Was anyone else really annoyed with this from Onestar's Confession?

Kinda, but I also feel like it's worth noting that we get this from, well, Onestar. I've always treated the ending as pretty ambiguous because of that, though that might be giving the Erin team too much credit. Either way, I wasn't as annoyed as I could be. There's no StarClan cat confirming this truly was the case like how it was for Brokenstar, for example, and seeing Onestar as a cat who regrets his actions while still refusing to accept full responsibility really adds to the Greek/Shakespearean tragedy of it all.

So you think he's an unreliable narrator? In this case, yes. Actually, reading through the scene again, it seems like even the book itself doesn't know, though I'm just going off by the use of "maybe" and "if" being included. Then again, this book also wants us to believe Onestar was a good leader while also just completely skipping over the Eclipse battle (yes, I'm still salty!) as well as downplaying his actions in CT, so... eh? 🤷🏽♀️

Absolutely. I've said this in another thread before but all of the characters that the text has said to have been "born evil" - it's pretty obvious they weren't, and just turned out like that from outside influences. Tigerclaw with Pinestar leaving, his siblings dying, and then Thistleclaw influencing him. Darktail with literally being raised to despise the Clans by his mother (who was the only influence in his life). Brokenstar with... literally everything.
I like the trope of "born evil". But the books are clearly not doing it right. If there is reasons to what caused them to be evil, then they were obviously not born that way.

Tbh I don't see Tigerstar's siblings dying to have any impact on Tigerkit nor any notable contribution to his eventual outcome of what he would eventually be. Another prominent factor would be Mapleshade since she influenced him to a certain degree if we take Tigerclaw's Fury as canon (Clawface is somehow alive in that book) Great post though. If the books want us to believe a character is born evil without any other reason then they should tone down on the outside influences since it technically doesn't make a difference.

Yes. I despise the "born evil" trope. It sounds cliché.
