(I just die a little inside every time it happens. Especially when I write out a 600 word reply and the internet decides to just delete it all the one time I forget to copy and paste it in a Word document. XD
That's what I meant, but I didn't clarify too well, lol. My God, this plot as a musical would be the best thing. I would pay good money to see this animated/acted out. XD )
Anya's curiosity showed at the mention of his "party trick," but it took a back seat when he continued with his explanation. A part of her wondered if he would have talked to Seth or not. The other part felt a little guilty that she hadn't tried the same. After all, she had promised she would try to bring him here, and she hadn't done a thing to keep it. "At least you tried. No one can fault you for that," the woman told him. "In the end, it's his decision. He does what he wants."

Oh man. I hate that. Whenever that happens, I have to walk away from the computer so I don't feel tempted to chuck it out the window. xD
Oh. xD Right?! I would too. ;D Also, I've decided "Let Me Make You Proud" (from the same show/singer) could totally be Seth too. ;D Morgan laughed. "That is definitely true," he said. His smile faded a little. "He does do some things he doesn't want to do, though. I was hoping this would be one of them." They'd arrived on the front porch, which was almost identical to the back, since it was technically one big wraparound porch. The guests were all crowded together on either side of the porch steps, talking excitedly in hushed voices. Morgan grinned. "Oh, good, they're ready."

(And then proceed to light it on fire.
I really like the singer for that character. He's got a nice voice, and, yes, I have to agree that it does fit very well.)
Anya could have commented on that fact, but given where they were at, she decided not to. This wasn't the time to debate Seth's actions and reasons. Not to mention, Morgan knew him better than she did. ow could she argue with him? It wasn't like she had time to respond anyway. They arrived at the front porch among the other guests, certainly not a place to discus Seth. So, instead, she let the subject drop. "So, what is this trick you're to do?" she asked, turning slightly so she could watch him.

Lucky indeed. xD
Aye. xD Morgan did the head tilt again. "I could do it now, but I'm waiting for Callum to trigger my perimeter spell first. The sooner I cast the spell, the longer I'll have to hold it. So I'd rather wait until I know he's almost here. And -" He stopped, gaze snapping up. "Speak of the devil," he said, unknowingly quoting Cresseida. He looked through the crowd, seeking her or her daughter, before calling out, "He's coming!"
Immediately everyone went quiet; some stopped talking entirely, others simply dropped their voices to whispers. Morgan shot Anya a grin. "Here we go," he said in a stage whisper. He stepped to the edge of the porch and closed his eyes. He took a deep breath, and a soft golden glow surrounded him for a moment before dispersing, cast out into the spell. As he'd said, no one in the crowd noticed a difference; but when Callum appeared, it was clear he saw nothing of what waited for him.
He walked toward the house, whistling quietly. He had one hand in his pocket, while the other swung a long, thin rope around. A small pebble was tied to one end of it, and it twirled around at a rapid pace. He stopped its spinning a few feet from the porch, and as he was putting it in his pocket, Morgan released the magic, erasing the illusion. At the same time, the crowd shouted, "SURPRISE!" as they became visible. Morgan gave Anya a nudge in the moment before to warn her in case she wanted to join in on the shout.

As always, Anya watched with interest as Morgan began to cast the spell. Other than the small orb of light, there was no change in the scenery around them. She could still see all of the guests with ease, as well as everything around them as far as landscape was concerned. Still, she dared not speak as the lone figure walked up the path to the house. As he drew near, she was able to tell that this was, in fact, Cami's brother. The two of them shared several features that made it unquestionable that they were related. His complete lack of attention to the multitude on the porch confirmed that whatever Morgan was doing was being done right. Thankful for the warning nudge, she had just enough time to join in on the shout of greeting to the young man, even if she felt a little awkward doing so. It was strange suddenly shouting at a person you didn't know, especially when it was for a surprise birthday party. But she did lend her voice to the efforts.

(Oh, yes, I could see it. Change some of the lyrics, and I think Seth could make it his own. XD)
Anya, since she was unknown to Callum, decided that it would not be wise to join the crowd as they swarmed to wish him a happy birthday. She would let his family and friends go first, and would do the same only when he had time. Of course, she wouldn't leave without speaking to him. That would just be rude. "I think the trick work reasonably well," she commented, smiling up at Morgan.

