Lithium grabbed a squirrel from his belt, skewering it quickly before settling it above the fire. The girl pulled out a white box, catching his attention quickly. As she pulled out her bag, Lithium raised his eyebrows in surprise. That metal and blow torch excited the man, shifting his weight with a creak. "That's a beaut," he thought aloud, covering it with a cough afterwards. His expression of surprise switched to that of confusion. "A cure?" he asked, his voice low. He's heard that story one million times, and every time it ended horribly. Then the location of where the man wanted it delivered to reached his ears.
"You've gotta be kidding me," he scoffed, rolling his eyes behind his mask and lifting his mask just enough to take another bite of the squirrel, making sure the girl didn't see. "I might as well join you. That's a long and dangerous trek. Not that you can't handle it on your own, it's just safer with someone else with you- one that's competent." His words came out muffled due to the squirrel. He didn't have much emotion to his voice. "I've travelled quite a bit of that," he shivered as he thought of the group that took over the city.
Lithium carefully flipped the squirrel, sitting down with a small thud. He let out a small sigh at the warmth from the fire as the moonlight lit up the forest. It had been a while since it was this clear, and the fresh air was something that he took in with great appreciation. The man looked at Shadow, studying her face and expression. Clearly something was bothering her but he turned his head away. Not his problem.
"When are we leaving?" he asked lowly, his voice going quieter than it had before. The darker it got, the more anxious Lithium became. He didn't love travelling in the dark thanks to his previous encounters with the infected. Shaking off this thought, he coughed again, pulling the squirrel off the fire and handing it to her.

“We might as well set up camp for the night here. I mean, I doubt that the dealer is gonna be open at this time of night. And thanks, for going with me I mean.” She smiled wanly at him as she striaghtened up, shouldering her backpack once again. Then she leaned down again, grabbing the squirrel. “I’ll take first watch.” What Shadow really wanted was to write a letter to Ellie. It had been a way of coping with his death, writing letters about her day and pretending to send them to him by burning them. She hadn’t done it in a while, but it sounded comforting.
Her body numbly clambered up a tree and set up her sleeping bag, tied between the two branches of the tree with a small band keeping we from falling if the branch broke. She had a good view of the clearing and she picked up her rifle before climbing up a bit higher so she had a better advantage, leaving her backpack with her sleeping bag. Carefully she removed the pen and paper from her pocket before beginning to write. The pen scratching on the paper was the only sound in the clearing besides the crackling of the fire and chirp of crickets. It felt almost… nice. Shadow drank in the cool night air as she wrote, feeling comfortable for the first time in weeks. She set down the squirrel on her leg and slowly picked off the meat, savoring the smoky and fatty flavor. Under her breath she sung “Danger and Dread” by Brown Bird, whistling at the whistle parts and singing at the singing parts. Her voice was low and eerie, but still managed to be pretty. The letter was as follows.
Dear Ellie,
Today I got the final drawing of the virus. It’s a big achievement for me, because finding the final stage is weirdly hard. It’s one of my ways of honoring you, by researching what killed you. Well… what began to kill you. Anyway when I was drawing this guy came into the clearing and scared off my rabbit. He was really tall and had the most huge metal gloves you’ve ever seen! I mean, they looked absolutely heavy as hell. Oh, here’s a way of understand just how heavy they looked. Remember that time we had to move that fridge for the Fredricksons down the road? And how you nearly broke your back from trying to carry it by yourself? They looked almost as heavy as that. Almost. But as I was saying, he scared it away.
I insulted him but he was weirdly nice about it and left me alone. I decided to follow him and we chatted a bit. But then I had to go because some person had another package for me to smuggle, and told him to meet back up with me at the clearing. Oh and when I was getting to the guys house, this drunk asshole tried to put his gross hands on me. Let’s just say that he won’t be doing anything like that ever again, shall we? Anyway, I got there and he told me he found a cure. Like a cure to the virus. I have it in my pocket now, along with a new silencer and machete that he gave me as a reward for taking it across the mountain ranges. It’s gonna be a helluva trek, but I think we can make it. I say ‘we’ because the guy decided to go with me! His name is Lithium, by the way. I have to go take watch now, but know that I love you more than anything in the world; my little Smoky. G’night bud.
- Nyx, your big sister.
P.S: It’s been so long since I’ve written to you. Hope you’re not offended. Anyway, sleep well.
Shadow signed it with a little drawing of a spade, as she usually did when writing Ellie letters. Carefully she folded it into a small origami crane like he had taught her years before, and dropped it into the campfire. She felt slightly better as she watched the paper crumple into ashes before disappearing into the night sky with smoke. Then she climbed down to her sleeping bag and settled down into it, leaning against the trunk of the tree with rifle in hand. She would let Lithium sleep until the moon was began to fall, then let him take second watch.

