Here's my rant: Dovewing is a selfish beast who only cares about herself. I know people are saying "But, she wants to be happy!" Well, she has caused a lot of trouble and pain toward other cats just so she could be with Tiger 2.
For one thing, Dovewing doesn't care about the warrior code. She lies... and she lies a lot. She sneaks out of camp to see her WindClan friend, dragging her sister along and misses cats outside the Clan. She lies to Jayfeather and Lionblaze about Tigerstar and refuses to tell the truth. Then she starts seeing him every night and lies right in Ivypool's face. She screams at Ivypool and calls her a horrible cat in Night Whispers, telling her she'll make her entire Clan hate her. It's in the book, you have to find the quote yourself.
THEN, Tigerstar freaking KIDNAPS Ivypaw, and Ivypaw is pissed when she finds out Dove told him about the herbs. Dove is literally spitting lies to her sister and telling ShadowClan cats ThunderClan secrets.
She finally breaks up with Tiger, then Tiger is angry about why they'd broken up. He doesn't leave her alone and Ivy tries to protect her.
Then Dovewing is awful to Bumblestripe, only being with him because he's not Tigerstar, and she's constantly snapping and hurting his feelings.
Then she starts seeing Tigerstar again, and this time she gets pregnant. Ivypool's pissed off and tries to find her because Dovewing decides to go to the guardian cats. She makes her Clan and Ivypool sick with worry but she doesn't care. She only goes back to the Clans because of Tigerstar. Then she leaves Ivypool disappointed, knowing she betrayed her Clan and expects them to not be angry with her.
And finally, Dovewing has her kits. She's not even a good mom, she and Tiger make Shadowsight watch Ashfur and Shadowsight puts Dovewing in danger because he told the truth. And on the new The Ultimate Guide book Dovewing wants to see Ivypool again because she's worried about MISSING her
Does this cat have a brain? She's stupid and selfish, and doesn't think. I don't understand why she has fans. And Ivypool has done everything she can to help protect Dovewing but all Dovewing does in return is disappoint Ivypool and leave her for a bad mate.

Ivypool is no better than Dovewing. She was a horrible "spy" If she could even be called that with how little spying she actually did for TC. She is also not free from the selfish claim. She got so jelly because dove was so special she followed a demon cat into hell to learn how to be a murderer??? How can you (or any cat taken there to train) be so naive to actually believe that any of that is good for your clan? Open them eyes! You're in cat hell!
Point is. they are all horrible characters if all you do is point out their faults? They've all got strengths too!

Again, when you phrase it completely like that, it's not all that useful for a conversation. Both Dovewing and Ivypool's have their faults, but that's why they are effective characters to me.
I personally like Dovewing especially because of her being thrust into a position she's not ready for. In the end, she's the kit out of the three, and it shows. She wasn't ready for the responsibility of her powers, but she does what she thinks is best with them. It's because she hears everything that she is so concerned with other clan: She'd heard them just as much as she hears cats in ThunderClan. Breaking the warrior code isn't always bad, and Dovewing shows that. It wasn't selfish for her to want to help her friends she made on the journey at all IMO. I love that she simply doesn't fit into clan society because of the way she was born, and I love her conflictions with working with Jay and Lion because those two basically use both sisters as informants, not really as equal partners. They aren't really friends.
I think that her feud with Ivypool is also interesting and justified from both of their points of view. Dovewing can be very aloof, especially with the warrior code and her own clan and Ivypool was genuinely following evil cats just because she was jealous of her sister. As for the Bumblestripe storyline, I found it to be a nice example of clan pressure creating a relationship that works for neither party, and it's actually nice to see a breakup in WC. The Tigerstar II situation wasn't handled all that well (I really hate Tigerheart's Shadow...), but still, I don't really fault her for moving since she wasn't always made to feel comfortable in ThunderClan.

I'm always surprised to see people love Dovewing or Ivypool to hate her sister.
For me, they are inseparable in my appreciation of their respective characters. Dovewing and Ivypool would be much less successful characters without their opposition. If they are so interesting and understandable, each in their own way, it's because they can be as cruel, unfair, jealous and mean as each other. Both their positions are valid.
You're free to not like Dovewing, but I find it very strange to hate her because of her... Flaws. That's what makes her a complex and interesting character, precisely.

Ivypool at least tried her best, and only did a bad job as a spy because there was nothing to report! It isn't entirely her fault and she did her best. I prefer Ivypool, she's such a nicer character compared to Dovewing. C: |

To be honest I like pretty much all of the character’s with the exception of a few. Every character has their strengths and weaknesses and I for the most part enjoy them. That’s why I don’t have a favorite character because for me it changes all the time the same being said for favorite clan and arc. The simple answer is I don’t have a favorite I pretty much like them all.

My guess is this is aqua? Or is it someone else that always comes back and make a "I hate Dovewing" thread. Idk, some trolls always come around though ranting about either Dovewing or Ivypool excessively and then just keep ban hopping. It was speculated to be Aqua back in July of last year but I can’t remember if they were ranting about Dovewing or Ivypool. Either way, it just happens every now and then. |

You'd be surprised. Even when people supposedly like a character a lot, they still get on obvious troll accounts to start arguments. That way they can make one or the other side look "worse" and make people defend the character they personally like. It's a weird way to get gratification tbh. It happens a lot too when people from other platforms show up here to try and stir up problems on the forums. At the end of the day, these types of threads don't change my opinions on characters, and they're kinda a waste of time. I'd rather have a respectable conversation and debate about topics... not whatever mess this is. |
