow, and the adrenaline of the hunt buzzing through him. His skin is olive-toned, he has muscle mass but not bulky like his father, nor tall. He stands at about 5’11”, chin held even and a silent stride. His hair is ebony black, falling at the brow and parted unevenly; a singular, longer strand is braided and adorned with beads and three feathers, two white in honor of his mother, and one blue in honor of his wife. On his left arm is the red ring of his hunter status, others of pure aesthetic adorn his upper arm. He also has a red line under his left eye symbolizing his marriage to Illoe. His eyes are likened to the clouds curdling over, heavy with rain in color. Gray orbs holding natural born curiosity and warmth of the summer rain. As a hunter, he dresses light in mostly buckskin short and sleeveless shirts, pants, and arm guards for his bow. He wears a belt that holds many useful supplies in pouches for his ‘prepared’ nature, and he wears a small jacket with a hood made of the fur of a bison. || He takes after his mother more so than his father. With delicate features, he has a soft face and specific tics: his brows furrow when in thought and he chews the bottom of his lip--he frowns a lot when it comes with thinking. He’s smarter than others give him credit for but sometimes he is given too much credit. His approach to a problem is meticulous, calculative. He’s cunning and stubborn, standing by his decisions with loyalty to the breaking point at best. Clever, witty and reckless at worst, pushing himself and continuously going. Takoda is pragmatic, he prefers to be three steps ahead but is willing to take a step back for others sake in a thoughtful manner; he listens and offers advice. He can be cold, he’s been chilling before but he has never turned the coldness on the innocent and kind of his tribe, there’s been anger and worry and sadness and joy and love and all sorts of warm and happy things, but never coldness. When Takoda gets truly angry he’s very quiet and occasionally loud but it takes quite a bit to get to this point. He goes off to be by himself but when he can’t get away it’s usually whoever is around him who calms him down--Illoe is logical and usually get Takoda to think rationally again. His father knows Takoda very well and can bring him back with stories and laughter. His sister is patient and can wait out the storm. He’s wholly strong in personality, a kind man who liked to have a plan, and is serious when needed, but has no problem relaxing when the time comes--Takoda oft can be in his own thoughts and prayers, or sitting by the fire and listening to the heroic stories of his tribe. || Physically, Takoda does not inherit his father’s strength. He does not make the large kills or even finds it practical to solo-attempt to round up a creature twice his size. What he lacks he makes up in quick aim and a fast draw in excellent bowmanship, and spear handling. In what his father lacked due to size, Takoda takes up as a skill; sneaking up and tracking smaller prey, making his way through the dense wood in clever footwork; but also can be clumsy and with a heavy footfall when distracted and oft lost in thought. When it comes to larger prey and the elite hunters, it almost is something of a timid nature that comes out: specifically getting close creatures larger and stronger than he. Takoda knows his strength in those sort of hunts come from afar with a spear, bow and arrow, or strategizing. However, sometimes trying to follow a path likened to his father, he finds himself confronting a large beast and suddenly all courage washes away. His personality is kind and demeanor strong for his people, however, some could say he can be pushed over as easily if it were mastodon doing the shoving--however, in his case it’s Illoe, his father, and sister who knock down his fortitude of stubbornness easily. || Takoda was born to the chief’s wife as the eldest son, raised as a relatively normal child. Although his skill varied and he had no qualms with the other positions, Takoda chose to be most like his father taking the path of a hunter and fighter of his tribe. He met Illoe when they were beginning, immediately attracted to her spirit and song likened to a bluebird of her namesake. He began courting her soon after receiving the blessing of his father and her own family. After many moons he offered his life totem to Illoe and received hers in return. They wedded on the new moon of the early summer season. || Takoda has two totems--his own life totem and the totem of his first kill, a caribou that strayed too close in its fright, charging him. || Parents are Maguura and Jeyshi. Sister is ?. Wife is Illoe. HEALOℊℓоω || 25 || Male || Caribou || ᘎ || Healo is a striking man and a very masculine presence. His role as hunter is implicit through his tall stature and muscular build. He carries himself in a confident way that is attractive to some and annoying to others. His handsome face is broad and angular, with a strong jaw and pronounced cheekbones. His lips are full and proud. His eyes, his most notable feature, are dark and intense. They are framed by thick black lashes and well defined brows that give him an appearance of constant anger. What redeems him is his bright white smile, which is not a rare sight around camp. He has dimples on each of his cheeks and his eyes soften when prompted by laughter. His coloring is on the warmer side naturally, with dark olive skin and ebony black hair. The hair, which is long and thick and straight as an arrow, is typically tied on his head and then allowed to flow down his back. He wears whatever clothes are most comfortable and durable. His pelts are well-worn because he's a physical creature, although they've been repaired many days by neat stitches. His tattoos are plentiful, as he sees them as a sign of age and maturity. With every significant experience, such as his first kill, the turning of the seasons, or the birth of new tribemates, he gets a new tattoo. Healo is also a man of many scars, from various hunting accidents, falls, and scraps with wildlife. His most distinct scar, or scars, is