Nyeli sat in the coach, fighting to stay awake. They had been traveling for a while, and while she enjoyed going new places, the method to get there was horrible. She wasn't particuraly looking forward to meeting her new fiance, bit things were as they were and she could do little to change it. She had already tried, but her parents were relentless. She glanced up as her parent's announced they were there and a huge building loomed over them. It was very beautiful and was sure to match on the inside. She stepped out of the coach when it stopped, refusing the driver's hand.

Oliver Douglas ––
Oliver Douglas probably had more friends that he could count. It seemed like everywhere he went he could make friends with people with little problem. Maybe it was the carefree attitude of his, maybe it was his his joking personality. With the ladies it was definitely his looks. Maybe it was his number one rule (in all his dealings with the ladies): first, treat her like a person, then like a princess, then like a Greek goddess, then like a human again. With his suave and charming smiles, his advances were nearly fool proof.
Their trip to Hawaii had been no different this year than any other year they had gone. Oliver had been annoyed that they were going to Hawaii again for, like, the fifth year in a row. He had tried to get his parents to go somewhere fun (Italy! France! Ireland, come on Dad, please!) But his parents had adamantly said no. They had bought a timeshare to rent a beach house for a month each summer, and they still had one more year left. So, that was the first disappointment of the summer: Oliver had not gotten his way. So the boy had gone to Hawaii quite miserable, but things got better from there. They rented a beach house right off the crystal blue water in Maui. Each day started out the same. Oliver would go for a jog through the park, then he would come home and go swimming in the ocean (tease his sister in front of her friends), play some beach volleyball with his friends, eat lunch, go skateboarding, and all the while chat up girls that he met. This was a typical routine for the boy. Nights he would usually spend at a nightclub that allowed people under 21, and that was probably the best part of the entire trip. Well, until her the the girl who “changed” him. At first, to Oliver, she was just a small town girl. Girls like that are usually easily charmed, and he has them basically wrapped around his finger in an instant. This girl was the same.. but different. After he met her he stopped chatting up the other girls and (mostly) stopped going to the nightclubs. When he wasn’t with his other friends, he was definitely with her. He knew that she had fallen hard for him, but he just wasn’t sure if he felt the same. And those uncertainties did not appeal to Oliver, so when the time came and they finally had to part ways, he decided that she was simply just another girl from Hawaii, and she meant nothing to him. It’s not like he would ever see her again.
Going home was something of a relief for Oliver. He loved his home, truly. Santa Monica was the most gorgeous place. He lived in the neighborhood “North of Montana”, easily the richest neighborhood in in greater LA area, but he didn’t like to brag (hell, of course he liked to brag). Santa Monica High School was a great school. Oliver was astonished when his parents actually allowed him to switch out of his private school, but ever since freshman year, Oliver has made many amazing friends, and has had literally the best three (going on four) years of his life at this school. Needless to say, despite all the work, Oliver was excited to go back.
That is, until the first day. When his alarm blared at seven o’clock in the morning signaling his time to get up, and he just groaned. He pulled on a pair of jeans and a t shirt from ages ago, repping the time sophomore year he played baseball. He ran his fingers through his hair a few times, taming the unruly mess. His parents had a protein smoothie waiting for him downstairs for breakfast (gross, he’ll probably just stop at Starbucks on his way to school). He said good morning to his sister, 15-year old McKenna Douglas.
He didn’t stick around very long before pulling out of the driveway in his quite old and quite beat-up-looking Mustang. He used to have a BMW that his parents bough for him when he turned sixteen and got his license, but less than a year later he totaled the car (walking away with a broken arm that stopped him from playing sports all spring) and they refused to buy him something expensive again, so he ended up with a 2010 Ford Mustang, still a beautiful car, but nothing like his BMW. At least he can drive stick now.
He pulled into the school parking lot with his venti coffee (five creams five sugars, don’t judge him) and entered the school. Seeing his friends again wasn’t that “cool” for Oliver, I mean, they had been hanging out all summer, so it wasn’t as if he hadn’t seen them since the last school year ended. The warning bell was ringing right as Oliver entered the school. He checked his schedule, noting first period math. He groaned out loud, let his friends know where he was off to, and promised that they would meet up after school for a game of basketball at the beach court. He ducked into his first period class, and sat himself within another group of his friends. One of the girls (Alyssa.. her name was?) was extremely glad to see him, excitedly motioning for him to come sit next to her. He gave her an easy smile and plopped himself in his seat, throwing his empty backpack on the ground beside him. Three of his other friends began chatting with him, about the impending football season. Oliver was going to be the captain for his second year in a row. Last year, he had lead them to victory, he hoped to do the same this year.
He had yet to notice the one familiar face that was really going to throw him off guard.

@ Inky ;; a few character pour vous ~ i just wrote out a bit of their personalities and put in face claims because i'm lazy and don't feel like describing looks whoops
Madden Santos — a light-hearted boy who was always down to have a good time. He was never one who liked to plan out his life, and has always had a “go-with-the-flow” sort of attitude. When he left high school he went to the University of San Francisco to double major in psychology and sociology. He has a dream to work with the government and the police to help profile and interview criminals. He grew up in a small town, and had the work ethic and attitude that betrays this. Though he has had quite the rigorous schedule over the last few years, he has still maintained his laid back personality that he has always had. FC: Francisco Lachowski
Natalia Torres — Natalia is a small girl, but she has a large voice. She has always been a sweet girl, but she is never ever afraid to stand up for what she believes in. When high school ended, she stayed in the area and ended up staying with her high school sweetheart, and is now getting married to him. Ever since she was young, she always wanted to be a chef. Since she grew up in a small town, there was never many upscale restaurants in the area, so she commutes to a nearby city and is the head chef at a prestigious restaurant. Her wedding day is one of the most important days of her life. She’s been planning for this day for her entire life. As the wedding dates gets closer she’s become a bit of a “”bridezilla””, but she really just wants her wedding day to go perfectly. FC: Sara Sampaio