(Ok I saw this idea on a different rp, but like it’s at certain occasions they share trivia ab their characters. Like over there every full moon irl they would share a trivia fact ab their character. An example: It’s a full moon, so here’s a random fact about Shadow. She loves the smell of gasoline. Idk it would just be something fun to spice up the rp occasionally. And give me ur honest opinion, does the song “Girls like You” by Maroon 5 fit them better, OR “Hey, Soul Sister” by Train? Or neither. Honest opinion :3)

Nodding at Shadow's words, the tall man set off to find logs while he heard scampering up the tree. She really liked it up there, didn't she? Lithium quickly found some well-sized logs, picking them up with ease and laying them carefully against the thickest tree he could find. Then taking his axe, he chopped down some bushes and laid them across the logs.
Heaving a small sigh, the man kicked out the flames, making sure to hide the two in the shadows of the forest aside from a few small, smouldering coals. Just enough to burn something at a quick notice.. He quickly clambered under the makeshift shelter, laying down as flat as he could; it was a bit difficult due to his height.
It was difficult to fall asleep at first, listening to the rustling of leaves. It felt... odd, having someone to travel with. That's all he could think about. Due to her smaller size than him, she could easily take him out with stealth. While he had the size and strength advantage, she was obviously quicker. Lithium shook the thought back to the back of his mind once more, rolling over and bringing his knees closer to his chest than before.
Sleep quickly took him at this position, sending him to a restless snooze. An aggressive dream took over his mind- one that he had lived many times before. Heat radiated from blackness, screams deafening him. He startled awake, jumping nearly out of his skin. His breathing was quick, but grounding himself with the brush under him helped calm his nerves.
Lithium grumbled quietly, dragging himself out from under the small shelter he had made. "Bullshit," he hissed from under his mask, shaking his head. There would be no sleep gracing him tonight. He stood up with a creak, limping over to where the campfire had been. He sat carefully next to the simmering coals, forgetting about Shadow who was settled not too far from him.
[ i like the trivia idea! as for the song, i've got no idea LOL

Shadow had been up for a while when she heard a mumbling noise from Lithium. ‘Bullshit,’ she heard him whisper. Her mind pondered what he had been dreaming about, but decided that was none of her business. She had been reading another chapter of “It” by Stephen King, and had gotten enraptured in the book again when she saw a tall figure stumble to the fire and sit down. Carefully she put in her bookmark and set it into her backpack. She felt sympathy for him, also having trouble sleeping most of the time.
“No sleep then, huh?” Carefully she hopped from the tree onto the ground, joining him at the campfire. The ashes of her letter were still there, the small pen markings visible through the coals. She reached for a stick and poked them, watching the bits of burned paper flutter away into the night sky before wrapping her arms around her legs. The moon was just at the point where it was beginning to go down, which meant Shadow should get some rest. But a question burned inside of her. What had woken this guy up? She glanced at him then quickly looked away. He didn’t really look in the mood for chatting; but then again it was hard to tell because of the mask. “Anything… in particular keeping you awake,” she asked hesitantly. Her tone was gentle but still held that mildly curious tone to it. While she wanted a vague answer at least, she also knew how close survivors kept their pasts. Hell, she was the same! But if he wanted to talk about she would make sure he knew that she was always open to talk to. Maybe she’d have to start the conversation. “If you tell me a little bit about what woke you up, I can tell you a bit about my past. Only if you want to, though.”
Shadow wasn’t super sure how telling him about Ellie would help their relationship, but maybe it would make him feel better that she was being vulnerable as well. And in some way it could help herself to talk to someone about the trauma she’d been carrying for years. So she sat there with him as she listened to the coals sizzle and the crickets chirp in the night air. No Infected had been spotted yet, which was a relief. But in the back of her mind she knew that Lithium could always prove to be more dangerous than any Infected. He had the advantage of size and strength, being able to easily overpower her if he wanted to. And not to mention the skill that he wielded that axe and traffic sign. I know he could kill me at any time he pleases, but I bet he thinks the same about me. This is the sh*tty part about this entire ordeal. Until we prove ourselves trustworthy to each other, the tension will stay the same.

