So one thing i noticed after reading the whole book. At the end Bristlefrost actually seems to create/enter Ivypool‘s dream and talks to her directly and even touches her cheek to Ivypool’s.
Doesnt that mean that she could have visited her the whole time? The dreams before were all nightmares, but this one started as one and then stopped beeing one immediately. Rootspring had the same one too.
She was most likely the voice in Ivypool‘s head too, on the River of Spirits. So she could have talked with her too.
I love the book, but these parts confuse me.
Here the scene:
Ivypool charged down the slope to hurl herself into the fight at her daughter’s side. But as she reached Bristlefrost, the Dark Forest dissolved, and Ivypool found herself standing beside the lake in the quiet evening light with waves lapping peacefully at her paws. Bristlefrost purred as she pressed her cheek against her mother’s. Her sweet scent wreathed all around Ivypool. “Oh, Bristlefrost, I’ve missed you so much,” she mewed, her heart breaking all over again. “I can’t stand losing you!” “You haven’t lost me.” Bristlefrost blinked at her affectionately. “I’m everywhere. You only need to look for me.” As she spoke, her body and the lake and woodland around her began to fade. Finally all that Ivypool could see was her daughter’s blue-green gaze, calm and full of love. Then even that disappeared, and Ivypool opened her eyes to find herself in her nest under the bushes.
Would be cool if they used this again in the next arc. Moonpaw is her niece after all. Doubt it though.

I think that the dream is more symbolic than anything. Ivypool and Rootspring have learned to let go, and as they do, their nightmares of Bristlefrost become acceptance that they will be okay, and will always carry her memory with them. Bristlefrost can’t actually talk to them and isn’t really conscious anymore, and I’m pretty sure Ivy and Root were just dreaming.

Pretty sure that’s just a regular dream projected by her subconscious. Similarly to how he earlier dreams of Bristlefrost in the DF were her mind’s imagining warped by grief, this later dream symbolizes how her mindset has evolved to be more hopeful.
