Larkspur had found a place to sit near the edge of the crowd of cats, and glanced around while she waited for the meeting to start. She curled her blue-gray tail around her paws to get comfortable, while her eyes adjusted to the growing darkness. Still, something about this seemed strange, why were there so many cats? Was the dwindling prey really that big a threat? Her thoughts were interrupted by a kitten's yowl. The young she-cat sniffed. It looked like felines of all ages were gathering to hear what the important cat had to say.

Lady was practically bouncing, her big blue eyes round. She'd never seen so many cats! Spotting her friend, Red, she squeezed through the crowd, calling the she-cat's name. "Red! Oh Red-! Oooh!" She bumped into someone, her slightly swollen belly jostling her. "Oh excuse me- Cosmo!" Lady smiled widely. "I thought you'd be preparing for the London show! What a surprise to see you out here" The warmth of seeing another show cat licked through her veins. "We will catch up later, it really is good to see you." Let it be said that the ragdoll was a whirlwind of energy and she whisked herself off to the rogue she'd been heading towards. "Isn't this exciting?" She squealed, settling down next to Red. Red snarled in response to Susanna, and turned to Lady smiling pleasantly. The herbd she had given her had helped immensely. "Pretty exciting, though i just want to get going. I cant stand the city and half the cats here." Red griped. Cosmo flashed a smile to Lady. She had always understood what it meant to be a show cat. "Well I decided-" He stopped abruptly since she had walkes away to talk to a ginger shecat in the corner. "Talk later!" He called after her.

Susanna laughed. Back when she was living on the outskirts of Cutthroat Corner, she had heard the now-old rumors that Red was once a kittypet. Sure, the rumors stopped- but to Susanna, she wasn't going to live it down. She would use her knowledge later when Red was really trying to do something heinous. Who could ever take her seriously when they knew she was just a house cat trying to fit in?

As Annie chattered, it occured to Sky that she didn't know that she was mute. Sky was about to explain that she couldn't speak when Chester came bounding over at Annie's summons to the dark she-cat's relief. Sky's winced slightly at the high sound of the bell on the collar around Chester's fluffy ginger neck as she dipped her head in the same friendly greeting she had given Annie. She had noticed it before and not thought much of it; she had often seen housecats sunning themselves in the patches of grass outside Twoleg nests wearing them. Now, she wondered how he would ever hunt with it. Maybe it's better to not be able to make a sound.. she thought ruefully, repositioning herself on the cold floor. At least until my voice comes back. If it comes back.. Sorrow seemed to cloud the she-cat's normally bright blue gaze as she considered this dire thought for a moment.
Must stay positive. She brushed the thought away, as she did so often with her troubles, and hastily licked her chest fur to cover her obvious distraction, hoping she hadn't come across as rude. If there was one thing Sky valued, it was being polite.
It was only then that she realized Annie was staring at her expectantly, still waiting for her to tell her her name. Sky swallowed. The difficult moment was here. She looked anxiously at Chester, hoping he would fill Annie in.

"Oh, Annie, I forgot to mention. Her name is Sky, and she doesn't seem to talk. She is very friendly, though," said Chester, even though his definition of a friend was anything better than Giovanni.

Sky breathed a sigh of relief, thanking Chester silently for his presence of mind. She nodded in agreement, pointing to her mouth with her tail and shaking her head. Please, please don't let her want to hear the whole story.. she begged whatever upper force there was out there. To distract the talkative kits from the subject, she looked around and spotted a mossball. She batted it towards the two kits.

Annie blinked at Chester's explanation, "Oh. Okie dokie then, nice to meet you Sky!" Despite popular belief, the ginger blonde poof ball did indeed notice shifts in attitude. Sky very clearly didn't want to talk about it. "Nice to meet you too Chester- MOSSBALL!" Annie dove for it, tucking into a clumsy roll whens she landed, letting out a grunt and a small dust cloud spread from the ground. She sneezed, crossing her eyes, but in her paws, was the moss ball Sky had batted towards them.

"How is your shoulder?" Lady's gaze flicked to the wound, now uncovered and free of poultice. It wasn't swollen, instead a healthy pink. "It looks good, compared to when we started. No sign of infection, but let me know if it starts to itch." Admittedly, perhaps she shouldn't be giving out advice while at a meeting but in her defense, it hadn't even begun yet – Ah. She spoke too soon. Storm was straightening up on the pile of boxes, staring down at the group with an impassive expression and she had a feeling it would begin shortly.

Chester was about to pounce at Annie's miss ball, but was immediately diverted by Storm crawling on the boxes. Giovanni had a "get this over with already" look on his face, Rabbit was slowly regaining memory, and Susanna and Rosina were fully listening. Chester was listening too- he was just a bit more confused about what was going on. Did the wild cats do this every night?