four parallel lines along his back, crossing half of its width. They are from an encounter with a bear when he was still a young hunter. He survived the incident, thankfully, although it has made him wary of large predators. Another notable thing about Healo is his piercings--he has two pieces of bone through each of his ears, more specifically the claws of large felines he extracted from skeletons. || Healo is a rather polarizing man. The majority of tribemembers enjoy him based on the fact that he's highly charismatic and he is a skilled hunter. Others dislike him out of distaste for his confidence or jealousy of his physical strength. Either way, Healo is rather oblivious. He goes by the philosophy that if you treat someone with kindness, they will enjoy your company. What he sometimes fails to realize is that bragging about his kills is not a great way to make genuine friends. He is quite full of himself, although at the heart of things he is a good man that wants nothing more than to provide for his tribe. He is ambitious in a sense that he gets fulfillment from being a celebrated hunter. He does not, however, think of himself as a leader in the traditional sense. The idea of leading hunting parties is usually brushed off, because he has a surprising insecurity in his ability to successfully protect and lead. He would much rather be a powerful follower than a weak ruler. Otherwise Healo is a very charismatic person. He is friendly to just about everyone, with very few exceptions. He has a soft spot for children, and is a charmer with women. || Healo is a powerful hunter, the type that is known to go for larger game with a history of success. He has good instincts and is willing to go to great lengths to make the kill, whether it be following a herd for days on end or waiting patiently for the right time to strike. He is a good team player, and he works well in groups. A weakness is that Healo is rather hesitant to take charge, even when he is the best equipped for the job. He also comes off as rather arrogant, because he has a lack of self awareness at times. He does not take criticism well and is known to mope. That being said, it is surprisingly difficult to push Healo to the point of losing his temper. For such an arrogant man, he is quite even-keeled. Physically, he is strong. His weakness as a hunter lies in his ingrained fear of large predators, specifically bears. || Twin sister is Astarte. ILLOEcptsisko || 24 || Female || Bluebird || ξ || Illoe, for all intents and purposes, is an attractive woman. She's tall and broad shouldered with skin the color of copper. Her face is round with high cheek bones and a wide, flat nose that points down ever so slightly. Her lips are round. Faint lines have appeared around her lips from constant smiling. Her hair is long, thick and black, like her siblings. She usually keeps it up in an elaborate braid design. As a hunter, she's well built with toned calves and arms. As a hunter, her tattoos are red and styled on her right arm. Most are for aesthetic purposes, with designs crawling up her arm to her shoulder. She has a tattoo under her eye for her marriage to Takoda. She dresses in simple buckskin clothing, though she has a few beads stitched into the collar of her dress. || Illoe is sharp and quick witted, often finding it hard to keep her tongue in check. She's opinionated to say the least, and will give you her thoughts whether you like it or not. She can be rather conceited as well, but truly wants the best for her tribe and those around her. She tries to be the voice of reason for others and when the time comes for it, she can be a very effective leader. Despite her headstrong nature, she always plans things to the last detail and consults the elders. She's terrified of making the same mistake her father did. || Illoe is a skilled hunter. She's more effective as a trapper and small game hunter than big prey such as mastodons. She also has a lovely singing voice, hence her animal, the bluebird. She's hesitant to make large decisions without consulting anyone or a plan. Though she's quick, she often lacks the strength and size needed to hunt big animals, hence why she prefers to trap and hunt forest animals. || Illoe was the oldest child of Hartem and Yydaea and was well loved by both of them. She followed in her father's footsteps and became a hunter as soon as she was old enough. Unfortunately, her father was always rather reckless, and got his hunting party killed shortly after her 18th birthday. Her mother died when she was 22 of a particularly bad infection, and she was left with just her siblings. || She has three totems so far. Her own, her fathers - a boar - and one that symbolizes her first hunt, an elk. She gave her mother's totem to her brother, Ruukk. || Parents are Hartem and Yydaea; siblings are Jhiki and Ruukk. YSEREI𝕾𝖙𝖔𝖗𝖒𝖗𝖆𝖌𝖊 || 22 || Female || Golden Eagle || Ԅ || Yserei is relatively petite, standing at just above five-feet. Despite her small stature, she is lean and toned and agile. Perhaps Yserei's most striking feature is the color of her hair; it is a deep red, glinting with copper undertones. The color is reminiscent of blood, and can be unsettling for some people - Yserei included. Despite the unsettling shade of her hair, Yserei is rather beautiful, as such things go. While she personally cares little about her outward appearance, aside from being clean and semi-presentable, there are others who take appearance importantly. Her facial features are smooth and proportioned, with high cheekbones and a relatively straight nose, save for a small crick near the beginning, in between her eyes. There is one scar on Yserei's face, running from the tip of her left eyebrow, across the bridge of her nose, to the bottom tip of her right eye; it was earned when a large bird of prey tried to steal one of the smaller hare's she'd netted, and instead of getting a talon on the hare, the bird managed to rake a talon across Yserei's nose. Her eyes are a dark blue-green that seem to lean, more often than not, towards the bluer shades. On her right arm is a red band, marking her position