I'm finally done with my Harry Potter reread so I can now start this one, I'll be posting some thoughts in here occasionally.

I put it off to read The Chalice of the Gods. Continuing Riverstar's Home before I read Thunder.
So far it's really good. I love River Ripple's POV, he's such a unique cat. I love River Ripple's and Night's friendship and the new characters are interesting this time around.

I genuinely don't understand why this book got so much negative feedback from the fans. It's good to me so far.

IMO Riverstar's Home is one of the best Warriors book so far. It is a wonderful slice of life story about a group we knew little about. And Riverstar is just wonderful. He is such a unique and well developed character. The introduction of meditation was really fun too. Easily top 5 for me.

"I do, and I'm tired of pretending it's not."

I'm about 3/4 of the way through and I'm quite enjoying it! I won't pretend it's perfect, but it has some solid writing and emotional moments.

Gray Wing telling Riverstar to be more careful with his lives is a little weird. He was saving an apprentice???

And again "Stop wasting lives." Really bro? This feels so out of character.
Slash's death feels a bit like Zira's from Simba's Pride, lol.

Another small retcon I noticed:
From The Blazing Star, page 23: "Greenleaf...Gray Wing was momentarily puzzled. Ah, that's the rogue cats' name for the warm season. Recently the mountain cats and their descendants had begun using these terms, too."
From Riverstar's Home, page 264: "Leaf-bare-what the mountain cats called the cold moons-"
RH is saying the mountain cats started calling the cold moons leaf-bare and the warm moons greenleaf when in original canon it was something the rogues called the seasons.

Another thing I didn't particularly like about this book:
RH, page 303: "The three kits had grown into skillful fighters and hunters; they even called themselves warriors-a title the cats from the other Clans had begun giving themselves lately."
It's such a brief mention about some pivotal terminology. Who came up with the term? Gray Wing named them "Clans" but who came up with "warriors"? It's cool that they started calling themselves that in the earliest days of the Clans, but I'd have liked to know more about that.

From Riverstar's Home, page 482:
"RiverClan stared at her, hardly able to believe his ears. Was she siding with Skystar?"
"WindClan cleared her throat. 'Until now, you've questioned the need for borders, Riverstar.'"
Ah yes, RiverClan and WindClan, my two favorite warrior cats.

Them making Skystar an antagonist in RH again is just....ugh. So freaking stupid.

Riverstar's Home had some good writing. And it didn't feel too much like a reread of DOTC. I live for Skystar getting his butt kicked. It's wonderful.

It's not necessarily a requirement? But I always recommend reading books in a series in publication order. I'd read DOTC first, but it's up to you.

But I'd say if you wanted to read RH really bad and couldn't wait, you wouldn't be lost. It's meant to be a stand alone, as the Super Editions usually are.

It's meant to be a stand alone, as the Super Editions usually are. i’m actually just doing a whole read through of all the books all from the beginning. i reread dotc a few months back but i have horrible memory issues sometimes and i wanted to finish RH quickly and move onto onestar’s book, hence why i asked!! i’m glad to know it’s a standalone, i know all the SE’s are but i didn’t know if it had any context from DOTC that i needed to rmbr before reading it. thank you so much oml i’m just rambling rn