(They are great! here are mine Lyra King- Lyra is what someone could call a prankster, she loves to play pranks on people. She never means to hurt anyone, just in good fun. Lyra is that person that gets along with all kinds of people thanks to her usually happy demeanor. Her schooling is something very serious to her it is always her goal to get an A. In anything and everything. Her sense of humor involves a lot of sarcastic remarks and side comments, that and of course pranks. Over all she is a kind hearted girl. But her temper is a hot one. There are certain things that set her off, like danger to her loved ones. She has calmed down as far as pranking and such goes since becoming a mother, but she is still the same girl who jokes around with people, she is a dance teacher at a local dance studio but also works in her parents small antique shop. She has a few nervous habits, and tends to bit a bit of a nervous wreck if given the chance. FC: Deborah Ann Woll with curly hair Mae King- Mae is the cutest little girl you will ever meet. Often when meetin new people the four year old can be rather shy and hides behide what ever is closest. But once she likes you, thats it. You have her heart and she wont leave you alone. She has a very wide vocabulary for someone her age and often will talk your ear off. Mae is a big bundle of joy most of the time, till she gets tired then its all over and thats when she starts crying and getting upset. Over all she is a kind little girl with exellent manners and is very smart. FC:Alisa Bragina Emmet Zimmerman - He was the popular guy in school, the one that everyone was friends with. But for someone as typical jock as he was, he was a pretty nice guy. Emmet never stood for bullying or anything like that, in fact he was a big defender of people. That was why he was so popular. He is a very open person like his soon to be wife. But he also knows when to keep quiet and just drop his side and give in. He doesn't know really what personal space is and often with invade yours without a second though. Emm is veru trustworthy but there are time where his sealed lips unseal a bit. He runs a few of the local stores. FC: Nate Bateman

It had to be him. It had to be. Ellie just nodded at the girl beside her, her brown eyes still wandering to the boy surrounded by his group of friends. On the outside, she turned back to her notebook, doodling little designs in the corner. On the inside, she panicked. She didn't know what to do. Over summer, she'd fallen for this boy. Fallen hard. But here, he seemed to be the top of the pack. He seemed to be the it guy. And who was Elizabeth Miller? A nobody, that's who. Just some small town farm girl finishing her senior year in somewhere she didn't even belong. Ellie just put her head down on her notebook, mentally groaning. Her first thought when she spotted Oliver was that this move did have a silver lining. But now? Now she could see that he was out of her league. Major out of her league. He probably didn't even remember her. It made her wonder if he ever did care about her in the way she did to him. Or was she just another girl form Hawaii? One that he'd forget about when he saw the next girl walking down the street? Any thought she had had about approaching the boy was now gone, as she watched him from afar.
"Hey, you doing alright, Smiles?" The girl sitting next to her asked, patting Ellie's back. Ellie lifted her head up and looked at the girl, figuring that would answer her question. Despite her inner turmoil, Ellie began talking to the girl as they waited for the bell to ring. Ok, maybe the people here weren't as stuck up as she had expected. At least not all of them. Though she hadn't spoken to them, Oliver and his group of friends looked like the popular, stuck up group in any cliché teenage movie. But, hey, she didn't need to think about Oliver yet. She attempted to push the high school boy into the back of her mind, replacing him with thoughts of two elementary school boys. How were the twins? Hopefully their first day was better than hers. Did Jordy have all his supplies? She knew the younger twin was forgetful, even though Joshy looked out for him. Man, she really needed to stop being a mama bear to her younger brothers. They were ten already. Practically adults, at least that's what Josh claimed.
"Welcome to a great year of numbers!" A deep voice broke Ellie out of her thoughts. The bell had rung and a middle aged man began passing out papers, scratching his balding head as he looked around for any students he recognized. A few, obviously, but his eyes stuck on Ellie. "Ah, the new girl. A senior from, ah, Mississippi was it? No, Minnesota," he corrected himself before Ellie could step in. Honestly though, her shyness probably would've prevented her from doing that, allowing everyone to believe she was from Mississippi. Either way, she wasn't sure she wanted Oliver to notice her. "Well, Elizabeth, is it?" He continued without waiting for a response from the girl. "Well, Elizabeth, I hope you enjoy our quaint little school," he said, giving her the largest smile a man could muster. Little? It was ten times the size of her old school and that made her wonder what he would classify her school as if this was 'little'. "And I hope the rest of you welcome her into your senior class with open arms," the twinkle in the man's eyes showed that his intentions were pure, but Ellie sunk low in her seat, face bright red, as she felt twenty pairs of eyes boring into her. And knowing that Oliver most likely possessed one of them, she avoided looking at that corner and instead stared straight ahead. The teacher gave her one last smile as he continued up the row, passing out a syllabus printed on bright pink paper. He introduced himself and the class, listing expectations and rules. Y'know, all that boring first day of school. About ten minutes into first period came the interesting part. The part that Ellie dreaded. The part hat made the girl wish she would throw up so she'd have an excuse to go home and never see this building again.
"I've paired all of you up with another student that I hope you don't know. We're going to do a little get to know you activity. An icebreaker. So that we can be a team this year. Because teamwork makes the dream work, and I want all of you to leave my class and achieve whatever dreams it is that you dream of," the teacher said, smiling brightly at the entire class. Well, this guy sure was passionate. Was that a good thing or a bad thing? Ellie still hadn't decided. He went through class listing off pairs. "Michael and Emma. James and Pete. Elizabeth and Oliver..." He continued to list off pairs, but Ellie was no longer listening. Any hope she had in her mind for today to go well was now gone. She had hoped to avoid Oliver as long as possible, at least to figure out what was going on, who he was, and how she felt about him. Sure, she had fallen for him in Hawaii, but was Hawaii Oliver the same as this Oliver? Looks like she was about to find out. The class dispersed into pairs, reconnecting with old classmates and getting to know each other better. Maybe it was just her grim outlook on this activity, but everyone else seemed to enjoy it.
She stood up from her seat and turned to where Oliver had been seated with his friends. Seeing his face brought back so many wonderful memories. Sitting out on the beach late at night. Swimming for hours before grabbing a bite to eat. Watching the sunsets. Her first kiss as the sun sank into the ocean behind them. It had been like a scene from a movie. Him and the beach had been the highlight of her time. Her time had been split nearly evenly between her brothers and the boy she'd met on the beach one early morning. He had made her feel special in a way that nobody else had before, but now she didn't know how to feel about the handsome young man she was about to talk to. Her face still slightly pink after being called out by the teacher, Ellie took a deep breath and approached Oliver. All the other pairs had begun to get to know one another better. Ellie finally had a chance to see if this really was the boy she had fallen in love with.
(These two are gonna be fun)

