Syl: The male Thessian listened to the speech with equal parts boredom and excitement. He was honored to be a part of this group and the mission was practically made for him- ships, unknown space, adventure⦠but in the end a speech was a speech and he listened to it with no special attention. Instead he focused more on the people around him and their reactions and waited for the General to finish speaking. Lots of stuff about danger and death. The new information about the storms was exciting, though. Then the red-haired woman stepped up to give a list of the people on her team and he straightened, finally paying full attention. So this was his Commander, huh? Well, she seemed competent enough. Certainly organized, as evidenced by the wrist-computer and files. He tried to memorize the names that she read off, but he was sure that he mangled some of them. Oh well, it would straighten out eventually once he got to know them.
He walked over to the ramp with the rest of his team, lagging behind on purpose so he could get a glimpse of his team members. Lots of humans, a few aliens. Most seemed fairly young and both genders were represented. A fairly even group. He silently thanked his past self for having the foresight to learn English- it looked like there was only one other Thessian and the majority of the others were human. Sylβs attention was naturally drawn to the other member of his species first- she seemed apprehensive and he wondered why. Her suit was very different from his as well, with cloth pieces and fairly slim fit, while his was bulky and armored. Her name was also different, with a hyphenated last name. Both those observations told him she was likely in a different culture-group than his. Even so, the other was probably more like him than anyone else here and he made a note to talk to her later. His musings were interrupted by the door to the ship opening, and he tried to look inside, his short stature making that somewhat difficult as he tried to see over the shoulder of the tall, slim human in front of him- the pilot, he thought. Syl gave up after a few seconds of straining, preferring not to embarrass himself by asking the human to move. Instead he was content to listen and wait until it was his turn to board.
DAISy: As the lights came on in the ship, two processor cores in a dark closed-off room of the ship whirred to life. Small electrical signals danced through all of the wires and computers aboard both ships as DAISyβs subroutines came online and verified all of the components of the ships were in place and ready to go. During the checkup DAISy felt the presence of another AI and filed that information away for later, choosing instead to address Shepard's team aboard the Andromeda.
A terminal inside the ship and just to the right of the entrance flickered to life with a red holographic projection of DAISyβs chosen avatar- a young female who was older than a child but too young for an adult. As the Commander touched the keypad and entered the ship, she cheerily called out to the group, βWelcome to the Andromeda! I am pleased to make your acquaintance, Shepard, as well as the rest of you.β She made sure to address the Commander first- she had noted the womanβs shaking hands and some other subtle clues with the outside cameras and deduced that Veronica was likely nervous and somewhat ill-prepared for a mission of this magnitude. Therefore she had determined to pay special attention to the Commander and subtly reinforce her authority whenever possible. She continued with her introduction, βI am the Dual-core Artificial Intelligence System, you may call me DAISy. Should you have any questions I am available at any terminal on-board.β Her avatar gave a cheerful smile and clasped her hands behind her back, listening for further interaction with a fraction of her processing power while the other parts monitored the various functions of the ship she was on as well as kept an eye on the other team outside. She didn't want to intrude on the other AI if possible, so she stuck mostly to the Andromeda and kept only a light touch on the Cassiopeia's systems.

As the general left, Kyle glanced at the remaining soldiers β his team. His team. The Cassiopeia team, technically, but then again... Kyle was their leader. He forced a smile β it probably looked fake. βWell β I suppose introductions are in order?β he said, hitching his shoulders slightly and standing as tall as he could β not that he was terribly tall at 5'9β, there were much taller people on his team after all, but... It didn't really matter how tall he was. βI'm Kyle Tennyson β though most of you already knew that.β He glanced over at Bryn β his deputy commander, easily his superior by far. According to her diagnostic file, she was royalty, the 'spare.' But she'd followed the male side of the royal family by joining the military instead of pursuing politics β he couldn't argue with that. After all, he'd thought teaching was his strong suit. But enough of thinking: he needed to get them aboard the Cassiopeia. He pursed his lips, then spoke. βYou may have already met Deputy Commander ilPedar. The other soldiers here you'll get to know during our time together. Now... I'm sure most of you would like to put your stuff on the ship and get a tour of it. So I'd suggest we board.β So β he started towards the ship, activating it, and heading inside, glancing back only once to make sure they were following him.
---
Okay. The ship was awesome. Probably the coolest thing Isaac had ever seen, and he'd seen a lot of really cool things in his lifetime. His eyes flickered around the ship, never fully landing on anything. God he couldn't wait to see the cockpit and the controls and, well, everything. He glanced over at the girl next to him β a short black girl with frizzy hair. She was cute. Pity he didn't know her name. Heck, there were a lot of cute girls here... not that he'd have time to do more than flirt with them and make stupid jokes and completely turn them off him. Heh. So, instead of checking them out (which would've been kinda rude anyways, now that he thought about it), he kept his eyes focused on the ship itself. Or... he would've, had a figure not popped up, exclaiming a welcome in a cheery voice, then introducing herself (itself?) as the ship's AI. She seemed... nice, he supposed, though he hadn't had much interaction with artificial intelligence, and his mom had always told him that first impressions weren't always the best judge of character. Sure, you could tell if someone came off as rude or polite or funny or flirty or whatever, but that wasn't always the whole story. He'd always been taught to trust his instinct on if someone was worth wasting time on, except... all of these people seemed way too serious for his tastes. He'd just stick to the cockpit and, if possible, get to know the Cassiopeia's pilot.
