In this role-play, muse a is the princess/prince of a kingdom, and it can be historical or completely fictional. Every three years since the soon-turning eighteen year old princess/prince had been born, the king and queen held a masquerade ball for their greatest treasure. On their eighteenth birthday they hold another, following suit from the years past; however, this one takes an unexpected turn for muse a. When muse a walks into the ballroom, muse a is announced, and so is muse a's new engagement to the prince/princess(muse of an ally kingdom. Muse a had no idea this was coming, but they have three dances with them, then goes off and dances with other people and chats with the nobles. After about an hour, one of the knights(muse c) comes in, dressed in his masquerade, and starts to dance with them. Little does he know it's the prince/princess, because he came in late and because of their mask. He soon starts to talk about his fondness for muse a, and muse a is truly shocked because they have known each other since they were children. muse c;; Wesley Arber, 19 years old, anormallife Wesley stands at about 5’9” and has a wider frame with muscular build. It had been three years since the last ball had been thrown in the High Prince's honor; three years since the High Prince had been found kissing a low-ranking lord on the terrace of his room. It almost made Adrastos nervous - almost. He wasn't one that was easily knocked to his knees, so to speak. The matter had adversely affected him when it had first occurred but now it was just a small bump in the road. It didn't quite matter to him but it did to others, so it wasn't brought up in court too much... at least not in front of him. No one would dare do such a thing in front of a man so important, so high in standing. He was the heir to throne and it was common knowledge that he didn't let any negative gossip about him or his family continue to circulate once it reached him.
No matter how much jewelry or finery the Gilded Court, the nobles of his country, wore, Adrastos wouldn't be impressed with them. He preferred simplicity over gaudiness and that was proved by his outfit choice for the ball. Instead of wearing the regal dress he was generally made to, he had picked a plain white shirt, dark green vest, black morning coat, and a gold pocket-watch. He had also kept his hair tied up, which was extremely informal of him. Even though he wasn't dressed in all the glitz and glamour, Adrastos was still showing off the colors of the royal house and his wealth.
Not all were impressed by his choice of clothing, though, and that was made apparent when he entered the ballroom and was announced. There were looks of distaste here and there, and there was his mother looking very nonplussed with him. Within a few moments of him entering, his father stood up and began to make an announcement.
"It is my pleasure to announce the joining of the Odreyan and Anosian thrones by the marriage of Adrastos to the Princess Royal Evelyn. Let us rejoice in not only the High Prince's birthday tonight, but also in his new engagement."

(It's alright ^^)
To say the very least Evelyn felt very out of place. She had been taken to the ally kingdom, gotten all dressed up and prepared for the High Prince’s ball, and she was told that she was to be engaged to him. Well the first two events weren't quite as strange as the third one, she would probably would have attended the ball whether she was engaged to the prince or not.
The engagement wasn't exactly her idea either. By what she had been told and what she had heard, she assumed that the engagement was a secret arrangement made by the two kingdoms to bring the kingdoms closer together and to finally have the eldest children of both kingdoms marry. She never really had a say over whom she was to marry, those decisions were made by the King and Queen and other members of the high court. She had seen a few suitors before but she guessed that none of them gave her kingdom such a big advantage like Prince Adrastos did. Maybe the engagement benefited both kingdoms, but either way Evelyn thought it was wrong for them to marry for power and status. Or maybe that theory of hers was wrong and the two were to betrothed because the two were the same age and the kingdoms were close allies. The sudden engagement just felt odd to her in some way and made her feel out of place.
Evelyn entered the ballroom once the engagement was announced and went to go stand by the prince. Other factors that contributed to fact that she felt out of place was that she barely knew the prince before her. She was sure he had met him before at other events such as this, but she didn't actually know him. Another thing was that she was much more extravagantly dressed than he was. She was in a light blue ball gown embellished with silver and white detailing with the skirt was nicely draped and layered. Her hair was kept down for the ball but it was pushed and pinned back away from her face so it would not fall into her face. Her outfit was not one she picked for herself, but an outfit she was just put into. She just felt very out of place.

![](http://i.imgur.com/R78poFg.png?3) Adrastos paled at the news of his engagement. He had never been told of this arrangement, probably because his father's advisers knew of how angered he would be by it. It was quite a smart decision to announce it at a ball, though, because they knew he would never act out in front of so large a crowd of foreign dignitaries and possibly influence their relationships with other kingdoms.
So instead of embarrassing his country by acting out with rage, Adrastos acted out with spite. Instead of going and spending the first dance of the night with Evelyn, he walked out into the crowd and bowed to one of his lady cousins, asking her for permission to dance with her instead. Of course she said yes because it's kind of hard to refuse the crown prince.
[ sorry this took so long ): o and in case you forgot it's a masquerade cause I forgot lmao ]

(It's totally fine :3 and I forgot too so it's okay.)
Evelyn stood beside the prince and waited for him to ask her to dance, but that didn't happen. And she watched as he made his way into the crowd and asked one of the other ladies in attendance to dance with him. So this was his way of acting out without causing any commotion. And if she was being honest she found it quite rude.
Even though he didn't exactly agree with the engagement they still were supposed to get married. She was supposed to be his first dance but he just left her waiting. So she just stood there, since the only thing she could really do was wait until the first dance was over.

