Sage Sage's ears perked forward in interest as the tom moved closer and introduced himself and his housemate. "Nice to meet you, Blaze," She a purr rumbled in her throat as smiled at him then angled her head to look past him and meet eyes with Belle with a friendly smile. "and Belle!" Her eyes wandered to the forest when Belle mentioned it and she hesitated, staring into it with interest. She had never ventured into the forest before. Before she moved, when she lived with her other twolegs, there had been a forest near the town but she didn't live right beside it, so she never explored that far. It was enticing though, looking into it now, and she felt her heart skip a beat with excitement as she imagined exploring it with her two new acquaintances. "That sounds fun!" She hopped off her fence, already trotting towards the trees. "I'll go with you!" She paused, looking back to make sure they were there as well.Belle & Beast twolegplace
Beast blinked in surprise as Sage proposed joining them, before his ears perked up and a smile flashed across his face. "Great!" He cast an excited look at Belle before following their new friend eagerly.
Belle lingered on the fence a heartbeat longer, trepidation settling in her chest, before she released it with a quiet sigh and another glance towards the dark trees. "Well, we'll be safer in numbers, at least," she reassured herself quietly, before sliding off the fence and landing with a slight stumble, wincing at the discomfort in her joints.
Beast didn't really wait for the others as he bounded towards the trees, skirting the next neighbor's fence and hopping up on a small pile of wood that occupied the narrow stretch of grass between the last house and the tree line. He lingered there for a heartbeat, amber eyes round as he stared into the damp forest. Even in the last several moons of living here, he'd never really ventured into the forest before, never had a real reason. Now, the rustling leaves almost seemed to be calling to him, rich with trees to climb and prey to chase and hollows to explore. There would be no housefolk here to shoo him away from the curtains or chastise him for sharpening his claws in the wrong place. Suddenly, the world seemed much bigger, and it filled the young tom with excitement. Tail-tip twitching with anticipation, he scurried over the old planks and into the welcoming shade of the forest.
For Belle, though, the trees seemed looming and shadowy, the breeze a foreboding whisper, and every twitch and rustle of thee branches a potential sign of danger. She couldn't stop her fur from fluffing out slightly in fear as she followed Beast to the edge of the fence, shrinking against the wooden panels as she tried not to imagine all the terrifying beasts that could be lingering out of sight. As Beast slunk off into the trees, Belle cast a wide-eyed glance at Sage, hoping that the other she-cat wouldn't take particular notice of her visible anxiety, before cautiously following her housemate into the woods.

Acorn Acorn found herself back on her original branch, where she'd been resting overnight. I should've just slept longer, she thought irritably. Still, this wasn't the worst place to get trapped. There were plenty of squirrels in the treetops, and branches close enough to neighboring trees that she really could leave at any time... maybe. They were pretty thin, and as bad as a fall would be, a fall into the dog's jaws would be worse. Plus... she wasn't heartless. Sparrow still looked pretty upset. "Well, now we've got plenty of time to get to know each other," she quipped and laid down comfortably on the branch. She groomed her face as she chattered away. "Haven't seen you around before - you traveling through?" Sparrow forest
Sparrow couldn't resist wrinkling her nose obstinately, casting an annoyed glance downward at the agitated canine below them, although she couldn't help but shiver slightly as she did so, remembering the dog's teeth snapping a hair's breadth away from her tail. It seemed Acorn had no intention of making her own escape through the trees, either because she didn't feel it was safe or, more exasperatingly, because she was determined to make conversation.
"Yes, as I mentioned," Sparrow replied, perhaps a bit more snappishly than she intended. She cast her gaze around, eyeing the dog and looking for any other possible means of escape, but it seemed for now the only choices were for her and Acorn to try to fight the dog off - dangerous and unlikely - or to simply wait for it to get bored and wander off. She settled back a bit more securely on the branch, reluctantly coming to terms with the forced conversation. "How about you? Do you stay around here, or wander?"