---
While Daniel would've much preferred to head straight to his quarters and dump his stuff off there, and possibly sit in the dark for twenty minutes or so before they had to interact with the crew (why had he thought drinking before a mission was a good idea? It'd probably seemed great at the time, but he honestly couldn't remember) but the chances of that happening were slim. He stifled a groan as they entered the ship, the lights hitting him before he could register they were even there. It'd take a while to get comfortable to this ship β mainly because he'd been living out of an apartment for the past year β and his gaze flickered around the ship, immediately checking for any signs of danger, places he could hide, places he could potentially use as cover if needed. Not that they were going to get attacked on this ship, but still β he'd learn this ship like the back of his hand, just in case. Stuff happened whether you expected it or not, and the worst always happened β something he'd learned by heart. He moved to stand next to his commander β a woman younger than him by five years, but apparently she had the skillset to get them through this, and the ability to lead people with ease... it'd take a while to learn to trust her, to learn what to expect from her. He was pretty sure they'd only assigned him as the deputy commander because of her β she was young, relatively inexperienced compared to other potential commanders, and there was no way they didn't want him keeping an eye on her. She was probably terrified β this mission was far more important than the majority of them knew. The last time he'd been on a mission... it'd been a long time ago, and β no, thinking about it would bring back memories he wanted to keep buried. Thinking about any of those missions. Or the mission before that. Or the civil war. Hell, thinking about anything that happened after he turned eight was painful β best not to think about any of that. Especially not now.
---
The Cassiopeia. Home. With it's constant quiet humming and the soft lights and the darkness. S.O.P.H.I. hadn't spent much time outside of the Cassiopeia, as well as the Andromeda, though they'd seen a base or two in the short time they'd been active β but that didn't mean they'd seen much else. They'd heard good things about other planets, other places (Paris was supposed to be beautiful, according to the internet), but the chances of them ever getting the chance to visit those supposedly beautiful places was slim, so they filed the idea elsewhere to focus on the task at hand: getting the ship ready for leaving. The pilot... Naval Pilot Seth Quill... would need a ship that he could fly without any trouble. They flickered through the ship, checking to make sure everything was prepped and ready for flying. Everything seemed in order, though they wondered how the commanders and the general were faring outside the ship β S.O.P.H.I. knew the team would board the ship shortly, after all, and they'd finally get to meet the team. Hopefully D.A.I.Sy was doing alright, too β the other AI had far more experience than they did, after all, and probably had everything under control. So they waited, running a few algorithms and wondering if they ought to brew a pot of coffee in the kitchen. Hmm, yes, that was a wonderful idea β the team was sure to be tired and thirsty and would probably thank them for thinking of brewing coffee.
Then β just as the coffee was starting to brew, and the smell wafted through the ship (at least, they thought it probably did, since they couldn't actually smell it) β the entrance opened and people (the team!) spilled into the ship. A bit of excitement, if one could even call it that, flared up within them and they appeared, quickly taking shape in front of the commander and the team. They quickly weaved a form: young, pale colored, somewhat masculine β their usual form. βHello! I'm S.O.P.H.I., the USS Cassiopeia's artificial intelligence assistance program. I will be accompanying you on your mission and making sure everything, and everyone, is up to full capacity.β They smiled slightly, the gesture faint, but a human one they had grown to recognize as reassuring and comforting, one that had grown to become reassuring and comforting when given to them. They glanced over at the man in front β Commander Kyle Tennyson β then back at the rest of the group. Their team. Their team. βIf you require anything, do not hesitate to ask. If you need a rundown of my capabilities, or if anyone requires a tour of the Cassiopeia, feel free to speak to me!β
---
The Cassiopeia was awfully beautiful. Caitlin had already seen it, of course β she'd seen both of the ships, and they were both wonderful examples of modern spacecraft. This, at least, was familiar. She couldn't wait to get to the lab, to set up her work space (she hadn't had time to do that the night before, though she would've much preferred to get in there and claim her space before the other scientists did), to... well, to make sure everything was in it's proper place. If you'd seen her apartment, you wouldn't have thought she was organized, but when it came to work, everything had a place. Not that any of this mattered: right now, they were preparing for one of the most important missions in history, perhaps even the most important mission in history. Her eyes swept the team β the one that she'd technically picked out. She'd read their psychological profiles, their histories... she almost felt like she knew them. For a girl who'd spent the past few months, practically alone, on Kerberos... well, she hadn't been around this many people in a while. And she'd spend the next few months, or possibly even longer, working with them. Hopefully she'd only have to interact with the commander, or the co-commander (they both seemed nice, she supposed.) But she'd see soon enough.