Storm let out a loud cough to get everyone's attention before he barreled on. "Most of you know why we are here, and those who do not, well, I will give a brief explanation" He paused, eyes roving over the crowd, "For those of us who live on the streets, you've noticed the increasing scarcity of prey, and those that can be found often cause sickness and even death to those who can't get past the fever." Storm continued, describing all the ways cats have been dying on the streets in the past season. "Disease has increased– tell me when was the last time you rogues had a clean bit of water to drink that wasn't stolen from a house cat's bowl? When was the last time you managed to find a decent place to sleep that wasn't immediately threatened by others searching for a safe place, or stray dogs, or stars forbid– the cat snatcher?" His voice was raising, thundering as it echoed around the chamber. "When was the last time your stomach was full, actually full, with decent food? When was the last time you weren't utterly terrified of winter's approach? When was the last time you didn't worry about your kittens? Your siblings? Your friends?"
Lady looked appalled, she had no idea what kind of life the cats around her had been living. "Is it really that harsh?" she whispered to Red, eyes round with worry as her tail curled around her belly.
Annie was silent before leaning over to Chester and Sky and whispered, "My sister got the fever after eating a mouse she caught. She didn't make it two days." Simple, short and sad.

{ CARP i missed it :^( } Alix's face was still flushed. When they walked into the nest, embarrassment wasreplaced by awestruck. So many cats were in this one nest! When Trace walked away, she was somewhat surprised. "Well, bye!" She called but he had already gone to an aggressive looking ginger she-cat. She had to shake herself to remind herself that Trace lived with a group of cats, and he wouldn't want to sit with her, a cat he'd just met, over his close friends. Alix tried to find a face in the crowd she knew, until one handsome face stood out. "Giovanni!" She thought suddenly. Should she go sit with him? Should she say hello to him. Their encounter was pretty passive aggressive. Scrap that. It was pretty aggressive, at least the beginning. By the end that had been replaced by uneasy neutrality, and a strange feeling when she left him. Pushing that thought aside and not really knowing where to sit, she stayed still.

Giovanni laughed. "I've been stealing from the fish market here and I've been just fine! The real problem is when my servant complains about not getting food for five days. What a selfish jerk. And why should I worry about other cats?" Giovanni wasn't asking for attention; he was just giving side comments to the cats around him.
Susanna and Rosina nodded- one in agreement and their her just following suit. Actually, Rosina was just glad to have escaped her Twolegs and wasn't listening to Storm all that much.
Chester nodded in understanding. "What was her name? Was she like me or more quiet or..."

Storm's ears twitched but he didn't acknowledge the outburst, which he attributed to Giovanni's incessant need for attention. "For those who-" "Why should we care? We're all going to die anyway" An arrogant voice piped up, cutting off the grey male. Gold eyes narrowed in on the male, Jagged, a rogue who used to roam Cutthroat Corner. "Jagged, you've been against leaving since I brought it up. Why are you here?" Storm kept calm, although he was frustrated he was being interrupted. "To make sure no one falls for your stupid plan to leave, of course. You're an old man, why should anyone follow you? I bet you couldn't win a fight against even your own daughter, and I'm talking about the dead one. How can you lead us anywhere if you can't keep a kit alive?" Jagged was being deliberately antagonistic, he and Storm had a long history of aggression between them and Storm knew he had to step up or the whole journey would fall before it even started. "Care to make a wager, then?" Storm was impassive in his response, molten eyes glaring down at the much younger male. "If I win, you leave with your life. If I lose.. well. What would you want?" Storm's proposition appealed to Jagged, who was greedy for territory. "I want the Shallows. If I win, I get the pleasure of taking the Shallows as my own territory." It was an auspicious request, the Shallows was a desirable area, in the city's prime it was considered a good place to find prey consistently. "Deal."
"Her name was Shadow– she was my older sister. She had black fur and a few scars on her face from... I dunno what. But she was the best big sister I could have asked for. She kept me safe, made sure I didn't wander, we played and she taught me how to pounce..." Annie's voice grew very quiet, mournful. Her eyes stared up at Storm, half listening, half remembering. "She was the one Dad could count on, his responsible kit. I'm too little to hunt properly, so Shadow helped him out when Trace was chasing some she-cat around." Of course Annie snapped to attention when Jagged challenged Storm. Eyes rounding, she shrunk back. "That guy always comes around at night and yells at Dad, saying that the day Dad wasn't around... he'd get rid of us and take what should be his. Dad never left us alone after that, unless he had to."

Larkspur's ears flattened when the important cat finished speaking. She hadn't thought about it that way before.. Sure, prey was scarce, but she hadn't heard that it was this bad, let alone there being a disease! How long would she have gone, thinking everything was all right, when just outside her small patch of territory cats were dying? Suffering? Who knows, she herself could've caught some random rat thinking it was safe to eat but died three days later from some horrid disease! This was not okay. Not at all. Larkspur looked back up to the pile of boxes where the cat sat, pricking her ears to hear what else there was to be said.
They're going to leave?! Larkspur thought as a cat spoke out from the crowd. I.. wasn't expecting that..