Oliver Douglas ––
This day was starting off like any other. He still felt like he was in his junior year, goofing off with his friends, tugging on the pretty girls’ ponytails, and generally not caring about grades, or colleges, or what his parents wanted. It was hard for Oli to remember that this was his senior year. His final year to clean up his act before heading off into the so-called “real world”. Was he going to be one of those people who peaked in high school? Oliver sure hoped not. Oliver was hardly listening when Professor Adamson began his spiel. The same one he did almost every year. “Welcome to a great year of numbers!” Honestly, could he get anymore cheesy? But that was part of his appeal, I guess. The professor began by introducing the newest student to the school. Poor girl, having to switch schools in her senior year, and coming from middle on nowhere Minnesota! Oli almost felt sorry for her. That is, until the professor said her name, and Oliver’s head snapped around in recognition to stare down the girl that he knew he had seen before.
“Woah, dude, chill out; you okay?” one of his friends asked, noticing the sudden strangeness in Oliver’s mannerisms. He took a deep breath and turned away from the girl and back at Jackson (Jax for short, usually). Oliver put on an easy smile, pretending that his heart wasn't racing a mile a minute and answered, “Yeah, dude, I’m fine,” before trying to forget that two very distinct and very binary worlds of his were currently in the process of colliding. Sure, Ellie was a great way to pass the time in Hawaii, but did he want here in his home life? His home life that was literally currently perfect to him. No commitments, or anything like that. Oh god, what if she wanted to date him? What if she thinks they’re going to get back together? He shook his head to clear it, deciding that he shouldn’t be having all these absurd thoughts before even talking with her. Maybe she wants nothing to do with him. Maybe that would be for the best.
Jax hit his shoulder, snapping him from his thoughts, “Dude, you’re paired with the new chick for the icebreaker,” he laughed, before sauntering away from Oliver with Alyssa (Jax’s partner) with his hand “oh-so smoothly” placed in her back pocket. Oliver rolled his eyes at his two friends before taking a quick deep breath, preparing himself for the ensuing awkwardness. Typically, Oliver was good with words. Typically, Oliver didn’t get himself into awkward situations because he was usually good at talking himself out of anything. Parking tickets, traffic violations, public intoxication; he had been there, but his record would show no signs of it because he never got charged with anything. That’s just the kind of family he was raised in, and the kind of man he grew up to be.
Oliver stood from his seat, running his fingers through his hair (a nervous habit of his, not that anyone would know) and placed a charming smile on his face before walking over to Ellie. He smiled at her, and looked at her for a moment, remembering all the good times they had over the summer, “Hi,” he said softly, before wrapping his arms around her in a quick embrace. It felt good to have her back in his arms, but he still wasn’t certain if he was ready for any sort of relationship.
“It looks like Mr. Douglas is already getting himself well acquainted with our new student!” Professor Adamson teased. Everyone knew that Oli had a way with the girls around school. Oliver could understand how his actions, though they make sense in context, seem out of place in a setting where he is supposedly just getting to know Elizabeth. Oliver grinned at the professor and shot back, “Well, professor, it’s better to get it out of the way now than to do it during lessons.” The whole class had a good laugh out of that one.
Oliver pulled up a chair and plopped himself in it, trying to pretend like seeing her there wasn’t a super big deal, “So, I wasn’t listening; how does this game work?” He asked Ellie, hoping to avoid an awkward and difficult conversation.
{{ eeee, I know I have so much muse for this roleplay tf o.o }}

Calista Pavlis ––
Calista stood and waited patiently as the coach rolled to a stop in the middle of the courtyard. She stole a quick glance towards her brother, noting how Prince Reuben looked very dashing and very regal in his maroon velvet doublet. She could see from the muffled smile on his face that he was quite excited to meet his future queen. Seeing her brother so excited got Calista feeling quite excited as well. She also made note of Casimir, Reuben’s squire. The tall, well-muscled and quite handsome fellow was almost never seen with a straight face, and this moment was no exception. He stood, trying to look as professional as possible, but something about him just screamed immaturity. Calista wondered if it was because he was French. She had heard that the french were… quite odd.
Trumpeters announced the arrival of the princess and her family, a man calling for them to all hail Princess Nyeli. Calista watched with baited breath as the other princess stepped down from the cart, refusing the help of the driver. Calista made a mental note of that, curious about this princess who seemed like a very different princess from herself. Not in a bad way, of course, but an interesting way. Calista was looking forward to meeting this princess, but she allowed her brother to step forward first (duh, she was his princess, after all). Prince Reuben stepped toward his future bride, very dutifully, and bowed deeply before her, just as he had been taught to do. He came up from his bow, took her hand gently in his and brushed his lips across her knuckles in the appropriate fashion, “My princess,” he said, voice deep, sounding very official (Calista was quite impressed), “Welcome to Greece.”

