[ here is my Veronica reply that is written for the Andromeda team. Once I see Cat online, I'll see if she'll want to write up a Kyle reply for Cassiopeia team, and then I'll have my other replies there. But for now, just a major reply to kinda get things going n.n ]
The ship's interior lit up when Veronica and her team stepped inside. Immediately, she saw that it was vast, but homey, a comfortable glow lighting the spaces. The main section, where they were currently in, was large. Various terminals and benches and holographic stations were lit up with colorful translucent screens beaming from their centers. One wall was all glass, looking out to the Cassiopeia and the hangar, surely a one-way view as she hadn't seen a window from the outside. The window was dimly lit as a screen, and Ronnie wondered if that was where she would see to most of the progress and whatnot. She heard that these ships had state of the art technology, included with a holographic model of the ships to view upgrades and any damages, etcetera, as well as a three-dimensional holographic map that, with her omnitool on, she can scan and pick and choose coordinates for their missions; maybe that window-screen was that station.
From where she stood, she could look to the right and see the little pathway entering the cockpit, where it appeared to be a comfortable-sized room with two seats in front of the controls. And to her left was where the rest of the ship sat, greeted with two wide glass doors on either side of an elevator that could lead to the crew deck, engineering, etcetera. She was sure there would be a tour of sorts soon, though she would look on her own. Not that she minded looking around her ship with her team, but for the moment while things took off, Ronnie needed a moment to be with herself to calm down. Her facade of calm and collected authority was a mask that was difficult to hold up with all of these overwhelming things happening so fast.
Once the crew was aboard, the ramp they had crossed let out a moderate clank as it unlocked and rose, the ramp's arched surface soon fitting snug along the wall of the ship, re-locking again to seal them in. The soft sounds of the locks snapping and beeping, a hiss as the air was sealed off, almost churned Veronica's stomach; the sounds were a final, punctuated note that with was real, that it was happening so fast.
A beam of red light flickered at a terminal just by the entrance, alerting the team of their AI, presenting herself (or, itself? Though it appeared as a young girl) with a smile and a greeting. Veronica pressed a small smile to her lips at the enthusiastic greeting towards her. This wasn't her first time working and dealing with AI's (the good kind); she equally murmured a soft welcome to the computer, 'D.A.I.Sy.' as it called herself. Veronica gave the little holographic computer intelligence a small nod as she was literally given the mantle.
Veronica stepped away from the group so she could face her team. She was expected to make a speech, a welcoming of the team, to formerly introduce herself as well as give them all words of advice and encouragement. In all honesty...she was not great with speeches. She's actually not even in an authoritative status to even give speeches. She had probably spoken up in a length once or twice. As for this speech, with her team looking at her, and her deputy commander at her side -- who was well over her own age, and probably should have been selected as the commanding officer instead -- she had to make her place in this team. It seemed that everyone was counting on her and Kyle to succeed.
She glanced at her deputy commander, Daniel she had suddenly remembered from the briefing and files she barely scanned. He seemed quiet, but not calm. Almost not reassuring to her, but he didn't seem freaked out like she was. Clearing her throat, she adjusted her stance, let out a smooth breath, and looked upon her team. The word 'young' flashed in her mind like a hot neon light. She saw young members, selected by their achievements, thrust upon a mission in the great unknown. Will they survive? Will they hold together, like a family, like a team? Or will they all die, shot down or crushed or beaten. Or break and crumble and not work together. She only hoped that they would survive, or die, together rather than far, far apart in this proximity in the last frontier.
