|| Faunastar's not failed to pick a deputy because of grief, she's failed to pick a deputy cos her options are idiots
Let me get this straight its a choice between:
1. The ninny who let his heavily pregnant wife out of camp because she looked at him pretty, or, 2. The numnuts who insisted on fighting a fox the size of a bear.
I think the clan can manage without

Dawnspirt "Makes sense" Dawnspirt said. Maybe a good walk would help clear Coffeefinsh's head and let him have a peaceful night. "I'll think about it" She didn't usually take walks, but she would if she left so inclined. Maybe if something exciting didn't happen soon. Or she could go and talk to Beesong, it was always nice to catch up with the brown tom.
"Well, if you end up going I hope you feel better" Dawnspirt said, making up her mind. She was sore and slightly tired today, and she really only wanted to rest. If she was needed elsewhere she would go, but a walk didn't sound too appealing, and they didn't need prey at the moment, there were two hunting patrols plus it seemed Ashbreeze and Scorchdawn had gone out.
She/Her - Warrior busybee Bittermeadow The idiot! He's going to get us all killed! It seemed the storm grey tom had listened to their suggestions, and ignored them! "But-" They tried to protest, but now Stormfur was stalking up behind the fox, giving the rest of the patrol no choice but to follow. Bittermeadow crept behind Stormfur, their pelt pricking with unease as they watched the fox munch on its prey.
They looked back at Coastivy, but Stormfur was top far ahead and too determined to drive away the fox that they couldn't turn him around. Bittermeadow quietly made their way over to Stormfur, trying to calm down. I really, really don't want to die. But, if I do, Stormfur definitely won't be deputy! They didn't know why that made them so happy, maybe just because Stormfur did stuff like this all the time. Not very good for the clan.

(Let it be known, I never said he would be a good deputy. I just was saying he wanted it XD ) StormfurWarrior * 52 moons * He/Him * tagged; ladylantsov Dew busybee --------------------------------------------------------------------- As Stormfur stalked up behind the fox, everything in the forest fell silent. Watching this monster rip at the kill made something within him so inexplicably angry. Maybe it's because he knew that as a kit with no origin, left in the forest with no one to aid him, he could have been that piece of fresh kill once. If not for Dragonflystar, he definitely would of been. He thought about the cat that was gone, that was the closest thing to a father he had ever known. Something within him believed that because this was Dragonflystar's forest once, it was now Stormfur's duty to protect it in his honor. Even if it was stupid. Even if it cost him his life. He knew that if things got bad, the other two would run and leave Stormfur to his fate. After all, it was his fault they were out here in the first place. Just as he prepped himself to pounce at the fox, claws fully extended, he kinked his tail as an order to the others behind him. He made a silent prayer to Starclan as he took the leap.

Firehawk on patrol with Breezewing, Cricketpaw and Goldenshade [X] . VeniVidiVici . [X] tumblepaw Firehawk glances at the dead bird before glancing back at Breezewing. A part of him wanted to avoid all of this but decided to just keep it to himself. Last thing he wanted was to end up sick! Letting out a sigh, he starts looking around for any large looking leaves. Just great, we have no deputy and prey is just dropping dead with no explanation! What's next the sky turning red? The moon disappearing! He really hoped that this was just a one time thing. If they didn't have the prey to survive leaf-fall then by leaf-bare they would be dropping like flies! Pausing his thoughts for a moment, he spots some large looking leaves and walks over to get a better look at them.

BreezewingBreezewing noticed Firehawk walk away. He followed the warrior with his eyes, pleased to see that they led to some larger leaves. Breezewing trotted over to the area, opening his mouth to scent the air. “I don’t believe these are poisonous…” he said, giving the leaves a poke with his paw. Breezewing hadn't gone through herb training - he wasn't a medicine cat, after all - but his mentor had taken the time to point out the venomous and poisonous plants that grew on their territory. "It is the duty of every clan cat to not just defend lives in battle, but to protect lives with every step we take." His mentor had rumbled, almost purring, as if very pleased with his abilities as a teacher. Funny old cat, Breezewing thought momentarily, remembering his mentor. But it is a scary thought...that prey could turn out to be the poisonous thing.
“Right. Let’s get more than we think we need. That way we can definitely get that bird in the whole first try.” Breezewing dragged himself out of his memories with this command. It would do no good to stand around, worrying about dangerous freshkill. He had to protect his clan, after all. And with that, Breezewing gingerly placed his mouth on the stem of a leaf, doing his best not to tear it.