She had avoided catching his gaze as long as possible. It's not that Ellie didn't like Oliver, or want to see him, she just didn't know what to expect when he came over to her. His actions were unexpected, but welcomed. It felt so good when she found herself back in his arms, but the embrace was over much too quickly. She knew how odd that must look to his classmates, but it gave Ellie some kind of reassurance. Yes, this really was the same Oliver. Yes, he remembered her. No, he didn't hate her or want to pretend like he didn't know her. But that still wasn't enough answers to satisfy the girl. Ellie looked at him, unsure of what to say. She was saved from having to say anything when the teacher made a comment about Oliver's actions, not that that was much better than standing there with nothing to say. She heard the class laugh around her before she sat down across from Oliver. She wasn't normally this shy, especially around her friends or people she knew well, but her first day in a new school, a new town, a new class threw her off. And seeing Oliver didn't make it any easier for her to clear her mind and regain her composure.
"I don't know. I guess we're just supposed to talk. Get to know each other..." Ellie said with a small laugh, unsure of how to continue. She wished she could have the same cool confidence as Oli. She wished she could get herself away from the awkwardness. For once, she was lost on what to say and she just wished she could find the right words. This was a lot more awkward and a lot less fun than the reunion she'd hoped for. Talking to him had become so easy over the course of their vacation, but now she had no idea what to say to the boy that she never thought she'd see again. The noise in the room got louder and louder, making it less likely that anyone would overhear their conversation. Based on the few things she saw today, she wasn't sure Oliver was excited to let the whole world know about the relationship the two of them had had.
She knew a few things she could tell Oliver, stuff he didn't know. Like that she hadn't known she was moving to the same city as him until after their vacation. Like she struggled in math, but was great in English. She could admit to him that she didn't want to be here, she wanted to be home, where she belonged. She could admit that seeing him was the only silver lining she'd seen since the move across the country, but she didn't know which words to use. If she tried to say something, nothing would come out. It was like, in the month or so since they'd last seen each other, they had become strangers, and you couldn't just spill your guts out to strangers. She couldn't tell him how much she had missed him. She couldn't tell him about the mix of excitement and apprehension when she had first recognized his face among the sea of students. She wasn't sure if she could tell him how she really felt, and especially not here. Maybe if they met sometime after school they could straighten everything out. Decide how they want to play this. Get together? Pretend the other person doesn't exist? Become friends? There were so many routes which this could take, and Ellie couldn't say any of that to him.
She could initiate small talk. Ask him how his day was, how his sister was. She could ask him about his friends, or which sports he was planning on playing this year. She could comment on the weather, tell him it was too hot here for a northern born girl. She could tell him how different this place was than her hometown, joke about how she didn't know if that was a good thing or a bad thing. She could ask about his schedule or his favorite classes or what kind of car he drove. There were so many questions she could ask about his life here, or details she could tell him about her that they hadn't discussed during their short time in Hawaii, but those questions didn't feel right either. Not after she lost him once and never thought she'd be sitting in front of him again like she was now. But she was. She was sitting across from Oliver, but she had no clue what to say or where to start or how to feel. All she knew is that it made her feel awkward and uncertain of herself, her thoughts, her words, and her actions.
Ellie wasn't naïve enough to believe that they could just pick up where they left off. She didn't believe that Oliver would immediately welcome her back into his life, especially with the high tension and social dynamics of high school. He was the it guy, and she was a nobody. It may work out fine in movies, but Ellie doubted it would work out in real life, even though she wished it would. This would all be a lot easier if she already knew what Oliver thought. She could make a guess, but the boy had surprised her many times, and she figured a situation like this would be another time that he surprised her, she just wasn't sure if it'd be a good surprise or a bad surprise.
"It's been a long time," she said with a nervous laugh. "I missed you," she said. The last part was quiet, unable to be heard by any in the deafening room except for Oliver. It had just come out of nowhere. She hadn't planned on saying it, but she watched Oliver closely for his reaction, even a subtle change in facial expression. She didn't want him to think she expected them to pick up where they left off. She still wasn't even sure how she should feel around him, even though just a few days ago, she would have said she wanted to see Oliver Douglas more than anyone else. Without waiting for a response from him, Ellie covered her face, which was once again red.
"I'm sorry. I just... There's so much going on. I don't know what to think about anything," she muttered, raising her head to look at him once again. And it was true. Being ripped from her home and moved across the country really threw you off. She'd only had a day or two to settle in before school started, and she was worried her senior year was gonna be a huge bummer. Not that Oliver needed to know all of that. She missed the lighthearted bantering that had become so natural for the two of them in Hawaii, but none of this came natural to her at the moment. Half of her hoped Oliver would admit he had missed her too and continued on that conversation, while the other half hoped he was change the subject and focus nothing. Subjects with no real meaning. The kind of stuff you would talk about when there's nothing left to talk about.

Nyeli smiled as the prince kissed her hand. When he let go, she curtysed as she had been taught. "Thank you," She responded, catching her butler staring. Sebastian had been serving the family for years, and obvisouly had to come. She wondered if he would get along with the others, as he wouldn't be the boss of the servants this time. She watched as her parents stepped forward to greet the current king and queen of Greece. Her eyes scanned all of the other staff and then hers. Sebastian was standing up straight, and almost looked robotic. He had been told to not do anything until one of the other staff approached him and she supposed it made sense, although the territorial thing never wrapped around her mind. After all, a house was just a house, but to the staff it seemed something more. (Sorry I'm not matching your post lengths ^^" I'm not good at being descriptive, so I'm sorry.)

Oliver Douglas ––
Oliver was.. conflicted to say the least. He usually wasn’t at a loss for words, but Ellie made him into someone different, and he wasn’t sure if he liked that person or not. So here he was, sitting across from a girl he thought he would never in his life see again, expected to hold a conversation and “get to know” a girl that he already knows. Was the world trying to play a joke on him? Oliver wanted to laugh. What are the odds, right? What are the odds that this girl moved halfway across the country, and just happened to be sitting in his first period math class. Oliver has never been a math genius, but he knew that those odds were pretty slim. The two stared at each other for a long time, both wracking their brains for something to say to the other. How do you start this conversation? Oliver sure as hell didn’t know, and it seems to him like Ellie didn’t know either. So for a few moments they sat in a silence that wasn’t really silent and he wondered if this was all a messed up dream.
Oliver wondered why this conversation just had to happen at eight o’clock in the morning, when his mind was still fuzzy from sleep, and he didn’t even know if this situation was real or not. Was he going to wake up in five minutes at the sound of his alarm going off, to start a new, normal day of school? He doubted it.
Oliver was a bit caught off guard when she said that she missed him, though he knew that he shouldn’t be. A small smirk crossed his face, ‘pfft, of course she missed me,’ he thought, ‘who wouldn’t miss me?’ He tried to keep his face as straight as possible though. And he wondered: did he miss her too? Of course he missed her, sure, she was great! But did he want her invading his personal life? That was something he had never prepared for with any of his Hawaiian fling girls, but that was a situation that needed to be assessed… now. Sure, that shouldn’t be something that Oliver worried about. But he knew that there was something a little different about Ellie, compared to the girls he usually gets into it with. They were usually the popular ones, the ones who didn’t mind a casual thing here and there. Oliver, though it’s hard to believe, has never been in an actual relationship. Well, unless you count Delia Greenwood in seventh grade, but that only lasted a week. Delia ended the “relationship” when she caught Oli kissing Samantha Brown by the basketball court at recess one day. Honestly, ever since then Oli knew that he wasn’t the kind of person who could be tied down by a relationship. And he really really didn’t want Ellie to have to figure that out the hard way.
Oliver grabbed her hand, gently, but almost urgently. He didn’t mean for it to be like that, but that’s just how his brain was working at the moment. He didn’t say “I miss you too”, he didn’t say anything that would have been the probable right thing to say in this moment. He gave her a soft smile, hoping to encourage her to stop being so.. embarrassed by this, “Hey,” he said softly, encouragingly. He forced himself to look Ellie directly in her eyes, “Hey, we’re cool,” he said, not really sure if what he was saying was actually making sense, “Why don’t.. Why don’t we meet later. To talk? I don’t.. I just can’t right now, alright?” He didn’t want to say “I don’t want to right now” which is where he was heading. It was true, he didn’t want to right now, but she probably didn’t either. Time was almost up for this stupid icebreaker activity anyways. They had sat in silence for longer than Oli had realized.
Professor Adamson was about to call time. Oliver stood up from the chair he had occupied, and looked down at Ellie, “There’s a café on Main Street, meet me there at seven tonight, okay?” He didn’t wait for her reply before turning around and heading back to his seat. Yes, she was Ellie, and yes, they had history, but that wasn’t something that he needed people to know about. Not yet, anyways, and maybe not ever. He plopped himself back into his seat (the one on the opposite side of the room from Ellie) and forced himself to forget about her. At least for now anyways. He spent the rest of the class joking around with Jax and Alyssa, trying to banish Ellie from his mind.
The rest of the day passed smoothly. He had one other class with Ellie (chemistry) but he didn’t even glance her way the entire class. Three of his best friends were in the class with him as well, making it easy to forget that she was in the room with him. The day ended, Oliver played basketball with his friends for hours after school, finding the physical exertion a good way of forgetting about his troubles. Dinnertime came, and McKenna talked excitedly about her first day of school, letting Oliver sit off to the side, and not really having to say much throughout the meal. He wasn’t really in the mood. 6:45 rolled around, and Oliver grabbed his keys. He wasn’t sure if Ellie was actually going to meet him there or not; for all he knew she could be pissed at him for ignoring him, but he was going to go and wait for her anyways. He knew that he didn’t want to have this conversation, but he also knew that it was a conversation that needed to be had. Having a day to mull things over had done Oliver some good, and he was ready to talk.