as a hunter. On the base of her neck is the symbol for her name-animal, Ԅ. Across her back, there is a tattoo scene of one of the greater hunts she participated in, taking down a rather large fang-cat. She has a tattoo wrapping around her right side of an eagle, talons extended, beak open in a fearsome screech. Yserei is slender and agile, as stated above, and is quick on her feet. She's a rather masterful climber, and scale almost any surface with ease. Yserei's hair is long, and she will often pull it up and away from her face, but she is not against letting her hair fall down to the middle of her back. || Yserei is bold and independent, strong-willed, and above all, stubborn. She's not afraid to stick her nose in someone's face to assert her dominance, and while it can sometimes come across as aggressive or overbearing, Yserei is not a totally domineering person. She simply is dedicated to standing up for her beliefs, and making sure that her own needs are met, as well as the tribe's. She's opinionated, though, for the most part, she can work well with others. She's a genuinely good person, but can be easily irritated by questions she deems pointless or stupid, and by too much social interaction. She's sort of a lone wolf, and though she's perfectly happy on her own, she is dedicated to keeping her tribe fed and safe. A lone wolf will still be loyal to the pack, and Yserei is no different. Yserei is a natural leader, and will take control if necessary; she's good at delegating some tasks, but tends to hold on to the tasks she deems as more honorable; one of her greatest desires is to prove her honor. At times, Yserei feels inadequate, partly because the role she's chosen is male dominated, and partly she is not the son that her father wanted. || As stated before, Yserei is an agile climber, and a relatively fast runner. She is ambidextrous, and can use both hands independently of one another. She can be charismatic and a leader if necessary, but she can be overbearing and aggressive. She's not very strong, and because she's petite, she sometimes struggles to participate in the hunting of larger animals. Because she is opinionated, Yserei sometimes fails to take the opinions of others into account before rushing headlong into a decision. She's impulsive and young, but highly intelligent and, when she slows down, can recognize the strengths of others. || Yserei was born as the first and the only child of Lus and Jehaarr, much to her father's dismay, as he had hoped for a son. He didn't really know how handle a young girl, and as a result he tended to treat Yserei as if she were a boy. He was tough, rather stoic and unemotional, and didn't stand for excuses when he decided that his daughter had failed at a certain task. He instilled self-independence, loyalty, and hard-work into his daughter, and despite many attempts, Jehaarr died before he and his wife were able to conceive again. Yserei was thirteen when her father died, and her mother seemed to wilt in on herself. Lus become a shadow of the woman she once was, and Yserei was forced to raise herself and teach herself the necessary skills when it came time to hunt. As much as Yserei wishes her mother hadn't been destroyed by Jehaarr's death, she does not hold too much resentment towards her mother. She gets frustrated with Lus, but she loves her mother very much. || Parents are Jehaarr and Lus. TENDUA𝕛𝕠𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕔𝕤 || 23 || Male || Fang Cat || ૪ || Tendua is lithe, tan skinned, and agile. His hair is dark, chocolate brown, and long enough to hang in his eyes. There are sun-streaks of lighter brown filtered in, and he wears several thin braids, though none of which are any longer than his bangs. He has high cheekbones and a sharp jawline, along with noticeable freckles sprinkled across his nose and under his eyes. There are much, much more, decorating his back and arms particularly, but those are seen less often. His lips are rose pink and bowed, and his irises are bright green, a ring of amber lining his pupils. He has long eyelashes and his eye-shape is almost feline in appearance, sharp and sometimes more threatening than he intends. Tendua is very tall, standing at well above six feet, and that paired with broad shoulders and a limber frame makes him a perfect match for his hunting role. He bears a red band on his left arm and many others for his pleasure only, none of which have much meaning to anyone but himself. || Tendua is a free spirit, and as aggressive as his animal counterpart. He has little respect for authority, something that definitely does not do him any favors within the tribe. Despite his lack of submissiveness, he is incredibly loyal, and dangerously self-sacrificing when it comes to something or someone he cares about. It takes a while to earn his trust, but once you have it, he will defend you to his last breath. Although he considers himself to be distant when it comes to relationships, he is generally very friendly, and almost never rude. He isn't the type to be incessantly humorous, but he's no stranger to sarcasm. || Tendua is physically adept - even stronger than he looks and fast enough to outrun almost anything he hunts. He is incredibly skilled in his role, and is proficient with any and all weapons, though he prefers close-quarter instruments, such as knives or spears, or even his bare hands. He is very brave and tends to be selfless to the point of fault, willing to risk anything for his tribe. However, these traits come with drawbacks. Tendua is reckless and even audacious at times, refusing to bow to those ranking above him is he believes he's doing the right thing. He takes risks that are dangerous enough to be considered stupid and has almost zero sense of self-preservation. If there is an opportunity for him to take on large game, he does it without thinking and without waiting for backup. Though he doesn't show it often, he is also a bit of a pessimist and tends to expect the worst. In this way, he is also distrusting, and rarely willingly relies on others. He's overambitious and often overconfident, traits