Rowanstar could have been a great leader if given a chance rather than being trashed for Tigerheart.
Breezepelt is entertaining and his “redemption” was actually more realistic and well-written than most others in the series. All of the Three are genuinely boring or unbearable, there’s no in-between I don’t find Nightheart’s anger towards Thunderclan constantly comparing him to a dead ancestor he never knew, particularly from his mother and grandmother, to be surprising or overdramatic. He deserved a better apology when he was willing to apologize for his own responses, he hardly got one imo. Ashfur gained waaaay to many overpowered abilities and it made him really eh to read about. I was already annoyed that they brought him back yeaaaars after the fact forcing Squirrelflight and Bramblestar to be in the spotlight again. It felt like a lazy appeasement to complaints from years ago. TNP is better than TPB. Yeah, Rowanstar had so much potential as deputy in OotS, I like the idea of him struggling with deputyship after Russetfur's death, and leadership after Blackstar's. I like how he was hinting at a more isolationist ShadowClan, and was excited to see how he would change Clan politics post-Firestar. Then AVoS happened and he became awful. And although I like TPB, TNP has a more special place in my heart, and it did so much for world building. Even though TPB did show other Clan business, TNP makes you care about it more since the journeying cats you get attached to in the first two books are mostly non-ThunderClan. This arc does a better job at show-not-tell with non-TC issues (WC succession crisis/civil war, RC disease, ShC territory issues, etc). It really does plant a lot of seeds that echo even to today, more so than TPB is some areas.

SAME! At first he was a character that I liked for no real reason, but I think it is his design that makes me love him. Also he was amazing in TNP and went through so much. I personally think he was distant from his kits because he lost so many loved ones as an apprentice and thus closed off his attachment doe to that trauma.

Maybe more distance after their favorite son died. But that's headcanon territory.

Maybe its just cause i really love TPB, but i feel like it just wasnt as good. - Disagree. I think its the most underrated arc in the whole series. I get how it could be seen as repetitive or boring though - This is like a semi-agree. Both of them treat eachother horribly and their relationship is super toxic, but I feel like Bramble is more of the abuser towards squilf. - Agree, though I love squilf. She's too quick tempered to be a leader, which is why she was so suited to be the deputy with Bramblestar (though the power imbalance is really sh!tty for their relationship) - Semi-agree, I feel bad with what happened to her (being abandoned by her clan and mate, kits dying), but not how she reacted or her actions.

Hot Take: Ravenwing deserved the Dark Forest more than Frecklewish. He knowingly put kits in danger; he admitted that he was aware that telling the truth would cause them to suffer, but he did it anyway, and then stood by while they were exiled. No other medicine cat would actually do this and then allow the kits to be exiled. He is the worst medicine cat IMO.
Oakstar also deserved the Dark Forest more than Frecklewish. How he ended up getting no punishment from Mapleshade blows my mind.
I liked reading Lionblaze's PoVs; Hollyleaf's obsession with the warrior code and rules annoyed me to no end. Jayfeather can be too mean sometimes.

Nightheart is a good character.
Squirrelflight shouldn't be leader. She shouldn't have been made deputy, either.
Warrior cats does have good female characters, the fans are just too focussed on Squilf and Sunbeam.

Hot take, and no, I will not be open to debate:
All of Mapleshade's "victims" absolutely deserved what they got. Do I think she was right to kill? Not at all. She still deserves the DF. But so does her victims, aside from Appledusk ONLY because being a scumbag cheater isn't enough to warrant kitty hell. But trust me. I wouldn't be mad if he went there.
On that novella topic, Reedshine is also a horrid cat. Yes, she was a victim of Appledusk's cheating/lies, but that doesn't negate the fact of how outright nasty she is as a "person". She doesn't deserve the DF, but she also wasn't exactly a kind cat by any means. Every cat except for like, three and the kits, were all horrible.

I don’t like Firestar ex machina. I’m tired of the authors shoving him in to solve problems that the actual main characters of the arc can and should solve themselves. Lionblaze should have killed Tigerstar I at the end of The Last Hope. Why have a cat with supernatural fighting strength if he’s only going to fight off some random Dark Forest cats attacking ShadowClan? Also, there was little reason for Firestar to possess Rootspring to kill Darkstripe in A Light in the Mist, Rootspring should have been able to kill Darkstripe himself. Darkstripe never struck me as a particularly strong warrior, more as a slimy lackey to Tigerstar I. So to me it seems that the narrative is trying to say Rootspring isn’t a very good warrior, which isn’t true. At best these are cool moments, at worst they rob the protagonists of agency in their own stories. If he wasn’t so old, I would like Crowfeather to be leader of WindClan. I don’t want Squirrelstar, she has far outstayed her welcome. I very much am ready for Ivystar. She’s the best option for the ThunderClan leadership.