Fox
Fox was in pursuit of prey, following the scent trail of a squirrel, when a new scent hit his nose. He paused in his tracks, lifting his head and parting his jaws to study the scent. It was definitely another cat, but not one he recognized at the moment. He would cross paths with another loner sometimes, but it didn't happen often, and very rarely did he come across someone hostile. Fox would usually be friendly, but not too welcoming. Sometimes they would share a few words or stories over a meal, depending on how social the other wanted to be, but they always went along their own ways afterwards. The ginger tom decided he wouldn't go searching for this cat in his proximity, but if they happened to run into each other he would say a friendly greeting. Hopefully they weren't hostile or territorial - he's lived here for several moons now and wouldn't want to be asked to move away. Shaking his head, he turned his attention back to the scent of the squirrel he was after but he made sure to stay alert for the stranger coming closer.
(( we can say they have run into each other before but don't know each other well, if you'd like! I'm fine either way (: ))
(my friend: applying to PhD programs at Actual Harvard me, ostensibly an adult: animatedly explaining Cat Loreβ’)
John forest
The scent seemed familiar, but not familiar enough for John to place who, exactly, it belonged to or whether the previous run-ins with its source had been positive or not. Tail-tip flicking with curiosity and concern, the tall tom lowered his head slightly and narrowed his eyes, peering through the foliage for any other indication of who it might be. He didn't necessarily want to disturb someone who didn't want to be disturbed, but if it was a friendly acquaintance he wouldn't mind running into them by chance. He remained still for a few moments, listening to the forest... some kind of small prey shuffling through the dead leaves nearby, a pair of sparrows chasing each other through the branches above, a dog barking excitedly in the far distance, and no real sign of the other cat. He concluded they must be stalking something, and decided to remain still and alert for the time being... either they were hostile and trying to sneak up on him, or else they were stalking prey and he would hate to ruin their hunt by accident.
(maybe Fox accidentally scares the squirrel in John's direction and he helps catch it? then they can chat over a meal)

She shot a glance at Belle, meeting her eyes as the other she-cat also looked at her, and gave her an excited smile. "Come on, let's go!" She mewed, brushing her fur along Belle's side with a pleasant purr as she curried after the brown tabby ahead of her. As they padded further into the forest, she looked around to take in all the senses. New sights, smells, sounds. The adrenaline she felt pushed away any nervousness or fear, at least for the moment. Seeing a butterfly fluttering about nearby, she dropped to a crouch and pointedly wiggled her haunches before leaping towards it. She missed, but it didn't seem to bother her as she hopped up and down in excitement. "This is so fun!" She said to her companions. "Which way do we go now?" She looked at Beast with a tilted head as she asked, appointing him their unspoken leader on the venture.

Crouching down, he carefully stalked his way towards the creature, but just before he was in range it noticed him and took off. Shrike - meadow - open Shrike chose to travel to a small meadow for the day. He would go back to his nest later, but for now, he wanted to catch some prey. To be honest, Shrike was bored. Two sunrises ago, he was wandering in the forest, trying to find a decent spot to hunker down in. To his surprise, his plan had completely failed. Every corner he turned and every tree he climbed up in was not good enough for him.
So, his only sliver of hope was the meadow. Maybe he could find a deep burrow to rest in after his long trek. Surely there had to be some rabbits or mice scurrying around. Shrike carefully padded across the soft yet somewhat tall grass. He lifted his nose and maw to the air, desperate for any scent of prey. Twist - in the forest... somewhere - open Twist was not used to exploring multiple places at once. She left her Twolegs' home deliberately and wasn't going to have any qualms about it. So far, her journey had been... well, unexciting. She expected so much more from it and it wasn't like the stories she had heard from other kittypets. Maybe they had lied to her? She wasn't so sure.
Letting out a frustrated sigh, the brown and white tabby realized she was lost. The tree canopy about her was dense and barely let any light in onto the forest floor. There were plenty of trees surrounding her, but everything looked the same. Twist grumbled to herself, contemplating on what she should do next. Do I head home? Do I try to find a way out of this forest? she thought, her mind wandering aimlessly. "I don't even know where to go!" she mewed a bit too loudly.

Why leave an area perfectly ripe with prey just to have to find new hunting spots all over again?" She sniffed. "No good at all. Plus..." A hint of vulnerability crept into her voice, despite her best interests. "I've got some family in the area I need to look out for." "You been traveling a while Sparrow? Any reason why you came this way?"

(Sand, would you like to rp with Twist with me?) Pine Pine's ears flattened as he took in the she-cat's aggression. Yup, no sense mixing myself up in this, he thought, and continued with the instincts that told him to run, and to run fast. He headed back a familiar path, toward the twolegplace. He didn't mind it there so much - sure the gangs were rough, but the kittypets could be awful sweet. That, and the twolegs themselves would sometimes leave out dry pellets that, though subpar to freshkill, could be counted on when other cats bullied him away from hunting grounds. He was almost to his preferred entrance when a voice crying out caught his attention. Someone was lost? A tremble ran down his spine, but the cat sounded young, and despite his fear, he was worried. Pine approached the voice and peeked out from a nearby bush. He took in the area, searching for any danger before calling out in a soft, shy voice, "Do you need help?"