The way Oliver had grabbed her hand had comforted Ellie. She still didn't know what was in the future. She didn't know how he felt about her, but just the physical contact was reassuring. It proved that he was real. He was here. It wasn't just some random guy she had gotten confused with Oli. It was really him. She didn't say anything else during their icebreaker activity. She just watched as he returned to his seat and continued joking around with his friends. Part of her thought she should feel bitter that Oliver wanted to keep a secret, but the majority of her didn't blame him. He clearly had an image to uphold, maybe even a girlfriend, and she wasn't part of it. She didn't blame him, and part of that was because she wasn't sure she wanted people to know either. She's seen how jealous teenage girls could be, and didn't want to be the target of their aggression in a school where she had no one to back her up. Ellie just slid down into her seat, staring ahead for the rest of the class. She wasn't paying attention, but knew he wouldn't be teaching anything important during the first day.
The rest of the day went by in a blur as Ellie learned her way around the large school, only getting lost once or twice. The kids in her classes were nice and she had made a few friends by the time chemistry rolled around. She had spotted Oliver right away, but paid no attention to him as waited for the class to start. She noticed he had been goofing off with his friends the entire time, and it was a relief to know that they wouldn't have to go through another awkward get to know you session. And, luckily, this teacher didn't call her out in the middle of class like the math teacher had. Once chemistry was over, the rest of the day was easy. She got along with her teachers and classmates and didn't see Oliver often. She passed him in the halls once in a while, but just said nothing as she continued on to her locker or class. He second the bell rang, she was one of the first out to her bright green Jeep. She threw her bag into the back and started it up, hoping to beat most of the traffic. Not that that was very likely when there were twenty other cars heading for the same exit as her. She went straight to the elementary school, glad the parking lot was mostly clear as parents had already grabbed their children. Jordy and Josh stood on the sidewalk, waiting for their sister to pick them up.
"C'mon, brats," Ellie said, putting the car in park. She forced a smile to her face and wiped away every thought of Oliver for her brothers. She knew that her brothers loved him. They had looked up to him back in Hawaii and were almost as upset as Ellie when she and Oliver had to go their separate ways. She knew the boys would freak out if she told them that Oliver went to the same school, so she made sure not to drop any hints and get their hopes up of being reunited with them. She was silent for the drive home as the boys chattered on and on about their day and their classes and their new friends and their teacher and recess. Jordy was also positive that the school food here was better than the food back in Minnesota. Ellie had to disagree with that. They jumped out of the car before it stopped moving and went in to tell their mother about their day. Ellie turned off the car and followed more slowly, tossing her bag onto the table.
"What about you, El? Did you have a good day too?" She asked. Ellie shrugged. Sure, except for the Oliver drama, it had been a decent day. Not that she was going to admit that she had a very surprising and dramatic day. "Well, I got into contact with the stable that Oscar recommended. I set up a tour in ten minutes if you wanna check it out," her mom offered. She did need to find another barn, though she doubted she'd find an instructor like Oscar. Or a lease like Diesel. She went along anyway, and knew she made a good choice. The familiar smell of horses and leather relaxed her, chasing out any thoughts of Oliver. The rhythmic sound of a horse cantering in the nearby arena served as a good background noise as her mother and her talked to the barn owner, a good friend of Oscar's. She couldn't be much happier as the man brought her on a tour, showing her the multiple arenas, stalls, tack rooms, viewing lounges, and the kitchen. All tension melted away as she stroke a large paint. The horse nuzzled her pockets, reminding her of Diesel, reminding her of home. Now, more than ever, Ellie wanted to be home. She wanted be working at the market, riding Diesel, talking to Sarah as her friend shared her big city dreams for the future. Here she was no one, and the one connection she had may no longer be a connection. They had both expected it to be just a summer thing. Ellie hadn't wanted it to be, but she knew it couldn't last longer than that.
By the time they had decided this was the place and set up an evaluation lesson for the next day, the time was 6:30. It was almost seven by the time Ellie had changed it slightly nicer clothes, leaving the dingy horse smelling jods and shirt behind. She pulled into the parking lot of the cafe at 7:03, hoping Oliver had stayed and waited. Any good feelings from the day were gone as Ellie entered the building, feeling as though she was going to puke. She didn't want to be here. She didn't want to have this conversation. Part of her didn't even want to see Oliver, but she knew she must. She knew, as much as she hated to admit it, that she still had feelings for him. Ellie ordered a small smoothie, taking it and looking around. She spotted him alone at a table and went over, sitting down across from him. Her smoothie sat, untouched, in front of her as she waited for Oliver to make the first move, start the conversation.
Now that she was here, sitting across from him once again, the girl noticed all the small details she had missed this morning. The things that she had fallen for back in Hawaii. Shen doubted her relationship with Oliver would ever be the same, but it also made her worry. If things between her and the most popular guy in school were awkward and tense, Ellie doubted she'd be able to gain any sort of social standing. Then, as soon as she finished senior year, she'd be on a plane heading back home. But if she brought him back into her life, even just as a friend, maybe things would begin to look up. But if he did want to be friends, nothing more, nothing less, Ellie didn't know if she could do it. Could she really go back to being just friends with a guy like Oliver? She shook her head, trying to clear out any worries or misgivings, just focusing on the hope as she sipped her smoothie, waiting for him to begin the conversation.
(Never mind I don't anymore)