that could very easily get him killed. AESU-RAcoyote ◦ || 17 || Female || Cave Lion/Horse || ې ձ || Aesura has coppery skin, from hours out in the sun, as well as being born with a natural olive hue. She tans easily in the summer, and can go shades darker then her natural, winter skin tone. Her hair is a dark brown, seemingly black at night or indoors, but has coppery red highlights when out in direct sunlight. Her hair is long and falls to the small of her back, and is a tangled mess of thick, heavy curls. She wears five small braids on her right temple, giving her a faux side-cut, and has wooden beads threaded through the braids. Aesura stands at about 5'4, and weighs a light 110 pounds, though all that weight is pure muscle from hours of hunting, and hunting practice. Her build is sinewy, and flexible like a cat. Her cheek bones are high and very sharp, and her eyes have a slight Asian look to them, and are framed by thick black lashes, and she usually lines her eyes with smudgy black coal. Her eyes are a bright golden-amber, with flecks of bright jade green in their depths if one looks closely enough, giving her eyes a hazel appearance from far away. As for tattoos, her two name symbols are stacked on top of each other at the base of her neck, she has a dark red arm band tattoo around her right arm, the mark of her 14th birthday, she has three black dots under her left eye for aesthetic purposes. (reference) || Notorious for her quick temper, she is quick to anger, and slow to forgiveness. It is easy to inflame and manipulate her anger, and it is the best way to get her to lose all reason. Besides that large flaw in her personality, she is a social soul, and yearns for closeness with people, and tries her best to be as social as possible. She has mastered the art of charm, or at least, in her mind she has. She can be very cunning and somewhat manipulative, and she has a knack for being a natural and fluent liar. Aesura can be lazy, and hard to motivate at times, though once she does get motivated, she doesn't let any obstacle stand in her way. She is known for being fickle and moody as well, with a dash of arrogance. Due to her two spirits, one could argue that she is a conflicted being, always fighting between two very different sides of herself, making her unpredictable and a bit out of touch with her inner self. || Besides being a very skilled hunter for her size and age, she has always been physically adept, especially with the spear, her preferred hunting weapon over bows and arrows. She is skilled at spear throwing, and practices often. Her bow skills aren't too shabby, but she doesn't practice nearly as much as she should. On the other hand, she can't swim at all and has a fear of water, while also having a fear of the dark. Her conflicted nature also makes it hard for her to be loyal to one person or thing, and she finds herself in moral dilemmas quite often, and her ability to hold grudges for a lifetime also isn't beneficial to her. || When Aesura was born, it was evident to the shaman at the time that she had two spirits, and it was surmised that she was supposed to be born with a twin, one that she had devoured in the womb and taken their spirit. Her dominant spirit was the Cave Lion, while the Horse spirit had belonged to the twin she had absorbed in the womb. When someone with two spirits is born, it is often said that their spirit was stronger then their siblings, and they had over taken them in the womb due to a power imbalance. However Aesura was born at an odd time, and despite having two spirits, she was not destined to be a shamans apprentice, something that rarely happened. Her mother died in child birth, Aesura being her only child she ever bore, after many miscarriages for years into her marriage. She died because the bleeding had not stopped for a whole twenty-four hours, leading to her death. Not many in the tribe thought much of that, deaths often happened when the mothers spirit was weaker then their childs, in this case, Aesura's mother Asura, had the spirit animal of an Owl, so it wasn't odd that her strong child had killed her in birth. Aesura was left as an only child to be raised by her father and of course the Tenders. Her father Haagar had been a good hunter for the tribe, and specialized with the spear, and his spirit animal had been a Cave Bear. However when Aesura was 11, her father was mauled to death by a Cave Lion during a hunting trip, leaving Aesura without both of her parents. || Parents are Haagar and Asura. AIKASalted Squid || 40 || Female || Salmon || ق || Appearance || Personality || Skills/Weaknesses || History || Husband is Saadin; daughter is Addie. DEKAHPuck || 23 || Female || Mouse || ಮ || Fairly thin and fairly tall, at 5'9, Dekah looks like she'd sway in the wind. Her skin is a very deep brown, so dark that her tattoos are hardly visible in certain lights. Her chin and cheekbones are sharp, her forehead is a bit large, her nose is wide, her lips and her eyebrows are thick. Dekah's down-turned dark brown eyes appear black except in bright lights, and seem to make her appear sad at all times. Her curly black hair is compressed into dreads that barely touch her shoulders. Her hair is rarely put up, always down, doing whatever it wants. Dekah stands mostly like a stick: thin, fairly curveless, and besides her broad shoulders, seems to take up the least amount of space as possible. Dekah has a decent number of tattoos aside from the symbol on her neck, and the ring on her right arm. Most prominent is a massive snake curling around her right leg with the symbol for snake ( م ) in honor of her sister, Miri. On her right foot is the symbol for spider ( ف ) in honor of her mother, and on the left foot is the symbol for hummingbird ( ك ) in honor of her father. || Dekah is quiet and reserved, partly because she prefers to listen in a conversation, partly because she's uncomfortable and awkward in social situations. When a conversation can be extracted from her, it's usually fairly boring, and her personality usually adapts to that of whoever she's speaking to, because despite usually