Those who wish to see the dark, be ready to pay your price.--Shadowcry by Jenna Burtenshaw
Summery
Meet our narrator. She's called Marick, and she'll turn up later in the story.
Ability to draw ice and waves isn't the best. But I hope the idea still comes across.
And we meet (one of our) main characters.
Chapter 1 starts.
Old version of my introduction to new characters was just writing their names on them. I give out more info later.
I drew these sideways facing pages after I wrote the other ones for this part of the story. Then I realized I wasn't giving enough of the needed info. Just so I'm explaining the style changes.
Moor looks like he has rabbit ears in panel 1... XD
Just a little attempt to draw houses.
Meet our main main character. (The extra main is not a typo.)
Nothing to say here. I was experimenting with word bubbles.
I'm really proud about how this page turned out.
Hopefully this is the one and only time I have to explain what a word means inside the comic. >.<
Yay! Question mark faces!
Ice...again...
More of this will get revealed and explained better as we move on.
It may be hard to see, but that water drops are green as well as the mist that came from Will's mouth.
The gif that took so long to post.
Yes! Welcome chapter 2
Welcome our secondary character. They still have important things to say, so pay attention.
Ah, a secret cat. Who could that be?
Once again, it may be hard to tell that the marks are green.
I started to do the dividing lines on the computer
This is a flashback, incase you missed that. XD
It was hard making the last panel a different color than the rest of the flashback scene.
Tylor doesn't mind so much. He's probably thinking something like 'But I know what you look like when you laugh, Jo' in panel 3.
Uh oh, Mint's playing around with the borders again...
Kind of ended up spellchecking these next two pages in the computer. x.x
I've been trying to add more backgrounds.
Ah look. No words...
What's a background again?
Look! I actually put some effort in.
We get to hear a little about Rattlesnake. We'll learn more later.
Ooooo. Rattlesnake has a daughter.
Meet the Council of Twelve. Not all of them will be relevant in this comic.
All the Council with Marick and Jo edited out for my sanity's sake.
Our favorite fluff-ball.
This guy again.
Only seen him once or twice. Used to be featured in the prologue, along with Matchstick, back in the first version of this comic.
I honestly really like Monny.
She's actually a bit of a wimp in the Toxic War. Her name's a bit weird, blame younger me. I still entertain changing it to Penelope.
Our mentor main character.
He's turned up exactly zero times and if I have my way he wont turn up in this comic because we have too many characters as it is.
Same as Mister Conner. I doubt he'll turn up. He's also a bit dry and a wimp.
Looks like Thomas and name looks like Conner's and originally he was the half-paranormal and not Larry. He's honestly just that reject and I feel sorry for him. >.< I see him as being a bit of a force later, maybe ...
Oliva calls her Applebee because I've started to call her Applebee and that's just ... that. It's her head-fur, I swear. All these characters are connected and she's friends with Samantha Silverton. This is going to come back and bite someone.
Another character who wont turn up a lot. This is because she's either going to get a lot of short stories, a short comic, or a novella.
Our favorite annoyance. He's gonna get to shine in this comic, I promise. Also, his hair style's changed a bit recently. Another product of me thinking he and poor Carter Ray were the same cat.
What passes for our prophecy.
If you were wondering why I always drew Honey sitting down...
Monny doesn't remember his last name, hence the ???. Also, I just drew his eyes like that to set him apart from the others. Most Mixed Blood Paranormal are not going to be that obvious about their condition.
Panel 1: *background chatter* Introducing new character: Monny ??? / Male / Paranormal
Panel 2: Over there is Marick and Monny
Panel 3: Monny? Is that the same Monny that you and Taylor rant about so much?
Panel 4: *feet shuffle* Yah...
Panel 5: *background chatter* Monny has what we call "mixed blood". He was given powers by both Will and another Paranormal.
Panel 6: *background chatter* Because of this, he has a few extra powers... But is mentally unstable.
