Since in the Warriors series, the clan cats count every month with a full moon, then what happens if a Blue Moon happens? I'm talking about a 2nd full moon in a month. Do the cats count this moon, or do they realize it's out of place? Or has it ever been mentioned in the books?

I imagine they would be terrified of it like they were of the eclipse, since it's never been mentioned in the books. And since it's unnatural, I doubt they would hold a second Gathering. The concept would be interesting to explore, though.

Blue moons only exist because of the way our calendar works. It's not like the cycle of the moon is messed up every once in a while.

Do the warrior cats even have months of a calendar like we do? I think they'd just hold a second gathering. I've never read a warriors book and saw, "a second full moon this month! Let's just ignore it or be scared out of our fur." It's still just the normal cycle of the moon phases. Unless the warriors suddenly adopt our calendar of January, February, March, and so on, I see no reason why they'd react any differently than normal. It's only different to us Twolegs.

A blue moon happens during a month, not a moon. It just happens because our month is a bit longer than a moon, or a moon cycle. So their moon may start at a full moon and end before a blue moon.

You all are right that it's because of our calendar, but I'm assuming that the clans have a similar system to us, yet they don't realize that there's a blue moon because of the way the calendar is set up. We realize this, but the cats don't.
Here's what I think about this: They have probably gotten used to blue moons, since the clans have been around for a long time. They would've seen more than 1 blue moon in those years. So, they wouldn't really freak out anymore, since they would assume it was something that happened once in a while.
I'd like to hear some more ideas, so anyone else is free to post!

The clans don't count how many moons there are in a year since they don't base their time off of years or months. For them it's just seasons and moons. So I don't think they keep track of the amount of moons per season so a blue moon would just be another moon cycle for them to go to a gathering. It's not like it's a crescent moon one night and then the next it's BAM blue moon, it's just another full moon cycle that happened in a month. I did a quick google search and it seems it would be more accurate to have a 13 moon cycle to equate a year so that would make more sense for their calendar, since they go by the moon cycle then the warriors wouldn't have a blue moon it would just be a 13 moon cycle year.

I'd like to hear some more ideas, so anyone else is free to post! the thing is, the Clans measure time in moons--they simply don't have a concept of distinct months the way we do when you measure time only by the phases of the moon, then a blue moon is meaningless, because it still takes the same amount of time between full moons; there's nothing strange or different about it the only way they could have anything similar is I guess if they paid attention to how many full (or new) moons there were in each season, but they don't have a clear enough delineation for when a season begins…because they only measure in moons, so it's inconsistent the concept of a blue moon is interesting, but I just don't see a way it could fit into the Warriors world as it is at all

It doesn't exist in the warrior world.

The Erins can't be bothered writing about it. That's the logical explanation.

To me the Erins has made it clear that the Clans uses the moon as their calendar because the age of the cats are in moons not months or years. So there is no "blue" moon as we know it. Now if the moon actually turned blue or red now we do have a problem. Maybe that is what the River of Fire will be about, a red color moon and the Darkest Night will be about no moon or stars.

This was kind of bumped like six or seven months later, if moderators want to lock it, go ahead. I think we've discussed enough. All the posts have been saying the same thing, plus this is really old.