keeping to herself, she cares a little too much about what others think of her. She wants people to like her while simultaneously trying to distance herself from them emotionally. This is her feeble attempt to form new bonds like those between herself and her family members while making sure she doesn't have to lose anyone else that she cares deeply about. Dekah cares for the tribe and will do what she can to help, but still will put her own needs and her family's needs first, even if her family consists of only herself and Gelaar now. Though the smarter of the two remaining members of her family, Dekah feels lost and confused without her parents and sister. Despite the fact that they don't talk very much, and that Gelaar is the older and stronger of the two, Dekah has found herself taking on the role of his protector. || Dekah has above average senses of sound, smell, and sight, which coincide with her role as a finder within the tribe. She's generally resourceful and smart, though she definitely does worse under pressure. Dekah is also, in no way, athletic. Sure she can sustain long walks, but she has no strength, and can only run for short periods of time before being winded. || When Dekah was born, the white mark disappeared. What was assumed to just be a symbol of her own misfortune ended up being an indirect omen of her family's bad luck and the massive emotional impact it'd have on her. While, yes, Dekah has suffered with many near misses with fatal illnesses, which have left her as emaciated as she is, she's managed to survive despite it all. The string of health issues in her childhood spurred on her desire to become a finder, to search the lands for the medicine needed to keep frail children like herself from dying far too young. Dekah is the youngest of three, with Gelaar 3 years older and Miri 7 years older. Dekah was 10 when her sister and father (both hunters) sustained serious injuries from a mammoth which took her sister first, and her father a few days later. While Lusiir was a bit distant, her sister was, at the time, her best friend and biggest influence. Her death took a massive toll on Dekah which prompted her to get the snake tattoo as soon as she was old enough. Miri's death changed Dekah forever, and after her father and sister's deaths, Dekah tried to distance herself a bit from her remaining family members and the tribe as a whole. Even so, her mother's death when she was 17 devastated her, and only seemed to bring her closer to Gelaar, who she'd now risk anything for. Though she is not as emotionally close to him as she was with Miri, she's taken on the role of his protector all the same. || Parents are Nan and Lusiir. Siblings are Miri and Gelaar. JHIKIcptsisko || 20 || Female || Deer || Ξ || Like all her siblings, Jhiki is tall and copper skinned. Though, she is perhaps the smallest out of all of them. Her figure is willowy, with long slender limbs and fingers. Her face is round, with thin lips that are always turned into a mischievous grin. Her nose is small, wide and flat, and her eyes are dark and almond shaped. Her hair is thick and black, and she keeps it short and down. It frames her face in a harsh and straight manner. She dresses in loose animal skins and doesn't particularly care how she looks. She only has the ring around her right arm as far as tattoos go, and a series of dots going vertically down her abdomen. || Jhiki is cheeky, to put it mildly. She often is doing something she shouldn't and is often scolded for it by those around her. She's rather shifty and flighty, giving her the appearance that she's always nervous, much like her animal counterpart. However the more likely reason is that she's up to no good. She is good at what she does however and her sister keeps her on a short leash, which she bargains is the only reason she's still in the tribe's good graces. || Jhiki is an excellent finder due to her keen eyesight and quick reflexes. She's rather high strung however, and her hands often shake, making her a bit clumsy when it comes to collecting things. Paired with her nasty habit of causing trouble, she can be quite a handful to deal with. || Jhiki was the third child of Yydaea and Hartem and was often allowed to get away with things as a child as her parents were dealing with her other siblings. She's always been a problem child, and it got worse after her parents died. || She currently only has the totem she received at 14. A thing to also note is that she's 3 months pregnant. It's not a big secret, and she doesn't seem to be phased by it, though she outright refuses to tell anyone who the father is. || Parents are Hartem and Yydaea; siblings are Illoe and Ruukk. ASTARTEℊℓоω || 25 || Female || Crane || ᕓ || Astarte, like her brother, is a rather striking presence. She too is quite tall, in fact she can look the average man right in the eye. She is of a narrow, long legged build although she is physically strong. In fact, Astarte has the body of a hunter, given she was one for a good portion of her life, before the accident. The "accident" was a traumatic experience of Astarte's twentieth winter, in which she took a massive fall when a boulder one which she was standing fell loose from its place atop a hill. Although she landed without injury, the boulder rolled over her right foot, snapping her ankle completely. From that day, she has been completely unable to run, and she walks with a distinctive limp. Despite it, Astarte has a demanding physical presence. She is beautiful in that her face is symmetrical and feminine which is a welcome contrast to her strength and height. Her nose is narrow and straight, her lips full and in a cupid's bow shape. Her facial structure, like her brother's is angular, although hers is more narrow. Astarte's eyes are almond shaped and pleasant, a whiskey brown in color. Her brows are arched and well shaped. Astarte's contrast with her twin lies mostly in her coloring. Where is is primarily warmly colored, she has a natural coldness to her, perhaps mostly due to her paler skin. While he is tanned, she looks as though she spends all day in a cave (which