Hope you enjoy Prologue
Fidgetflake gazed up at the sky, sadness and desperation clouding his thoughts. A sickness had spread through the Clans, killing Bramblestar, Minnowtail, Tinycloud, as well as many others. Frecklewish, his fellow medicine cat, had succumbed to the illness, leaving him as the sole medicine cat of SkyClan.
It was going to be hard, getting the Clan through the aftermath of the terrible sickness. Ridgenose's kits are still a little sick...Harrybrook sprained his leg...Waterpaw has been coughing again... He felt so tired lately, having to help cats left and right. And not only that. StarClan hadn't sent anything in two whole moons. Not even an omen. Even the medicine cats from the other Clans hadn't gotten a whisker.
Fidgetflake might've been able to deal with the endless workload if StarClan had given him at least one sign. Just one sign, so he would know that everything was alright, that the warrior ancestors hadn't abandoned them.
Oh, please StarClan! Are you there? We need your help- or at least, I need your help!
But there was no reply to his plea for help. Only the cold, glimmering sky.
Fidgetflake looked up one more time, repeating his cry. But, still, there was no answer. The medicine cat sighed and got up, padding away from where he had been.
He entered the camp quietly so he didn't wake up any of the cats who were peacefully resting. He headed to his den, half expecting to hear the gentle breathing of Frecklewish. But the den was silent and still.
As Fidgetflake settled down, a light breeze blew into the den, rustling the moss in Frecklewish's nest. Fidgetflake felt a wave of sadness wash over him. He hadn't taken the nest out, as it felt too much like he was throwing the memory of Frecklewish away.
Tiredness overcame him, and he fell into a deep sleep, troubled with the memories of the Clan cats who had died of the sickness.
Suddenly, Frecklewish began to speak. "Hello, Fidgetflake. I have a message for you from StarClan."
Fidgetflake's head shot up with shock and happiness. Then, it faded as he realized something. "How do I know you're real, and not just something my brain came up with?"
In response, Frecklewish said, "I am most certainly real." Then, as if on command, Minnowtail appeared. Then came Larkwing, Bramblestar, Brackenfur... Every cat who didn't survive the illness, Fidgetflake thought.
"We came to give you a prophecy." Brackenfur meowed. His voice was strong and youthful, not old and raspy like it had been in his final days.
"A prophecy?" Fidgetflake meowed, his heart beating faster.
"Yes." Frecklewish stepped closer to him. "Several will walk the flaming path."
What could that mean? The tom thought, puzzled.
As if she could read his mind, Frecklewish meowed, "You will find out in time."
At that moment, Fidgetflake was jolted out of sleep. His mind started buzzing with questions, so loud that it nearly drowned out the normal nighttime sounds.
Then, a loud coughing broke out from the apprentices' den, and Fidgetflake was snapped out of his thoughts.
It's probably Waterpaw again. What's happening to her? Why is she still so sick?
As the cool night breeze washed over his fur, he thought that maybe nothing would ever be the same.

Chapter 1
Slightkit yawned, the dawn light seeping into the nursery and washing over her pale golden pelt. She looked to find her sister, Clearkit, sound asleep next to her. She prodded the she-kit with one paw. Today was an important day, and she didn't want Clearkit to miss it!
Clearkit woke up and grumbled, "What is it?"
"Today is our apprentice ceremony!" Slightkit mewed happily.
To her surprise, Clearkit didn't seem as excited. "Can't we get some sleep first?" she meowed, bleary-eyed. "Leafstar'll call the meeting early! You know her!" Slightkit replied. But Clearkit didn't seem convinced, as she started to settle down for sleep.
"Slightkit is right." Their mother, Ridgenose, stretched her paws and started to groom herself. "Leafstar told me it would be early." "Whyy. I want to sleep." Clearkit groaned. "I'm so tired."
Ridgenose gave her kit a series of rough licks. Slightkit bounced over to her. "Just think, Clearkit! We'll be apprentices! We're going to have awesome mentors and we're going to learn to fight and hunt, and we're going to do it together! And with- ow," she winced as Ridgenose pulled out a piece of moss that had been entangled in her fur. "I mean, Runningkit."
