Timberpaw nodded and walked up to the bark, sniffing it and trying to remember the sharp smell of the sap. "Do we just claw it off?" He asked, unsheathing his claws and sitting by the tree and tilted his head curiously. "Yes," answered Emberleaf, "Just try to be gentle and don't dig down to deep. We just need the surface layer of the bark. And don't take to much bark from the same spot on any one tree or you'll permanently damage the tree and we'll lose our supply of alder bark." She then proceeded to demonstrate the technique she was talking about. |

Timberpaw nodded and watched his mentor carefully. "Okay..." The tom meowed, a bit nervous to mess it up. "I don't wanna kill the tree..." He put his paw on the bark and dragged it down, wincing as the wood splintered underneath his paws, but he had made a groove so that he got reach under it with his teeth and pull the bark off it. "Like this?" The apprentice mumbled, yanking at the bark.