He gave a nod at Breezewing's instructions, his nose wrinkling in degust one more time at the piece of poultry before turning to pad several fox-lengths away, finding some softer dirt with fewer roots from nearby greenery and trees running through it that he could dig through. Scooping away pawfuls of dirt he stepped away for one moment to go look at the size of the bird once more, returning to gauge the size of the whole and making it a bit larger. "That should be good. A little deeper than necessary, but I feel that's safer so nothing will be inclined to dig it back up either. Now you stay back, Cricketpaw, last thing I want is you getting sick from this thing. I'll help Breezewing and Firehawk." With that he padded back over to the other two toms and joined them in carefully collecting larger leaves. Florastorm ⤁ Nusery-With Rowanfire ladylantsov ⬽

She gave a frown at the tom's response and turned away from him, moving to pad to the entrance to the nursery. "If you won't go with me then I'll just figure out a way to go alone." Always a stubborn one and not one to be kept from what she wants she marched out the den, her gray fur seeming to almost brighten in the sunlight, revealing lighter shades of gray within her downy soft fur. She gazed around the clearing, taking in who was still around and what was going on. Her sister was nowhere to be seen again, Coffeefinch and Dawnspirit were chatting, Beesong was sitting alone; everything seemed pretty calm. No one would mind if she left for a stroll on such a pleasant day. Especially since with her kits about to come and leaf-bare almost on the way she would be stuck in camp for quite a time and wanted to get out one more time while she still could. She turned to look back toward her mate. "The clan would probably be more mad at you if they found out I left alone than if you went with me and were there to protect me." The prey had become scarcer lately, and the fox was on edge, his hair prickling as he crunched on the bird, breaking the hollow bones with ease in it's jaw. It's tail lashed behind it, once, twice, and then it pricked it's ears. One twisted back, the other followed. It knew that it was no longer alone. And this was a beast that felt no fear. The air seemed to shift and time almost felt like it moved slower as it more sensed than heard Stormfur pounce. It moved in flash, quick as a whip as red fur flashed by and red stained teeth were revealed only to disappear mere moments later into long black fur. The jaws of the creature secured themselves tightly across Stormfur's side easily with the difference in size and it was kit's play for the fox to lift the hefty warrior from his feet, a blazing rage searing in its amber eyes, and shook the tom viciously, biting down harder with each moment that passed.

Cricketpaw watched as her mentor scooped out pawfuls of dirt. Goldenshade really went out of their way for this, explaining to her as they dug why. “Who would be mousebrained to dig it up though?” she asked but she didn’t really expect an answer.
She made a few attempts to dig at the hole to help as well but found it a bit too difficult. That meant putting half her weight onto her weak leg while she dug with her front legs. Just too hard to stay balanced and upright, with her back leg shaking a bit in response. So much for digging to the other side of the territory!
Cricketpaw gave up and sat down a little ways away to watch the older cats like her mentor told her to do. She couldn’t help thinking that it was like they were having a vigil for the bird for all the trouble they were going thru to bury it. That made her wonder: did birds have a Starclan too?
Another kinda boring one for Cricketpaw but mentors can’t let their young apprentices handle diseased birds. Which is probably good because the dead bird did freak her out a bit. Hopefully things get more exciting for her later.

StormfurWarrior * 52 moons * He/Him * tagged; ladylantsov Dew busybee --------------------------------------------------------------------- The yowl that escaped Stormfur's jaws was indescribable. From his perspective, it was loud enough for the whole forest to hear. In a desperate attempt to save his own life, he wildly swung his claws toward the fox's eyes. Anything to get him to let go. Anything to not die right here, right now. He couldn't tell if he was landing any of his blows, the only thing that was even keeping him conscious right now was the adrenaline flowing through him. Just a mind full of white hot rage and ice cold fear.

Bittermeadow Bittermeadow had a brief moment of hesitation after Stormfur was picked up, as if the warrior was just another piece of prey. They bunched up their muscles and leaped onto the foxes back, biting into the scruff of the male fox. They dug their claws into the patchy fur, detirmed to make sure the fox let go of the annoying warrior.
This is what he deserves though, Ha! We knew we should have gotten reinforcements! Now Stormfur might die, they might all actually die? Well, Stormfur is going to be brutally injured after this. No chance he is going to be deputy now!

