"What makes a student buy in to doing something the right way consistently?"
My answer was incentive. I gave the definition, what it was in a general sense, and what it does besides set a goal. But I'm going to need a little more than that. I need to impress my band teacher because it could get me a leadership position for next year's marching band season.

anxiety and the fear of failure tbh that's p much the only reason i did well in school.

Depends on the person. It could be anything from reward to embarrassment.
But as Sanders said, fear of failure is probably the biggest reason. Knowing that NOT doing well could ruin one's life is perhaps the biggest thing that drives people to succeed.