Panel 7: Monny: Hey! Get over here! / Both Jo and Clarisa: Yes, Sir!
Panel 8: They say that he can read the future as well... And that he supported Will C. Morgen of all cats.
Panel 1: You call yourself Jo, right?
Panel 2: bubble 1: Yes... bubble 2: Taylor says I'm not supposed to talk to you.
Panel 3: bubble 1: *whisper* Doesn't that mean not talking? bubble 2: Don't get chummy with me.
Panel 4: Monny: I've never met a murderer before. Jo: Wahhhh?!
Panel 5: Marick: Hey! Don't go looking at me like that!
Panel 6: (background) Monny! Monny: You will kill the ones closest to you. Not out of anger, fear, or hate... But because you have to. You should trust the three, but you will fail them.
Panel 7: (I really hope that's readable. x.x )
Also, just another reminder that Marick is our narrator.
Slight color in this one...
Panel 1: You said that I should talk to Marick about the Feline War. / Yes?
Panel 2: Well, as you know, I didn't really get a chance. So, I thought maybe...?
Panel 4: Fine.
Panel 6: My face is timeless. Even forty years ago I looked the same as I do now.
Panel 7: How many Warriors do we have left? / Not enough.
Panel 8: Impossible! Where is Rattlesnake? He did this, he should fix it! / I think it might be as we feared. He was killed in the last fight. Accept it.
Panel 9: We have to hurry. It's started to rain.
Hey! Look! Shading! This will only be present through the tunnel systems. Probably.
If text is hard to read, you can try zooming in. ^^ Sorry about that.
Butterfly-wings died, if that wasn't clear.
The day I can get the odd shadow out of the corner is the day I'll be happy.
Limited addition white word bubbles.
The cotinuation of the white word bubbles.
Blunt as ever, Marick.
Still managing to sort of update on time!
Remembering where Marick's poison marks are is a pain.
Both Oliva and Tom of the Moor are effected by the Poison, it's just hard to see Oliva's poison mark, as it's in her right eye. Don't ask my where Tom's is, I haven't figured it out yet. Probably lower haunches or underbelly. Now I just have to remember where they are...
Enter Will C. Morgen yet again. Oh yeah... and Larry.
Oliva's the only one talking in this page.
Updating might be harder to do, until my finals are done. ^^ Sorry it's only one page.
Larry Davis is Tylor Shield's son, if that wasn't clear. He has reasons which have yet to be explained for changing his name.
Two page update! Hopefully will get another 2 pages out before New Years.
Larry is short. Runs in the family, I guess. He and his dad are both short and fluffy.
By the way. O.O Weird 'sparks'. What could this be?
Percival who?
Another prisoner?
Oliva shouts a lot.
Updates still exist! Back to the regular schedule, I hope. One page a week. ^^
Alright. We'll be sticking with Jo and Marick for a little.
Not like the prophesy wasn't a bit obvious. @.@
I would have posted 2 pages, but I have a lot of schoolwork. *the harsh sound of nails on floor is heard as I'm dragged back to it.*
If I'd had an actual sense of time, this would have been up sooner. >.<
Dramatic lines and lazy backgrounds that will lead into story time.
Let the story begin.
Two pages because next week I wont be here to update. ^^
The one in the very bottom of the panel is Percival, if ya didn't know. :3
I realized only a bit ago that wasn't Friday, but I already had this done and ready and it seemed a waste to wait the half hour till midnight. XD
'Officially'. So.
What else is she not telling?
I'm late and my computer is being a very large pain and not loading well.
Yes, the whole point of this page was the dramatic poising/shading. cx
The big questions were asked.
One of the rare times that the whole page is a panel.
The update is supposed to be Friday-ish. I was on Friday ish.
Anyway, Marick, just because you can walk on loose pebbles doesn't mean Jo can.
Rabbit hole to go with my rabbit-ear style!
Jo is concerned.
Three pages to make up for the three weeks of updates school finals made me miss. @.@ Back to the regular schedule!