Giovanni's eyes sparkled with interest when Jagged contradicted Storm. "Ooh, a fight! I can't wait for it to get physical," he said. Rabbit didn't nod his head in agreement, which wasn't very usual. The servant almost always nodded to avoid getting clawed apart by his master, but tonight he was too tired to want a fight.
Chester listened to Annie, ignoring Jagged in the background. "She sounds like a nice cat... I wish I knew her."

[ Just some reactions~ uvu ]
Jackdaw
To say the least, Jackdaw was impressed by Storm's speech. The tom sure had a way with words, very compelling and encouraging. Definitely good reasons for why we would want to leave. he thought. His good eye drifted over to the cat whom had spoken out, Jagged. He could tell that he wasn't as experienced and was certainly younger than Storm, considering the fact he didn't have many valid reasons for why they should not leave. Jackdaw's ears perked up slightly in interest, genuinely surprised when the challenge arose. This should be interesting... The black tom rose to his paws and made his way further back, curious to see what would happen.
= = =
Azalea
The she-cat's worries were temporarily put aside when the tom named Storm spoke out. Azalea was shocked to hear all the things that have happened to some of these cats. Geez... that's really harsh, she thought, taken aback. And I never had a clue that this is what these guys are going through. She had come so some sort of realization that this could be a reason why she left. She could actually still be loyal, be loyal to these cats who have gone through so much to be willing to give up everything to find a better place to survive. Just then things took a sudden turn when a challenge arose. Oh? Already sitting in the back, the chocolate tortoiseshell craned her neck to get a better view of what what happening.

"Yeah, she was great. What about you? Do you have any siblings?" Annie asked, turning her grey eyes on Chester with curiosity glimmering within them.
Storm carefully made his way down the boxes, where he stood in front of Jagged, standing still. The younger male bounced around, claws out and a smirk on his face. He was underestimating his opponent, having never actually seen the older tom fight. Few have. "Ready to go down, old man?" "Come at me when you're ready" was the simple, calm response. It irritated Jagged, he was being treated like one of Storm's useless wards. He launched himself at the larger male, claws out and teeth bared. Stormed moved swiftly, meeting Jagged with more strength than the younger male anticipated. There was much grappling and a snarl or two escaped the fighting males but it was over in mere moments. In the end, Storm was standing, head bowed with Jagged's throat in his large jaws. The smaller male was lying still, breathing frantic and eyes round with terror. His life was just one move away from ending and he knew it. However, never let it be said that Storm was not merciful, for he tossed the male roughly away, Jagged bleeding and bruised. "Do not let me catch you here again." Turning his back, Storm prepared to walk away if not for the fierce yowl coming from the defeated tom. It was a break of terms, and Storm was now in the right to end it in whatever way he deemed necessary. Believe you, me, it ended the way it needed to. Blood was cooling and Storm stood over Jagged's body, crimson staining his paws and flecked his muzzle. "It didn't have to come to this," he murmured, regretfully. "And now his path has ended."
Lady had shrunk into Red's side, trembling. She'd never actually seen a body before, much less someone get murdered in front of her eyes.
Annie didn't seem to worried for her father, knowing he'd win and she was no stranger to death. "And now his path has ended" She murmured, grey eyes lowering.

Larkspur wrinkled her nose as the scene in front of her ended. If this cat wanted people to go with him, he shouldn't be killing other cats in front of them all. Granted, the now dead one started it, but still. It's kind of hard to tell if a cat wants peace when they kill. And now her mind was filling with doubts.

Jackdaw blinked, his face emotionless as he watched the young tom's life slip in the matter of moments. And so it ends...
Azalea's eyes widened in surprise and shock, watching the fight go on to see it over in the mere blink of an eye. She had seen fights before, but she never witnessed someone die in front of her like this before. She wasn't horrified, but it certainly was a different experience. The she-cat took it to heart, realizing she might end up in a situation one day where she would have to fight for her life.

"It's been six seasons since I've had to take a life. But the rules of the rogues are simple and finite. He broke the deal when he attacked my turned back. He will receive a proper burial." Storm grimaced, looking like he very much hated having to kill. However, he knew Jagged and he knew that the male would not have stopped, not until he was dead or he won. The tom was brutal and had no moral compass. In short, those who knew him could agree that he was very much insane. "I apologize for the violence. I also understand if there are those of you who are.. hesitant, now that you've seen what happens, has been happening. Jagged knew full well that once we left he could have the Shallows. But that wasn't the point. He did not want them when they were free, he wanted to take them. He wanted to humiliate. We are dying here, and not just because we're murdering each other for plots of land that have no prey to begin with. We're dying because we're crushed together in a vacuum of space that keeps getting smaller and smaller. The more kits are born, the less prey there is, the more we starve, the more we fight because we need to fight to live. When we leave, we leave together, as allies, not as enemies. We will find a place with enough land for everyone to claim, for everyone to have a home and there will be no need to fight over a den."
