this takes place after the cold peace in a small town. There is no institute. The only institute nearby is the one in the city about an hour west of the town. Shadowhunters may live in said city and travel to the town to handle demonic or downworlder activity.
Egret, a fae slightly small in stature but still thin for her size, strode down the street with pride. Her soft skin was covered with brown, downy fur, and two moth-like (although non-functioning) wings adorned her shoulder blades. She walked with grace and purpose. She did not know what guise the mundanes saw, but whatever they saw, a few turned to stare at her. Maybe they could sense that her presence was superior to their's, and she wasn't even a faerie of the gentry.
By the small fae's side was her more savage companion, Rathenial. His skin was dark; upon closer inspection, it was entirely tree bark, but when one touched it, it was still soft and fleshy, hardened only by the muscle underneath. His hair was a mess of thin, hanging branches, like a weeping willow, as should adorn any tree. His brown eyes flicked up to the pesky branch in his face. He broke it off, tossing it to the grow roughly as they walked. He glanced around, wary of the mundanes. At times, the way they looked at Egret with awe, he was afraid that they were not hidden and that these mundanes could all see them as the fae they were, but it was not true. Whatever he could not see of Egret must have been exceptionally beautiful.

Donte, as any proper vampire must be named, was stretched over his chair in the club in the strangest of positions. He looked barely 17, but he hadn't needed much charm to get the bouncer to let him in. Donte liked to try new things; this game that another vampire had told him about-- chasing humans out of clubs-- seemed like a fun new game. He had to try to get them into the vampire clan's territory so that it was "legal" to eat them under the Accords. Instead of waiting and stalking and sulking as food wandered just outside his grasp, he got to bring to food to the table! He wasn't sure if it was technically legal; he didn't really care. Human blood was awesome; he wasn't going to wait for another second, so he picked his prey, a girl with long legs (better for running) and a bit of muscle to her. He lured her out the back door, and then he simply had to hiss! Unfortunately, she kicked him in the shin before running, which delayed his start a bit… Ugh. He'd been planning to give her a head start anyway…