Lithium stared into the coals that were once a beautiful fire, lost in a trance. Then Shadow spoke, ripping him from his thoughts quickly. Just like that, any lingering sorrow was washed away. "No. Sleep isn't necessary," he mumbled, his voice echoing under his mask. He never once took his hazel gaze off the embers.
Her offer was tempting, he hadn't told anyone about his nightmares or his past. Lithium sighed. "Fire is a sensitive subject for me. It always sends my dreams places they shouldn't go," he stated in a growl. "That's all."
The man finally tore his eyes from the warmth, looking at the younger girl. He wasn't sure why he was opening up to her- they barely knew each other. Well... he thought, maybe starting off strong will make this trek go smoother. "And you?" he asked, turning himself in the undergrowth so he was facing her, his metal leg stuck out straight and his other pulled up to his chest.

“Oh.” Shadow stared into the flames, having a hunch that fire might’ve had something to do with his leg but had the tact not to pry more. She gave him a small, sad smile before looking at the fire again. “Before all of this sh*t happened, I… I had a sibling. Not by blood but loved him like my own blood. Obviously he’s not with me anymore.” A tear rolled down her cheek but she didn’t try to hide it. “My only regret is not helping him earlier.” She left it at that, standing up and giving him a small salute. “I’m gonna try to get some sleep. Wake me up if anything happens. G’night, Lithium.” Shadow climbed back up the tree and turned away from the small fire as she curled up. The gentle swaying of the hammock eventually lulled her to sleep, drifting away to the noise of a crackling fire. [ ps she’s dreaming about -that- night so just fyi it gets a tiny bit graphic :3 ] Tw: blood, death, depressing scenes. “C’mon slowpoke. We’re almost there,” Nyx called to her younger brother with a laugh. He quickly caught up, playfully shoving her. “I am *not* a slowpoke.” Sunlight glinted off of his ocean blue eyes and blonde hair, almost blinding as he grinned widely. They were in the woods with hiking backpacks on, getting to the nearest campsite where they’d stay for a bit. She clambered up a tree and skillfully pulled herself along the branches, Elliot doing the same next to her. After a couple of minutes doing this they came to the small firepit and flattened spot for a tent. Nyx set up the tent while he grabbed branches for a fire, as the sun would be down soon.
When they were all set up, they toasted marshmallows and hotdogs around the campfire as they chatted. Eventually Nyx turned on a radio, which said something about a global pandemic taking place. She ignored it and changed the channel as she continued to talk with Elliot. But the warning kept coming up, making them uncomfortable. “Should we head to the army center,” asked Elliot nervously. Nyx said nothing for a few moments but finally nodded. “Yeah, probably. It’s most likely just an overreaction by the news and nothing will come of it. But you can never be too safe I guess.” They spent the next twenty minutes packing before Elliot called out to Nyx.
She walked over and stood with him, peering into the darkness. “I swear I saw something,” said Elliot as he took stared into the shadows. “And I heard a noise too.” Nyx gave him a reassuring smile. “It’s fine. Just keeping packing up, ‘kay?” He looked uncomfortable but nodded. But as she turned away and continued packing, she heard an earsplitting scream. And it sounded like Ellie. She spun around to see a figure crouched over the innate form of Elliot, making noises as it chewed something. Nyx pulled out the small handgun she kept for self defense before shooting the figure. It fell to the ground with a squelching noise, twitching horribly as blood and bits of flesh slowly trickled from its mouth. She ran over and dragged Ellie away, feeling panic rise in her as she saw the sizable hole in his face. It already looked terrible. She could see his teeth from the giant gap in his cheek, and the swollen tongue. “No. No no no. Ellie! Stay with me, okay? I’m gonna get us help. Please don’t die on me. Just- just trust me okay? I’ll get you fixed up.” Her tone was panicked as she tried to put a bandage on the wound, but her hands were shaking so much that she wasn’t able to secure it and it just sat there.