Runningkit jumped happily. "I can't wait! I wonder who our mentors will be?"
"Beetlecrawl seems nice," Slightkit noted. "Rootspring, too. Needleclaw is too much of a rule-follower, though."
"Slightkit, be respectful to Needleclaw. She's been a warrior much longer than you." Ridgenose meowed sternly. Slightkit quietly mewed "Sorry." Then came a loud call from outside. "Let all cats old enough to hunt gather here around the Skyrock!"
Slightkit dashed towards Leafstar's voice. Runningkit followed, nudging on the tired Clearkit.
"Today, we have three kits who are ready to become apprentices." Leafstar's voice rang loud and clear. "Slightkit, Clearkit, and Runningkit, please come up."
Slightkit hopped off to the Skyrock, fur bristling with excitement. Runningkit followed with a bounce in his step, and last was Clearkit, who had a glimmer in her eyes that Slightkit thought meant she was getting excited.
"Slightkit," Leafstar meowed. "From now on, you will be known as Slightpaw. Your mentor will be Duskheart. Duskheart, you are a determined and loyal warrior. I trust that you will pass on these qualities to Slightpaw."
Slightpaw touched noses with Duskheart. Slightpaw! she thought. I am Slightpaw.
"Runningkit, from now on you will be known as Runningpaw. Your mentor will be Hawkwing." The two touched noses. Hawkwing! He's a little strict, but he's alright.
"Clearkit, from now on, you will be known as Clearpaw. Your mentor will be Bellaleaf."
"Slightpaw! Runningpaw! Clearpaw!" the Clan cheered. Slightpaw noticed Waterpaw in the crowd, her voice quiet. Slightpaw felt bad for her. She had caught the strange sickness that had swept the Clans not too long ago, and the blue-gray she-cat was still feeling the effects. Her training had to be cut short while Fidgetflake tried to cure her. The Clan was optimistic, especially Waterpaw's mentor, Rabbitleap, but...
It wasn't working. Waterpaw hadn't gotten any better.
Then, Duskheart padded up to her. "Let's show you three around the territory."
Slightpaw, Clearpaw, and Runningpaw shared a thrilled glance. Their first training session!
"Come on." meowed Hawkwing, padding towards the camp entrance.
~~~~~
As the group walked through the woods, Slightpaw's ears pricked with a new sound. Prey, she realized, opening her mouth to taste the air. She wasn't sure what type of prey it was, though, since she hadn't had any training on that yet. But she thought it might be a mouse or a rabbit.
Still, she knew that the Clan needed prey, and everyone would be proud of her for catching something, wouldn't they?
Slightpaw stopped in her tracks, that darted behind a thick bush. She watched her Clanmates pad off and away from where she was hiding, and suddenly she felt anxious. What if they didn't realize she was gone? What if she got banished from the Clan for doing something like this?
She brushed the thoughts away. They're not going to banish me for this, she assured herself. But she still had some doubt.
What was I doing? Oh, right. Slightpaw tried to follow the scent, but she quickly lost it.
Fox dung! I almost had it! she thought frustratedly. Now what am I going to tell Duskheart and the others?
The sound of pawsteps close by put Slightpaw on alert. She peeked through the leaves to the golden tabby fur of Clearpaw.
"Slightpaw?" Clearpaw mewed, surprised.
"Yes, it's me." Slightpaw replied. "I smelled prey and wanted to go find it, but- I couldn't. Please don't tell our mentors." Slightpaw added.
"I won't." Slightpaw was a little taken aback. "Really?"
"Of course I won't. We're sisters, after all."
Slightpaw smiled. "Thank you."
As they walked towards where their mentors and Runningpaw were, Clearpaw mewed, "I forgot to tell you this before, but I heard Fidgetflake say something about a prophecy the night before our apprentice ceremony. That's why I was so tired- I couldn't sleep after I heard it."
"What was it?" Slightpaw asked curiously.
"He said 'Several will walk the flaming path.'" Clearpaw meowed.
"What could that mean?" Slightpaw wondered aloud.
Clearpaw met her sister's eyes. "We can wait for someone else to figure it out...or find the meaning by ourselves."