"My name is Commander Veronica Shepard," she greeted in a solid tone, summoning her inner strength to appear as their leader rather than a young officer she previously was just a week ago before Howe presented the mission to her. "You all, as a solid group, represent the Andromeda as a team. We will strive for strength, form solid bonds, and work together to get this mission done." Such strong words, she thought, but she hoped they helped. Flexing her fingers at her sides, she moved her hands to clasp behind her, giving off a calm stature. "Now, I'm to give you words of encouragement and advice, but...I'll be very honest with you," she continued, pausing as she glanced at every face before looking at the floor. "We do not know what we're handling with, what we'll be facing, but my only hope is that we succeed. We might get hurt, severely injured, and might even die," she paused again to gauge reactions, "but I hope that we would get this mission done. It will cost lives, but it might end something greater than what we're ready for."
In other words, this could be the beginning of a war. And Veronica knew that a simple squirmish and battle was nothing like a war. A war with the unknown was something they were not ready for. "Finishing this mission will hopefully solve many conflicts later on," she punctuated, blinking at her crew.
With a small sigh, she turned on her heel to gesture around the main deck of the ship, an acknowledged nod to the lit up AI close by. "Feel free to roam the ship, get a feel of the place, get to know your stations and quarters. D.A.I.Sy will be your guide; just find any of these terminals in any area-" she noted, as she had seen various more of the AI stations scattered around, so she was sure they were there as a guide, "-and she will answer any given questions you have."
Before she could let the group loose, she brought up her right arm parallel to her body, her left hand tapping her wrist to bring up the orange omnitool. "Also, you all are assigned to your own AI ORB." She tapped a button, and a bright blue holographic sphere lit up in her palm of the omnitool. "They are an assistance you will carry off-board at all times. They are connected to D.A.I.Sy and S.O.P.H.I -- the AI unit for the Cassiopeia -- to give and retrieve information. But they are your own personal guide and assistance." Veronica tapped her blue sphere, a slight beep sounding, and the orb changed from a sphere to a map of the ship in striking blueprint detail. "It'll be your map, taking up scans of anywhere and everything of wherever you are. It'll electronically connect with everyone's orbs to show as 'friendlies' on your map. Any unknown will appear as red, as a threat. They are usually ones with weapons, but if you see a civilian with a weapon, be sure to scan them to take them off the map."
Veronica tapped her orb again to change it from a map to a figure, a girl with electronic blue skin and metallic-like pieces covering her body, illuminating white eyes and dark cropped hair. "Your orb can take it's own shape of it's own liking, becoming an assistant, as well as a combat companion." Another tap, and her little blue figure was projected to the floor next to her with a pistol in its hand. "They can't take damage, but their weaponry can harm enemies. They'll appear on-ground in a fight for only a minute before they transport back to your orb. Use them during combat when you need an extra hand."
She tapped her orb once again to make it a sphere once more, holding it with her omnitool as reference. "With your battlesuits, you are given a headset that has a visor screen over your dominant eye, one you use for targeting. Your orb can connect with it to give you a three-dimensional first-person view of a map, if needed. Your helmets also has this tech."
Finally, she cleared the orb and her wrist-tech cleared the omnitool, and Veronica returned to her calm stance, hands behind her back. "You can pick up your assigned AI orb at the technician station down in engineering. Your orbs have been assigned to you by General Howe and the commanding officers who set this project together. Each orb comes with a various color and avatar selection and a name that has been chosen by them. You are to keep it safe and charged while on board. Their charging ports download any and all information to D.A.I.Sy and S.O.P.H.I for connected data that each of you have collected. And," Ronnie added with a shrug, "you can talk to your AI unit for friendly conversation, diary or journal entries if you wish, and outside communication."
Taking a breath, Veronica quickly scanned her mind for any information she missed, and she looked at Daniel to see if he wanted to add something. And if he did, she would leave him to it. She gave her team a nod, then turned to give Daniel the floor to speak or dismiss the group. As for Ronnie, she quickly eyed the area before going to the elevator so she could go to her very own quarters to unpack her things. She had that to do, a contact comm to her father, and then she had to set up her battlesuit so it was ready at all costs. She'll allow the team to get set up on their own paces, and once they've taken off and in the stars, she'll set up a comm link with the Cassiopeia to discuss plans.
