Dead roleplay

(Hm...Sageheart and Sunpaw have to travel back, but aside from that I've got all my charies open :3)

(Thanks to everyone for waiting patiently while I was away! State Convention went great and I just got my replacement laptop in the mail, so my activity here will be a lot more reliable! As for my replies, I'm going to tag everyone I'm responding to, just so I can give them a heads up since it's been a while)

Softwing purred, stretching out her paws "Sure! I just got back from a hunting patrol, so I could use some time to rest. Did you want to maybe go rest on the dunes?"
The camp had some nice sunny spots, but some cats in the tribe had started to make her feel sortof weird when she hung out with Aspenfur. They gave her these odd looks, almost like laughing? It made her mad. Why did cats want to make fun of her and Aspenfur? Well, I'll show them! We don't need to let them see our tails bushed up, just because they can't keep their whiskers still!
"Does that sound good? We can sit in the warm sand together?"

(Softwing being oblivious and defensive about the tribe shipping her with Aspenfur and then making things worse by always going off alone with him ftw)

Sunpaw yawned, stretching out his feet. He felt refreshed after the nap by the cool water, and he sat up and groomed his face, running his paws over his whiskers. He waited patiently for his mentor to arise. No need to be impatient.

Gorsekit poked his head out of the nursery and was excited to see another cat heading over. It was always so boring just being by oneself. He padded out to meet the warrior. "Have you come to play, Currentfur?" He circled the other tom.

Sageheart roused from his sleep and stretched out, his jaws parting wide in a yawn. He blinked sleep from his eyes. Sunpaw was already up, which was a bit of a surprise. The large tom got to his paws and shook out his fur. "Ready to head back?"

Sunpaw shrugged noncommitally. "Yeah, I suppose so" he meowed, his eyes still half lidded from sleep. It wasn't that he didn't particularly like the idea of walking more, but being away from camp made him a bit uncomfortable. He liked the familiar terrain, and being away from home for so long had him feeling vunerable.
"Are we heading home now, or is there more to check?"

"Yea!" Gorsekit nodded. It would be a lie to say he always wanted to play, but he was in the mood now.

Sageheart shook his head. "No. This one should be fine. Of course, the tribe has more safe spots, but there's no use in visiting all of them. Storms rarely go past here." Slowly, he headed back up the sloping entrance. After waiting for Sunpaw, he replaced the bushes to cover the hole before heading back towards camp. "have any interesting dreams?"

Was it just twitching whiskers? Was there something they had to say? Certainly other cats weren't looking at them.

Perhaps Aspenfur hadn't groomed well enough and had fish scales in his fur- or a wild tuft... but Softwing would have probably told him if he did? Maybe? Or maybe she wouldn't tell him so he wouldn't be embarrassed? He quickly swipes a paw over his head, hoping to smooth any stray tufts before he stands.

"I...a race?"

They could fall and get a mouthful of sand..

The sand wouldn't be the worst place to fall.. they wouldn't be falling onto sharp rocks or into the hungry mouth of a shark or whale!

"...S..sure? Let's race..?"

Sageheart nodded. "Yes. Hopefully prey runs well on land. If the ocean had receded during leaf bare, then we would really be in trouble." The walk was easier since they didn't have to check herb patches and other spots along the way. "Hm..wonder if Talongrasp heard anything from the spirits." Or even Raggedwolf. But if the water was an issue, surely they would know. It could just be a one time thing.

"Not sure." Gorsekit pawed at the warrior's tail. "You pick?"

Softwing wiggled her haunches playfully "Okay! ONETWOTHREE GO!" She yowls, her tiny paws scuttling in the sand, kicking dirt up behind her. Her legs pumped out, somewhat clumsy but not terribly so. Her heart raced in her chest, enjoying the feel of her fur pushed back by the wind and the knowledge that Aspenfur was not far behind her.

Sageheart was talking about the water again. Right. Sunpaw had nearly forgotten that they were checking the older camps because of the unusual low tide. Hopefully the shore wouldn't be in too bad of shape when they got back... Sunpaw looked to the sky and tasted the air. There were no heavy stormclouds in the sky, nor an unusual taste in the air...
"Do you think Talongrasp needs to hear something from the spirits?" He meowed, probing Sageheart for an answer. If this was just a normal storm, why did they need the Tui to interpret it? Something seemed fishy to Sunpaw.

Softwing snorted, leaping forward and bracing against him as he fell, but rather than helping tumbled after him instead. The two rolled in a tangle of legs and sand, rolling down into the dunes a few fox lengths ahead. Once she had caught her breath, Softwing began to laugh, a raucous sound filled with snorts and wheezes.
"You almost had me, you big goof!" She meowed between laughs, and as her giggling died down she rolled over to face Aspenfur, sand trickling off her head and onto her nose. She sneezes once, wrinkling her face up and shaking out her fluffy coat.
"Oops!" She chirps, taking a few paces back "I'm sorry Aspenfur, I must've just shook out a denful of sand on you! My bad. Are you alright?"

Softwing's chest rumbles in a loud purr as Aspenfur circles her.
"I'm fine you big worry wart" she meows, an unfamiliar edge in her voice. Her ears flick, confused by her own speech. Was she feeling.. nervous? Softwing did a mental check one more time in her head... no, she didn't feel injured in any way. But the way Aspenfur circled around her protectively.. it made her feel self conscious in her sandy fur, peachy tufts sticking out all over the place. Weird.
"Uhh, well anyway! Let's get a move on. That place a little farther up looks good" she meowed, her normal chipper demeanor returning as she sorted herself out. "There's even some trees too, so we can sit in the shade if it gets too hot!"