![](http://i.imgur.com/R78poFg.png?3) It was a few more minutes before the dance ended and Adrastos was able to step away from his awkward cousin. Not that he didn't like her, she just managed to squash his feet more times than he though possible during the number. With a small yet elegant bow, he departed from the younger girl and headed into the crowd, where regular activities had resumed. Some guests were drinking and conversing, some were dancing, and others were just standing around. Unfortunately for Adrastos, his newly betrothed was one of the latter, meaning that he had to show some respect and take her for a dance.
Walking up with all of the grace of a lion stalking its prey, Adrastos let his face cool to the point where it looked like he would rather be anywhere else but at the masquerade - which was somewhat true. "Princess Royal, would you help me celebrate my birthday by honoring me with this dance?" he said in a voice that suggested he had once been forced to rehearse those exact lines.

Evelyn was only slightly watching the dance as she let her gaze wander though the crowd. Trying to keep her mind occupied as she waited. She was acquainted with most of the people at the ball, she realized as she recognized a few faces here and there, but there was some she didn't know at all. Living the sheltered life of a princess meant that she only met people her parents wanted her to meet so there was always people she didn't know.
Evelyn was too busy looking through the crowd to notice that the dance had ended, and continued to watch the crowd even as they went to participate in the activities of the ball. Then she noticed a figure walking towards her. Prince Adrastos. He still didn't look too happy about both the ball and probably the engagement. "Of course." she said to him a small smile forming on her lips as she spoke. She was trying to stay polite despite the Prince's attitude.

![](http://i.imgur.com/R78poFg.png?3) It was honestly a wonder that Adrastos had even gone up to Evelyn. In his perfect world he would have never even met her but even princes didn't get everything they wanted. So, with a bit of resignation, the blonde prince took his betrothed's hand and led her to the center of the dance floor. With a cue from the conductor the orchestra picked up a haunting tune. As they began their dance, Adrastos decided to finally take in what Evelyn looked like.
She certainly wasn't unsightly but she was missing something that Adrastos found very important. It was true that he liked men more than women and almost every royal court in the known world knew that, but he would still take women when it was needed. Deciding to be at least somewhat kind, he cleared his throat and said, "Your dress is... interesting, Princess Royal. The more simple clothes of Odreya would suit you better, though."
[ btw the song the orchestra is playing is Prokofiev's Dance of the Knights ]

Evelyn followed the prince onto the dance floor and started to dance with him when the music started. She followed his lead and was a much better dancer than his partner from earlier, since she was taught how to properly dance. Being a princess meant going to many balls and that also meant lots of dancing. So it was essential that she learned how to dance.
She looked up at Adrastos as they danced. He was an attractive young man, she would admit that, but she wouldn't have thought that she would be marrying him. "Well I didn't exactly get to pick my attire for the night. I was kind of thrown into it, so to speak. I would probably prefer something more simple, or at least something a little less... tight." The dress was a little tight and constricting in some areas, and her corset wasn't really helping that situation. She paused for a second then continued. "You don't need to use such fancy titles on me. You can just call me Evelyn or Eve." she added.
(I listened to the song, it's interesting.)

![](http://i.imgur.com/R78poFg.png?3) Adrastos focused his unsettling gray eyes on his dancing partner, trying to discern what exactly she was thinking about. Adrastos was skilled in reading faces and keeping his calm, as was necessary of the High Prince, and it was easy to tell that Evelyn wasn't enjoying his company. Fair enough, because he wasn't enjoying hers. He would much rather be in his study drafting treaties or reading reports from other countries. Anything besides this.
What he really desired, however, was to be lounging in his chalet a few miles away from the center of the court. He didn't care for all of this opulence that just had to be displayed for his birthday. But, he had to deal with it.
"Much less clothing is required for the Golden Horde to be impressed, I'm sure you'll find out."

“I'm sure I will.” Evelyn said and watched the Prince as she continued to dance with him. There was something about his eyes, the way he looked at her, it made her feel a bit uneasy. She didn't let the feeling get to her instead she continued their conversation.
“Are you not enjoying yourself Prince Adrastos?” she questioned. She wasn't exactly sure if she should be asking this sort of question but it was written all over his face that he wasn't exactly having the best time. As soon as he walked into the ballroom he just looked very unimpressed. He looked as if he would rather be anywhere but here and his mind was focused on other things. “You have this whole ball thrown in your honor, shouldn't you at least be enjoying yourself in the activities and merriment?” If she was having a ball thrown for her should would be trying to have some fun. You could say that this ball was sort of for her, well more for her engagement to the prince. She could be having fun if her dancing partner was too.