Chapter 2
Windkit scuffled in the warm nursery with his sister, Spottedkit. The black-and-white she-kit bowled over him, batting his muzzle with tiny, sheathed paws.
“Got you!” She squealed.
Windkit sank down onto the ground. “Alright, you won.” But before Spottedkit could triumphantly announce that she had defeated him, he rolled over and pounced on her.
“Ha!” Windkit mewed. Spottedkit struggled under him, and then pushed him off in a sudden burst of energy, sending Windkit careening into a patch of snow-white fur.
“Hey! Watch out!” Whitekit growled. Her brother, Cliffkit, hissed, “You should know better than to throw yourselves into cats.”
“Whitekit! Cliffkit!” Their mother, Leafcloud, called angrily. “They’re two moons old. Stop yelling at them.”
Cliffkit ducked his head in shame, but Whitekit simply huffed and padded outside. “I’m going to watch the dawn patrol.”
“Stay in camp.” Leafcloud warned her, but she was already long gone.
A idea suddenly came to Windkit. What if… His head shot up, and the gray tom-kit quickly walked over to Fernstrike.
“Can me and Spottedkit join the dawn patrol?” He meowed.
“Of course not.” Their mother meowed. “You two are too young.”
Windkit opened his mouth to protest, but nothing came out. Spottedkit tilted her head at him. “You okay?”
”Mom said we can’t join the dawn patrol.”
Windkit expected her to laugh, but instead, Spottedkit gazed at him thoughtfully.
“Maybe we could sneak out.” she proposed.
Windkit shook his head. “They would catch us for sure.”
Spottedkit narrowed her eyes. She pointed with her tail towards Fernclaw and Leafcloud, who were sharing tongues at the back of the nursery. “They’re distracted. We’d better get going.”
Windkit had no choice but follow her. So he did.
The pair hid in a patch of gorse, the only cover they could find.
A group of cats had gathered at the camp entrance. They were most definitely the dawn patrol. Windkit noticed his father, Brookleap, among them.
Then, Spottedkit jabbed him with her paw. “Look!” she hissed. “It’s Harestar!”
Windkit looked at the cats, heart sinking. Sure enough, there was Harestar, talking to the cat next to him about seeing something odd last patrol.
”How are we going to join them now?” Windkit meowed, voice filled with despair.
Spottedkit took a deep breath. “What if we wait for them to go before we sneak in?”
”That’s a great idea!” Windkit meowed. Then, he noticed the sound of pawsteps of the tough moorland ground. “They’re leaving! Quick, hide!”
Windkit and Spottedkit hid in the gorse as the cats left camp, the warrior Heathertail in front, Harestar at the rear.
Windkit slowly crept forward, followed closely by Spottedkit.
Windkit watched in awe as Brookleap and Appleshine cornered a rabbit, and Breezepelt swiftly caught it.
Spottedkit padded more quickly to catch up with them, but Windkit wasn’t as fast, and Harestar turned his head towards the gray kit, meeting his eyes.
For a moment, Harestar’s eyes burned with rage and apprehension, but suddenly, the flame in his eyes died out as he seemed to remember something, and he walked away with a slight nod.
What was that? Windkit couldn’t believe it. What would make Harestar just let him off for sneaking out of camp?
Lost in his own thoughts, he didn’t realize that a cat was right in front of him until he heard a voice.
It was Whitekit, with a triumphant smile. “You’re in so much trouble.”
~~~~~ Cliffhanger! Next chapter is Rowanshine’s POV.

Chapter 3 Rowanshine padded towards the island where the Clans held Gatherings. Her paws were weary from the seemingly endless patrols she'd been on, and the long walk. Worries crowded her head. Her brother Birchwood's mate, Bloomspark, was very close to kitting. She had been rather sick recently, and the whole of ShadowClan were fearful for her and her kits.
But at least I'm going to the Gathering! the ginger she-cat thought, trying to cheer herself up. It didn't work.
As Rowanshine got to the island, she settled herself down away from any other cats and looked up at the high branch where the leaders of the Clans sat. Tigerstar, her father, was already there, along with Dewstar, Leafstar and Harestar.