No words. But a very sad attempt at showing how far away from Seaside Marick and Jo were.
Look at Larry and REMEMBER
It's FLASHBACK time!
The ritual reads as Latin (danke Sapphire). But I wanted to save everything by drawing them as weird symbols.
Someone's fainting ...
Also, this mysterious shadow cat is still here. Looking familiar?
Larry explained ...
Funky shadows are symbolical.
Panel 2 and 3 are different. *wiggles eyebrows*
Also, reappearance of Monny!
After the very long hiatus there is an update! Woooh! And it took ages to remember we haven't had a chapter break recently. I promise those are better timed from this point on.
Explaining weird bramble things!
Knowing who this cat is isn't relevant. But look! Oliva in flashback!
Anyone remember this happening aaaaaaaaaages ago?
Someone guessed something along these lines, didn't they? Hum? Hum?
Oliva becomes a more important character ....... nooooow!
Penny responds to Applebee now, I guess. This isn't in color, but Penny's like ... a russet she-cat.
And as far as I know, the last we see of Larry is him dead asleep on his feet. But we'll see if he turns again.
Did I say that out loud?
Good ol' racism.
Teeeeeeeeeeension.
I think this is the first time there's been any blood in this comic.
Sam and Penny are good friends. I ... have nothing to say.
Drlawing the half in half out of the tunnels always makes me feel I should explain the walls aren't see-through.
Basically how it went, yeah.
More prisons.
Before I introduced Percival I wanted to have a complicated design. By the time I got here I was wiser.
The poison spreads. Again.
So much poison.
Percival is not amused.
Jo is maaaaaaaaaaaaad.
No answers were basically the thing.
RIP fish.
Liar.
Does she know???
Sam ... you said you were okay ...
Here's why we don't lie.
Your internal monologue is ... very nice.
Honestly like this transition page.
Fish! Somehow I'm pleased with the last panel in particular.
This was before the warning got out to watch for her. Remember that Sam was roommates with 'Ame' for a little without knowing who she was. Well this was their first meeting.
I think I wrote a fan fiction for it too, though it was slightly different?
Will pays no mind
Yes, how did they get there all of a sudden.
Is that advised?
A bit over the top? Maybe. Maybe not.
I don't do secrets. How Will was going to end that sentence is important.
More poison. Time slips away so fast.
Will runs away.
This was the chapter 4 cover, but we didn't get to the coming plot point until, well, now.
I'm pleased with this page.
Or maybe you just need a reason not to think about the prophecy?
Long drop down.
Whoops
Faaaaaaaaaalling
Lucky I guess
She is.
Yep. Another update so soon!
Wonder what she means.
Quick little POV shift coming up again.
I know it's been a while, but if you look back at the beginning, she's starting to look like a certain dead body's amount of poison.
Wonder why.
Look who else is starting to look bad.
Jo totally isn't feeling put on the spot.
Well ... are you?
Wow. Typos are fun. :/
I really don't know what time I did these pages to have them come out all typos. >.<
Them vs. Us. Sounds very healthy.
Is she doing her best though?
Sounds ominous.
Someone's listening in.
Honestly, I think this is my favorite chapter cover.
Lightbulb!
But the face is so frazzled.
Scar is visible.
So we're ignoring them for now.
This might be the first time Percival is seen head on.
Being cryptic isn't becoming.
Answers begin.
Here we aaaaaaaare.
These next two panels are just fun. Though there world bubbles are very confusing.
Answers continue.
So ... you have some answers but not all of them.
Ummmm
Liar, liar pelt on fire.
Uh oh.
Well, I mean, you don't actually let Marick do or not do anything.
Everyone needs to set up their own prophecy.
!!!!!!!!!!
AKA: Kill the three sisters or kill your friends, Will? Oooookay then.
You have very little options.
Duh du du.
End chapter
I think this is the second to last chapter? Possibly the last one.
Someone is mad.
Marick isn't doing to hot.
Unscheduled hiatus? What unscheduled hiatus?