Calista Pavlis –– The princess watched on as the events unfolded. She knew that she had no real reason to be here, just for looks. It would be rude not have the entire royal family down to greet their other royal guests. She had spent over an hour this morning getting all prettied up.. to stand there and be ignored. She had to remind herself that this was her brother’s day. It was her brother’s day to meet his bride, to commiserate with their family. Really, Calista had absolutely nothing to do with this. So she just watched on, her eyes mostly trained on the small princess, still intrigued and anxious to meet her, even though she knew that she had to wait.
She followed silently as the King and Queen lead their guests into the castle, towards the dining hall for a well-prepared luncheon feast. Calista was probably the most excited for this. Calista loved good food, to be honest, that’s why she was always keen on having guests around. Prince Reuben and Princess Nyeli was sat at the honorary head of the table. Calista ensured that she got the seat near Nyeli. She was excited to have another girl of her status around to talk with. She usually just gossiped with the handmaiden’s, but they didn’t like to share their secrets with her. Though Calista was well-trusted and was always good to keep a secret, her servants realized that she was still a superior, and gossiping with her was wrong. “Welcome to our kingdom!” Calista whispered excitedly when she seat next to Nyeli, “How was your trip?” she asked politely.

"Mommy! Wake up!" The small but very loud voice of the young girl came from right by Lyra's ear and the bed shook as Mae pushed against it with her knees and the palms of her hands. "Its ten clock!" The voice came again, but this time Lyra sat up in bed. Slowly of course to give the young girl time to move out of the way. "Its ten?!" Lyra said rubbing the sleep from her eyes. She had to open the shop today in like fifteen minutes. The red haired woman picked up Mae and gave her a big kiss on the forehead. "Did Aunty already make you some food?" She asked, her younger sister had come to visit her and usually was up before Lyra was. Mae nodded and smiled at her mother. "Yeah! I had egg, and toasts!" She said with a giggle. She knew a lot of words but didn't always string them together correctly, but she was on her way to good sentences. "Okay sweetie go run to Aunty, Mommy has to get ready." She said setting the little girl down and patting her behind as she started to race off giggling as she went.
It didn't take too long for her to get ready, plus Crystal, her sister, had made her some breakfast. That girl knew her too well. It was wrapped in a tortilla too so she could take it downstairs the the shop. Lyra went down grinned at her sister and Mae who were playing happily and having fun quite loudly in the middle of the shop. Most people came in to see Mae, and then they would buy things sometimes. She walked passed the two and when outside to unlock the door, struggling a bit with the key but after a minute or so she got it open and flipped the open sign around.
Today was one of the practices for her best friends wedding. They of course had more than one mostly for the children in the ceremony. Like Mae who was the flower girl. Lyra was the Maid of Honor so it was her job to make sure everything went smoothly, for the most part she had gotten everything taken care of, the wedding was about a week away at this point. So it wouldn't be too long till Nat was over the bridezilla thing she had going on. Inside though the blue eyed woman was freaking out. He was coming back for the wedding. Well, it was only natural after all he was the grooms best friend. She didn't know if he was the best man or not but that would be even more stressful. That meant they would really have to interact. And what about Mae? No one minus the bride, groom and her sister knew who Mae's father was. Of course there had been plenty of rumors, some involved Madden and her, some involved other boys in highschool. But she brushed them all aside and just smiled and said Mae was her daughter and that was all that mattered. But she would have to tell her some day, and she would have to tell him at some point. Plus the little girl had started asking who her dad was, after all the other kids at her daycare had dads but Mae only had a mom.
Her thinking had distracted her and she snapped out of her thoughts hearing the ringing of the bell that was on the counter. She popped up, since she had been leaning against the counter her head in her hand staring out the door.
"Are you alright Lyra?" The familiar voice of Betty drifted to her ears and Lyra smiled happily at the elderly woman.
"Oh I'm fine, just thinking is all." She paused noticing she had picked up a few things, "Do you need me to ring you up?" She asked softly.
"Oh yes , if you could deary." The old woman replied gently. So Lyra did just that she scanned her items and took the womans money and she left with a smile and a gave Mae a candy on her way out.
"Mommy can I eat now!?" Mae said holding up the small hard candy. Lyra nodded and smiled gently at her daughter. She was her biggest joy in life, the thing she was proudest of.

Oliver Douglas ––
Oliver pulled into the parking lot of the cafe, killed the engine on his car. He put the top up on his car (it looked like it might rain, and Oli would be damned if he ruined the interior of this car) before walking into the cafe. It was a small, family run business. The daughter of the owner was playing barista tonight. Oliver knew her, and she knew him as well, bouncing up and down excitedly when he walked through the door, “Oli, it’s so good to see you!” she halfway squealed when he walked up to the counter to order. He quickly scanned the room to see if Ellie was here. Not yet.
He focused his attention back on the barista, “Hey Katie, it’s good to see you too,” he replied with one of his signature smirks, “I’ll just have my usual, please.” His eyes were more focused on the door, waiting to see if Ellie would actually show up. He decided he’d hang out here for about an hour. If she showed up, great. If not, well, maybe he could convince Katie to cut work early. The night was full of possibilities.
“Sure thing!” she chirped, “A large iced latte with a double shot of espresso and a slice of coffee cake,” she repeated back to him, ensuring the order was correct. Oliver nodded his head absentmindedly, not really paying attention to Katie, “So.. are you here alone?” the barista asked, leaning forward over the counter in a sultry sort of way.
“Waiting for someone actually,” he explained. Katie slumped a little bit at that and pouted at him, “But I’m not sure if she’s going to show.”
“Well, if she doesn’t.. you know where to find me,” Katie said with a wink, smiling at that statement, “Annnnnnd that will be $6.37,” she said. Oliver handed her his credit card and pushed a $20 bill into the tips jar. Katie slid his coffee cake and latte across the counter. Oliver thanked her with another glowing smile and headed off to an open table that had a direct sight line to the door. Seven o’clock rolled around and Ellie still hadn’t shown up yet. Oliver was starting to get nervous. Maybe it was better this way? God, Oli didn’t know. His relationships have always been so simple, so straightforward. He has always been content with someone who is just looking to mess around for a while. He knew that Ellie wasn’t that kind of person. Problem was, that is the kind of person that Oliver is.
He took a bite from his coffee cake (honestly, best thing in the entire world; it’s Oliver’s #1 guilty pleasure) and a long swig from his latte (he was going to be up late tonight). 7:05 Ellie walked in. Oliver held his breath as he watched her order. When she finished, he quickly pulled out his phone, pretending that he hadn’t been watching her, and that he hadn’t even noticed her come in. He gave her a bright smile as she sat down. Oliver tried so hard to read her face, but he honestly couldn’t tell what she was thinking. He desperately wanted to be able to pick her mind. To know what she thought about him, about being here, about everything. He figured that’s why he had her meet him here in the first place. He can’t read her mind, so why not just ask her flat out.
“What are you doing here?” he blurted out. Not even a greeting or anything. Straight to the point. Ah yes, Oliver, quite the ladies man indeed. His voice didn’t mean to sound like it was edging on annoyance, “I mean, not like here like at the cafe because I know why you’re here,” he backtracked and stumbled over his words for a few moments, “I mean here, as in Santa Monica. Why are you here?” he waved his arms around a bit, not sure if he was helping to get the point across or not. God, he was such an idiot. This was going well.
{{ I honestly cannot decide if I love Oliver or if I hate him lmfao }}

