I'm gonna get so much hate for this take but SkyClan feels like it's written as a bad fanclan-insert fanfiction and I hate that it's canon.

Oh you're telling me that there was just some lost clan that was never talked about and now the main character and his mate have to go one some dangerous quest totally alone for some reason, even though the other current cats wouldn't have remembered SkyClan either, and probably wouldn't have cared or been offended. And then the whole clan gets half run by kittypets like Firestar was and TOTALLY ignores the fact that you can't have a paw in both worlds that was beaten over and over throughout Firestar and Cloudtail's storylines, and then they just get to move on into the lake with the rest of them, effectively repeating the same plot points twice, and take up space at the lake to do... what exactly? 4 was a nice even balance. And they aren't different and distinct enough in personality or traits to be worth making a fifth clan over. They just borrow from what ThunderClan and WindClan already had and are pretty devoid of having an individual clan identity because of it.

SkyClan does not exist in my brain. It's better that way.

But the way the fandom likes to ship a predatory 'relationship' and then call people homophobes when they don't support age gaps is beyond me.

I figured, it's not one of the books I own though or read.

See, the other half of the reason I quit reading them was because my local library flooded back when I was in high school and they tore it down, so I had no access to freely read them anymore. And life kinda took over. When I started rereading the ones I own more recently, I also realized a lot of the love and spark I had for most of the characters as a kid was gone, and the poor writing and somewhat confusing/conflicting storylines was too much for me to ignore and continue while still enjoying them.

That's why I tell people I'm a warrior cats genwunner. I still feel attached to and enjoy a lot of the original stories and cats before everything got a lot more open-ended and confusing to follow, to downright silly.

I plan on picking some of the new stuff up sometime again when I can afford to or get over to the new library that just finally opened. (It only took them.... 8 years to actually care about funding a new public library yippee) The first 2 books on my "Want to read" List are Yellowfang's and Tallstar's super editions if I can find them. :3

To be fair, I don't think we even know exactly how old Barley is. He's clearly presented as a much older cat in the first arc, but then again, alot of things about the first arc become weird in hindsight because the Erins can't keep track of the timeline. That said, if we follow Barley's story as it's presented in the books, assume him leaving BloodClan happened not long after he turned a year old, and take everything else in mind, I think this would put him as being only a season older than Silverstream at minimum.

But if age gaps are a problem... then I have some bad news about Tall x Jake.

Yay to three full on Based ones and two kinda Based ones. And only two full Cringe ones (who happen to be two of my favs but oh well). Out of five characters, I'd consider this a success (for me)!

I think either ship is fine, they were both cute pairings. I don't really have a preference of one over the other but I think they're one of the healthiest couples we've seen.

Swiftpaw and Brightheart is just like, it didn't happen in canon, so I don't really think about it as much. And they could have just stayed friends.

The downside to having a series with the metric assload of characters that warriors has is that in the long run most of them end up feeling like filler. Something I like about the first few books is that they frequently alluded to there being many more cats per clan that we didn't get to really see or hear anything about that filled up the world in moments without having to really be there, named, given a personality and backstory and family which would then have to be remembered, maintained, not conflict with other books, etc. Which is where the new books struggle because there are no filler cats or unknown cats. Which means the longer they continue the series the more lore is going to break, the more inbred the family trees are going to get. They've invented a new problem for themselves where they have to retcon, and write-in ways for new cats to join or happen, and stall ceremonies or deaths of characters that have really outlived their natural lifespans or purpose because those gaps still need to be filled somehow. Why cats will randomly act out-of-character. Instead of just having Unnamed NPC cat #7 do it and then continue.

We're not really doing ships, just me bascially cuz my memory sucks and I kinda can't think of anymore cats. (i should probably re-read the entire series) But its also nice that others might follow in my decision