"Finally, ShadowClan is here!" Harestar meowed. "Now we can get started with the Gathering.
But where's Squirrelstar? Rowanshine wondered. She could tell that the other Clans were wondering about it too, from the disconcerted murmurs that filled the island.
Suddenly, the sound of many cats' paws pounding on wood filled the air. Squirrelstar and the ThunderClan cats came bursting into the Gathering.
"What took you so long?" Dewstar meowed, her lithe black shape glimmering in the moonlight.
Squirrelstar didn't answer, but her medicine cat, Alderheart rushed up to the front of the party.
"Stemlight died." The ginger tom's voice quavered. "When we were getting ready to go to the Gathering, Squirrelstar called Stemlight to come, and... we found him just outside camp, not moving, covered in blood."
Gasps echoed from the cats on the island.
"So who's your new deputy?" Leafstar inquired.
"Adderfang." Squirrelstar finally found her voice. She gestured with her tail to a speckled brown she-cat.
"Stemlight's niece," Tigerstar noted quietly. "I wonder if that had anything to do with it?"
Squirrelstar led her cats further into the island before jumping onto the branch with the other leaders. "Let the Gathering begin." she meowed.
"ShadowClan is doing well," Tigerstar meowed. "Prey is plentiful, and Bloomspark is having kits very so-"
"RiverClan is prosperous." Dewstar butted in. Tigerstar's tail lashed furiously at being cut off, but the sleek she-cat paid no mind. "We have two new apprentices, Duskpaw and Fawnpaw. They have apprenticed to Icewing and Frostfoot."
"Duskpaw! Fawnpaw! Duskpaw! Fawnpaw!" The Clan cats cheered. Rowanshine looked at the two new apprentices. Brown tabby Duskpaw was standing next to a stark white RiverClan she-cat, while ginger Fawnpaw was looking up at the medicine cat Frostfoot.
Having an apprentice will be good for her, Rowanshine thought. She's young, and she's been lonely ever since Mothwing died.
Leafstar gave Dewstar a hard stare. "SkyClan is doing well also." she meowed. "We have two new apprentices as well. Slightpaw, Clearpaw, and Runningpaw have been apprenticed to Duskheart, Hawkwing, and Beetlecrawl.”
“Slightpaw! Clearpaw! Runningpaw!” Rowanshine didn’t join in. She realized something seemed to stand out about one of the apprentices- Slightpaw. Something felt…important.
She made a mental note of it, but focused on what was happening, Surely it couldn’t be that important.
As the Gathering went on, Squirrelstar announced two new apprentices, Brightpaw and Rosepaw, both she-cats. Rowanshine noticed how Nightheart cheered loudest of all the ShadowClan cats. He used to live in ThunderClan, but he wasn’t happy there, so he and Sunbeam, Rowanshine’s mentor, had faked being mates to get him out.
Soon, the Gathering was over, and Rowanshine raced back to camp. Tigerstar called after her, telling to slow down, but the ginger she-cat barely slackened her pace.
When she got to the nursery, Bloomspark was lying down, panting. Rowanshine saw Shadowsight running into the nursery and calming down the night-black she-cat.
“I think you should go out and give her some space.” Shadowsight mewed quietly to his younger sister.
Rowanshine nodded, thinking uncomfortably about Firpaw, Bloomspark’s brother, who had died saving Tawnypelt from a fire. Surely Bloomspark was thinking about him, and surely she wanted some company?
Brushing off the dark thoughts, she decided to take a walk. But just as she had rounded the nursery, a sharp mewling echoed through the branches.
Rowanshine peeked into the nursery, curiosity overcoming her want to follow her older brother’s instructions.
The kits!
Bloomspark had given birth to two healthy kits, a tortoiseshell she-cat and a tiny gray tom. Her eyes were glazed, but filled with pride and love for the tiny lives.
Shadowsight noticed her, but didn’t tell her to go out. If Rowanshine were him, she wouldn’t be able to turn herself away either.
So Rowanshine's mentor was Sunbeam, and Birchwood's was Blazefire. Brightpaw is white with a brown paw, and Rosepaw is ginger-and-black.