(Hmm, that's a good question. I say we could time skip to the next day or so. Either they could share a lunch period or be meeting up to work on the project? Casey could be giving him the cold shoulder, and he tries to get some kind of conversation out of her.)
"Right," Casey replied shortly. The chemistry project. Once it was done, he would never speak to her again. Lane would return to the life he created for himself with the people that were "more pressing" than she was. Mentally, she scolded herself for being so bitter to him. It wasn't like this was such a taboo thing to do. People lost interest with other people all the time. There were some friends in middle school she hadn't talked to in years either. However, this one was different. The girl just couldn't understand his complete avoidance of her. Yet she didn't bring it up. Lane made it clear he was only here to do the project, so who was she to try and bring him back into her friend group. Glancing down in the dim light, she looked at the text books in front of her. Suddenly, she wondered why she had even bothered inviting herself to join him here in the first place. "Then lets just get it done." ( Thanks for waiting so long for my responses. I feel like I'm neglecting this rp, even though I like it. Alright, so I guess from here on they'd work on their project or perhaps just leave to go home altogether. We can skip to the next day, where they're in class again and assumably working on the project. )

"Illusionary magic?" Morgan considered, then tilted his head back and forth in a nod/head shake combo. "It really depends on the Rider. Some, like me, find it incredibly easy. Others, like *cough*Seth*cough*, not so much. It depends not on your magic level - well, it sort of does - but mostly how good you are depends on how vivid your imagination. If you want to make a good, real, and vivid illusion, you have to be able to picture it in your head first. There are cases, like Seth, where the imagination isn't enough but, usually, that and a buttload of willpower, is enough to become good at illusionary magics."

(Nah, it's all good. I understand that other things come up.
Sounds reasonable to me. Who should start?) ( I could, though I was wondering if you wanted to start if anything significant was going to change on Casey's side of things the next day. I'm assuming not, so here we go! )
Despite their terrible reunion, Lane had appeared at school the next day as if it had never happened. Chemistry was first today, and Lane sat in the classroom like the early student he was. Every day he arrived early, sitting at his desk, phone out. In the half hour before the bell would ring to signal the beginning of class, some students would file in, just a couple at a time. The blond boy would glance up at the kids entering. He returned his phone to his bag, fiddled with his long sleeves for a bit, and began to actually get his class supplies ready. As per usual, the entire class time was dedicated to project work. The bell hadn't rung yet, but it would soon.

That surprised her. "You mean Seth isn't good with illusionary magic?" she asked. "How is that? He doesn't have a lack in imagination. I've seen his sketchbooks. Some of those pictures were incredible and extremely complex, and the way he talks about his process is beyond my understanding. I would have thought he'd be good at it."
(At the moment, I don't think anything on her part would have changed. I'll start the next time we skip though!)
Casey, who normally liked to get to class a little early as well, wasn't in a hurry to get to chemistry class. A part of her didn't want to face Lane today. She didn't want to be reminded or how little the boy had thought of her during the last few years, of how he was only speaking to her because they had to. After all this time, she had thought she had come to accept what had happened. New friends had come along, and she was kept busy and had plenty of other people to hang out with. Still, to finally have the answers she had been searching for, it only seemed to re-open old wounds instead of help heal them. Yet she couldn't just avoid him. So, five minutes before the bell would rind, the girl walked into the classroom and headed towards her seat. The class would no doubt be focused on the project. A lot of the other students assumed the same thing as they took seats next to their partners. Hers was already there, sitting and watching the others enter. Without a word, she went to take the seat next to him.

Lane glanced at Casey as she took her seat. Without thinking, he gave a polite smile and "Good morning." He only realized after the words left his mouth that this was Casey sitting beside him, and that the rest of this class period had the potential to be incredibly awkward. As many awkward experiences Lane had endured, he could never get used to them. On the outside was a smile while he was internally wishing for it all to be over with.

Casey pretended as if he hadn't spoken at all while she dug her books and a pen out of her backpack. Only once her things were laid out before her did she acknowledge him. "Have you thought anymore about the project?" she asked. "Any ore lists of elements that might be good to incorporate?" She might not want to talk to him, but the work still had to be done. If they expected to get a good grade on it, then some communication was in order. The girl could talk chemistry to Lane. Small talk was a different story.
For some reason, she just found it hard to believe Seth hated lying as Morgan claimed. If he was able to act with the best of them, wasn't that a form of lying? Pretending to act a way you don't? She didn't voice this statement out loud, seeing as it might not be the best topic to discuss at the moment. So, instead, she chose the more pleasant of the two options. "Yeah, he did. I... had fallen asleep at his place one day, and when I woke up, he was sketching. He was working on a sketch of Corrik, with plans of turning it into a painting. Then he let me look at the rest in the book."

