Mintpaw blushed slightly with embarrassment and licked at his chest fur to hide it "I suppose. Your father was really leader though?" he asked, now truly curious about Snowtiger's father.

"Deputy," meowed Snowtiger, "He died in a battle with NightClan. He was Bloodystar's first deputy after she became leader."

Mintpaw's eyes grew wide at Snowtiger's tale "He died in battle? She must have trusted him immensely if he was Bloodystar's first deputy" he mused, thinking of his leader and mentor.

"I'd like to think so," meowed Snowtiger, "He was a loyal warrior for his clan. We had a border skirmish with NightClan which turned out to be a misunderstanding between two border patrols. My father defended his outnumbered patrol until he could get all involved to see reason. He was injured in the process."

"I'm sorry for asking this but if he was injured in the process, then how did he die?" Mintpaw asked the older tom, curiosity and wonder in his eyes at the thought of a tom that sounded as cool as Snowtiger's father sounded at the moment.

"Ah! Well, no. Not that I can say!" Mintpaw exclaimed, a nervous laugh escaping him. Bloodystar asked him not to say anything so the young tom couldn't tell Snowtiger the real reason behind his questioning.

Snowtiger chuckled softly. "We are 18 moons old, so Bloodystar has been leader for 16 or 17 moons."