Madden Santos ––
Madden stepped off the plane into the airport. He had grown up in such a small town that the town didn't even have it's own airport, and he had to get off at the airport in the nearby city, purchase a rental car, and use that for the weekend. He had been saving money for months to be able to make it to this wedding. Living in San Francisco was not easy, especially considering he had just started getting billed for student loans. The six month grace period had ended, and Madden was struggling, but he was doing well enough to save up money to make it to the wedding. It was his best friend's wedding, after all, and on top of that, Madden was the best man. There was no way he was going to miss the wedding and let down his best friend all at the same time. Madden had become a city boy extraordinaire after spending the last four years in San Francisco. He loved that he grew up in a small town, sure, but he hated coming back now. The city was so convenient. Everything was right there, hell, he walked to work every day. And now he had to get back into the swing of driving around, and not being able to get delivery pancakes at 3 am. What a shame.
He was excited to see everyone again. Madden had been living in the city for four years straight now, and he hasn't seen any of his childhood best friends since he was 18 years old. 22, now, carrying a stable job at the police department, Madden felt good about his life. He was looking forward to seeing everyone again. Emmet, Natalia.. Lyra. All of his good friends. If he was honest, he was a little nervous about seeing Lyra. Their relationship hadn't ended on the best of notes, and they haven't spoken since he left to college. Madden had heard a rumor that she had a kid now. He wondered if that was true or not. After all, small towns did tend to generate a lot of pointless gossip. He had asked Emmet about it once, but never got a straight answer out of him. Madden dropped the subject after that, realizing that it seemed like quite the touchy one. He left the airport, took an uber to the rental car place, purchased his car and started the forty five minute drive back to his home town. Madden couldn't deny that he was nervous. But he was looking forward to this too.
The drive back was long. He stopped in at the tailors and picked up the tuxedo that Emmet had taken care of for him. He wanted to stop in at Natalia's and Emmet's place to visit them, but he decided against it. Tonight was the first practice dinner and Madden knew better than to disturb Natalia. Emmet had told him that she had been getting stressed and angry as the big day approaches. That was not something that Madden wanted to deal with today. Instead he shot Emmet a text: I'm in town, don't wanna disturb y'all today. Where can I find Lyra? He checked himself into the hotel that he was staying at for the time being, a small hotel, but he knew that it was run by good people, so he wasn't too worried. He waited for the response from Emmet, knowing that considering how Natalia had been acting recently, the response may take a little while to come back to him.

Well, not exactly the greeting Ellie had been expecting. What are you doing here? Smooth. "Well, you told me to meet you here," she said. Even though Oliver had cleared up what he meant, she still attempted some humor. Now that she knew he was here and had time to clear her mind and think, she wasn't as lost for words as she was early. "Why am I here, though?" She repeated the question, gesturing to show she meant ye city rather than the cafe. "Well, my parents spent a lot of money so we could finally go on vacation to Hawaii, as you already know. We hadn't done much so I assumed it was just a family vacation to get me and the boys out of our little town. Turns out it was more than that. They were softening us up. A few days later, they broke the news that my dad got a new job out here. Said a change of scenery would be good. I barely had time to say good bye before being dragged out here," she looked up from her smoothie, where she had been watching while she told the story, and met Oliver's eyes. "I swear I didn't know, Oli. You know I would've told you," she said. And it was true. If Ellie had known this during the trip, she would've told him. She would've been so excited to be moving out where he lived. Now she just wasn't sure.
"We just got moved in two days ago. Everything's been flipped upside down in my life and when I first saw you in class, I was excited. I thought there was a silver lining to the move, but you don't seem to agree and now I'm not sure what to think," her confidence dwindled a bit as Ellie began talking about their relationship rather than just her story. But now that she had began talking, she couldn't stop. It was a nervous habit of hers and the same thing that had happened before her first kiss with Oliver. She had ended up talking about all kinds of stuff before it finally happened. She didn't think the end result would be as good this time. "So I don't even really understand what's going on or how I feel or anything. I mean, the boys and my parents all seem to enjoy it here so I doubt we're leaving, but I really don't know what to think," she said. It was a bit repetitive, but again, it was a nervous habit of hers. It's not like she could stop it.
"I know I said it already and I don't know how to feel, but I was happy when I saw you. I never thought I would see you again, but there you were. I almost didn't believe it. I thought maybe this year wouldn't be as bad as I thought. Maybe I wouldn't be a social outcast like I had expected. For the first time, I found something positive in the move, but you don't want me here, do you?" That's when Ellie stopped talked. Her voice had been soft, almost pleading. As much as she didn't want him to say it, she knew it could be true. She'd give anything for him to tell her she was wrong and hug her, but she doubted that would happen. Instead she just watched Oliver, her brown eyes locked onto his. Whatever his response, she forced herself to stay where she was and talk to him. Talk through this and figure out their relationship and where they stood now. Though there were other patrons in the cafe, they all disappeared. Their noise was blocked out. Ellie was able to imagine that it was just her and Oliver. Maybe she shouldn't be holding onto the past and thinking of their time in Hawaii, but she still had feelings for Oliver and she couldn't deny it. She knew guys like him didn't have time for girls like her, but she wondered if maybe, just maybe, her and Oli were an exception.
She had loved her life back in Minnesota, but it was such a small place. She knew what was going on in the world, but it felt like a tv show. Like nothing mattered outside of their little bubble. ,Meeting Oliver, a guy from such a separate place, brought her into the other world. Through him, she could see more, know more, be exposed to more. It had been fun, learning what she could. That, and the fact that he was her first 'boyfriend' (if you could call him that), is what made him so special to her. And that's what made this moment so difficult for Ellie. She had dreamt of meeting Oliver again, but it hadn't gone anything like this and she was afraid to learn the result. Her thoughts had always ended with a warm embrace and the continuation of their relationship. She didn't mean to sound obsessive, she simply still had feelings for the boy from Hawaii and she wasn't sure how to feel or what to think with this new situation she was in.
A large part of Ellie wanted to reach across the table and grab his hand like she had so many times before. Another part of her wanted to go and sit by him where she could put her head on his shoulder and feel loved and protected, but she didn't dare do that. Based on Oliver's actions and words since she'd seen him this morning, she wasn't sure that would go over very well and didn't want to upset him, not when she was silently pleading and begging him to give her a chance. She just wanted to go back to this summer when it was her, Oliver, and no worries in their little world.
She simply stopped talking and stopped thinking as she sat there, waiting for his response. Even though it was probably only a second or two, the time dragged on painfully for Ellie. It felt like an hour, maybe two of silence as she sat there, fearing his reply. She didn't know what she'd do with whatever answer she got, but she was glad they got straight to the point so she didn't build up useless hope.
(Same XD But I think this is shaping up to be a very dramatic and fun plot XD)