"Hmm..." Morgan hummed. "Guess I'll just have to ask him if he shows up. Now, let's go say hi to the birthday boy and get some food. I'm starving." He led the way down into the crowd, which had dispersed so they covered the whole front lawn in pairs or groups. Callum was standing by one of the tables with his mother and sister hanging out nearby. Morgan marched right up to him and opened his arms as if to hug him. "Callum!"
Call's broww went up, and his lips twitched. "Morgan," he replied cordially. He did not move to permit or accept a hug. "Did my fearless brother send you in his stead?"
"Nope," Morgan replied cheerily, ignoring the derision in Callum's voice. "Cami invited me. And Anya, kinda. Speaking of." He turned to see where she was, then grabbed her hand and pulled her closer with a smile. "Callum, Anya. Anya, Callum. He, as you know, is Seth's btother. She is our newest Rider."

"If," Anya echoed. And it was a big if at that. She put thoughts of Seth away for the moment, however, as she followed Morgan through the crowd to where Callum stood. Her nerves got themselves worked up again as they walked, hoping she wouldn't make a fool of herself. As the two males spoke, she stayed a bit behind Morgan. That is, until he grabbed her hand and pulled her to stand beside him. Giving a sheepish smile, she bowed her head in respectful greeting. "It's nice to finally meet you, Callum," she greeted, glancing up at the man. "Cami and Seth have mentioned a lot about you. I hope you do not mind my being here."

Lane nodded. As he was taking a few papers and writing utensils onto his desk, he responded, "Well, when it comes to electricity, we're always using metals. Copper, iron, nickel, stuff like that." He ran a hand through his hair and peered about the classroom at the other groups, some of which had already moved to lab benches to continue discussing their projects. "We'll probably just stick to transition metals, though," he added, and then deadpanned, "Gotta keep the experiment stable. Don't want anything exploding on us." It was meant as a joke, but Lane wasn't smiling.

A warmth spread over her face at Callum's complement, thankful to have Morgan there next to her. His barely controlled laugh helped to keep her mind from going completely blank. The last thing she had expected was for Callum to have been so forwardly charming. The exchange with Morgan helped her to know that it might have been normal behavior. With that in mind, she tried to be as casual as possible. "I've known Seth for the better part of two months now, almost three. Morgan I meet a month ago," she replied, keeping a friendly smile of her face. "And it hasn't been Seth keeping me away, but training. I've been having to make up for some lost time, and I didn't know there was so much that went on with Rider training."
Casey nodded in agreement, writing down the list of metals he stated. His joke, while she assumed it was to lighten the discussion, made no indication that she heard. "Do you want to use pure metal pieces, or do you want to conduct it using household items made from the material?" she asked. "Household items might be easier to get a hold of and use, but I'm sure the school might have just plan pieces of metal we could borrow. If not, we'll have to go track some down.

Anya, for her part, laughed. "I grew up in a household of boys. I like to think my tolerance for the male species is higher than most," she informed him. While she didn't want to get on Callum's bad side, she wasn't going to let Morgan, or Seth, despite her current feelings towards him, go undefended. "In that time, I have been thoroughly entertained by their shenanigans, so I think I'll keep them around a bit longer. Not to mention my dragon has found friends with theirs. That's also a key factor it things."

Callum chuckled. "'Shenanigans,'" he repeated. "That's a good word for what they like to do. And speaking of dragons, where is yours? Hiding in the backyard, I'm guessing? I'll have to go back and meet him soon. In the meantime, where -"
He was interrupted by a distant, thunderous WHOOSH that had the whole yard falling quiet. Everyone looked up and around, as if expecting rain clouds. There was only clear skies, with the occasional white wisp scudding across the sky. Someone asked if that had been thunder, and they were answered by another WHOOSH and... laughter.
Morgan's laughter. His gaze was on the sky, but he was looking toward a certain spot. He knew exactly what was making that sound.
Callum knew he knew, and he shot Morgan an irritated look. "Well, are you going to enlighten us?" he asked snidely.
Morgan smirked and shook his head. "No need, if you use your eyes. Can you not see her?"
Callum frowned and looked up. "Her who?"
Morgan pointed. "Stellaluna."
As if her name was a summons, there was a final WHOOSH, and then Stel came plummeting from the sky. Unlike Corrik and Kyon, she didn't try to hide her arrival. She came down fast, like a falling star, and aiming right for the front yard. She pulled up at the last moment, so she was about as high as the house roof. She soared by overhead, the wind from her passing almost enough to knock the guests off their feet. It was also enough to distract them from the figure who had dropped from her back.
Everyone, that is, except Morgan. "Seth!" he called, laughing. "You just couldn't resist making an entrance, could you?"
Seth slowly rose from his crouch, which he'd halted in after hitting the ground and immediately rolling to keep from breaking a leg - or two - in his fall. His lips twitched into the hint of a smile. "Someone had to provide a bit of entertainment."