Desperately she held his head in her arms, hoping that his eyes would open. And they did, but something was different. The light that was usually in his eyes was gone and he was twitching terribly. He snarled at her and lurched up to bite her but she shoved him away, stumbling away. Nyx stood there with the gun in her hand, watching him convulse and groan on the ground. She knew what she had to do, but didn’t have the strength to do it. So she stood there for about two hours, watching him suffer. He switched between being infected and not, the light in his eyes flickering. Sometimes he looked at her and sobbed for her to help him, and other times just snarled and screamed as he tried to drag himself off the ground. Finally she closed her eyes, finger tightening on the trigger. Her hand was shaking but after an agonizing silence the sound of a shot echoed throughout the clearing. At first she thought she missed, but as she opened her eyes she saw him go completely limp. Nyx crumbled to the ground and sat there, unable to cry or really do anything but stare at the pool of blood forming around Elliot’s chest. Her mind was numb but she eventually she stood up and silently shouldered her backpack, not looking at the body as she set out in the direction of the army center. “No… no no no-“ Shadow woke up with a choking sob, eyes flying open but the image of her brother’s body still burned into her vision. Her body was shuddering from the vividness of the flashback as she clutched her pillow to her chest. The sun was just peaking over the horizon and Shadow slowly pulled herself up so she was upright. Her mind was still racing and her body shaking horribly, but she started doing deep breathing and felt slightly better. After sitting there for about five minutes she silently packed up her hammock and other gear before getting down the tree. Her green eyes still looked exhausted and sad, but she put on a small smile as she saw Lithium. “We’ll be heading for the dealer in about twenty minutes, so get anything you need together now.” She sat down next to the fire and put her head on her knees, still just trying to keep the image from entering her mind.

A pang of sadness welled in the man's chest at Shadow's words. He could only imagine what it was like losing a sibling- blood related or not. He knew what it was like losing a parent, but a sibling bond was something you couldn't compare. Lithium mumbled a quick "I'm sorry, goodnight," before scooting back against a tree. Quietly, he set his sign and axe on the ground, sliding his hands carefully out of the clunky metal gloves. He examined his scarred skin, wincing at the memories that came flooding back. Lithium shook his head, it was his turn to keep watch.
Nothing exciting happened while he sat and watched, a few rustles here, some cracks there, but nothing jarring. Just your typical nocturnal wildlife scattering about. This gave Lithium plenty of time to think, which wasn't the best thing. Thoughts of the fire that consumed his life flashed through his mind, the flames licking at his skin and the screeches of pain and terror filling his head. He groaned. Now was not the time to be thinking about this, he had to keep watch. Lithium stretched his neck, a loud pop echoing from it.
A small murmur came from above him, right where Shadow had been sleeping. 'No, no, no,' he heard, his brows furrowing. Seems like she wasn't getting good sleep, either. Rustling came not too long after. This was his queue to pack up his stuff- shoving his scarred hands back into his bulky metal gloves and picking up his sign and axe. He heaved himself to his feet just as Shadow climbed down the tree. He watched her features, taking note of the sadness, but chose not to ask as it wasn't his place.
"I'm ready to leave whenever," he stated, his voice a growl thanks to his lack of sleep.

