Oh! Ok! Awesome! I guess the next challenge is to cut out the cat's face. I have no idea how to do this. Note: I do have Photoshop if needed.

so you know how I showed you how to use the layer mask? that's really useful in this case! if, when you add it, you click white (full opacity) and then go in with just a round, black brush (50 hardness works for me, but play around with it to see what works for you) you actually hide whatever you paint over. it's a great way to cut out shapes that aren't regular without it looking sharp.

Thank you~! You are brilliant! Do you know how to merge the two layers together?

no problem! yeah! just place them one over another (in case they aren't, you can't have any layers inbetween them) and right click on the upper layer, then click 'merge down'.

I thought that is the button! But wasn't sure... Anyway! Figured out a different way to do what I wanted!

oh yeah? would you mind sharing? I'd love to hear some other methods since I know mine aren't the only ones (or even the best in a lot of cases).

Since I wanted it shaped in the way of a brush, I used the same method that you taught me to do that. Then, I hid that original picture (which was of a beach in this case). I then brought out the cat picture I wanted and used the same method for mask that I had above, pasting the same brush. I un-hid the original image before anchoring the layer down. Then, I used the cut out method that you had above to erase the parts I didn't need. Basically, I just combined the help that you gave me so that I was still shaped the way I wanted it to be without knowing how to merge. But! As a bonus, I was able to use the drop shadow on the cat. It has a nice bit of depth to it now.

Hey, Ree! Do you know anything about coding? I figured if I was upgrading my banners and such, I needed to work on coding too.

first off - thanks for the explanation! how you did it makes a lot of sense, actually.
as for coding, i know a fair amount I'd say? I've been coding for like 3 years now? four, maybe. i don't remember. either way, i'd be happy to help you, but i should warn you that coding actually has a lot more to do with what you do and not so much how you do it. there are only so many tools you can use, it's all about how you use them really. there's only so much to show and then the rest is all about figuring out what you like to do. but with that out of the way, i'd be happy to help.

Yay! I'm glad that you understood what I said. I think I confused myself at one point.
Perfect! I really don't need anything extreme. I'm not very good with it. At least, I don't think I am. The last time I messed with coding someone did for me, I broke it. XD I like the simple stuff.

i like the simpler things too, at least if i know i'll be editing it a lot.
i'd love to help you, but would you mind if we went over it via pm? that's be easier for me so i don't lost track of what i'm doing, at least. if you'd rather stay here, though, that's fine too i suppose.

That's fine! If it works easier than that it is the best thing. I'll follow you!