COASTIVY
Coastivy surged forward, intent on grabbing his clanmate by the scruff and dragging him back to camp if it was the last thing he did, but Stormfur was too quick, too intent on his own destruction. The tom’s muscles tense, coiling to spring in a different direction, intervene with the smoke grey warriors path before he could get any closer.
But it was already too late. Moving now would only alert the fox, and be the end of the three of them.
“The mousebrain is going to get himself killed,” Coastivy hisses through gritted teeth. While Coastivy couldn’t pretend that Stormfur was one of his friends, the Tom was still a clanmate, and unfortunately the warrior code to protect the clan extended even to idiots. His gaze tracks the smaller Tom’s movements, heart beating so hard in his chest it surprises him that that isn’t what alerts the fox to their presence.
What happens next changes his heart from a thunder to a dead stop. As the fox lifts a russet red maw, and malicious, dark amber eyes fix onto the warrior. Glinting in the pale morning light.
With a ferocious yowl, the Tom and Bittermeadow move almost as one, closing the distance between themselves and the fox across uneven plains. His clanmate lurches foxes back, tearing into its shoulders. And Coastivy slams into the fox with force enough to rattle his brain against his skull. Tearing fangs into whatever flesh they can find. “Get off,” Coastivy snarls between tearing and clawing, “Effervescent Clan territory.”

ROWANFIRE
The russet furred Tom knew full well that if he didn’t accompany Florastorm, his mate would figure a way to leave camp anyway. At least if he was with her, she would be safe from all the threats that weren’t of her own creation. That was part of the reason he’d given in so easily - that and the fact he knew full well his mate would never let him live it down.
Rowanfire has to stifle his purr of amusement as he watches the female stand and, well waddle, toward the nursery entrance. Looking quite like a grey, fluffy thundercloud on legs, tail lifted in the air, proud and stubborn and beautiful. Rowanfire chuckles, but, knowing full well she’d swipe an ear off his head if she caught him grinning at her rounded state. He rather wanted to meet these kits he’d fathered, and Florastorm was more than capable of raising them alone if she grew tired of him.
Stars knew she’d had a queue of toms long enough when it came to picking a mate, by miracle alone she’d chosen him. He knew to stay in the stubborn queen’s good books.
He follows her, pace slow as to keep to her shoulder. Keeping an eye on her as well as camp.
Mercifully it was largely empty - the leader now out of sight and patrols having departed to their various destinations. “Around the perimeter of camp, and home,” Rowanfire repeats, more sternly to the younger shecat. Suddenly his mind runs wild with rampant visions of the shecat bolting into the woodlands the moment they were out of camp. “I’m not above carrying you home if I’m forced to,” he added a little playfully.
He leaps, landing on the log out of camp, movements swift and easy as the flow of water. Aided by moons of experience, he leans down to help the more cumbersome shecat so the same. “Lead the way, Florastar,” he grumbles.

Florastorm ⤁ Camp then Forest-With Rowanfire ladylantsov ⬽

She gave a shake of her head at the tom, knowing full well that he knew she would do as she wished, she always had and always would. And if that meant taking a small stroll through the trees instead of along the rim of a dry pond, then she would do as she pleased. Letting him think he had the way for the moment though she followed him, choosing to ignore the Florastar comment and watching him move up the entrance log and then proceeding to follow, climbing up part of the way on her own with a lot of difficulty, trying to get high enough up the huge log for the tom to reach her and help her the rest of the way. She scrambled with her back paws to get up once he had gripped her, giving a huff once she was standing on the worn bark, balancing her way to the end and finding solid footing on the ground once more. "Alright, this way my love." With a swish of her tail she led the way away from the rim of the camp and toward the woods, standing up under the cover of the trees and taking in a deep breath as she took in the scents and sounds, moving further in with each step. "I missed being out in the forest. I wish I could still get up the trees. I remember spending the slow sun-highs napping up in the branches. Maybe I can teach our kits how to climb too." The molly had always enjoyed the activity, and was always quite good at it as well. Fox ⤁ Southern Border-With Stormfur, Coastivy, and Bittermeadow 𝓡𝓸𝓬𝓴𝔂 𝓑𝓮𝓰𝓲𝓷𝓷𝓲𝓷𝓰 ladylantsov Dew ⬽

Everything was a blur of malice and rage, the fox had no thoughts, no opinions, no conscious, it ran on pure predatory instinct as it clenched its jaws every tighter until it felt a crunch, the ripping at its back and side from the other two felines forcing it to finally toss the black cat in its jaws several lengths away. Whipping around it then began to attempt to get the one off of its back, bucking back and forth as it's head whipped from left to right, trying to grab any part of the cat it could. Finally it seemed to have enough and simply fell, rolling over onto the feline instead before standing back up quickly again, shaking, and repeating the series of motions a couple of times until he finally tore them from his back and he began to next try and snap at Coastivy.