"'kay." Her voice was much quieter than it had been the day before. As she stood up, her eyes were filled with tears that she quickly brushed away with the back of her hand. It had been a while since Shadow had a dream that vivid, and the affects of it still weighed heavily on her. A lump grew in her throat as she stood there completely frozen. Suddenly she couldn't hold back the water in her eyes and it flooded from them, her standing there like a small child. "I- I need to take a bit. Be right back." She clenched her fists as she stiffly walked away from the camp until she felt she could cry without being immediately seen.
Birds chirped and sunlight gently highlighted the more beautiful features of the forest but to Shadow the world was dark and worthless. Why even have something this gorgeous if there's no one to appreciate it with? Another wave of tears washed over her as she crumpled to the forest floor, holding her face in her hands as she sobbed. It felt validating to finally cry. For the first weeks after she'd shot Elliot, she didn't cry. But one day she did and it felt so incredibly good. It felt just as good now, but it pained her the same as when she had to do 'it'.
After a couple of minutes of crying, she finally got control over herself and slowed the tears. They still trickled from her face, but at least now she could see. Her body felt exhausted and she curled up on the ground as she let the sun's rays soak into her skin. Lithium could wait for a little bit. Shadow needed this. 'This' being the warm sun, the birds chirping, and her processing all parts of her dream.

The sun slowly started to rise, casting golden rays over the tree tops. Shadows of branches and leaves decorated the ground below them. Shadow's voice was just above a whisper, something much different than before. Lithium shifted his gaze from taking in the scenery to his new companion, noticing her stiffening and tears beginning to swell in her eyes.
The man opened his mouth to speak before she cut him off, stating she needed to take a moment. He nodded at her quick exit. There he was again, alone. Not that he minded too much. Lithium limped back over to the tree- not before picking up a solid branch. He sat with a thump and a grunt, his hand moving up to adjust the skull mask that covered his scarred features.
Taking his axe, he held it close to the head. He widdled away at the branch he had meticulously picked out, sharpening the end to a point. Lithium examined it with care, tilting his head and raising it against a ray of sun. A nod of approval and hum later, the tall man noticed it had been a few minutes since Shadow had wandered off.
Lithium sighed lowly, shaking his head. She clearly needed to be on her own for a while, if those tears meant anything. He felt bad for her, but understood that sometimes you just need some time alone. He leaned his head back against the rough bark, closing his hazel eyes and letting thoughts take over. He hummed a tune quietly, tapping his foot against the crunchy leaves.
That was until he heard shuffling coming from behind him. His eyes shot open, humming cut short. Lithium jumped to his feet and grabbing his axe in one hand and makeshift spear in the other. Just as he thought, an infected was limping straight for him, as twitchy as always. Taking a step back, he aimed the spear carefully at the head and threw, watching the sharpened stick slice through the skull like butter. The infected dropped to its knees, then to the ground flat. Lithium groaned a bit and rolled his shoulder. "There goes that spear," he growled lowly, shifting his weight to his good hip. He took his axe in hand and limped over to the agonally twitching infected, raising it above his head and slamming it down on the neck, cleanly cutting its head off.
Lithium stepped back and admired his work. He remembered about the younger girl who had accompanied him, and he straightened up. Where there's one, there's usually more. He quickly limped in the direction that Shadow had scuffled off to, his voice lowly calling for her.

