M O U N T A I N C L A N Opposition rules over all. Let us agree, to disagree. Ask to use, credit needed. Introduction You step into rocky mountain territory, where you immediately catch a whiff of cat scents. Unfamiliar ones. You close your eyes and hope for the best, having continuously traveled for many days and nights. You feel sleep calling to you. Strongly. Much too strongly... When you open your eyes, you find yourself in a dark, stony cavern. Glorious light is streaming in, filtering through gaps in a screen of twigs. You stretch and yawn, wondering where you are. "Who are you?" You suddenly realise you aren't alone. Turning, you see a kind face looking at you. "Where am I? "You are in MountainClan." Silence. "Indeed, my medicine cat is right," a new voice comes towards you from the door. "Newcomer, join us, and you will prosper. Leave us, and you may perish. I am Leapingstar, leader of MountainClan Swiftstone Party, currently in rule."Beliefs Agree to Disagree MountainClan believes that while cats may have different views on one matter, It is more good over evil, doing the clan more help rather than harm. Any cat, lowly or highly, has the power to voice out, as the elders and founders believe that no one should be needed to compress their feelings and views on the matter. Although there have been arguments over this, this rule has been kept for many centuries. Another way this belief is exploited is through the tradition of Campaign for Power, Crown Choice, and Pledge of the Throne.Leader's Grasp Following its first belief, the second is much alike. After the Race for the Throne, the leader of the winning party may not claim full leadership, he or she will be mostly supported by the other leaders and the cat's own deputies, who will be equals with each other. The other leaders and deputies of the winning party will be the leader’s council, reverting back to their warrior name, while the leader will adopt the suffix -star. The deputies of the other parties of lower authority, and keeps their original warrior name. They are called assistants.Fiery Ancestors MountainClan is leader of the Allegiance of Fire, who believe that fire, not ice holds the spirit of their ancestors. Other members are CanyonClan, CaveClan and SpikeClan. Despite this, unlike SpikeCkan and CaveClan, MountainClan does not hold any grudges with the Allegiance of Ice. Leadership Following its belief on different views, MountainClan has created different parties of leaders, each with two deputies. They are named after an ancient cat prominent in their history. The older parties are: Jaggedclaw Party, the party who believes in battle and fight; the Swiftstone Party, believing in strategy and smarts; lastly the Shadowstrike Party, believing to wait and pounce is always best. Traditions Campaign for Power Every 10 moons, a change of party and leader is required. A Campaign for Power is held to determine the next leading party. When a Campaign for Power is held, the three parties compete to gain favour with the other members of the clan. The first event in the Campaign for Power is the Speed Flight, where leaders and deputies race in speed; the second is Battleright, where only the deputies show of their battle strength; thirdly is Mind Fight, where leaders, race to solve a cat's problem; lastly Speech Bite, where deputies and leaders speak about their own party and hold a debate between parties.Crown Choice After the Campaign for Power, The Crown Choice will take place. The Crescent Clearing will be cleared of twigs and pebbles, each cat takes a turn to vote for the leading party. The cats will place a pebble on his or hers chosen party's section of the crescent. The sections are separated by logs. The Jaggedclaw Section is on the left, Swiftstone in the middle, and Shadowstrike on the right. The votes are counted up later onPledge of the Throne After the Crown Choice, the winning party gives a pledge they must follow. At this time, all cats in the clan will gather around, and listens carefully. This ensures that the party cannot go against their pledge in the future. Afterwards, the winning party travels to the Fire Ring to repeat their pledge to StarClan.Territory Territory Positioning MountainClan owns only a largest patch of land. It sits in front of RainClan and beside CanyonClan. The other side of it is facing outside Clans of the Fire Ring land, where there is a Twolegplace and open, unexplored forests. MountainClan sometimes, though rarely gets attacked by other animals from the forest.Crescent Clearing This ancient Clearing is marked with boulders, and sectioned into three by The Twin Logs, of rowan and oak, on the right and left respectively. Near the oak, on the left if the Jaggedclaw section, in between is the Swiftstone section, and nearer to the rowan, on the left is the Shadowstrike section. This clearing is used for Crown Choice.Bridging Ropes Position at the edge of the territory where the jungle is, the Bridging Ropes is a series of ropes hanging across and abyss knotted in complicated ways; the cats have long since given up untying them. and it does serve useful as holds for warriors travelling across. It is a popular spot for mentors to train apprentices at climbing. It also served as a defence mechanism when other animals attacked, as warriors could snap the string and allow the enemies to fall straight into the abyss.Rockpeak Lagoon Discovered in a time of crises, the Rockpeak Lagoon was a vital part of survival for the clan. The clan was puzzling over a new problem, fleas. The little pests were bothering them left and right, taking the lives of many cats, including the medicine cat and deputy. Rockpeak, a young warrior at the time, bravely set out to find a solution, the solution being a lagoon near to CliffCkan territory, later CanyonClan’s. The cats would bathe in the lagoon, and come out, the fleas washed from their pelt. Rockpeak was then highly honoured by having the lagoon named after him, and named deputy. The lagoon has saved the clan in other times too, namely a drought that raged the clans for ages. Being a tidepool on the lower part of the territory, the lagoon did not dry up. To this day, Rockpeak is honoured in the clan.Camp Positioning and General Description The camp is at the edge of MountainClan territory, nearest to RainClan territory. The dens are on one side of the camp, the warrior den being nearest to the front entrance, followed by the apprentices, the medicine den, the nursery, the elders den, the council den, and finally the leader's den, nearer to the back entrance.Dens The warrior's den is made of oak, is covered with ivy tendrils at the entrance of the den. The apprentices is a miniature version of it. The medicine den is a naturally-made den, or a cavern, made out of rock, with a screen of twigs covering the entrance. The nursery is made of ironwood with creeper vines at the entrance, while the elders is atop a small hill of rocks. The council den is exactly like the warriors, near the bottom of the elder's rock-hill. The leaders den is below the ThunderRock, where the leader addresses the clan.ThunderRock The ThunderRock is where the leader addresses the clan. It is simply a tall rock, flat at the top, a little higher than the elders den. Most cats are able to jump up, but the leaders den acts like a step-up or pedestal for cats who cannot, like apprentices or elders. Below it is a clearing for cats to gather.Entrances The front entrance sits between two rocks, near to the warriors den, and is guarded by thistles. The one path out of the thistles is known only by clan members. The back entrance, on the other hand, is near the leaders and council den. It is a secret entrance below a thorny bush known only by the leader, council, assistants and cheeky kits know of.