is not true). Her hair is jet black, so much so that it takes on an almost midnight blue in the right light. It is not quite as thick as her brother's, as it takes on a bit of a feathery loose curl on the ends. It is worn down, but for a pair of braids down the back of her head. Astarte has a mix of orange and red tattoos from her time as both a hunter and a shaper. || As far as her personality goes, Astarte is the more reserved of the twins. She is less likely to make new friends as to gravitate towards those she finds familiar and safe. She is confident outwardly, like her brother, but rather than coming off as arrogant, she is often percieved as rather aloof. She does not think of herself as being superior to others in any way, but she does have a certain air of silent judgement to her. She is an intelligent woman and an independant one, and to some that can be rather threatening. Truth be told, Astarte is perfectly fine with spending most of her time alone, if not in the company of a select few people. This isn't to say she's awful to be around. In fact, she is rather pleasant in most situations. She has a warm, soft laugh, and a rather maternal energy. She looks after the younger members of the tribe and is an ally to all of the women. She is a spiritual person and a perceptive one. || Physically, the most obvious one is that she has a limp. As explained above, she was in a terrible accident a few years ago which has prevented her of doing her chosen duty as a hunter. If forced to run for whatever reason, Astarte would be in trouble. That aside, however, around camp Astarte has forced most to forget her disability. She can do anything anyone else can do, she's sometimes just a bit slower at doing it. For that reason, she has put herself to work by helping to fix structures, clothes, and weapons for the others, as skill for which she has an inherent knack. Her favorite thing, however, is putting tattoos on her fellow tribesmen. She has a steady hand and a love of intricate designs. As far as personality flaws and strengths go, well, as with all people, there are too many to explain in great detail. Her most prominent psychological flaw is the fact that she is quite reclusive. She has a close circle of friends, and is on good terms with the rest of the tribe, but she is meant to walk in small groups. She becomes drained by spending too much time around others. She also gets stir crazy, as a side effect of her ankle, and that can be frustrating. There are days when she gets snippy and difficult, as a result of not getting enough time away from camp. As far as strengths go, she is capable of great tenderness when given the chance. She loves nothing more than to spend hours in the quiet company of those she trusts. She is a fiercely loyal woman, and she will do anything for those she loves. She is also a fierce protector of fellow women, and is a sort of quiet mother without children. || She was a hunter for a good portion of her life, before the accident. MAADUAAphelyon || 28 || Female || Brown Bear || え || Maadua is a very small and skinny woman- standing at about 5'2" and with an extremely frail frame she looks as though a particularly strong gust of wind could carry her away. Her hair is a light brown in color, though in sunlight it has a bit of a reddish hue. It is quite long, coming down to about her waist, and she wears it in many small braids which she then pulls back in a ponytail. Her eyes are a dark chocolate brown which would be quite beautiful if it weren't for the fact that the left is completely blind with cataracts, and the right is half-blind. She is rather light-skinned, and there are a few freckles on her cheeks and shoulders- there would be more if she didn't spend so little time in the sun. Maadua generally wears a long elk skin dress which covers most of her body, with a cloak made of part of a mammoth pelt. She must dress warmly, as she is very sensitive to cold, even during the summer, and she prefers to be almost entirely covered. || Maadua is extremely quiet, very rarely speaking- she may go days without saying a single word. She is the sort of person who tends to remain entirely unseen even within plain view, something which is reinforced by the simple familiarity of her bustling around camp cooking, cleaning, and doing her other chores- it's just become an ingrained habit in the minds of her tribemates to overlook her. On the one hand, she enjoys the peace of simply being allowed to go about her daily tasks without being disturbed, but on the other hand, it can get very lonely, as even in her off time she is generally ignored. Not in a malicious way, of course- she is just small, shy, quiet, and very easy to miss. She would never seek out interaction with anyone else, and is very awkward when engaged in conversation. Because she can't see, her other senses have become very acute to compensate, and because of this and her ability to come and go with ease means that she gets to hear all the gossip within the tribe. But of course being so quiet, and not at all malicious, all her tribemates' secrets are safe with her. || Maadua has extremely keen senses- besides vision- and pretty good reflexes despite her disability. She is very mentally organized, a fantastic multitasker, and very efficient in her duties. However, she is extremely shy and awkward, and has pretty much no social skills. Physically, she is extremely weak, and it's really quite spectacular that she's even still alive. She was born a sickly child and it was a surprise she lived past her first three days- and it has continued to be a surprise every year since. As mentioned, she is very sensitive to the cold, and gets sick easily, though she somehow always seems to get past it without too much damage done. || Maadua was born sick and blind with an unknown father, and wasn't expected to live. She surprised the tribe by clinging to life for first three days, and then a year, and then until fourteen. She surprised no one, however, by choosing to become a tender- after all, as sick as she was, and blind, there was no way she could ever be a hunter, finder, or