Victorian-esque layout with grays and blacks and maybe some demure, muted reds. these are the posts it'll need:
i - banner, key ii - introduction, rules iii - about, plot, species iv - joining information, members, news

so I know you said greys and blacks, but when you said victorian the first thing that came to mind was sepia so I included some sepia-toned colour schemes here, too in looking for images to make these palettes based on I also found out that sepia also actually counts as black and white which surprised me ngl. anyway, my favourites are probably greyscale 3 and 4 but I wanted to run them all by you just in case you liked another one better.

greyscale 4 it is! I'll start working now, we'll see how long it ends up taking.

I've tried like four things now and none of them look very victorian at all, they all look more greek than anything because of how divs lend themselves to columns but not trims. other than architecture, can you think of anything to draw inspiration from when it comes to shape and style? I might end up doing something a lot more vague if it doesn't work out soon because I hate every attempt I'm making right now.

okay so I've got an approach I think might work (fingers crossed!) but it would require quite specific formatting, especially when it comes to things like the banner. specifically, the banner would need to be triangular or at the very least slanted like a trapezoid and have very specific dimensions. so, my question is, have you already got a banner made? would either of the requirements bother you? if so, I can go back and try to figure something out, but I'm not sure it'll look much like anything.

so, this approach isn't working either. I'm going to give up for tonight and give it another go tomorrow, but I'll be focusing on colour instead of the victorian theme because that's throwing me off at every turn. hopefully that'll make it easier, but if I still get nowhere I might just have to give up.