"It’s strange,” Shadow murmured to herself, “that you don’t notice the small things about people until they leave.” Memories of all the little things Ellie used to do flooded her mind. Always humming a tune to himself, drawing things in such a particular way, and writing ‘o’s with a little swirl inside. What she would give now to see him do it again… She slowly sat up and glanced around, still sitting on the forest floor. Her arms were wrapped around her legs as she rested her chin on top of her knees. As she sat she peered around at this small pocket of life. The golden light filtered in from thick green branches, causing a rippling effect on the deep green moss and leaves rustles in a slight breeze. She sighed in contentment as she closed her eyes and soaked up the rays.
After letting herself do this for a bit she stood up and brushed the leaves from her clothes. They fluttered to the ground like the ashes from last night, reminding her of the letter she had written to Ellie. Shadow stood there in the clearing for a moment more before bowing her head. “Thank you,” she said to the surrounding trees. “I wish many more years of happy growth towards you.” This was a tradition she had been doing since going into the forest. It was such a beautiful place that she felt the need to thank it for being so. Another sigh escaped her as she shouldered her backpack and took out her bow. Better be heading back. Poor Lithium. I feel kinda bad that I just left… hopefully he understands.
As she walked through the underbrush she sang a tune to herself, letting the words roll off of her tongue with ease. But then something stopped her singing. She heard something behind her, and turned around just in time to see a runner collide with her and gnash its teeth horribly. Shadow snarled at it as she pushed it away, feeling the claws come close to hitting her. When she was taking a moment to recover she heard a popping noise and felt a horrible pain in her shoulder. It hurt like hell, and she let out a low cry as she fell to the ground. A few moments later the runner fell beside her, its face blown off. Shadow crawled away into some brush, pulling herself into a more defendable position and notching an arrow. Voices echoed through the clearing, along with cold laughter. “Ya got one of ‘em Trace. Where’d the girl go?”
Shadow saw two figures sprint into the clearing. It was two guys, one of them holding a pistol and the other gripping a spiked baseball bat. She aimed the arrow at the gun guy’s head but stopped to hear their conversation. “Where’d she go? I mean, I saw you nail ‘er in the shoulder. Surely she can’t have gone far right?” The taller guy holding the gun merely laughed and reloaded, the clicking noise causing shivers to go down Shadow’s spine. She let the arrow fly as his face turned in her direction, and the arrow flew true. The one called Trace fell to the forest floor, a black arrow in his eye socket. The shorter one looked around in surprise as he readied his baseball bat. Shadow silently made her way around so she was behind him, even flipping the knife in her fingers before driving it into his back. Crimson liquid dripped down the handle of the blade as she let him fall to the ground in disgust. “Take that you-“ she then proceeded to insult them heavily with things I cannot repeat.
After assuring they were dead, Shadow finally looked at her shoulder. It seemed like a branch or something had gotten in the way of the bullet, which caused it to splinter and the small wood bits to pierce her shoulder and drive deep into the flesh. She groaned. Taking them out wouldn’t be hard but more just annoying. She was about to sit down and begin cleaning it when she heard Lithium call out through the brush and ran over. Her pain was immediately forgotten as she searched his face. “Are you okay?” Her mind was fully on him despite the obvious blood seeping from her shoulder. If he gotten hurt then she’d want to tend to him first. “I’m sorry for leaving,” she said in a small voice. “I should’ve stayed. But enough of that. Are you hurt? Did something happen?”

Distant male voices echoed through the clearing into the treeline, sending a pang of confusion then rage through Lithium's body. He didn't know where Shadow was, and now there are at least two strange men seemingly looking for them- that's just based on the words he could make out. A pop rang through the air which sent a shiver down his spine. Shadow!
The tall man limped as fast as he could into the clearing, white-knuckling his axe and ready to kill someone. His hazel eyes scanned the open area and noticed that three bodies lay in the field. He let a sigh of relief escape when he spotted the girl, lowering his axe and letting his grip loosen. "Thank god," he mumbled to himself, straightening his back and looking back at her.
"I'm fine- there was just an infected and I wanted to make sure you were okay since you know, where there's one, there's more." Lithium stopped and noticed her shoulder, blood trickling from a very obvious wound. "Are you okay?" he asked with a slight twinge of concern in his voice. "Need help with that?" He motioned to her shoulder.

