Anybody going to watch the eclipse (in USA) on April 8th? I am excited because I live close to the path but people do be acting like the tourism apocalypse is going to happen around here.

I live in Canada, but probably not. I don't own any eye protection gear for the eclipse.

my teacher just said people can get long term damages or smth like that now im scared. i might, tho This is to mainly warn people to never look directly at the sun without eye protection. It’s not really an eclipse specific danger besides that people are more likely to look at the sun risking eye damage during an eclipse rather than a normal sunny day.

Yep! My parents and I are right in the path of totality in Vermont. It'll be our second one actually, we traveled to Nebraska (couple hours from Colorado where we were visiting relatives) for the 2017 one.
I work in an elementary after school program and most schools (that one included) in the area are either giving the full day off or doing a half day. I'm just hoping that 1. It's not cloudy/rainy (which it often is here) and 2. That the post-eclipse traffic isn't too bad as I'm striving to take advantage of the day off work to go to an extra choir rehearsal that evening.

I live in the path of totality which is going to be really cool!
Betting $20 it’ll be cloudy here though.

my employer told our office to WFH that day because of all the traffic lmao
but yeah i live in a major city in the path of totality and i know that a lot of the small towns around here are going to get triple their usual population in tourism. there are people renting out their backyards as "campsites" on airbnb for $150 a night on April 7/8. a co-worker mentioned her friend from california is flying here just for this two minutes eclipse. it's wild.

I have to go to Michigan that Sunday, so we're going to spend Sunday night in MI and then when we drive home the next day, much of our route is in the path of totality, so we'll stop where we can.

I saw the 2017 total eclipse (in Wisconsin) and 2021 Annular eclipse (in Vermont), so this would be my third eclipse.
I am in Virginia this time for the April 8th, 2024 eclipse. In 2017 we got 80% and here in the now in a different state we will be getting 85% at 3:16 PM exactly. I am so excited and I will be taking pictures.

You live in Vermont?! I used to live there. I lived in Milton, which is north of Burlington. I no longer live there.

I can’t watch it because it doesn’t come anywhere near Europe. I did see the one in 2017 though.

I live in a place that is in the path of totality! Sand I’d take a picture for you and everyone else, but alas, it would break my camera…

Sometimes I wish I was back in grade school. They'd give out glasses for free on days like these. Of course, I only have one day to speak of, but you know.

i'm in the path of totality but the forecast says it's gonna be cloudy apparently this will be a common issue you pretty much only get to see the eclipse if you're in ohio

Finally, a reason to be proud of my state (ohio). I’ve been wishing so bad for it to not be all cloud cover this past week, and it’s looking optimistic. I’m stoked. Columbus isn’t in the path of totality but they will see a partial eclipse. It will sweep just north of them.

Weather in VT so far looks promising. Mid 50s and sunny!
They also decided to cancel that rehearsal I had thought about going to which is probably just as well considering they're predicting insane traffic in the area so I had basically decided it wasn't worth trying to go anyway. Fortunately my family isn't planning to drive more than about 5 minutes from our house that day.

My state is in the path of totality, but I plan on catching it on a livestream. I don't have the motivation to get glasses and it's more convenient anyway.