1. Dawn of the Clans was mid as shit. Gray Wing is snooze.
2. Nightheart might have complained a lot early on, but it was very reasonable for somebody in his position.
3. Mapleshade's entire reason for gunning for Sandstorm specifically was made up just so they could bin Spottedleaf, who they just didn't know how to write coexisting with Firestar in the same afterlife.

A lot of the new code changes are unnecessary. The base codes from OS/TPB were enough.
Forbidden relationships should remain a thing and I’m not particularly fond of how dealing with them being allowed now has been done so far. (I like the idea of Trials but they need to be much harsher compared to what’s been displayed, as I’ve only read Sky. Since to a leader, you’re letting an enemy warrior into your Clan and hoping they’ll be perfectly fine with ripping the fur out of their former Clanmates and family members just because they may hopefully retain feelings for one of your warriors in the long run.)
Due to above hot take, my feelings towards the medicine cat’s code is similar. Love and kits aren’t for you, if you want to have either of those, go be a warrior. You can’t have a paw in both worlds. (Mudfur being the only real exception here as he had a kit prior to becoming medicine cat but this gets somewhat trumped later as his kit becomes his deputy and leader. Cats one would typically put on a higher end of treatment over an ordinary warrior anyway.)
Squirrelflight should have either died with her sister or have been killed at some point in TBC with Bramblestar. (Best thing is for both of them to retire but we’re not going to get that.)
Shadowsight should have died after being attacked by Berrynose and Ashfur or a double kill should have been pulled off. (Ashfur succeeds in killing Shadowsight and Bristlefrost kills him in return.) It is absolutely ridiculous how often he survived, he should have died.
(I potentially have other hot takes but that’s all I really have atm. Also not interested in debating atm.)

Here are a few of mine Squirrelflight will make a wonderful leader plotwise and characterwise imo, and they will not kill her off. She's gonna survive (THUNDER spoilers) Nightheart's problem isn't only that he's not orange enough. He's a really interesting character to dive deep in. Sunbeam is the best warrior cat ever Sunbeam x Nightheart is really cute actually and a good ship (not my favorite overall, but probably one of my favorite canon ones) Medic POVs are boring WindClan should die soon or get a leader better than Harestar, please I hate him I didn't like Owlnose, he was boring and annoying to me TBC is my favorite warrior cat arc I like newer arcs over older ones DOTC was boring It's fine if you disagree with these we all got our own opinons, but thought I'd share some of my takes

Into the Wild isn’t that great and it was barely good enough for me to want to continue the series. Which I’m glad I did since it picked up for me during the next two, especially Forest of Secrets. I’ve reread a lot of the books but not ITW.

A lot of the new code changes are unnecessary. The base codes from OS/TPB were enough. I definitely agree with this. I think the problem is that in the older arcs (mainly TPB/TNP), the warrior code was respected but cats also saw them as a little flexible depending on the specific circumstances/situation. Part of what made Firestar a good warrior and leader is that he knew when not to stick too closely to the code. But it extends beyond him - we saw ShadowClan drive out Brokenstar despite code 13, various characters violated code 2 for legitimate reasons (messengers, traveling, starving to death), Bluestar broke code 9 when she made Firestar deputy after moonhigh (which charcters reacted negatively to but it didn't cause major upheaval), code 11 is ignored several times when a trespasser is obviously friendly, Firestar broke code 7 because Brambleclaw was the best cat for the job, etc. Cross-clan relationships occasionally happened despite breaking the code and the clans involved usually managed to sort something about, including allowing one of the mates to change clans if they desired (the problem usually being that neither wanted to do so, such as OakxBlue or FallowxReed). In the last few arcs, it feels like the clans have started to become way too dependent on the codes in addition to StarClan, following them with an iron fist with no room for negotiation. And because of that, the writers clans feel like the codes must be amended to make explicit allowances, because I guess they lost the ability to use prudence at some point. I mean, code 12 was changed from "Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing cats" to instead, "Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing cats—but a warrior must always remember that all cats follow the warrior code." Like, was that really necessary?? Are y'all that brainless now that you need to explicitly add that to the code??

- Lionblaze's PoV was interesting in PoT (not so much in OotS but he still had his moments there) - As I said on another thread about controversial opinions, he's a neat character (and quite underrated) - TNP was a good arc (it had bad moments but the concept overall was great for the most part) - Dawn is still the best travelling book (fight me)