She looked at Beast with a tilted head as she asked, appointing him their unspoken leader on the venture.Belle & Beast forest's edge
Belle let out a purr of amusement, somewhat reassured by Sage's energy. At least between the three of them, she found it difficult less likely that anything might try to attack them, although there was still always a chance of getting lost....
"We should probably stay close to the-" she started to stay a bit worriedly, but she was cut off as Beast let out an excited mrrow and bolted deeper into the forest. Belle cast a half-worried, half-exasperated look at Sage before following quickly, trying not to lose the surprisingly nimble young tom in the foliage.
Beast didn't really look back to make sure that the others were following him as he was overtaken by exhilaration, having caught a flash of bright plumage through the trees. Beast had never really stalked anything by toy mice, but the scents and sounds of the forest suddenly filled him with a desire to sink his claws into fur and feathers. The bird was gone before he could even begin to catch up with it, but almost as soon as he lost sight of the bird, a pair of squirrels chasing each other through the branches above caught his attention instead. Without a second thought, he leapt towards the tree, skittering noisily up the trunk after them, although they quickly outpaced him in the canopy. Beast remained undeterred, though, as he paused for a heartbeat on a branch, ears flicking around for any sign of more prey to chase, all thought of his companions lost.
(hmmm I feel like either they can catch up to Beast and maybe be a little irate, or they could all get separated for a short while? also sorry for the delayed reply, I have some class finals and I just started a new job yesterday so it's kind of a lot haha)

John's ears twitched as he heard a commotion from nearby, whirling around just in time to see a large squirrel make a desperate leap for the safety of a tree, the sound of something cat-sized in hot pursuit behind. Instinctively, John crouched and leapt, knocking the startled rodent back down towards the ground. It scrambled for a heartbeat, shocked and trying to regain its footing, giving its original pursuer time to catch up. John hopped back as the other cat barreled into sight, not wanting to look as though he were trying to steal their prey from under their nose. He caught sight of red fur that looked familiar, but it took him a few more seconds to actually recognize the other tom.
"Oh, Fox!" he greeted, settling back on his haunches while the other cat (presumably) dispatched his prey.

[ I'd love to! Pine sounds like he's a sweetie ;w;' ] Twist - in the forest somewhere - with Pine Twist stomped her white and brown paws against the forest floor in frustration. She expected no cat to help her, so she would have find her own way out of this ordeal. Maybe she'd get lucky and find an easy way back home. She wondered if leaving her Twolegs was a big mistake. After all, she had shelter, food, and plenty of toys. But now wasn't the time to doubt. She needed a plan.
The brown and white tabby heard a strange noise. Another meow? It certainly wasn't hers. For all Twist knew, she was imagining things. Her fluffy pelt bristled in fear as she kneaded her paws against the undergrowth. Her olive green gaze turned ever so slowly, realizing that there was another cat. A small, young blue tom peered out of a nearby bush. She glanced at him briefly before quickly looking away. "You... You heard me?" Twist asked reluctantly.
The former kittypet shuffled her paws, pondering if she should trust this stranger. They didn't seem to be a threat or a danger to her. Plus, she would never get out of the forest if she didn't find someone to help her. If the stranger turned out to be dangerous, Twist would have to run like the wind and she wasn't sure if she was capable of that. "Yes, I don't know where I am," she admitted sheepishly. "I've never been here before. Who are you?"

Twist - forest - with Pine Twist watched Pine closely as he leaned away from her. She wasn't too sure about the tom just yet, though he seemed to be gentle. He hadn't harmed her anyways... Maybe she was being too cautious? At this point, Twist wasn't sure of anything at all. "My name? Oh, it's Twist," the brown and white tabby mewed back, glancing away from the blue tom.
Pine wasn't like other cats that Twist had accidentally ran into. Most were territorial rogues or bored kittypets. She did everything to avoid both groups of cats, though it was hard. Especially when she unintentionally stumbled upon their territory. It never ended well, unless the cats was much older and lazy.
Her ears pricked up in surprise as soon as she heard Pine's offer. "Oh, really? That.. would be nice. I have never been through this forest," Twist responded sheepishly. It was obvious that she had no experience living in the wild. "I don't know much about, uh, this area. None of it is familiar to me. There's so many trees, how do you know your way around? Everything looks the same!"