Chapter 4
Slightpaw sniffed a browning fern frond, soaking up all of its scents. Stale rabbit, Waterpaw, yesterday's patrol... She pawed at the ground where the plant sprouted from, pushing her muzzle against the ground and carefully scanning every inch of the small space.
When she found nothing, she huffed to Clearpaw, "Dead end."
Clearpaw nodded, disappointed, and continued to sniff a tall birch tree.
The two sisters were trying to figure out what Fidgetflake's prophecy meant. They had puzzled over it for a few days, until Slightpaw had had an idea: they could search the forest for anything on fire or the smell of smoke, really anything that suggested flames. But they were nearly at the end of SkyClan territory, and they had found nothing. Not even the faintest trace of fire.
Gloomily, Slightpaw dropped her head and padded towards a glossy-leaved holly bush, tiredly sniffing around it. When she found nothing, she walked away, tail drooping.
Suddenly, a strong scent filled her nostrils. Fire? she thought, half eager and half scared. She cautiously stepped forward.
"Slightpaw!" Clearpaw meowed urgently. "You're in ShadowClan territory! Quick, get out!"
Slightpaw darted forward, her pale golden paws lightly hitting the grass as she ran. Scents flew past her, clogging her senses.
Finally, she reached Clearpaw. Panting, she mewed, "Did anyone spot me?"
Clearpaw shook her head. "At least...I don't think so."
"We should go back." Slightpaw meowed, fear spiking her belly.
Clearpaw nodded, and ran forward. "Last one back is a crazy starling," she called. Slightpaw laughed, and ran faster.
When they reached the camp, the sky was inky black, dotted with the brightly shining stars of Silverpelt. The quiet breathing of their Clanmates filled the air, and Clearpaw raced to the apprentices' den, Slightpaw close behind.
"I won!" Clearpaw called excitedly.
"I guess I'm the crazy starling, then," Slightpaw meowed, somewhat sarcastically.
"Yes, you are," Clearpaw mewed, playfully nudging her sister in the shoulder.
Slightpaw noticed something weird. There was a strange scent wafting into camp, one that she just couldn't put her paw on.
She saw Clearpaw's nose shoot up too, reassuring her that she wasn't alone in noticing it.
Then, she realized. But Clearpaw but words to her thought before she could.
"Badger!" Her sister called, letting out a gasp. "We need to warn the camp!"
Slightpaw pounded down the small slope, rushing to Leafstar's den. When she reached it, her paws skidded, and she padded slowly towards the inside. "Leafstar! There's a badger in camp!" she meowed.
The brown-and-cream she-cat woke up immediately, as though she had been waiting for somthing to happen all night long. She ran out of the den, with a swift nod of thanks to the two sister apprentices.
Leafstar called out to the Clan, and every cat woke up, some blinking sleep out of their eyes.
But just as the cats got up, a lumbering black-and-white shape entered the camp. Warriors' fur bristled, and claws came unsheathed. Even Waterpaw got out her fighting energy. The badger slashed out its claws, and Harrybrook jumped on its back, screeching. Slightpaw's mother, Ridgenose, and Needleclaw joined in, followed by Hawkwing and the two newest apprentices, Hollypaw and Mosspaw.
Slightpaw lashed out a claw, landing on the badger's leg. It swung around, and with a squeak, Slightpaw jumped away.
Ducking under a bush, Slightpaw watched in horror as the badger lumbered over to Leafstar. She leaped out, but she wasn't fast enough, and the badger lashed its sharp, gleaming claws at Leafstar's face.
After that, the battle became a whirlwind of colorful pelts and slashing claws, dotted with the distinctive red specks that were blood.
Slightpaw just lashed her claw in random places, not knowing where she was aiming because the pelts of the SkyClan cats were all blurred together until it became impossible to see where one cat ended and another started.
Soon, the movement in the clearing died down, and although Slightpaw was dizzy and confused, she thought that the badger had been driven away.
She saw cats clustering around a body, and her heart beat even faster. Who is it? Oh, please, don't let it be Clearpaw...
It wasn't.
Instead, the cat lying perfectly still in the clearing was Leafstar.
Another cliffhanger!
Hope you liked it!