shaper. After that, she pretty much passed out of the collective consciousness of the tribe, going about her duties every day and simply keeping to herself. She remained very close to her mother throughout this time, and was devestated when Keyda was killed by a pair of wolves while out finding. She has come to terms with it in the years since, but still quietly grieves her mother and only friend. She still occasionally wonders who her father is, but has accepted that she will probably never know, and thus does not put too much thought to it. || Maadua has only one totem- that from her mother- which is in the shape of a rabbit. || Mother is Keyda. TEMAphelyon|| 13 || Female || Weasel || ᱑ || A rather small but long-limbed and slender child, Tem really looks like her counterpart animal. She has weasel-like features from her light chestnut-brown hair, which looks golden in sunlight, to her almost beady dark brown eyes and her elongated, pointed features. Her skin is surprisingly pale, but tanned slightly with sunlight, and she has freckles scattered across her high cheekbones. Her hair is cut straight across at about her chin, and she generally wears her bangs tucked behind her ears. Tem is not especially fond of jewelry of any sort, and prefers to dress lightly, unless it is very cold. She generally wears a short dark brown elk skin dress which comes to about her mid thigh, with a pair of tawny knee-length buckskin shorts beneath that. She generally goes barefoot, though she does have a pair of mammoth leather sandals in case the ground is very cold or wet. || Tem is a trickster and a free spirit, as her animal would imply. She enjoys getting into things that she shouldn't, especially if she isn't caught. She is very sneaky, always coy and cheeky, and generally always seems to be up to no good, even when she isn't. Tem is the master of finding loopholes in things, and thus somehow always manages to talk her way out of getting into trouble. She is curious about the world, to the degree of being nosy, and thus enjoys eavesdropping on the conversations of older tribe members. When not sneaking about, she is outgoing and social, and enjoys being the center of attention. She especially loves breaking norms and eliciting a shocked reaction from others, and doesn't hold much stock in tradition. Being so curious and wild, she has attempted to scale the wall and sneak out of camp multiple times, sometimes getting a decent distance into the trees before she is caught. Tem refuses to be tied down or controlled in any way, though unfortunately this lack of planning or foresight means that as her fourteenth birthday grows nearer, she has no idea which role she wants to take. For now, she pushes that problem from her mind and has lately been wilder than ever, determined to live up her childhood while it lasts. || Tem is sneaky, agile, flexible, and clever, very good at improvising and talking her way out of situations. She can be quite manipulative as well, and knows how to play others. However, she is a bit of a sociopath, in that she finds it difficult to relate to or empathize with others, and thus has little attachment to her tribemates, making her feel a bit out of place. She tries not to be introspective and not think about herself or her problems, and instead simply lives spontaneously. This means that she is always able to appear chipper, but it also means that she does not really know herself or what she wants, and has no plans for her future. She is not very physically strong, nor is she artistic, and is quite impatient and even petulant when she doesn't get her way. All in all, despite her high intelligence she is very immature. || Many years after his first wife Syuura died giving birth to Tsuka, Tem's father Laega remarried Haatsu, Tem's mother. It was several years before they decided to have a child, as Laega was afraid of losing Haatsu in the same was as Syuura, but eventually Tem was born. Haatsu survived, and the family was happy for two years until Haatsu died suddenly of an unknown illness. Like with Tsuka, Laega then grew distant from his second child, until he was eventually killed by a mastodon in a hunt when Tem was five. Like Tsuka, Tem grew up rather alone, as many superstitiously considered her and all of Laega's immediate kin as being bad luck. To get the attention she felt she needed, Tem became a bit of a wild child, a habit which has remained ever since. || Parents are Laega and Aika-haatsu; half-brother is Tsuka; grandfather is Kekem. ADDIESalted Squid || 10 || Female || Wolf || ∴ || Addie is currently a smaller child, though due to her young age she has plenty of time left to grow. She has soft, round features, along with a relatively curve-less shape; even for a young child, she's very androgynous in physique, with an almost delicate, bird-like build. She has pale skin that is dotted all over with freckles, especially on her face and shoulders, which match nicely with her full head of vibrant ginger hair, which sticks out all over the place and is no longer than her shoulders. Her eyes are a striking contrast to her hair, which resembles the fires that burn in the center of camp; a deep blue-green, they're more reminiscent of a deep, clear pool of water hidden within a cave, and sparkle with the joys of youth. She looks like any other child her age, indistinguishable except for her left foot, which is rather oddly twisted; it looks almost like she broke it and it healed wrong, though it was like that when she was born. The deformity doesn't seem to cause her much pain, though she walks with a bit of a limp, more out of the foot's awkward position than anything else. Her typical attire is the pelt of a fawn, wrapped about her skinny body like a dress with one shoulder strap, soft and light brown. She usually goes barefoot, as her deformity makes it difficult to make a pair of shoes that fit her right. Being under 14 years of age, her only tattoo is the standard one of her symbol, which rests at the base of her neck. || Personality || Skills/Weaknesses || Designated as the next shaman. || Parents are Aika and Saadin.