I kind of wish I’d be a bit more diseases or things like that to show the issues of living in the wild. There was definitely some, but I was thinking more of issues with reproductive diseases. Just something that pushes back against neutered pets being lazy and that being something terrible. There’s been cases of characters dying in childbirth and others having kittens they didn’t want and not knowing what to do with them, but never enough to make the connection that not having access to spaying and neutering is a bad thing.
It’s a shame because other media do handle this. One story had a female character that was forced to live as a loner because she felt uncomfortable during mating season and realized she could easily have kittens that she didn’t want. Another character was a male dog reborn as a female and both times was pretty uncomfortable when the chance to get ready to breed kicked in and was relieved when they finally had the procedure. Still another story talked about animals not necessarily liking it, but understanding that there was a problem with them not being able to control basic instincts and understanding why I had to be done. It wasn’t anything that anyone looked forward to, though.
It might be because being spay and neutering can be a hot topic, but I’m just tired of seeing the stereotype that animals get the procedure done are fat and lazy. As someone that’s been around female birds and horses (neither which can usually safely be spayed), having your animal have the ability to breed but not really using it for breeding is not as glamorous as it’s made out to be. It’s very hard on both the animals and the owners, and there’s always the issue of unwanted offspring (didn’t happen to my family, but I heard stories of it happening). As someone that had other animals and almost all of them had the procedure, fat and lazy was the furthest thing away from what most of them were.
It looks like the stereotype is finally going to be gotten rid of or at least examined in Thunder (due to something that’s implied to happen there, although considering the situation it’s not known if it’s for medical necessity or just because of plot convenience; given the situation, I took it to be the former). But given that there’s not a lot of lore surrounding it to begin with, it just feels like it comes out of nowhere to cause someone grief. Which is frustrating because now the stereotypes are being replaced with another one, and it’s probably going to end up with the exact opposite effect that should’ve happened. If it was portrayed more realistically, I suppose there would be no characters to begin with but I would love to see the topic portrayed respectfully.

Hot take: Squirrelflight sucked in her super edition just as much as Bramblestar even hotter take to add onto this, bramblestar was forced to act that way by squilf and was even worse than him and was proof that she is politically inept. bramblestar, while not amazing in that SE, did what he could with the situation handed to him.

Riverstar is boring and scarcely any personality beyond "nice guy". I'm struggling to read his SE because of how emotionally uninvested I am in him. Same issue for Leafpool. I just cannot find her interesting and have a discernable personality trait beyond "nice". On a similar note, I don't get the hype for RiverClan. I dislike using the term "overrated" but I don't think they're the best and most interesting Clan. Squirrelflight and Bramblestar's relationship is toxic, not abusive. Dovewing moving to ShadowClan is fine, but ThunderClan has a right to be mad and hurt about it. Hollyleaf not having a power/being part of the prophecy is way more interesting story and character-wise than if she actually had. Her spiral is easily the best element of her character. Actually re-reading DotC, it's not as great as I thought. Definitely some issues. I also love Gray Wing and all but he's definitely not all sunshine and rainbows with the way he excuses Clear Sky constantly. While Sparkpelt (and Nightheart's other family members) absolutely are not treating him the best and could put forth the effort to try and connect with him, Nightheart is failing to communicate how he feels and what he wants. Daisy and Ferncloud are not "useless". I'm like 99% sure Daisy's novella proves that Daisy and permaqueens are the opposite. While he's not as well written as his siblings, I don't think Lionblaze is a terrible character. They fumbled him in OotS though. The fandom takes the murder cats a little too seriously sometimes. agreed w ALL, i’d go as far as to say the bramblesquilf one that they’re not inherently toxic, just incredibly realistic. also, you bring up a good point ab dotc, gray wing’s treatment of bumble was awful

- Molewhisker was a bad mentor to Alderheart and it boggles my mind to see so many people think he would make a good deputy/leader. If he can't handle an apprentice that needs extra time and patience to improve, then he can't handle proper leadership. - Squirrelflight and Bramblestar are both horrible to and for each other. The fact that some people go after Bramblestar for his horrible treatment of Squirrelflight and yet act like Squirrelflight has never done anything wrong is legitimately concerning. They are both bad mates to each other.Jumping back after months of inactivity... BUT THIISSSS! Never say this on Tumblr, they will eat you alive for this take. I would know, I said Squirrelflight wasn't an angel and suddenly I had people ask who hurt me and tell me how horrible my take was. Meanwhile, people openly bash on Bramblestar and nothing happens. I find the reincarnation thing with the Three a wasted opportunity. It could have been so interesting if they invested more into it instead of giving it a mention and.. nothing. Speaking of the Three, Firestar being the Fourth should have made him a reincarnation and he should have gotten a power as well. tumblr scares me 😭😭😭

just a few off the top of my head - i hate leafpool, but she is the better sister than squilf in so many ways and makes good decisions. her actions towards hawkfrost is proof that she doesn’t let her fears speak for her actions unlike her sister. - bramblestar is NOT abusive and his actions in SqH are always and i mean **always** taken out of context to demonize him. his thing with sunrise was also not good, but a politically understandable decision. - squirrelflight being treated like an angel and people calling it “misogynistic” to dislike her are perpetuating more misogyny than the latter claim. + a certain video with the title bramblestar is worse is badly made and a terrible representation of the books and his character. - clear sky sucks, but he is so interesting - there was no reason to make clear x star a canonical ship - gray wing isn’t a perfect angel and was honestly awful - ashfur’s motives suck, even if he’s a super cool villain - i actually love appledusk, and i think he’s the victim of mapleshade + reedshine did nothing wrong - tumblr scares me