ROWANFIRE
The warrior follows his mate, obedient and observant both as she leads him through the paths he knows as well as his own front feet. Before becoming a mate, he would have followed these paths without so much as a second thought, Rowanfire feared nothing in his own right. But now his mates belly swelled with his kits, every moving shadow, every swaying grass is worthy of his scrutiny.
The Gods alone could help whatever poor creature came across the pair and decided to try to help them when the Tom was like this. Part of him knew, and knew it well that Florastorm was more than capable of taking care of herself.
But he wasn’t going to give her the chance to need to.
Where sunlight leaches through the canopy of trees, it sets his coat ablaze, the darker oranges of his coat catching the palest of light, magnifying it. His nostrils flare, tasting the air for signs of danger while trying to offer his attention to the Queen.
His mate’s words, and the image of her trying to scramble her way up a tree drags Rowanfire into the hear and now again with such a violence you could practically hear the brakes screech in his brain. Stars help me if she starts hurling herself up a tree.
“If you’re wanting to raise those kittens alone my love, you can just say so rather than trying to make me meet my ancestors prematurely, I can take a hint,” the toms grumble thunders through the cavern of his chest. “You’ll give me a heart attack talking like that.”
His eyes blaze over with a fondness that is characteristic only when he’s around her, as he pictures the grey queen teaching their little ones how to climb. Little, fluffy bundles of grey scrambling up after their mother, under their father’s careful watch. The affectionate purr startles even the warrior, “If the little ones are half as good as you are at climbing, there won’t be a safe squirrel in the territory.”

His body ached practically everywhere, but mostly where the blood was leaking out from his wounds. Several times the tom tried to stumble to a stand, failing his first few attempts. If it weren't for the other two cats, he surely would have been torn to shreds. He refused to give up while adrenaline was still pumping through him. Hobbling toward the fox he weakly tried to help land swipes on the beast. His vision was so blurry he was unsure if any swipes landed, and yet he was still trying his best. He wasn't certain if he would survive this encounter, but he wasn't going to go down without a fight. Starclan, every movement was pure agony.

BreezewingAfter Breezewing had collected a few leaves, he stood back and watched as the other warriors continued to grab them. He nodded when he saw each warrior had a few. “Good.” he mumbled around the bundle of leaves in his mouth. “Let’s take this back to the bird. When Goldenshade and Cricketpaw return, we can bury it.” He slowly padded back over to the bird, setting his leaves down a tail length from it.
He took this time to give his paws a quick groom. He knew he hadn’t touched the bird, but the mere thought of whatever sickness it had getting into him was disturbing. Better to circumvent it now. { bit of a short one until everyone gets back to the bird haha }

COASTIVY
The yowl that rips from Coastivy as the foxes russet maw sinks deep into the flesh of his rear leg is one of pure, unadulterated agony. It evolves into a screech as something crunches beneath the iron jaw of the far larger beast, but Coastivy is barely aware that he’s making noise at all.
Anything and everything drowned out by the sound of his own blood rushing through his ears.
Moons of fight training suddenly mean nothing, the warrior is savage, practically rabid with the pain of it. Doing everything and anything necessary to survive even a heartbeat longer.
His ears go flat to his head, a snarl ripping from the depths of his gut as he lunges again. Paws scrabbling to find purchase on uneven earth, swiping until his claws drag through deep red fur. Spilling blood of an even more violent red, it splashes in gushes, staining the long grasses a rich crimson.

Bittermeadow Bittermeadow hadn't really expected the fox to know advanced fighting moves, and they let out a squeal as they were crushed by the giant fox. The bucking had been hard to stay onto, but the fact that they had dug their claws into the foxes back probably didn't help. Within seconds they were laying on the ground, the fox on top of them. This must be the last resort. Well, it sucked. For a moment the wind was knocked out of them, and after the fox lifted its weight from them and Bittermeadow felt they could breathe again.
An ear splitting scream makes Bittermeadow remember that they are still fighting a predator that is trying to kill them. They got to their paws, and threw themself at the fox, who was charging at Coastivy, who seemed to have forgotten everything he had learned. So it seems I'm the only one with a head on, for now. They hadn't been too hurt yet, and their mind was still clear, adrenaline filling their body as they focused on the fox.
And yes, if you were wondering, Bittermeadow had noticed Stormfur, but had ignored the tom. If he wanted to die, go ahead. Bittermeadow was going to drive off this fox. Which I wouldn't be doing right now if it wasn't for Stormfur!
Bittermeadow let out their best battle cry, and leaped at the fox again. Instead of clinging onto it this time, they landed a blow then dashed away, the shoulder, the hind leg. Not very strong blows, but hopefully enough to distract the fox from hurting Coastivy more or noticing Stormfur and finishing him off.