“I’ll be fine,” she said with a tight lipped smile, although stabs of pain ran through her entire arm. “We probably need to postpone our trip for a few hours, just until I can clean and bandage this wound.” Shadow made her way over to a tree and sat down, wincing slightly as a new ripple of burning pain pulsed from her shoulder.
As she took her medical supplies out she glanced again at the red and sticky wound. Bits of wood stuck out from it like the spikes on the guys baseball bat, and the one silver bulled was visible. Carefully she took off her hoodie, painfully aware of the fact she felt exposed. Shadow loved her tank top, but her thick hoodie usually helped hide her more feminine parts. And even though she didn’t think that Lithium would try anything it still felt scary to be exposed like that. Her movements were deft as she cleaned the wound with disinfectant and took out a pair of tweezers to pick out all of the splinters.
She refused to make any noise to indicate it hurt, but inside she was screaming. After the bullet was removed and tossed aside, she began taking out all of the wood. Eventually though she just gave a small growl of frustration and leaned back in defeat. The wood bits were too difficult to reach, and it seemed like every time she tried to remove one it splintered into yet another thing to tweezer. Shadow snarled profanities under her breath as she tried to think of a way to clean it. But after a few moments she finally looked up at him. She fiddled with the tweezers for a few more seconds, glancing between Lithium and the medical supplies. A small sigh escaped her throat before she spoke. “I’m going to ask for your help because I can’t reach some of these splinters,” she said in a wary tone, “but I will let you know right now, if you try any smart ideas, I will make you hurt in ways that your brain won’t be able to comprehend. Agreed?” Shadow wouldn’t actually torture him, more likely a quick death with her knife. But it sounded better and kept herself more safe when she threatened. It would really be a test of trust, her not luring him over to kill him and him not stabbing her in the back or molesting her.

Lithium nodded curtly at her words, watching as she walked over to a tree. He observed for a moment before she took her sweater off, averting his gaze as to not make the girl uncomfortable. He hummed a tune while he waited for her to take care of the wound- albiet knowing he could do a better job just based on the location. He heard a growl come from her direction and he shifted his hazel gaze to the forest floor below.
Her words hit his ears like the wind. "Don't worry," he started glancing away for a moment. "Not interested." To be honest, Lithium wasn't interested in anybody, man or woman. He'd never had a reason to, nor felt the need. Carefully, the burly figure slid his hands out of the heafty metal gloves, setting them down carefully onto the leaf-cluttered ground with a soft clank. He grabbed the tweezers in his scarred right hand, settling his left hand on her shoulder next to the wound. "Just don't punch me," he said in a half-joking done; knowing she definitely had it in her.
He squinted behind his mask, furrowing his brow as he meticulously plucked splinters out of the bullet wound. He counted in his head as he picked them out, something he picked up when he was learning medical in the first place. After getting every last small piece of branch out of her shoulder, he stretched out his neck before disinfecting the wound once more. "What even happened out there?" the man asked while applying a square bandage to her shoulder.

Shadow snorted at his words. “Yeah, I’m sure a punch would do a whole lot.” In a way she felt a little bit better knowing he wasn’t interested in her body, and he seemed genuine when he had said it. She was painfully aware of his hands as they touched her, but she just told herself for trust him. The wound hurt like hell the entire time he cleaned it but she kept still.
After a couple of minutes she felt him bandage it and ask her what happened. “I got done doing… whatever I was doing and started looking for you. As you can see,” she gestured over to the downed runner, “I got attacked. Don’t worry I didn’t get bit though. I’m clean. Well, clean as I can be.” She really wanted to let him know that she wasn’t infected. Becoming friends with someone only to have them be infected and killed would be rough.
“Anyway, those two shot the runner, but had intentions of killing me too. The bullet must’ve hit a branch or something and it splintered. To be honest, it would’ve been a whole lot worse if the branch hadn’t saved me. Digging out a bullet is not an easy process, and would’ve resulted in heavy muscle damage. Maybe even a useless shoulder. So this is the best outcome at the moment.” Shadow didn’t know why she was rambling. She bit her tongue for a few moments, stopping herself from annoying Lithium further. Eventually though she said in a quiet voice, “Thanks for fixing me up. You’re really good with medical supplies by the way.”