Any reason why you came this way?" (ooookay I got like super sick and busy for a few days so that was fun but I'm back now?)Sparrow forest Sparrow shrugged. "No, not really." Her mind flashed back to only a few moons ago with her kits. Usually, she never stayed anywhere for more than a couple nights, but she had found a suitable den and planned to settle down for at least a few moons, long enough to raise her litter. She couldn't help but grimace slightly, pushing away those memories. Now, she'd rather just be as far away from that as possible.
Before she could say anything else, though, their conversation was interrupted by another cat-screech that for a heartbeat drowned out the sound of the dog snuffling and stomping around the base of the tree. Sparrow startled, nearly dislodging her from her precarious balance on the swaying branch and causing her to scramble to regain her claw-hold. A pair of unfamiliar cats burst out of the undergrowth, launching themselves at the dog with bristling pelts and extended claws. Sparrow managed to secure herself back on the branch in time to see a massive, battle-scarred ginger tom facing down the canine, spitting and hissing fearsomely, while a smaller dilute tortoiseshell used its distraction to whip around behind it and tear at its unprotected ankles. The dog snarled at the tom before letting out a surprised whimper at the she-cat's attack, whirling around to try to snap at her, but the nimble tortie was out of the way before it could reach her. With the dog's back now turned to him, the tom now took his chance to rake his claws across the dog's flanks, and by the time the dog had turned back to him, the she-cat was nipping at its ankles again. The dog turned in a few circles, barking and snapping at both cats in turn, but it was clear that it was overwhelmed, and finally it retreated with a defeated whimper, disappearing back into the undergrowth. It was all over within a moment, and as the sound of the canine crashing through the foliage faded into the other sounds of the forest, the she-cat came to stand shyly beside her companion, who shook out his ruffled fur and looked up at the treed cats with an amused smile.
"You're welcome?" he purred with a flick of his tail. Sparrow blinked down at the mysterious pair, too shocked to say anything or move for a heartbeat, before casting an incredulous glance at Acorn.
"Um.... thanks?" she finally responded tentatively. She glanced around the forest as though double-checking that the coast was clear, before looking back at the new cats a bit suspiciously. They didn't seem hostile, and she doubted the dog would return after all that.... She grimaced as her gaze flicked to the tree-trunk, now suddenly wondering how in the stars she was going to get down.

Owl had been on his own almost his own life, trying to find a home to settle. Now, he stood at the top of a moor, gazing upon a large forest and a twolegplace.
"Oh, goodie," Acorn yawned. "Someone else took care of the problem. Always a win to me." She reclined dangerously far back on the branch, trusting her balance as she stretched. "So, who are you two?"

Twist - forest - with Pine Twist's olive green gaze was quick to follow Pine's. She glanced at the tree he was bobbing his head at as her forehead creased. "Yeah, I can see it!" she mewed, padding a bit closer to the broken branch. Maybe big storms were common in the forest. She didn't want to stay around and find out especially if it stormed tonight. "How bad was the storm? Are they common around here? I know that in the Twolegplace, things usually got thrown across my yard," Twist meowed, rambling on about her dull experience.
While Pine looked away, the brown and white tabby focused on the tree once more. She wondered how such agile cats could climb trees so perfectly. "Oh! Um, I'm not sure if I wanna go to the Twolegplace," Twist responded as her voice wavered. "It's kind of a long story. I haven't been back to the Twolegplace in a while... Well... I'm not sure if I should go back, y'know? Is it really smart to head back indoors when there's so much to explore?"

Moth Tom|22 moons|fluffy ash grey tom with pale blue eyes Somewhere under a bush??..... since I'm new and don't know what I'm doing... Mothdust opened his eyes slowly, the sun hitting his face first before his body. He was unsure how long he slept, but he knew it was long. his stomach growled, but he was still too tired to get up. 'Maybe in a few minutes,' he thought, letting his head rest on his paws and his fluffy tail swished around him comfortably. he signed then, and got up onto all four paws. His stomach growled louder now. "I know, I know," he muttered to himself and trotted along his little area in search of food. His head hurt slightly, but he figured it was from sleep or lack of food.