Should we trust her?
Yes. Another trip to the caves.
Wonder what that could mean?
Someone is blatantly listening in.
Flawed logic, but okay.
This still hurts that I was planning this for 70% of this story.
Lightning and Damask was the original title of the last chapter of the first draft.
I don't think anyone remembers that Larry's dad is Tylor Shields. Well there's your reminder.
Oh hey. Who could that other cat be?
Wait, wait, why's Larry there?
Huuuuum?
No? Why 'no'?
Blood Warning!
Honestly, I'm rather proud of this page.
Also, huuum. Is that Marick and Oliva? Why are they injured as well?
Well. She's dead.
Marick and Oliva ... talking on a roof.
Wonder why they have scars.
Oliva's powers were directly seen. You look and you'll find Marick's in the flashback story. :3
Hum? What? They aren't sisters?
So. Will's power was to become three cats at once. Huuum.
"And thus ends the tales of Spiderwick, a balance has been struck, the peace between the worlds should last, with any bit of luck --"
Story ends!
Will C. Morgen was supposed to be dead. Three cats saw her fall from the top of a cliff, into a sea, in the middle of Winter. But when she turns up two years later, at the same time as a mysterious sickness, cats begin to wonder what secrets are being kept from them. Jo Pree is the apprentice to the leader of Seaside, the small town who was utterly changed by Will two years ago. As the sickness, named The Poison, rages through the town Jo starts to unravel the secrets of Seaside and all of them seem to lead back to Will C. Morgen. Who can Jo trust to help keep her and her friends alive? And what - or who - will be sacrificed to keep those secrets buried. Or to bring them to the surface...forever.
Three sisters, twelve Council members, one apprentice and the cats she relies on, all against a sickness that could claim them all.
We now have a map thanks to Aphelyon over at this shop!

We now have a map thanks to Aphelyon over at this shop!
Characters
Will C. Morgen
Female | 25 moons | rogue
The most well know cat in Seaside. Considered it's Founder in some circles. She is a gray she-cat with brown ears, tail, paws, chest, head fur and cheeks. Her eyes are violet, but switch to green as times. She is the middle sister, between Oliva and Marick.
Marick
Female | 25 moons | rogue
The healer. She is the kindest of the three sisters, but also the weakest (both mentally and physically). She is the youngest sister. She is a gray she-cat with brown ears, tail, chest fur, hair, cheeks, and paws. She has violet eyes.
Oliva
Female | 25 moons | rogue
The warriors. She is the oldest sister and the most powerful physically. Though she is often harsh, brash, or angry, she can still feel love for those she cares about. She is a gray she-cat with brown paws, cheeks, head fur, chest, tail, and ears. She has deep amber eyes.
Jo Pree
Female | 9 moons | apprentice to Tylor/CIVILIAN
She is a tan she-cat with tuftd ears and fluffy fur. She's a short-hair with green eyes. Born an only child, she migrated to Seaside and was not born there. Her roommate is Honey, an ex-soldier in the Toxic war. Jo is not a Paranormal, nor does she ever want to be one. Often a little to much of a follower.
Samantha Silverton
Female | 18 moons | CIVILIAN
Agrey she-cat with a black patch on her chest. Born in Seaside but not often seen out of doors. She was unaware of Will's identity because of this. Her roommate is Ame, who she met on the beech one day a year ago. She is a paranormal, but still keeps company with Normals, much to some eyebrow raising from others. Often a bit naive and tries not to go abover her station. Apprenticed, albeit unofficially, to the Paranormal Penny MacAlpine.
Clerisa Fern
Female | 35 moons | COUNCIL Member
Clerisa is an ex-soldier from the Toxic Army. (Name: Greenfern.) Sometimes she makes references to 'Clans'. But otherwise, she seems removed from her past. One of the Council members. No-nonsense. Ready for anything. Has a past she can't leave behind and a distaste for Rattlesnake she can never let go.

Story ends!