Emmet was relaxing on the couch, of course he was home alone right now. Natalia was probably with her family or someone else trying to get them to do what she wanted to the exact detail. He let out a soft sigh, she had been so stressed. It kind of stressed him out to see her like that, luckily he had already talked to Lyra about setting up a spa appointment for the girls, it would help everyone relax a bit before the wedding. He heard his phone buzz and he didn't really want to get up and get it but he leaned over, reaching out as far as he could and grabbed the phone. His eyes scanned over the text. Lyra? Why would he, oh, well why wouldn't he want to see Lyra. He knew his best friend, of course he would have wanted to see her. So he responded: Alright, we will see you tonight then! She is probably at her parents shop today. If not I know Crystal is there she will know where Lyra is. The man sent the text and sighed. How was this going to go? He hopped well, after all Natalia and he shared everything so he knew how Lyra felt and of course how Madden felt. The only thing he could do was hope the two worked it out, after all it had been four years since they broke up. He knew both of them had grown up since then, maybe they would get passed everything.
After a few minutes he picked up his phone again to text his soon to be wife: Hey darling, just letting you know Madden is here in town. He is going to see Lyra. Fingers crossed. Emmet hoped everything went okay, not only for Madden and Lyra's sakes but for his and Natalia's. Because if they couldn't put aside their differences, that would stress Nat out. And she was worked up enough. He knew she would worry about it, the two were basically running the wedding with the bride and groom, so if they couldn't at least be civil there were going to be problems to say the least. Not just between them but with bridezilla. He chuckled a bit at his thoughts and set his phone beside him and started watching tv, he had everything handled for tonight. He had made sure to get everything done earlier in the week so he could just tell Natalia everything was handled on his end, reduce her stress a bit, hopefully.

"My trip was well, thank you." Nyeli responded. "Your estate is very beautiful." She figured a compliment wouldn't hurt. The estate was certaintley alot bigger than hers. She had realized that her parents were extremley chatty with her soon to be in-laws. Probably discussing plans for her future without her input. She glanced around the table, and didn't see any sign of Sebastian. He had probably gone off to see if his help was needed. "So, tell me," Nyeli returned her gaze to the other princess. "What's Greece like?" She had never been outiside of her country and was very curious to know.

Oliver Douglas ––
“Ellie..” Oliver started and then trailed off again, unsure of how to phrase his thoughts. He felt almost defeated. He didn’t want to hurt this girl, but he somehow knew that it was going to happen either way. Either right now, with her sitting across the table from him, or (if they got back together) down the line when he accidentally cheats on her because that’s just who he is. He knew, deep down, that the boy she had met in Hawaii was not the same boy that she was staring at right now. He wanted to say something, he wanted the words to come out of his mouth. Most of all, he wanted her to stop looking at him with such pleading eyes. He understood now why people usually broke up with each other over text, or the phone. Saying heartbreaking things is difficult in person. A part of Oli understands that this is the exact reason why he has never been in a real relationship. They’re too messy, too difficult. All that Oliver wanted was the have fun, ya’know? He didn’t want to be bogged down with commitments. He wanted to be able to go surfing at the beach when he wanted, go play basketball when he wanted, hang out with other girls when he wanted. Oliver had this notion in his mind that having a girlfriend would make all of this stuff impossible. It was easy to be with her in Hawaii, to “date” her, though he never really considers any of his flings relationships. But then again they never come back to bite him like this. In Hawaii, he had nothing else to do. If he wanted to hang out with her she was there, usually. If not, there was other things to do. He never felt particularly “attached” to her, as in they had to do everything together. She was just another girl, like all the rest. That’s all that she was supposed to be, but Oli wasn’t so sure anymore.
Oliver wished that she could read his mind. That she could know everything that he was thinking without actually having to say it out loud. Life would be so much easier that way. But truthfully, Oliver didn’t even know what he was thinking, “Ellie,” he tried again, this time taking a deep breath and just saying what he had to say, “Ellie, I’m not the same person you met.” He exhaled quickly, that didn’t hurt too bad. “Hawaii was just a.. thing for me, ya’know? Here, I have friends, I have sports, I have..” he trailed off for a moment, knowing this was going to hurt the most, “..girls. Ya’know?” He ran his fingers through his hair, and took another swig off of his coffee, already feeling the effects of the caffeine, “I can’t be what you want me to be, Ellie.” He liked saying her name, it made things feel softer, a little more personal.
Maybe that why he only has casual relationships. Because he can’t be what other people want him to be. He can’t be what other people deserve to have, as stupid as that sounds. Oliver knew that he was great, obviously. He was a great football player, he was great at gymnastics, he was pretty great in bed, he was great chatting people up. But he could never be a great boyfriend.
“I want to be your friend, Ellie.” He said earnestly, “I want to be your friend, and I want to hang out with you because I think you’re great! But you.. don’t want to date me, Ellie.” He sat back for a moment, feeling a little bit frustrated, “You must have heard, haven’t you? I mean, you were in school long enough to hear about me, I’m sure.” He didn’t say it in a bragging sort of way, but more of a bitter sort of way. Yes, he put up the front that he didn’t care what other people said about him. But on the inside, he really wished that other people would just mind their own damn business, ya’know? Why do they need to know who he spent the night with, or who he was kissing, or whose ass her grabbed in the hallway.
He sat back, finally finished with talking. It had turned into quite the rant. He picked up his fork and poked around at the piece of coffee cake left on his plate, refusing to look Ellie in the eyes after he finished speaking.