SYUURAAphelyon || 21 || Female || Mink || Ԅ || Syuura is a small woman, standing only about 5'4" and with a petite frame. She has dark sable brown hair, which is cut rather short and only falls to just past her shoulders. Her eyes are forest green in color, with an amber-yellow hue in bright sunlight, and her skin is a light copper. || Syuura is a friendly and bright-spirited person, always looking on the bright side of things and keeping her hopes up. She always seems to be optimistic and lets nothing get her down, always trying to make the best of a situation. Still, she can get frustrated at times when things repeatedly go wrong, but it takes a lot to push her over the edge. Name: Aesu-ra
Symbol: ې and ձ
Animal: Cave Lion / Horse
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Relationships:
Haagar (father), Asura (mother).
Role: Hunter
Appearance: Aesura has coppery skin, from hours out in the sun, as well as being born with a natural olive hue. Reference.
Personality: Notorious for her quick temper, she is quick to anger, and slow to forgiveness. Do to her two spirits, one could argue that she is a conflicted being, always fighting between two very different sides of herself, making her unpredictable and a bit out of touch with her inner self.
Skills/Weaknesses: Besides being a very skilled hunter for her size and age, she has always been physically adept, especially with the spear, her preferred hunting weapon over bows and arrows.
History: When Aesura was born, it was evident to the shaman at the time that she had two spirits, and it was surmised that she was supposed to be born with a twin, one that she had devoured in the womb and taken their spirit.

(If it's not already on the list of spirit words then go ahead and make it up. The only requirement, really, is just that you try to sort of fit it into the general style of the rest of the words, but that's pretty easy to do. I can help if you think you need it, though.)

(Hm. I see a few issues, mostly minor.
First, the tribe doesn't have a way of knowing if someone is going to have twins before the twins are born, except possibly an educated guess once the woman is far along enough to show that there's probably more than one baby. So though it could be true she absorbed her twin, the tribe wouldn't know that. She may very well have two spirits, though, in which case you could add a second spirit to the animal category.
As for the role, unfortunately shaman apprentice is already claimed- I hadn't yet marked it yet, so my mistake on that one. Addie is set to be the shaman after Tsuka. But Aesura would would be too old anyways, as Hazu- shaman before Tsuka- wouldn't have yet died by the time Aesura was born. Otherwise, with two spirits, she certainly would have been chosen. But, I'm sure we can find something else special for her to do even if she's not shaman.
Thirdly, the symbol and name. The other character Aesu would have been long dead by the time Aesura was born, so there would be no need to add an adjective [which I assume is what 'ra' is?]. If she had two spirits, however, ra could be the spirit word for the second one. As far as her symbols go, she would have two, the first of course being the one for cave lion [ې] and the second being the one ra, which could be the symbol you listed, whatever ra comes to mean. For location, I suppose the symbols could be next to each other or one above the other, though I also thought that if there were to be a two-spirit, having a symbol on each shoulder blade rather than at the base of the neck would be cool too.
Not sure if you like those suggestions or if you'd rather change her to a regular cave lion spirit, but it's a thought.)
(Edit: oh yeah I also forgot. The bones that she wears, and her white tattoos. The only items that the tribe actually makes with bones are the specific sacred totems. All other bones, from animals or humans, are smashed and burned- just tossed into the fire pits, in the case of animals. Unless the animal is kept for a specific reason as a totem, the tribe will not "trap their spirit" in their bones by keeping them for things like jewelry. However, having carved beads made out of stone and wood in her hair would work instead. As for the white tattoos, they only represent dead kin by coloring their marriage tattoo or the dots representing their children black. They don't really have a way to make white tattoos as they color the tattoos with berries, and white wouldn't be able to cover the colors of the original mark anyhow. I think I may have forgotten to put that tidbit in the tattoos section, sorry.)

(well, there's already a living character who is a fox and thus has that name... duplicates do happen but your character would then need to have an "adjective" added to their name to differentiate them from the other fox. I would recommend using an animal that hasn't been used or is used only by a dead character, and coming up with your own name [or using the dead character's name, in that case], but you can have another fox if you really want.)

》Oh! Somehow, I must have overlooked that. My bad.
It's no issue for me to pick something else, don't worry. I'm pretty easy-going, just as a heads-up.《

( awesome! I'll fix everything then, perhaps they can assume she had a twin because she has two spirits, and I can have her be a hunter <3 no worries! let me fix it all up, as for the name, I'll change it, I just wasn't sure the timeline for when Aesu would've been dead. Thank you! )
